I have been eyeing this ace for a while and had some time today to go check it out with my wife. Their motto is comfort food re-invented but I would say they took some classics and elevated it. Let's start with the poutine. Now poutine on its own is pretty straight forward, good fries, some brown gravy and cheese curds. Then top that with what was basically like mom's pot roast and that's a whole other level. To say these were good would be an understatement. The service was pretty quick, maybe 10 minutes or so to get our food and neither me nor my wife were disappointed in what we ordered. I had the braised beef poutine (aka potroast and poutine) and she had wagyu smash fries. I may have to try the actual smash burger there next time because the patties were delicious. I also tried their cheeseburger egg rolls and those were ok, but not something I would go back for as a must have. We were in Long Beach for a conference and had heard about the restaurants in the Hanger. After taking a walk around, it was actually hard to decide where to eat because there were so many great options. We ended up ordering from The Kroft, largely because the Wagyu doublesmash burger looked so appetizing. It did not disappoint. Sometimes smashed burgers can end up only being crispy. That's where the wagyu beef was really a plus. This burger was both crispy and juicy (seriously, how do they do that?). And the fries were very crispy, which I love. My wife got the baked potato with chili and cheese, which also was excellent. Excellent Poutine! What is it... well at the most basic level it's fries topped with cheese curds and brown gravy. I believe they double fry the French Fries to make them extra crisp, so that they can handle the gravy. I got the braised beef Poutine and it was wonderful. It was also topped with pickled onions to provide a bit of contrast. I am for a side of ketchup because after a while you crave a bit more acidity. They serve alcohol. They have basic soda drinks and also craft soda drinks such as Lemon Berry Acai, which I loved. Note this is located in the metal Hangar with no cellular reception nor any decent WiFi. I had visited this place for a friends birthday. Out of all the food places here I decided to try this place out. It seemed like there was many people that gave this place high praise, but I didnt have as good of an experience. It was mainly the wait and the service with the mess up of my order that quickly changed the mood. I had tried to order multiple different things like the cheeseburger egg rolls, Braised Beef Fries, and the Braised beef Baked Potato. My order took the longest out of all my friends, even though I ordered first. When I finally got my order, I took my food to the outside patio to start to eat, and found out that they gave me the wrong order. I went walked all the way back inside, and there was no initial sorry, they just took my order and talked amongst their team members about the mess up. The same thing that happened to another gentleman who came back, possibly switching up our orders. I would at least let us know what is going on, order was messed up, let me make you another one.. I always passed by The Kroft because I felt like it was never all that interesting. When I'm in The Hangar, I typically go to Poke 2 Grill or Marinate Korean BBQ. However, my sister insisted she wanted to try out The Kroft. The staff was okay. They all just seemed very tired and out of it. Obviously I don't expect them to be jumping of joy when a customer approaches them, but seeing them out of it and gloomy made me kind of gloomy. We got the BBQ Cheeseburger Poutine, and it looked pretty interesting. The fries itself were your typical fries, nothing special about it. The toppings itself was interesting. There are slices of hamburger patties in it which I did not expect. The overall poutine itself was okay, I was dreading finishing it towards the end. It just didn't taste the best to me. This definitely isn't a one person meal. I had to share it with my sister because if it wasn't for her, I would not be able to finish it. I'm unsure if I would eat at The Kroft again, but it did make me realize that I should eat at the other places in The Hangar to see what I like and don't like! read more

This little poutinery does delivery comfort food right! When you're craving something salty and crispy, look no further than the many kinds of poutines the Kroft has to offer. Trying their poutine for delivery involved risk taking of whether it would still stay crunchy and hot, and it paid off handsomely. I got their original poutine and garlic truffle fries. Both definitely did not disappoint at all. They both were packaged in oil-resistant boxes, and were still crispy and hot by the time I got them delivered. The original poutine, in all its gravy and milky cheese curd smothered goodness, would make any Canadian (of which I'm not) proud. The gravy and cheese curds were plentiful, and plenty of cilantro was sprinkled on. The salty fries went really well with the gravy, and it made for a messy but delicious night snack. The garlic truffle fries were equally filling and crunchy as well. There was a healthy dollop of garlicky sauce, and plenty of shredded parmesan cheese throughout. The truffle oil was subtle, but didn't overtake the other flavors. Cilantro was sprinkled on as well. Heavy on taste and leaving a garlicky aftertaste, these fries were definitely one of the better garlic fries I've had from anywhere. There's other foods here as well, but I'd definitely recommend the many poutines to try first before jumping into the other food. It's so worth it and you won't see fries the same after! read more

At the corner of Lakewood and Carson is the Hangar. A collection of restaurants and cool, welcoming, and family oriented spaces. Inside the Hangar is this great spot for burgers, poutines, and sandwiches called "the kroft". It has that industrial look with metal siding and black digital menu boards makes for a really cool look. You can sit inside the Hangar and eat or go outside and enjoy the outdoors. There's seating all over. The double wagyu smashburger I ordered is a super dope off the chain good burger made with two patties, cheese, grilled onions, pickles, secret sauce on brioche buns. For drinks they have Stubborn soft drinks and got a root beer that pairs perfectly with the burger. The customer service was friendly and welcoming. They have beer and wine on the menu, as well as kid friendly items as well. In additional to the food, they have a great selection of sides and toppings. Got a double smash burger and it was less than average. The meat was overly seasoned with salt and pepper. It was honestly hard to get over the spices with each bite. 3pm Sunday afternoon, So I'm basing this review on a simple order of fries. An order of fries is $4.90 (tax included). I ask for an order of fries and ask the nice young lady, can I please have my fries hot and crispy. The reply was "of course" and as we were at the counter she turned around as my fries were being boxed and I looked up to see the same. The lady sacked it with napkins and salt and handed it to me. I sat down at a table, opened the box and salted the fries. I pulled out one, and found it to be limp and warm. I immediately walked it back to ask for hot and crispy fries so the girls at the counter walked the fries back to the 3 young men cooking in the kitchen. Now I'm standing there watching all 3 young men laughing, bantering, socking horseplay, loudly in full view of counter staff and clients. I actually see my order of fries flipped in the air as they are seasoned and probably a quarter of the fries miss the steel bowl and onto the floor, because of the banter. Not a good look for a company serving in plain view of the public. At this point I was annoyed and walked over to another nice young lady to ask for a refund instead due to the horseplay in the kitchen, fries on the ground and careless attitude. I was refunded without any issue and the word got back to the younger man packing the fries who was nice enough to offer the fries "on the house ". It this point I just wanted to leave so I respectfully declined and said I just want to go somewhere else. I know it's only fries but any food establishment should be able to pull off fries hot and crispy if asked for? It's the manor in which the cook staff showed themselves to the clients that bothered me, staff horseplay in the kitchen is unacceptable. I won't be back, hopefully the manager or owner will address the safety and customer service issue.
