This is a great place for Cajun food! don't be confused by the name, it's not a college party palace it's a great food and drink Resturant. Absolutely love this place. Food was great! I'm not easy to please when it comes to smoked ribs, but they have delicious ribs. I got a whole rack ( I like leftovers for later that night) This guy across from me kept eyeballing my ribs. He was so funny. You could tell he was starving and he really wanted to taste them. So I offered him some, he came over and said I'm sorry I just couldn't stop lookin. I said hey, you're not the first guy who couldn't keep his eyes off my rack...cracked him up. I'm not trying to be dramatic but the Keg might be God's greatest blessing to Murray, KY. I recommend lunch time because you get not one but THREE sides AND a meat all for like $10. The loaded mashed potatoes and the green beans are my staple go to because they genuinely could cure depression. I couldn't recommend this place enough if you want just good home cooked food. I have eaten here three times. I have gotten nachos twice and they where amazing. Others in my party got crab legs and two of the three times they where ok. One time they had to much of what ever the seasoning is that they use and he could not eat them. The atmosphere is good I enjoy going but they need to be more consistent with there cooking. Have visited before but first time in several years. Ordered the pulled pork lunch with 3 sides. Honestly expected better pork not bad certainly not as good as I had expected. Plus it was full of fat and by the time I pulled fat off there wasn't much pork. Green beans were bland, cucumber tomato salad was good. The greens also good. A restaurant could do well in this town by being strictly non smoking and having decent food and service. The "non smoking" part of the restaurant was pointless and packed, as everyone was trying to huddle away from the cloud of smoke lingering in this whole stinking place. At least put a fan or something to blow the smoke out. Who are you people? Who freaking smokes in a restaurant? Edited: the food is good. As a Cajun, I tried the grilled oysters and the Cajun platter. Oysters: good grilled oysters. Lots of Parmesan cheese and butter but not too much. The cigarette smoke gave it a nice ashtray finish. Gumbo: solid. Not spicy, very flavorful, not too much rice, tasted fresh and well done. Tasted like smoke. Jambalaya: rice with red pepper. An embarrassment to jambalaya everywhere. Also tasted of smoke. Andouille: good. Spicy with good flavor. Good grill flavor, bonus for not tasting like ashtray. Shrimp: really good. Remoulade was good and both the grilled and steamed were really good. Fresh. Nice cigarette finish. Crawfish: surprisingly good for being in Kentucky. Not doused in red pepper. Fresh, good size crawfish. Ordered more. Overall: good food, good whisky selection, chokingly thick cigarette smoke. Second edit, from 2 stars to 4: the owner brings in crawfish fresh 3 times a week. The food is good, not great, but probably worth the visit. The alligator bites were not as good as others I've had, still the kids thought they were cool. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, actually a very good dining experience. Except...we dined around 5:30 to 6:30 and there were tables all over the restaurant with people smoking, not just at the bar. If you like to smell like an ash tray then this is your restaurant. Wow, I wish I could leave 10 stars. I am visiting from St. Louis with my wife and her family. Every single person gave their food an A++. The staff couldn't have been friendlier, the ambiance was unique and welcoming, the menu selection was diverse and amazing, and the prices were low while quality was high!! For example- it was $13 for a dozen of raw oysters. Last night in STL we spent $30 for a dozen of "just flown in from the coast" oysters at an oyster fest and The Keg oysters were top notch and so much better. All of the other food fit the same trend- great price and fantastic taste, from the ribeye to the Cajun andouille. This place was a home run. The only complaint is that this restaurant isn't in St. Louis!! read more

Took my family here though I hadn't eaten there yet. Really liked the place. The beer was cold and the food was good. Had the beef brisket and could definitely taste the smoke in it. You can see the smoker sitting out back. We also had the Cajun catfish was cooked right and all of the sides (hush puppies, corn bites, fries, etc.) were cooked perfectly. The menu is attractive because of the variety. It's almost overwhelming to decide because everything sounds so good. unfortunately this was a huge let down. My son ordered chicken Alfredo. The chicken was dry, cold and the noodles were all stuck together. I ordered a medium ribeye and it was horrible. They didn't season the steak and it had no flavor. We had just left a ball tournament and was starving so I ate it anyway. I've had better steaks at the Waffle House. Definitely wasn't a steak I would expect for 28 dollars. My other son had friend shrimp and fries and made it through half of them and said it just didn't taste right. It seems the problem is the place is so busy the cooks are not watching the quality of the food. I did however have a Moscow Mule that was incredible. I would pass on this place. New to town and our agent recommended we try The Keg. I ordered Calamari and my husband ordered Jambalaya. When our food finally arrived the server, who was not our waitperson, set the plates down and was gone before we had time to look at the food. My Calamari was all rings that resembled onion rings...at first I thought they were until I tried one. I realized at the point I was trying one that's had not been served the marinara sauce that was to go with it. I started watching for our server. My husband started eating his Jambalaya. He asked me to taste it and I did. It was bland and tasteless. Almost no andouille sausage and very little chicken or shrimp. Finally our server came back into the side room we were in and I got her attention as she went to a table near us. She took the order at that table and then came over. At this point more than 5 minutes had gone by since we had been given our food. I asked for the marinara and she left to go get it. When she returned to the room she had the drink order for the table she had just taken the order from and gave that to them first. She came over and handed me a small plastic covered to go type container that contained cold marinara sauce. REALLY!!! I asked why it wasn't hot and she said she could take it back to the kitchen and microwave it. At this point my fried food was room temperature and my appetite was gone as was my husbands. I asked for the check and she wanted to know if we wanted to go boxes. My patience had been tried and I said no thanks if we're not eating it here we're not eating it anywhere. We paid the bill and left. Our meal was not cheap. A restaurant with this kind of reputation should be hiring staff that know about the foods they are serving and the people in charge of buying the ingredients should know the quality and correctness of the products they are serving. read more
