Now the main reason i cant give this place more than 3 stars- i ordered the loaded fries with pork. Ot was gross. Nothing seemed or tasted fresh. I ordered the fish and chips and was very disappointed with the meal. For $22, I was served two very small pieces of overcooked frozen fish fillets and a small handful of fries. The dish was also supposed to come with coleslaw, but it was served in a tiny plastic cup about the size of a ketchup container. What made the experience even worse was the response from the employee when I asked, "Is that it?" He replied, "Why, it's not grown man food?" which I found very unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, the food quality, portion size, and customer service were all extremely disappointing. I honestly could have gotten much better food at the base food court. We had one of the worst experiences for our first time trying it. We were sat immediately, but our table was not touched for 30 minutes. A lady came by and said she would be right with us after 10 minutes of being sat, and then never did. Then, we ordered immediately, and did not receive our appetizer for 40 more minutes. Our food came an hour and a half later. We arrived at 6pm, and did not leave until after 9pm. The food itself was not worth the wait at all. The fish plate tasted as if it was prefrozen and just deep fried, and the pasta tasted like boxed noodles. The onion rings were all batter no onion. My guava juice was so hot, the few ice cubes that were placed in the cup were melted and the juice was still hot. The restaurant had an amazing view of the water with a beautiful sunset, that is what allowed us to stay and wait for as long as we did. We just watched the sun set all night. Our server never introduced herself nor was not really attentive. We ordered drinks: the sangria was good, and made with a different wine than in the description as they " ran out." Hubby enjoyed his Mai tais. We ordered edamame which were good, although we received them after our entries as they weren't cooked properly before they were served. The Lanai garlic shrimp dish was delicious, reminiscent of Giovanni's. The rice was eh, even with seasoning on it, but the steamed vegetables were very good. Still hungry, we ordered a second entry, the Island Catch whitefish which was very good. No dessert was ordered; had to call the server over for our check. We were out for a walk and I didn't even know this place existed. Super chill beach vibe ambience. Awesome outdoor covered seating. Such a cool place to chill, beach view and you can also see the planes take off. We only had a drink, as we hadn't planned knowing this place was here. Service was chill and attentive. Love the hangout vibes. I got the drink special and oh was it yummy. It reminded me of being a kid and going to the store to get the watermelon candy with chili lollipops. The right amount of sweet and spice. Now we know of this little place close to home with a good view and good drinks. So next time I will try some bites! read more

Beware if you have a party of 8 or more, gratuity is an automatic 20% which is likely why they don't care about how bad the service is. Food is ok at best. Go anywhere else. Edit for the owner: The gratuity for large parties is normal, but at actual good restaurants they are aware of their poor service and fix it. The service is not great, per my original review. Nobody cares how much you do a night, the only reason this place still has the lights on is because it's convenient and on base. Excited for the inevitable change of ownership within the next 5 years, then I might come back. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome as I had never been there before. Also personalized service and cocktails tailored to help my hangover. Amazing. Fried pickles were awesome as well. The service from our server was great. She welcomed us, took our drink order, then later, our food order. She also mention 5 items that weren't available on the menu. The issue was the timing of our order and the food. She was apologetic that our order was taking longer than normal. I ordered the chicken and waffles from the special brunch menu. Unfortunately, it didn't look like what was shown on the menu. The dish fell short of expectations and the overall experience was underwhelming. I was not expecting chicken fingers that you find in the frozen section and Eggo waffles. It's disappointing that a prime location with great views doesn't match the menu. This restaurant services military service men and women and their families who are usually not from Hawaii. This is another opportunity to sell Hawaii, our cuisine, and friendly service. The Lanai suffers from poor management. It is obvious in the food quality and perpetual short staffing. 2-stars because the feel of the restaurant is right: burgers, pasta, nachos & wings are perfect for a open-air beach restaurant next to Hickam beach geared for service members. But the food always disappoints. E.g. Nachos are clearly Tostito's and store-bought cheese sauce. There is usually a group of confused new comers hanging out at the hostess desk wondering if anyone works here. We have been 3 times because we love Hickam Beach and want to keep giving it a chance. I have been eating here off and on since 2016. The experience is usually fairly positive. I no longer spend much time on the base but thought it would be a nice spot to chat with a friend. By the time we realized what was happening, there was no time to course change to a new restaurant. Service was initially friendly, but our server disappeared by the end of the meal. The nachos were uncannily similar to what we sold at the gas station I worked at in college. They also didn't include the advertised salsa and sour cream. My friend's sandwich was in a plastic container in the fridge. Her Caesar salad was nothing more than lettuce and dressing, no croutons or Parmesan. Our drinks were ok. Hers was missing the muddled cucumber. For $30+ per person, the value was poor. Also extremely unimpressed with the super rude and entitled manager response to someone's yelp review that stated the price and quality of food is subpar for this style restaurant. If you can't provide a quality product, don't serve food. It's that simple. Two stars for the view. read more

