We're from Lodi and were only in Sacramento for a doctor's appointment, but ROC & SOL Diner just gave us a reason to stop here every single time we're in the area. Probably some of the best hash browns I've ever had. I ordered the steak and eggs, and even for your average American breakfast steak, this thing was DELICIOUS. It didn't taste frozen or cheap it tasted fresh, was cooked perfectly, and was just pure deliciousness. Raul was our server and was awesome. Super attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. Somebody needs to give Raul a raise and while you're at it, give the chef one too because whoever is back there cooking clearly knows what the hell they're doing. Excuse the picture I got way too excited and started destroying the food before I remembered I wanted to leave a review. Halfway through breakfast I thought, "Damn, I should probably take a picture of this." I'll do better next time, because there WILL definitely be a next time. Highly recommend ROC & SOL Diner. I'm back from my vacy in the Seattle area and it's back to work. I'm out with a couple of my crew in the Sacramento area. One of them suggested this Roc and Sol diner. The menu looked pretty interesting so what the heck. It's located right in the middle of downtown, or what I'd consider downtown at the intersection of 10th and "S" streets. I thought there might be a parking problem, but they have a small lot to park in. The building is painted all kinda new age like. On the menu I saw the chicken fried steak. One of my crew got the fish and chips since it was sort of lunch time. The other crew member got an omelet kinda thing served with hashbrowns. Inside the dining area, it looked nicely decorated and clean. The service was friendly and efficient. Our food arrives and it all lookes tasty. My chicken fried steak was smothered in gravy. The gravy was thick, but not too thick. Those fish and chips looked good. All the crew liked the food here. It's not the cheapest food around, but this isn't a discount chain like Applebee's or something. read more

I took my family to Roc & Sol for Sunday brunch during the World Cup and we had a great meal. Parking is pretty easy to find in their parking lot. We were promptly greeted and seated. Indoors and outdoors have a bunch of cool artwork that's inviting and warm. The staff were friendly, polite, and hard working. We started with the fried mozzarella and it was terrific. I ordered the creme brulee French toast and it was spectacular and better than I could have ever imagined. It was full of flavor and I'd order it again in a New York second. My wife opted for the chorizo sausage scramble and loved every bite. Our oldest had the chorizo scramble with my wife and really enjoyed it. Our youngest ordered the pancakes and loved them. It was a great experience and meal and we'll be back soon. read more

Met my sisters for lunch to celebrate my sister's birthday. Not what we expected. Place still looks like a diner and it's not really someplace you want to celebrate. This old style dinner has something for everyone. I am sad to report that after a couple years there were quite a few items on the menu that were also on the fabulous 33rd Street menu, like the tasty Mt Rainer Chicken Sandwich and Mt Hood Sandwich which have been taken off the menu with their last menu revision. Nowadays the restaurant seems to have one great thing going for it and that is Breakfast All Day. And in an age of closing diners, I say we need to keep this place open and thriving for its yummy diner breakfasts! read more

I feel like this place does most of their business on the weekends when there are shows going on locally. We came in for brunch on a Saturday and even though the lot was full, the dining room was not close to full. The graffiti art throughout is pretty cool and inside (I think this used to be a Lyons restaurant based on the interior) has a hipster vibe and some personality. There is also a separate room in the back with a bar and tables for more private or group dining. Our server was nice and attentive. Our only issue was a very very loud family across from us with unruly (say ADHD) kids. Food-wise it was pretty basic breakfast fare, which is perfectly fine. There was a bone in my wife's prime rib sandwich, the hash browns in my breakfast were super oily and tasted fishy, and the peach cobbler was salty and had a very weird taste like baking soda? My family and I stopped in for breakfast on Tuesday for the first time around 8:30am. It was empty when we arrived as it was early, but we were greeted and seated right away. I ordered a Vanilla Cream Cold Brew to start which was really good and the caffeine kick that I needed. My husband ordered a Mimosa which came in a carafe with 2 champagne glasses. For food, we ordered the Kids Waffle, Biscuits and Gravy and Joe's Special. While I really liked Joe's Special, I didn't think it was anything...special. My husband said the gravy was decent, but that the biscuits tasted like they had been frozen. We also got a side of bacon that was the cheap thin cut that flopped when you picked it up even though the menu states that it is thick cut maple bacon. The inside is pretty big with lots of seating and even counter seating like most diners have. We really enjoyed the artwork and murals on the walls - it had a really cool space theme vibe going on. Overall, we weren't that impressed with the food unfortunately. I would