Why have I waited so long to come to this place?! Shuckers is off the beaten path for me and I always forget to come here and give it a try. I am extremely glad I did today and can't wait to come back again. I understand it is an oyster house, but it is in Carrollton which is not near a large body of water. That being said, I was extraordinarily surprised at how fresh and delicious the raw oysters were and I feel the price is quite fair. Today I enjoyed the Tulane Avenue Shrimp as my entrée from the appetizers menu. The shrimp were tender and I loved all of the flavor. The little crusty pieces of bread that came with it were perfect for soaking up the sauce. It was a very large appetizer. I also had a cup of the gumbo that came with some garlic bread. The gumbo for me was just OK. I enjoyed it and liked the flavor, but it felt more like a savory stew to me than a gumbo. The service was good and friendly. I completely understand the aesthetic inside; however, the wooden benches are not very comfortable. That's just a minor preference for me. Overall this place is a hidden gem. read more

i absolutely love this place! it's a cute mom and pop shop, but don't be fooled because they have a great amount of business consistently. i've been here twice and both times it was a 10/10. The staff are always really helpful and the time spent at the restaurant is always good as well. The food is absolutely amazing. We haven't found anything we don't like. Came today for lunch at 11 with four of my female coworkers. Our server was nice. I had the grilled shrimp with voodoo sauce on the side. I also ordered the hush puppies mmm good! Everyone had something different. The fries, mozzarella sticks were all yummy. Cute picnic table set up too. Small place but good food at very affordable pricing. Took about 10 folks here from one of my customers and we all had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the food. They were able to easily handle the size of our group and brought the food out fresh and on time. Visited Shuckers this evening and it was the worse! We spent $70 for fries basically. I ordered the blackened grouper sandwich it took a very long time to get. Sandwich was like rubber. When I brought it to a servers attention she said it's a different cut of grouper than what they usually get. She said come back again we'll try to get you a better one next time and my husband couldn't eat his oysters Orleans it looked like they poured the whole bottle of Cajun seasoning on them and they were dry. A really nice and clean place, great atmosphere. A bit on the noisy side on Saturday night for my liking because of the live music. But if that isn't your thing, go on Sunday or a weekday, because I hate for you to miss out on some of the best seafood this far inland. Mom always said to try something you don't like at least once. Service is always good, even when they're busy. So why just 3 stars? Drinks from cocktail menu are all really, really sweet and I usually have more of a sugar buzz than an alcohol buzz. Any grilled fish I've ever had has been overcooked. My grilled snapper special was verging on jerky. Never had a good piece of grilled grouper. I went here after craving shrimp and grits for a month. I called my local seafood restaurant every weekend to see if they had S&G. Alas, none were to be had. So, off to shuckers. We went a little before 5:00 and were seated immediately. Our server was very polite, professional and attentive. She said it was her first day on her own. She did wonderfully. I had the S&G. The shrimp were very nicely seasoned and not overcooked. The grits were good, but nothing special. I'd recommend adding either smoked Gouda or smoked cheddar. We had a party of 5 on Saturday night and were able to be seated outside right away. The menu is very diverse and they have a great drink menu as well I had the strawberry tart lemonade. It was delicious. Our waitress Ariana was excellent. So nice and courteous. My 80 year old aunt was with us and was a bit indecisive. Ariana was so patient and kind. Shuckers is one of my favorite places to eat. If you love eating seafood when you are at the beach, you will love Shuckers! The service is quick, and efficient. Plus, supporting local is always a good thing. If you hate seafood, no worries. They have burgers, chicken, and steak. My husband always gets mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers or a burger. I LOVE their blue crab claws for my appetizer. Then, I always get crab legs with their potatoes and corn. Be prepared to get extra garlic bread because your spouse will take yours if you do not. The restaurant is casual and feels like a local hang out. It's a great place to go with your family or drop by on a whim. One tip - make sure your whole party is with you. I took my daughter there for her birthday. I ordered shrimp and grits. There was no bacon or basil on the bowl. The grits were too spicy for me to eat. Decided to give them a try with their Shrimp PoBoy. The shrimp were very good. The bread was not soft, in fact, it was quite hard, not what was described on the menu. The tomatoes were good, but were over 1/4 inch thick, so they helped it fall apart constantly and made biting it impossible. Overall, I'd get shrimp there again, but not a PoBoy. read more

Food: We go to the beach frequently and I have never had fried shrimp anywhere that is as good as Shuckers. (I have been saying this for years - actually since the first time they opened back in 1999 or 2000.) The breading is not too thick and not too thin. It's just right. We love their shrimp basket! The fries are sooooo good and crispy. I dip them in the cocktail sauce. Sometimes the cocktail sauce is not as spicy as we like it so we ask for a bit more horseradish. The slaw is good, I just wish there were more of it and maybe a bit more sauce to marry the flavors. The food is consistently good. Service: The service is pretty good. It's spotty depending on who you get and how busy it is. We go EARLY and recommend you do too. Ambiance: I love the music they play and the decorations are fun! Suggestion: Could you do a week night M-Th senior citizens hour 5-6? That would make me love you even more!?!? read more
