Great outdoor place for drinks with coworkers and friends! I recommend getting the fish or guppy bowl

Ahh the landing... i like this place, but possibly only because it's one of the only "beer garden" style, nearly completely outdoor bar/restuarants that i know of in boston. which is crying shame, tisk tisk boston. No, but really. This place is perfect for summer. They serve huge drinks with enough sugar to cause adult onset diabetes in various color and sized fishbowls, what's not like about that? Its gets crowded, as one might expect, but thats all part of it. I must say, i am always surprised with how fast the service is, considering the hordes of people that surround the bar area. Pair this bar up with one of the many various Boston Harbor Cruises that leave literally 10 feet away, and you got yourself one heck of an evening, or even day (like planet fitness, this is a judgement free zone, unless your drinking a zima, then you get heckled, no questions asked.) I make it a point to make it hear at least once every summer, you should too, and you might as well get one of those fish bowls and share that and some insulin with a pal or two. read more

The Landing is an awesome place to hang out during summer. It's located right on Boston Harbor and the most awesome thing is that it's an Outdoor Bar. I Love hanging out with friends over here, it's always a great time at The Harbor having Wine , and Landing Fish Bowl is the variety that everyone should try it if u go to The Landing. This is 4-stars not for the typical things like price, service or food, because really none of those apply to The Landing. It's a bar, on a wharf (Long Wharf), with a tent over it and a few bistro tables. Woo Hoo. There are hundreds of touristy places like that in America. To me, it's how well they pull of the experience. I think what made it special for me is that it was the last day before they shut down for "the season". People from the west coast won't get what "the season" is, but in New England many if not most seashore locations shut down from a certain point in Fall to a certain point in Spring. Shut down ... completely. I have to admit I am not used to that concept, and to each their own but I happen to love the cold blustery seashore in winter. But back to The Landing. There is absolutely nothing special about it other than the drinks were stiff (to brace against the chilling winds) and the service was like we were family. Otherwise we sat at a stainless steel bar and drank a few after a harbor cruise. Why does that rate 4-stars? Let's call it magic. Not every place you visit leaves a positive impression. Maybe it has to do with that special time, and place and ambiance. Whatever it is, The Landing captured it for me and dammit I wish I could just be there now and tell you what it is that they do so right. My husband and I stopped at the landing during our Boston trip and absolutely loved it! The service and ambiance was great! We're not (or rather I am not) heavy drinkers, so I asked the waiter for something that doesn't have such a bitter taste and she recommended the sun kissed punch. It was delicious! My husband and I ordered the fish bowl and it was fantastic. Would definitely return on our next trip to MA. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. First off, our chips were crumbs. Because we complained about it, we were told (by our server) we were rude and subsequently got the literal book thrown at us (like with our money still in it). He also told us to our face we are rude for complaining and cut off (after our first drink of the night). We stuck around and had the great drinks but suffered through the "cheese and crackers" which in reality is cracked pita chips with shitty cheese melted on it. When we went to leave this awful place, we tried tipping, but were told "they make more than our petty money and don't need it". They proceeded to laugh and throw our money at us. You could catch your own fish in the harbor and buy drinks at the 7/11 for a better experience. read more

Went here after riding on the Codzilla with a group for a birthday. The space is not good for groups. There was just nowhere to sit. Its the The Landing's fault, it was an amazing Saturday afternoon in the summer and people wanted to be outside drinking. Had there been space to sit, I think I would really like this place! We went to get a "fish bowl" which is like a scorpion bowl, but in a fish bowl, cute right? The one we got was pink and tasted like a freeze pop till you sipped from the bottom and realized it was one boozy drink! One very tasty boozy drink! 4 of us shared what is called "the fish bowl" size, minimum of 3 people. Another person got the "guppy bowl" which serves 2 and a big part of the group got the "fish tank" which serves a minimum of 10, and its freaking huge!!! I tried a sip of everyones and all are sweet a boozy. I have no idea if this place serves food, so I can't help you there. But I think with a group of 4 people this place would be pretty awesome (or 10 people so you can get the fish tank). Service was good and friendly. Our server let my sister take her fish bowl home when we were done with the drink. He even washed it out and cleaned it for her. There is a 99% chance I will be back. read more