come back for lunch to see what other options were available. Would I rush to come back though? Unfortunately, no. Happy 2026 Yall! I started my NYE at ROC & SOL Diner and gotta give them a shout out for the awesome deal. It was $50/person and included appetizer, entree, beverage, assorted desserts, and 2 alcoholic beverages. The dinner was hosted at the restaurant and the party at their sister bar Twisted Track Station. The owner Matt (pictured holding the '6 balloon') was super welcoming and made me feel like he genuinely felt happy that we came to celebrate. I really hope they do it again next year cause we had a blast and appreciate the positive vibes from everyone. Now let's talk food. Everything I have eaten at ROC & SOL has been fire. For NYE dinner, I had The NY strip (medium) w/ roasted garlic butter and veggies. I tell you that steak was seasoned well and cooked to perfection, the spinach and carrot sauté mix tasted fresh & light - - with the carrots being soft but not too soft. Mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery and felt like happy clouds in my mouth. Previously, I've had the Creme Brûlée French toast and omg it was the best I ever had. Their meatloaf meal is another winner and I loved the accompanying sautéed green beans. They recently reduced their hours so I implore all of my fellow Sacramentans and beyond, to patronize this restaurant. We need good restaurants like this to stay open. If you're looking for diner food, this is your place! I like that they offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They also offer a variety of different specials so it feels a little bit more budget friendly when you're dining out frequently. The gal pals and I decided to do a weekday brunch, and we found ourselves wanting to try almost everything on the menu. We opted to get the artichoke dip as an appetizer while we were trying to figure out what everyone was having. The warm artichoke dip is pricey for what it is, but it was pretty tasty. And the chips that they serve with the dip, worked really well with the dip. I ordered a Shirley Temple because when at a diner... It was OK, but I don't know if it was the maraschino cherries, or the grenadine syrup, but there was something off about the drink. No harm no foul it's just a drink. I ordered the French toast with the side of bacon. The bacon was the right call. It was made absolutely too perfection. It was crisp where it needed to be. It was tasty, and my only criticism is that I of course, would've liked more because who doesn't want more bacon?! The French toast wasn't bad and tasted very homemade. I think I wanted a little bit of cinnamon or just something on the French toast, but it was tasty. My friend that I was sitting next to ordered the hashbrowns and scramble. She tried some of my French toast, and I tried some of her scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. I found the scrambled eggs to be way over Dawne and just something that I would've not enjoyed how to been my own meal. The hashbrowns were OK, but definitely tasted like from the freezer to the fryer type of potatoes. That's not horrible, but I think I wanted more of that at home taste. She kind of felt the same way. Service was great, and our waitress was incredibly attentive. Bonus points because while the restaurant is downtown, they have their own private parking lot and free parking! Qualify and quantity was great! First time at Roc &Sol. We used to go to the same spot when it was Country Kitchen. The diner exterior kept us from going in cause we thought it was going to be LOUD Lazer like noise inside. But it was not. The wall art is busy but it did not squeek. We had the egg benedict and chilaquiles. Simply unheard of when ordering the benedict is to get 3 perfectly cooked poached eggs and a slab of ham that must have been a pound n half, thick and tasty. The chilaquiles were made with thick corn tortillas, mild red sauce and 3 cooked to order eggs. Service was pleasant and quick. Loved our visit today. No wait. Got a cute booth. Got coffee pretty quickly and had our server check in at a frequency that was perfect. We both got the chorizo scramble and that was the right call. The hash browns were so good today! Perfectly crispy and flavorful without being mushy. The chorizo had better flavor last time we had it (not sure if they switched the brand the use) but the flavor of the rest of the meal made up for it. Coffee was also solid- not burnt at all. I ordered the Joe's Special, plus sides of French toast, blueberry pancake, eggs, and bacon because why not sample a little bit of everything? Everything was fresh and tasty! The Joe's Special was hearty and flavorful, the French toast was fluffy and golden, and the blueberry pancake was perfectly sweet. The bacon was nice and cooked perfectly. Randy from Shaft has been telling me for months that I needed to go here for the Reuben sandwich. Everything he told me is true. The sandwich and fries plate is, indeed, enough to share. The Reuben is delicious. Thinly sliced corned beef piled on high, perfectly sauced, cheesed, and sauerkrauted. The fries are thin, crispy, not too salty, and plentiful. The restaurant is also an art gallery! Comfortable, and reminds me of the kind of diners that I loved growing up. Anna, our lovely server, is attentive, engaging, and an all around great person. Whenever I visit my daughter on Q Street this is my favorite place