I was at the lazy Donkey in Carrollton yesterday. We got there at 2:45. I ordered a LUNCH # 5. When they brought it to the table, I saw it was not the correct lunch but the waiter wasn't in the area so I went ahead and ate it. The Lunch 5 was suppose to be a Burrito, Taco, and Rice. What I got was two enchilatas, Rice, and Beans. I figured two enchilatas was the equivalent of one burrito. When my bill came at first my server stood there waiting for payment, so I gave him my credit card. When he came back, he only brought the charge receipt. I signed it but thought it was too much. I asked for the breakdown of charges, which he left and brought back. I saw that instead of being charged for the lunch $7.50. i WAS CHARGED FOR THE DINNER # 5 AT $10.95 so I asked for the Manager. I was told there was NO MANAGER there and that NOTHING could be done. I have been a TAKE OUT customer for years.. NEVER AGAIN. For a $3.00 difference they lost me as a customer. read more

Ordered the -one kids taco, bean and rice combo- the rice and beans decent the kids taco left the taco imagination. The ground meat had no taste the taco shell was soggy and flavorless -one 3 carnitas tacos, rice and bean combo- never in my life have I seen carnitas come in solid steak like fashion. When waitress to ask if everything was ok I let her know that the carnitas were solid masses of meat (flavorless) her response was she had not eaten that in a long time so she was not sure why they were like that. - cheese dip- decent nothing spectacular Overall like most other patrion - the environment leads you to believe that the mexican food would be more authentic and tasty as many Hispanic people are employed but nope. -side or refrained beans- can like. I have gone in past and had the tamales which were also decent. The margaritas were delicious but definitely overpriced. The bartender seemed overwhelmed and after taking our payment disappeared with our cards and cash for over twenty minutes. The room we were seated in had a moldy strange smell. The wait staff gave my plate to someone else at the table and had to recook my food. I didn't mind the wait since I was two margaritas deep. I'm not sure if they rushed my food but when I did get the Yolanda's they were just dry burritos. The menu said it had special sauce for a topping but there was nothing special on them. I brought most of my food home to add some spicy salsa and a little sour cream to it. Very bland food for a Mexican restaurant. The waiter tried to give me a second bill for my drink from the bar. The Lazy Donkey is one of my favorite places to eat. However, today the chips were stale and my rice had very little if any cheese sauce on the dish that was suppose to have cheese ( sauls special). Usually a very good place will try again and hope for better results read more

Guess I'm to nice of a guy giving it two stars. The service was fine and the atmosphere was ok. They have no fans at the doors to keep the flys out however. We had a fly driving us crazy and some of the other customers were clearly dealing with the same problem. The food was very bland and I mean very. The vegetables in the fajitas seemed to be warmed up with the meat and not cooked. The food came to the table very quickly and so that seemed to support the fact the vegetables aren't cooked with the meat. I don't recall having my kids ever complain that food wasn't good as they did that night. How can you mess up tacos and burritos??? Won't ever go back again!!! read more

My daughter, fiancé and I did not have a great experience. Our waitress really needed to work on her people skills. She was obsessive over the alcohol and honestly degrading. My fiancé only had one margarita. When we asked for a to go soda, she accused him of trying to take the left over margarita more than once. Then told us we had to get the to go drink at the front on the way out. I'm not sure if it's because we are younger (21 & 22) but it was unpleasant to say at the least. The food was mediocre. I was told that this place serves good authentic Mexican food and so decided to give it a try. I ordered two enchiladas, one beef and one chicken, and some rice as well. This restaurant has some of the worst tasting Mexican food I've had, the rice was very bland and the chicken and beef enchiladas were dry and tasted like school meat. I guess the name lazy donkey fits because the food taste like ass. read more

We were driving through Carrollton when we came up on the cutest restaurant ever so of course I had to go in! We were immediately met at the door and seated with chips and salsa right behind us. Our server was at our table within 2 minutes to get drink orders. My daughter and I decided to go with the Special Fajitas for Two. The fajitas came out to the table within 10 minutes of ordering, sizzling and smelling amazing. They were accompanied with 3 flour tortillas, rice, beans, guacamole salad, sour cream, lettuce, and pico. To say the least, I literally ate one and was stuffed after filling up on the fresh chips, salsa, and cheese sauce! The atmosphere is great and the place is decorated so stinking cute! The lazy donkey is a solid place to get a good taquito in the crazy college town of Carrollton. Around this neck of the woods, you could say the donkey is a bit of an institution. The salsa and chips, complimentary of course, were delivered promptly and were pretty good as far as salsa and chips go. Honestly I could live on that stuff. Anyway.. The enchiladas were deliciousioso, as they would say south of the border, and the tacos are on par with what you'd expect for the price. My husband and I eat here weekly. The manager, Dom, and bartender, Chris, are wonderful. They know what we want before we order and always wait hand-and-foot on us. And we've never had anything bad to eat here, either. My favorites are the fish tacos and pork tacos. My husband loves the Burrito Tampico. Drinks are strong and we love that we never run out of chips and salsa (which like another review said, is runny, but still yummy). Would definitely recommend this!!! read more

It's priced great - in fact, my wife and I can eat here about the same price as Moe's (fast food mexican). This particular Mexican Restaurant in my opinion is the best. They are sometimes crowded but even then the service is excellent. Their Salsa is tasty and doesn't mimic other's recipes like you will find in common with alot of Mexican Restaurants. On the way out don't forget to take a pic beside the famous Donkey Statue that highlights the decor there. I highly reccomend dining here. read more

I miss the "old" Lazy Donkey. Back when Orlando & Roberto ran the place. Ahhh good times and good food. It just is not the same. What it is. They have done some renovation and enlarged the place. Changed some graphics. They do have some of the menu items that they carried over such as the Sonoran Chicken pasta. (Which I should have ordered). They had a Mesa layer dip that I used to love, it is gone although I might have been renamed to cheese dip with beef. I don't know. The chips are different as is the salsa. Not light and crisp and fresh tasting. The salsa now is a thin runny concoction. We went out for Fathers Day and had no wait at 6:30 on a Sunday night. Part of our party had drink orders taken quickly, as others party members joined us the attention slacked off, as did the chips and salsa refill. One half of one of the chip baskets was crumbs, Took forever to get more salsa, and soon as I saw an empty table nearby I swapped our empty napkin dispenser for a full one. I wasn't happy with my entree but it was own fault for trying something new. As I said should have gone with the Sonoran chicken which was suppose to be the same as the recipe from long ago, or gone with the tacos. Hard to get a bad taco. Family all enjoyed their entree. Anyway service was so so as was the food. Doubt we will go back. It wasn't terrible just wasn't worth a repeat. read more

This restaurant used to have watered down Mexican food, but after renovations and possibly new ownership (my guess, not sure) the food has improved to be more authentic. I'm from Los Angeles so I can tell genuine Mexican flavor. I love the Carne Asada tacos, mix fajitas which have steak, shrimp, and chicken. It seems like Carrollton being slightly isolated from metro Atlanta keeps the people their with lower standards of what is good or not. I love the food here. If you looking for great food and nice employees this is the place to go. The employees always greet you and always have a smile on their faces. I have never been unsatisfied with the food or with the people Working there..I will really recommend there nachos there delicious and make you get full lol...and they also have cute donkeys outside to take pictures with them (fake ones) lol it's really a comforting place with great Hispanic music jaja this is really the only good restaurant here in Carrollton that pleases your apatite my family and I always go their it really the only place we like to eat at just don't sit outside they probably forget about you ..it's also great for parties turn up jaja .