Eh. A great idea in theory, but due to the lack of outdoor options in the Boston, this bar is always going to be crowded on a nice night. The bar is nearly inaccessible if it is at capacity and the servers randomly check on you for drinks. Tables are limited and you more than likely will share one with another group. I kinda felt the drink prices were gouged up a bit as well. Also, the bathrooms are atrocious. Hold it if you can. read more

Never knew this place existed so was super excited to find it! Nothing too special though. If you want to have a drink outside near the water - then its a great place. Don't expect great views. It is set between the Marriott long wharf and the aquarium. All you really get to see is the people getting off all of the dinner cruises that dock there. Otherwise, The Landing is a big patio withplenty tables and chairs. A small bar and average priced drinks but hey - who doesn't enjoy a cocktail or beer outside on a nice summer night? read more

No, it's not "cheap" but come on, it's Boston and it's the waterfront. Our bartender was friendly and routinely checked in with us. This is a nice place for an ourdoor bar. It's right next to the Aquarium so you can't miss it. The Sam Adams umbrellas will guide you the way if you're not sure where. A great place to grab a couple of drinks before getting into a boat for a cruise. The staff are pretty friendly and quick service. There is a bathroom at the end of the landing but it gets overly stuffy in there. Propping the door open helps but than you see everyone inside so it leave little to no privacy. read more

I made my first trip to the Landing this past Friday. I had never heard of this place and definitely almost went into the nearby City Landing to meet up with my friends. I heard the music from down the street and wandered over to find The Landing. There are 4 entrances to the bar, two on either side of the bar. I kind of felt like I was corralled in here like cattle. You have to stay within the little chain link rope since it is an outdoor bar. The bar was pretty packed, but it wasn't a hassle to get a drink. I didn't get a chance to try any of the fishbowl drinks, but I did consume plenty of beer and a shot. The round of shots my buddy ordered came in regular sized plastic cups and were definitely more than a typical shot in size. I'm definitely not going to complain about that, but it could lead to some messy nights. My friends ended up paying for all my drinks somehow, so I can't really comment on the prices. Overall, I had a good time here. I'll probably swing by again on a nice night and hope of the best. read more

This was the second stop at my birthday bar crawl. We were lucky that some friends got there first and got a table because it was packed on the sunny Saturday that we went there. It's a little chaotic because that immediate area is full of tourists, but everyone in our group enjoyed being right on the water. We also enjoyed the buckets of beer. With a large group, that worked out really well for us. They also had fish bowl drinks which some people enjoyed. The bar is entirely outdoors so it's a great atmosphere and a great place to grab a drink on a nice summer day. The negatives are that it gets crowded and the bathrooms are not so great. read more

This place seems like a lot of fun, in the summer during the day. We came here around 9 and there is no lighting unless you are at the bar. All the surrounding tables lacked lights so me and my friends sat around a dark table. Besides that one con, the fishbowls were amazing and potent. One of the top afterwork spots to hit up with my friends. It's super casual and keeps things simple. I heard there's some sort of fishbowl drink or something, but what my buddies and I enjoy is the Coronas bucket. What makes this bar great? It's 100% outdoors, right on the water, away from noisy traffic and with a good view. My friends and I wait for the first sunny Spring day when it opens up and have been known to hang out there way into the dark hours. Only downsides are that it can get quite crowded soon after work (we all have the same great idea - although it tapers off later on), and it could use a bit more shade. That last one is more a personal preference, I'm a ginger after all and can feel my skin bubbling in direct sun for too long. Opens in May...why so late into the beautiful weather?! read more