to go! Not only because I can walk there, but because the food is really good. Always great customer service and I like how comfortable the diner is. I miss being able to go in the evenings . It was perfect for after work. We recently checked out this artsy little diner and it ended up being such a fun family meal. I love a good all-day breakfast spot, and this one definitely had that cozy, laid-back vibe the moment we walked in. The kids menu really stood out, it actually had variety (including a waffle and even noodles), which is rare and made ordering easy. The regular menu had plenty of options too, but I went with my usual: eggs benedict. The ham was honestly the thickest slice I've ever had on a benedict, and the portions overall were very hearty. A modern take on the old style coffee shop restaurant in midtown Sac. Open late on Friday and Saturday for those after-party munchies. They also own an art/event gallery a few blocks over, and the creative vibe is part of the diner as well. While I would have no issue going again, our visit was a little hit and miss. I had the Joes Special, and my wife did Eggs Benedict. THE PROS: We went late-morning on a Saturday and had a real good server. The coffee was fresh, hot, and quite wonderful. The bacon was a bit thick, not too salty and delicious. The portions were large, and service was prompt. The menu had a lot of classic American dishes. THE CONS: While hopefully not a common issue, they had some kind of sewer problem the day we visited. The less-than-appetizing aroma was both outside and near the entrance and rest rooms. Both of us had the same thought about our orders: big portions, nice presentation, but far less flavor than the ingredients would suggest. And not sure why. On paper they should have been amazing. BOTTOM LINE: I really want to recommend Roc and Sol, and I'm willing to think our visit was an off day. I think this spot used to be carrows in the 80's. I can't remember what it was prior but when my wife suggested this spot I was happily surprised when I walked in. I was expecting a kitchy old diner like in the pulp fiction honey bunny scene which would have been fine but I gotta say I loved the stylized neon graffiti all over the ceiling and walls. There were more than a few choices on the menu I was deciding between but randomly picked this chorizo breakfast thing. And I gotta say.. super crunchy hashbrowns were awesome under the chorizo and egg thingy but the kicker was an enchilada underneath it all??? it was genius. tastes I didnt realize I needed.. and don't get me wrong.. ive had my share of chorizo scrambles and random brunch mash ups but mixing the enchilada in there was genius. We stumbled on this place through YELP finding an alternative to Tower Cafe (weekend Valentine's Day was an hour+ wait!), ROC & SOL did not disappoint! In fact, their food was comparable to the other place i mentioned. We were seated right away. Our food came out so fast and very delicious! I came here in search of breakfast this morning. This place is a great hidden gem of Sacramento. When I arrived the waiter told me it's an all day menu, and the variety was great. Their meatloaf is one of their most popular dishes so I skipped breakfast and went for it. It had a ton of flavor to it ranging from savory to a little spicy. It was wonderful and I'll be back. Only thing I was trippy about was how they didnt offer veteran discount and I asked for one piece of toast but instead they gave me 2 and charged 4$. This was my 1st time here. We came for my brother's birthday. We got the back room. Which was perfect because it was a lot of us. About 15 people. The waitress handled our party perfectly. The vibe was chill, so there was no reason for her to come to us often. But she checked on us just enough to keep us happy. It was as if she could read the room, and just know when to come back. She was quick with our drink orders and appetizers. The food came out in a timely manner as well. Everything tasted like a homemade meal! Very hearty. We got the meatloaf and roast beef.... The food was totally fine, nothing bad, but nothing memorable. The service was wonderful, good ol' fashioned service you'd get at a truck stop. I am so so conflicted because this restaurant has old school seating and food, but its horribly juxtaposed with this futuristic robot/Ed Hardy-like décor. I don't get the vision, and it honestly distracts from the old fashioned diner vibe that I think they want you to get through their food and tables. Maybe I am behind on the times, but as far as classic breakfast diners go- if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Maybe this appeals to others so I suppose it takes all kinds. read more

on it's a appeal alone, this place is SO COOL. Major props to whoever designed/decorated this place. It's eye catching, exciting, cool, entrancing, and such a vibe. It's the elevated retro diner experience. I stopped by on a weekday morning around 8:30am and pretty much had the place to myself which was nice. The menu has all of the classic items of a old school diner like steak and eggs, giant waffles, patty melts, and a rotating soup selection. This particular day I was craving lunch so I ordered the "Oregon Blue" salad which is a buffalo chicken blue cheese salad. The chicken is dry fried, meaning no bread crumbs or batter, but there was still a strong buffalo flavor - not sure how they did it, but it was great!
