Nice time at The Landing Restaurant

We live at Smith Mountain Lake and boated to The Landing Restaurant for dinner. Our server was personable and sat us near a window. We enjoyed a beautiful view of the lake. Two of us ordered the Pittsburgh Filet (angus beef tenderloin with Bordelaise sauce). The other two in the group had the Ahi Tuna. Our food was delicious. It was a nice evening. We highly recommend The Landing Restaurant.

We had an outdoor reservation for dinner at this restaurant while visiting SML over the memorial weekend. The staff at check-in desk was very unwelcoming. She noticed us a few times while checking in others in front of us. She then had them seated, looked at us again from across the dining hall and proceeded to walk around the dining area without acknowledging our group. She then sent another girl who helped us check in, we were told they didn't have any outdoor seating and that we had to wait for an hour to get seated outside. I told them that I had specifically asked for an outdoor seat while booking the table. Anywho we were too tired of waiting so went ahead with the indoor seating while noticing multiple open seats outside unoccupied. 15 mins into dinner we saw them folding all the umbrellas outside cause only a couple tables were occupied. Anyway on the plus side our server Neil was great, gave us some good recommendations and made up for the unpleasant behavior from the other ladies. While the food was great I think being hospitable to your customers is equally important. Identifying particular members of the staff that require extra training can prove helpful. Hence the 2 stars. Food recommendation- Seafood Tacu Tacu, Chilean Sea bass, Tomato Basil soup dumpling, Ahi Tuna & Chocolate Cremeux.

The restaurant was at a very convenient location where we stayed. Upon arrival, it took a while for the host to come to the front and get us seated. We ordered cocktails upon arrival, which were good. I ordered the BLT and significant other ordered the pork duet. The BLT was good but chutney was very sweet. The pork belly was also overcooked. The pork duet wasn't bad but nothing special, chutney also very sweet so threw off the dish. After receiving our food, the waitress didn't come back to check on us for an hour. Overall, convenient but service wasn't great.

We visited The Landing at their original location 3 years ago and now got to visit again at the new location. We made a reservation in advance this time, which made a big difference in where we were seated, so I would recommend doing the same! Our Pittsburgh Filets and sides were delicious. Staff were all very friendly and even offered to take some photos of us outside. Our server let us sit for probably 15 minutes before taking our order, however. That aside, it was a lovely evening and we will certainly return next time we are in SML.

A bit of Peru with a French twist. Bruno, a classically trained French Chef brings a unique and talented perspective to rural Virginia. If you're in a hurry, you're in the wrong place. If you don't make reservations at The Chef's Table, you'll miss the show, the art and the experience. Our dinner was sublime and my only regret was my inability to eat more than one entree.

While vacationing at SML, we boated over for dinner at The Landing. There aren't many good restaurants in the area but this is one of them. We ate on the deck but the bar area looked quite inviting too. The service was excellent, the food very nice and we just had an all around excellent experience. For apps we shared the fried oysters, the caviar chicken wings, tuna tartar and the soup dumplings. Loved them all. For entrees I had the Lomo saltado which was not the typical Peruvian dish but an interesting twist. Others in my posse had the sea bass, the fried duck, jambalaya, lobster spaghetti and some ravioli concoction. Everyone was very happy. Until we got in our boat and had to navigate home for 20 mins in the pitch black on the night. But we made it.

Food was excellent. It took us over two hours to get our meal, however and service from the kitchen was horrendous. Beware.
