Oh. My. Goodness. The Chicken Katsu Curry Poutine was insane! It was my friend and I's first time at the Anaheim Packing District, and with so many options, we weren't sure where to eat. After circling for a while, we decided to try two places, and The Kroft was one of them. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry Poutine ($10). It took quite a while to get my food, I would say I waited close to 20 minutes. This came as a bit of a surprise because there was no one else in line when I ordered and they didn't seem to be very busy. Thank goodness they gave me a pager so I was able to walk around while I waited. I will admit that it was definitely worth the wait! Everything they added on top of the fries was delicious, and the chicken katsu was cooked perfectly. It was a generous portion and was very filling. I've recently been obsessed with the Kroft. The Cuban and Beef Melt Sandwiches are becoming a weekly must have. The Kroft has been on my bookmarks for so long, but when I finally took my first trip to Anaheim, I knew I had to try it! I've never had poutine before and they have so many options to choose from. For those who don't know, poutine is a fancy version of loaded fries. I went with the Original Fried Chicken Poutine (~$11). I substituted the bacon for fried onions. But instead, they gave me grilled onions. Not a big deal, but unsure what the confusion was. That explains why my order took longer than usual to prepare. It included fries, cheese cubes, fried chicken pieces, and gravy topped with green onions (and grilled onions). It all tasted good and fresh but was definitely a heavy, unhealthy meal. And, if you ask me, it's a win-win situation! Classic Poutine is basically fries topped with gravy and cheese curds--a combination I've come to love when I first visited Toronto. When The Kroft first opened in Anaheim a few years ago, I was really excited that they were offering an assortment of poutine. I was a bit reluctant to try the poutine here during my first visit because I didn't want to be disappointed with the poutine and, so, I ordered a Porchetta Sandwich. I know, I know... coming to a poutine place and ordering a sandwich is like going to a ramen shop and ordering the rice platters (I give this example because my family actually did that and they were quite displeased with the restaurant! Lol). But, I was glad to be wrong, because the Porchetta Sandwich was pretty good at The Kroft. Tender cuts of pork meat with the spiciness in arugula, the sweetness from the caramelized onions, the crunch from the ciabatta, and the tang and slight kick from the salsa verde were delicious! I told myself that the next visit would have to be poutine. And I did just that! I ordered their Short Rib Poutine and I really loved the acidity from the Pickled Red Onions because it cut through the heavy flavors of the Braised Short Rib and the fries itself. Every visit to The Kroft has been a great experience, including last night when I took a friend who was visiting for the holidays out to the Anaheim Packing District (APD). We each ordered something different. I ordered the Japanese Katsu Curry Poutine and it was delicious! Pro-Tip: Order the fries well-done to withstand the toppings. It stays crispier til the end! The staff at The Kroft are quick and efficient despite the long lines. Once you place your order at the counter, they give you a vibrating pager that notifies you once your food is ready. Seating is plentiful at APD but getting around through the crowds can be somewhat of an annoyance. Overall, The Kroft is a great, casual place to grab poutine at an affordable price and their food presentation is always social media-ready (thanks for keeping the lids open)! Yum!!! I love their braised short rib poutine. The flavors are great and it is very well balanced. The pickled onions add a little break to cut through the rich short rib gravy. I love the cheese curds and the fries are cooked to perfection. They have other menu items as well but I'm sure this and their other poutine are popular options. I added Dijon mustard and extra pickles, but I don't feel like I should have to. A restaurant should be able to know what their food needs and they're food needs more flavor. The Cheese Dip is awesome and so is the Cubano. Just really really wish they wouldn't have taken the East Coast Dip off the menu. The girl that took my order wasn't the most helpful with the most popular things on the menu, so I decided I would go basic. The burgers was ok... nothing spectacular , very similar to the fast food place "smash burger". The fries could have been good, but they weren't fresh and they were cold. Cold garlic fries aren't the most appetizing. I think they gave us the last of of the batch, because the people sitting next to us had fries and they looked hot and a lot more appetizing. I wish there was a bit more spice in the curry, but I enjoyed the chunks of cheese in between the fries and the cilantro on top. We ordered these two poutines, $10 each: -Chicken Tikka Masala Poutine: The sauce was rich and not overly thin or thick, with small bits of chicken throughout. I had thought my fries in the lower layers would be dry, but they spread their sauce out evenly and generously. -Loco Moco Poutine: The meat was just a plain meatloaf and the texture was just ground up meat, so this one I would not recommend. If I could eat at The Kroft every day, I would. The porchetta sandwich is out-of-this-world... and adding an egg on top of it is mind-blowing crazy good! I have to say, it's probably on my top things to eat EVER - it's just that good! It's meaty and slightly crunchy, thanks to the pork cracklings in there with decent spice going on via the salsa verde. Those with a hearty appetite can definitely finish a sandwich on their own, but for those not-so-hearty eaters - or those who want a bit of everything - it's great for splitting with a friend. The garlic truffle fries are pretty awesome and the fried cheese curds are AMAZING! Do yourself a solid and pair those babies with the garlic mayo and/or pineapple habanero ketchup. I was missing the poutine from Disney World so decided to try this place for dinner. For the most part, it was decent. I liked the different twists they put on their poutine. The portions were not huge for the price and there was an excess amount of breading in the poutine. I felt like they could have used more cheese overall and made used more sauce as a lot of the time the fries were stuck together and just dry. The proteins were pretty good and the fried chicken poutine was a good idea. Again, the chicken bits had too much breading so half of chicken was breading. Just grab a fork because it gets messy. -Porchetta sandwich: Large and cut in half. This is a pork belly sandwich filled with onions, arugula, and salsa all stuffed between ciabatta bread. It gets oily and messy, the sandwich wrapper was super oily... but it was still yummy. Overall I liked the poutine more than the sandwich. Both were shared between two people and we were stuffed.