Another dine in conveniently located for Hickam/Pearl Harbor folks. Came here for lunch with some coworkers and sat on the outside, which is very nice and pleasant. Ambiance was definitely relaxed and chill. I got the Old Timey Burger that's supposedly partnered with Slater 50/50. They did not ask how I wanted the burger to be cooked, so I ended up with well done, which was fine. It wasn't overdone...but maybe I should have asked to cook it medium or something. Overall, the burger was alright. Nothing particularly special. The fries were not fresh, which was kind of a buzz kill. Actually, the worst offender was the beer. It as flat AF. I know, I should have asked for another one but I was so turned off, any beer would not have sufficed at that point. (The beer was the Lavaman Red Ale.) Didn't try other coworkers dishes but it didn't look all that great. Looked very ordinary. Also, no one raved about their food either. Prices were typical dine in prices (~$15+). No deals here! But they apparently have Happy Hour, so maybe come during then for a slight discount. Definitely not somewhere I'll be telling all my friends and family about. Located next to the beach at Hickam AB, this is a great place to get some food while watching planes take off and land at HNL. The location alone gets a 5*. It's so secluded off the beaten path, and since it's inside the base, there is restricted access to ID cardholders only. The views looking south to the ocean are amazing. As an aviation enthusiast, I enjoyed watching the planes take off and land at Honolulu International Airport. There is a decent menu with your standard pub fare. I opted for the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side salad. The food was pretty good and decently priced for Hawaii. Many other places that are located on the water like this place are a bit more expensive. There might have been a staffing issue, as our server was probably covering the entire restaurant and bar. I don't fault her for that and my wife and I were not in any rush whatsoever. This gave us more time to relax and enjoy the views. read more

So I've been to this restaurant a few times as I work on hickam. We usually come for lunch for birthdays or whatever. This place was semi-closed for renovations in 2024 for like 3-6 months. But as of Sept 2024 it's business as usual. So the menu is limited and mostly consists of pub-like food. I've had the burger and fish & chips--nothing to complain about. Both items are fine. There's an indoor area with lots of seating and a bar area that has like 6-8 table tops. Since I'm usually at work when I come here, I haven't tried any of the beer but it appears like they have a full bar. The biggest issue with this place is that during the time they were running the kitchen out front, they seemed to have lost lots of staff. So be prepared to wait a bit when you go even though there may be tons of open tables. Protip--make a reservation on yelp. It's easy and better than just showing up. read more

Impeccable view!! It's unreal how beautiful the water is and you get to sit so close with this view. The only downfall is the food. It's so sad that such a beautiful view and location could have such disappointing food! We had the ono street tacos. First off the ratio of cabbage to the fish and the salsa is all off. There's so much shredded cabbage with two small pieces of fish that were so dry! They give you some mango salsa thing that was terrible. Bagged chips from the store and Pace salsa on the side which was from the jar. Oh my goodness, it was sad. Son had the pork street tacos and they were super salty. Couldn't finish even one taco due to the saltiness. The fish and chips had no salt and lacked any flavor and the beef nachos had grease on the bottom drenched. The drinks were good so I would recommend just come here for drinks and the view. Saturday night, 5pm Pros: the view is incredible, a reservation was available, the server was pleasant, the food arrived in a timely fashion and parking was easily available. Cons and unfortunately the reason for the review: The food was so exceptionally unacceptable: Drinks: Plantation tea- only slightly cooler than room temp and arrived with quickly melting ice. Gin and tonic - flavorless. Appetizer: Roasted garlic cheese dip. Temperature was tepid and there wasn't a hint of garlic. The celery and carrots were wet and the sourdough bread tasted freezer burnt. Some of the nacho chips were stale and/or soggy. Main dishes: Taco salad, nachos and a burger. The iceburg lettuce in the taco salad wasn't cut into bite-sized pieces, the jalapeños were canned and the kitchen forgot to add the meat. The same chips from the cheese dip were used in the nachos. Along with the jalapeños, the cheese was also canned. The ground beef was stuck together in 3 big balls. The burger was a second choice option after we learned the Tomahawk steak was market listed at $160 and the Pulehu at $70. When we asked why it was so expensive, the server said it was because it came with two sides. What? I think we dodged a bullet on that one. Will not return. read more

Do not waste your time coming on Mother's Day. They have a fixed menu and ONLY that menu. We love coming to the Lanai for the atmosphere and laid back feel. I NEVER thought they would have a fixed menu and only one item option. I was severely disappointed in the management for thinking this was a good idea. Especially when families come with little ones and are expected to pay a lot for lobster (of all things) that kids may not eat. Don't get me wrong, I love lobster but I'm not going to the Lanai for that nor did I want to be forced to eat that. We walked away and there was another family behind us with a small child who also walked away. I'm sorry but the Lanai just lost quite a bit of business in less than 5mins. I truly hope management rethinks their decision and NEVER does this again. I do know we will not be going back for quite some time and NEVER on a special occasion to make sure we aren't met with a fixed menu. Sad and disappointed on Mother's Day. Amazing people!!! I just moved on base and I've already heard great things about The Lanai, so I walked down to see for myself. Right as I got there I was instantly welcomed and accommodated to my needs. I wanted to just look around the place, and the employee that greeted me, Tiffany, welcomed me in, let me explore, and even offered to seat me with a good veiw of the water to relax from my walk. I asked about applying and got all the info I needed right in that moment, along with a complimentary water Togo for my walk back in the heat! Overall just set a high standard for service, and I'm exited for the chance to become apart of it!! read more

