Love this place! It's off the beaten path in Pollock Pines - out by Sly Park. Small general store, gas pumps, bar and small grill. Food is basic but great. In the summer there is a nice outside area out back. Taco Tuesday is my favorite - they deep fry the tortillas just a bit - they are not crunchy, but they are cooked - in a word - wonderful!! I can't believe we haven't tried The Knott Hole before. Lots of yummy items on the menu, good prices on food and really good tasting food. We had the Knott Hole burger with Garlic Fries and everything was great! The fries were cooked perfectly and the Garlic was out of this world, better than any garlic fries I've ever had. The nice lady, bar tending and cooking did a great job with the food and was friendly. Like their sign says, they don't make fast food, they make good food. The Knott Hole has a great taco for a dollar on Taco Tuesday. They only serve one type, beef, but tasty and flavorful. (Edited:2010 July - They do have a vegetarian option, chile pepper taco. They are good, too.) You can get lettuce, cheese, and onions on them. With the choice of either crispy or soft shell. The bar fills up fast but in good weather head out the back door and let the kids roam inside the fence and enjoy the back yard. Get a beer or cocktail at the bar when you order and grab a bottle of hot sauce, there are about 100 types to choose from along the bar. I recommend Chunky Garlic by The Pepper Plant in the green and yellow label. Or you can ask for some of the really hot stuff they keep on the shelf behind the bar. Whenever I come out to the lake for a hike I always stop at the Knot Hole for a Knotty Chicken, or a good Cheese Burger with Garlic Fries, and an ice cold beer. Try the deep fried zucchini with Parmesan cheese and ranch for a treat. read more

I certainly wouldn't drive here to eat, but if you are at the lake it is convenient (has a grocery store attached). Kind of looks like a little dive bar but felt totally safe and comfortable taking the kids into the little table area inside to eat. Friendly, slow service but at least they didn't rush us. Nice little bar and restaurant across the road from Jenkinson Lake. Gas pump out front. The place has a long bar in the middle of the building, a small seating area to right just off the bar, and a nice back area. Decorated nicely throughout with knotty pine paneling. Good menu of bar favorites. Interesting arrangement with the grill directly behind the bar, as well as all the frozen food storage. If you had a spatula on a broomstick, you could reach over and flip your own burger. Typical bar food menu of burgers and sandwiches. The food is all frozen (the storage freezer back up against the bar), but pretty typical for a place like this. The food is prepared well, nothing fancy though. Great place to stop in after a mountain bike ride, a hike, or a day on the lake. Beer is cold, burger choices are plentiful and the make a mean Black Bean Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. Lot's of sun in the out door seating areas if you desire. read more

My husband and I stopped by yesterday afternoon for a burger and beer. We sat at the bar and the woman working there was friendly and we got our beers quickly. They were semi-busy - all the tables were taken, but lots of seats at the bar. She took our order - two burgers, nothing fancy, nothing complicated. After half an hour we noticed there was nothing on the grill yet, so we started looking around the restaurant more closely and noticed no one had their food! Then I looked at the line of order tickets and realized she was cooking each order one at a time!!!!! One hour after we had placed our order she hadn't even STARTED our burgers yet!!! We couldn't understand how the grill remained empty most of the time we were there! So, we told her we couldn't wait any longer and to cancel our lunch order. We just paid for our beer and left. (They have a quaint sign posted behind the bar that states (paraphrasing): We're not fast food, so just relax and enjoy your cold drinks while you wait for your food. Hard to relax and enjoy when your food hasn't even been started over an hour after you placed it.) We drove on out to Bones and had a great meal. We won't be back to the Knott Hole. read more

Delicious burgers and chilled beer served with a smile in the beautiful backyard dining area. You may also choose to sit inside, but why would you??? It's a fine spot to rest and recuperate after enjoying the hiking,cycling, or boating nearby. Food was fresh and tasty, served in less than 15 minutes and the beer was frosty. read more

Disappointing and Awkward I was visiting my parents at their place in Pollock Pines and after my dad and I spent the afternoon kayaking at Silver lake, he talked me into stopping for some lunch at at this local bar and grill (the possibility of a good hot dog intrigued me). We walked in and went to the tables in back assuming, as this supposedly a bar and grill, that we would at least be offered a menu. We had no such luck. Eventually the bartender yelled to us (from behind the bar) that she could take our order if we were ready. So we walked up to the bar and asked for a menu. She informed us, with cold disregard, that it was taco Tuesday. We could order tacos or anything fried. It felt like we were intruding on some private club. The bartender was impatient and seemed irritated that we were there. She never told us what fried foods were available so we just went with a few tacos. While preparing our order she chatted with people at the bar that were obviously known regulars.They were given a friendly courteousness that, despite our politeness, we were denied. The tacos were good. The hot sauces available were plentiful. But I will never return. I've worked in restaurants for over a decade and would never treat a guest how we were treated that day. read more

I used to love this place and had no issues except for the amount of fake service dogs that would be in there while i was in the with my legitimate service dog. But the last time we were in there we had no issues we went to go sit in the back we order food and I went in with my service dog and I wasn't holding onto her leash because she is fully off leash trained she was still wearing leash I just wasn't holding onto it I wanted to check for food is done and the drunk owner yelled at me and told me I need to put a leash on my dog even though it's against the Americans with disability act if the leash interferes with the service dogs job you do not need to have it on so I just Held under the leash until I went back out to the back and there's a science is no dogs allowed but service dogs legitimate service dogs are allowed to go places that normal dogs are not allowed to go and I came back and grab the food without my service dog and the guy started yelling at me and being rude and I started crying and then the lady that was serving us food told us we need to leave even if she's a service dog training she's not allowed back there which she's a fully train service dog and she's allowed to be back there and they told us we need to leave but they gave us our food for free but I don't care and I'm never going back there and I don't just you ever go there I have horrible service and I will no longer be going back and giving them any of my money because of how they treated me and my service dog read more

I i could give this business no stars i would. I have been coming here shopping and or to eat food at the bar and the owners have always been short and slightly rude but this draws the line. I went there last week with some friends and we ordered birgers af the bar at 7 in the evening. Three or four other customers in there eating. The owner lady and willy (the cook) humped into each other and willy dropped one of my chicken patties on the grojnd before he could get it on my sammy. They sqabbled about whos fault it was and willy said " fine i guess i'll make another one and after i insisted that it wasnt nessacery cause it was a double chicken and it already seemed like a huge hassle i was chatting with friends as he built my sandwich and he put the patty he dropped on there and and when i was done i asked the lady where did you get the second patty she told me many lies before finally coping to the truth that they fed it to me. Then the crazy lady tried to charge me for the second pattu and i told her shes out of her mind so then she said i could have the patty for free and i said im not paying you a dime and she said ok you can have it free. This place should be shit down for health code violations as it is disgusting in the bar/kitchen. I always try to support my local bussiness dropping a customers food on the floor and serving it to them sbun acceptable and this could easily happen to you as these people are sour. read more

Took 45 minutes for us to get our Fried Food. I swear she (the bartender who also cooks) served the locals at the bar ten times faster than she served us. Why 2 stars and not one? Good burgers and fries. Avoid taco tuesday. Way to crowded. And the tacos are just so so. Good beer on tap. And always fun in the summer after a day at the lake.