I stumbled upon this place while walking around with a friend one time. It's a nice place, by the Marriott longwharf, and its outdoors so it's a great place to grab a couple drinks in nice weather. I've heard this place closes early, at around 11, so I guess it may suck if you're looking to drink later into the night. We were here for only an hour or so in the early evening. Noise level is alright to decent. It's outdoors so the sound isn't bouncing off the walls in a room. But its decent enough so that you can hear the other person talk and have a good enough conversation. It really depends on who is sitting next to you and how far you are from the speakers. We went when it seemed pretty crowded, about 85% capacity. Regarding service, our waitress was alright, decently attentive but she disappeared for long periods of time before we could flag her again. Overall, I think it's a good place to pregame before heading to a bar or before meeting up with friends at a restaurant/bar. It's a great place to hit up if you're in the area and happen to be nearby. But I would feel indifferent if it's a place that I would travel to to grab a drink but it's also not a bad walk if you're nearby. The outdoors atmosphere is great though. read more

Brainless bouncers! Paid my second visit to The Landing on Saturday night 8/25/2012. Arrived at about 10:45 pm. Ordered a beer at the bar (... only my second of the day!) The bartender asked me if I would like to start a tab. I said no, I'll just have the one beer. 10:47 my beer arrived. At 10:48 the lights flashed for 'last call'. I thought to myself, 'why would the bartender have offered to start a tab knowing that I'd have less than three minutes to order a second/last drink'? I thought, 'what the heck? She's probably just used to asking that question.' I moved from the bar to an empty table (covered in empty beer bottles and glasses) to enjoy the second half of my beer. A few minutes later, at exactly 11:00 pm a bouncer approaches my table and says, 'you need to chug that beer and leave'. I'm a bit dumbfounded. I've had my beer for 13 minutes. I'm 42 years old... not some college kid who enjoys 'chugging his beer'. I told him I just bought my beer and that I'd be done in 10 minutes... probably less than 5 minutes... and be out of their hair. He makes a comment under his breath, 'you'll be done in less than that!' and proceeds to lower the umbrella at my table. Then he explains (rudely) that their process is to empty the bar from the end I'm sitting in toward the opposite end. After about a minute, an older, fatter, and even dumber bouncer approaches my table with the same instructions, 'chug your beer and get out of here.' I explain that I'm finishing the beer that I JUST PURCHASED and that I'd leave as soon as I'm done. As with the previous doofus, he explains that they 'empty the bar from THIS end.' I ask, 'So if I was at the other end of the bar, I'd have the 3 minutes I need to finish my purchase?' He mumbles something incomprehensible and I decide to start moving out before this meathead feels the need to 'show me who's boss'! I ask him if he really thinks I'm the biggest problem he has to deal with tonight as I make my way to the opposite end of the bar and the exit. Drinking my beer I head toward the far end of the bar, I make it about half way before the meathead sneaks up behind me, grabs my beer, and tells me, 'you're done with your drink, get out!' He takes the last 2 ounces of my beer and throws me out. I'm completely unsure of what happened between leaving my seat and walking halfway down the bar that got him so upset. Maybe he thought I was going to take my drink outside the 'bar zone'... but there was a much closer exit that I could have taken if that was my intent. Maybe he thought I was going to 'camp' at the far end of the bar... but if I wasn't intending to leave, I wouldn't have left my seat. First of all, I'm not sure that the MA liquor licensing board would approve of 'chug your beer and get out' as a responsible instruction for a licensed alcohol serving establishment to give to its patrons. Second, I've never been in ANY bar or restaurant that didn't give its patrons a reasonable amount of time to finish their last order. ... Particularly important with alcoholic beverages that can't be removed from the premises! Thirdly, what kind of pathetic customer service training are these meatheads given? If you want people to clear out exactly 12 minutes after last call, there are about 700 more 'sensitive' ways to make that happen without resorting to full-on ignorance! And lastly... If you're going to serve someone a drink with the expectation that they will finish it in 13 minutes or less, that information should be provided to the customer before allowing the purchase to be completed. In fact, if you expect your customer to finish a drink in less than 30 minutes, you should make that clear before selling them a drink. Not everyone is a 'beer chugging alcoholic'!! Drink late at The Landing at your own risk. And be prepared to 'chug'! read more