This place has really gone downhill. Disappointing to see, it's in such a prime location. During the renovations I visited and everything was pretty bad but I reserved posting a review until they got things finished. I have a visitor in town and we were on the beach wanting a drink. I immediately thought to go to the Lanai since the reopening. The table and chairs had dried bird droppings on it, inevitable for an outside venue but it looked old. The roasted garlic dip that's supposed to come in a sourdough bread bowl came in a tortilla bowl and it was milky consistency with strands of cheese in it, not appetizing looking at all. We asked the server what happened with the bread bowl, she apologized and said she'd get the manager to comp it. We were surprised by the quick offer to comp the dish and saw the manager walk around a few times, never stopped by. We tried a few bites of the stale pita chips with the dip and couldn't do it, the soupy consistency and the cheese strands just weren't right. We told the server we didn't want it and she took it back, we heard her and the manager communicating us not wanting it. Our drinks were subpar at best, just poorly balanced. Although I was happy to see there weren't bugs in them this time, as that was a major problem in past experiences. For the manager to not even stop by when there was a problem was disappointing. I'm sad to say I don't think I'll ever come back here. With another option being down the road with great food, service and prices, it's worth cleaning up a bit from the beach and driving down the road. read more

This place could be amazing if they just put more effort into the food. My husband I came in after a day on the beach and only ordered drinks and the Vampire Dip. The dip itself was delicious. Very garlicky of course but we loved that. I wish the bread and pita chips were warm but they were cold. The veggies that came with were disgusting. They were completely dried out and cracking. They must have been sitting out for hours. I was very disappointed. We also ordered lava flows but we could not tell if there was alcohol in them at all. Save your money and don't go here PLEASE HEED THE REVIEW I AM ABOUT TO GIVE. Edit to add: I don't ever leave reviews because I'm not picky but this place was SO exceptionally bad I had to. We checked in and it was about a 20 minute wait. No biggie we waited. After almost 40 minutes of waiting we were seated, it took 10 minutes for our server to even come to see us, and when she finally did we were informed over half of the menu wasn't available (again no biggie just mildly annoying) we ordered drinks, an appetizer and our meals. The fried pickles, Alfredo pasta with chicken and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Here's where things go south: It took another 10 minutes to get our drinks 20 minutes to get maybe 10 pieces of fried pickles ($14.95) and maybe 5 minutes after that we received our food at this point we've been here for an hour and we're starving. Now the food: My buffalo chicken sandwich was clearly sitting under a heat lamp for a decent amount of time, most certainly made from frozen then microwaved chicken strips that were cold and soggy and the pepper jack cheese on it hadn't even slightly melted. Fries were bland. ($19.95) My husbands chicken Alfredo was awful it had 0 flavor and was also cold, the chicken was once again frozen, probably cooked by chef Mike(rowave) oh and was made with spaghetti noodles (????). Im not a pasta snob but that was an interesting choice. Even the toasted bread tasted like freezer burn? I get it we're on an island but to not have fresh ingredients AND to charge as much as they do was absurd. ($25.95). They advertise as having a "new chef!" And they're way better than before! I guess the old microwave went out and they got another one? Not sure but this place was exceptionally bad. And yes, I spoke to the manager (first time in my existence) and I told her I didn't want anything comped but that this was a highly disappointing meal. I've been here a lot for work functions and it's gotten better recently! You really can't beat the views and the prices are way better than Waikiki for a nicer view of the water. It can be noisy with the jets taking off everyday but great place to have team lunches or other events. The menu is pretty diverse and half of it is different burgers. I've had the fish tacos and wasn't impressed, the ribeye was pretty greasy for some reason but the onion rings are good! Most recently I got the Big Tex burger and it is a huge burger. I had pretty low expectations but it was cooked perfectly and I just ate a the onion rings separately to make it more manageable. I'd definitely get it again. I think I'll stick to the burgers or wings for the next time I end up here. The drinks are also pretty good, standard cocktails but they do have giant fishbowls if you want to spend more time hanging out and watching the waves. read more

The place is in the perfect spot...sitting along the waters edge, great place to watch the sunset, grab a drink maybe??...don't order dinner! They were out of chicken (like completely) they said I could do shrimp or chicken tenders as an upgrade at no charge ( no charge? That's funny...do you normally charge for frozen breaded chicken over grilled?) anyways...I got 1 (yes 1, very small) chicken tender that was about 80% breading...and it wasn't even good breading like maybe I can just convince myself it's a crouton...nope! Not taking a chance on that place again, even for a drink.