Went to the landing on Saturday around 9PM for a few drinks with some friends before we headed out elsewhere. When I got there I ordered a beer and paid with a $20 bill and got a $10 and some ones back. Left a tip and continued talking to friends. When I went to get a second beer, I paid with the ten dollar bill given to me by the bar. I waited about 5 minutes at the bar for my change, and it never came. I didn't think much about this and just assumed she thought I was leaving her a 4 dollar tip. Was not to happy about this because she didn't deserve a 4 dollar tip so I figured I just wouldn't tip her next time. When I walked back over to my group I was grabbed by two bouncers and forced out of the bar without any idea as to why. When I tried talking with them I was just yelled at and told I had committed a felony and the cops were on the way. I continued to ask what he was talking about and he said I paid with counterfeit money. I started laughing at this as I didn't have counterfeit money, and if I did, it was handed to me by the bar in the first place. When I asked to see the bill he was talking about, and offering to pay with the a different bill I had in my wallet I was yelled at again and told the cops were on the way. This bouncer had left the area to what I believe was to call the cops. While he was gone I started talking to another bouncer who said that he doesn't think I had any idea of what happened and actually felt bad that I got thrown out when I obviously had no idea as to what was going on. During this the original bouncer with the attitude came back over and got in my face screaming that the police were on the way and I needed to leave the area. At this point I was standing on the sidewalk outside of the bar and I told him to tell the cops ill be waiting for them. My group ended up leaving and taking our business elsewhere but the overall situation was out of control. Found out that one of my friends was also friends with one of the bouncers, and was informed that when they cashed out the registers at night they found multiple counterfeit bills in the register. read more

It's an outdoor patio on the waterfront that you can get into and it won't cost you a leg. Beers on tap, bottles, and the mixed drinks look awesome. This is going to be my new go to warm-up place for my visiting friends who want a hint of touristy on the trip. We will walk through Christopher Columbus Park, stop here, have a couple and then experience the trap that is Fanieul Hall. At least then I won't be so annoyed at having to walk slowly around all the families out for a day in the city. read more

AWFUL SERVICE!!! We got a few sodas which took about 20 minutes to get..WAS NOT BUSY AT ALL! We got pita chips with hummus,pretzel, and a hot dog which took about 45 minutes to get!!!!! We told the waitress that we had a boat to catch and she told us we could wait! The food finally came and it was disgusting! The hummus was so bland, the pretzel was hard, and the hot dog bun was steel as a rock! we threw it to the birds and they wouldn't even eat it! In contrast to the nearby elbow-to-elbow, hanging-over-the-water bars Sail Loft and Tia's, this is a great, low-key spot. No walls of any sort here (except for the head), not very large, nice staff and often someone playing a guitar and singing. read more

What I like about this place it's it's location and the good music. Sitting on the water, close to Faneuil Hall. It's one of the outdoor bars we always hit on a Saturday afternoon bar stroll around Boston. The drinks are more pricey ($8.50) because of it's location but worth at least one, especially if your on vacation. read more

We were completely ignored by the bartender (guy in his 30's, spiked hair, sunglasses) who served other people multiple times forcing us to say something. I'm in the industry so I know how it works. I know places get busy but this guy was horrible. To top it off the area we sat in had a musky smell of urine. Needless to say we didn't finish our drinks and left him a quarter tip. read more

Great location, great outdoor seating, but horrible bartenders and over expensive! We had to wait at the bar to order drinks for 15-20 min each time, while 4 bartenders couldn't prioritize customers, couldn't organize drink orders, blatantly ignored us (we were a group of women) and all during a low key time. It's really unfortunate because the outdoor seating and location is fantastic! So there's a lot of potential if they could up their professionalism! read more

The bar was very busy and they really didn't have time to do this, but they persisted. We finally got the attention of one of them and she managed to be rude to us. The Landing is one of the best locations for drinks, simply because you are outside and next to the water. This is a great spot to chill with friends and talk over a drink. Speaking of drinks, they aren't that great and are fairly expensive....but you go to The Landing for the location. I've stopped here several times during the summer as a sorta warm-up for the true drinking that takes place at the other clubs/bars in the area. read more
