Sat at the bar for happy hour, the bartenders didn't acknowledge us for quite some time, didn't have any drink recommendations, and generally weren't all that friendly. We were advised the kitchen was closed when we asked about ordering food, this was during happy hour on a Friday! After getting our drinks it was another long wait for the bartenders to check on us for another round, so we just got our check and left. The atmosphere felt dingy, the bar top was sticky, overall not a place I'd recommend or plan to return to. So, been going here some the last year or so. It's nicer than most of the places on Magnolia, but not snooty like the other nicer places. It's not a dive inside, but it's not a primadonna factory either, mostly a laid back crowd, with one exception. But that later. The bar itself and behind the bar look great. Very nice, like it should be in a high end place somewhere. Stools all the way along the bar. There is a nice seating area with couches off to one side and some pub tables. On the other side is a pool table and a few pub tables and stools along a couple of counters. There is some patio seating out front. The bartenders are usually the same ones every visit, not much turnover I've seen. The food served is pretty good, but on slow weekday nights, the kitchen can close early so be prepared. I've been caught a couple times wanting to grab a bite and a beer, and end up with only a beer. But that's the way it is. When I get tired of the divey places I go, I end up here. It's a little more expensive but worth it to me. They have a digital jukebox, which I enjoy. They have a pretty decent beer tap selection, and cocktails are reasonable and well made. In other words, haven't gotten any weak drinks here. Service is always fast and they pay attention to you. Never sat with an empty drink. Other than the occasional kitchen ghosting, the one exception is the pool table area. This isn't a big place, and the pool table, for whatever reason, draws in the TCU frats and debs. They play pool, they get loud. Even the bartenders have complained about it. But, probably here to stay, and it's usually only bad on whichever weekend night that I can't remember. Maybe it's Saturday, not sure, dunno, might be Friday, just be prepared. Honestly though, it would be a lot better if they dumped the pool table, but also pretty sure it would impact their business, which is probably why it's still there. But I like the place, and will continue going in. read more

The Lazy Moose is a cozy, Colorado ski lodge feel type of bar. My boyfriend and I went around 7 on a Saturday night. I was expecting high drink prices based on the reviews, but when I saw the menu, I was relieved and a little confused. Have people not been to bars on 7th lately? They charge a lot more than the Lazy Moose and don't have even half the ambience. That being said, management please don't raise your prices. ;) We ordered a beer and a mojito. I told the bartender I was picky on mojitos and I honestly think she made it extra good because of that. It was minty, refreshing, and not too sweet. I even ordered a second. For bites we ordered the warm cherry brie and Lili's gorgonzola fries. Both were very good, although the focaccia bread for the brie was very doughy. Definitely come for happy hour to get a great deal on the fries and other appetizers! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed coming early on a Saturday evening. We met another couple and played pool together. The golf video game was entertaining but expensive. We had excellent service from the bartender the whole time. She was very friendly and made sure everything was to our liking. The Lazy Moose is a great hangout for a date night or friends night. This is by far my favorite local Fort Worth bar. They have a great atmosphere that is laid back, comfortable and friendly. Every time we go we end up having Jess as a waitress and she always takes care of us. The drinks a reasonable in price and they get to you pretty quick. The happy hour every weekday is great as well. The food is great! The bar is owned by the same owner as Lili's on Magnolia as well. So we had a Lili's Burger and some Gorgonzola fries which are delicious! Really wish they had a jalapeño bun here like they do at Lili's but the warm Hawaiian bun works too. Also had the chips and dip before that are both made in-house. You can't go wrong! But the best thing on the menu are the donuts! Made in house they come out warm with some coffee ice cream... they were heavenly! Although I only checked in once so far I'm here pretty much every weekend and will continue to be back. read more

Stumbled upon the Lazy Moose while walking around Magnolia. It was about 6:35 and their happy hour ended at 7 so we walked in. Friday night happy hours are rare to find and theirs is a great deal! We ordered the chips and dip to start with. The homemade chips were crunchy and salted to perfection. The green onion dip tasted like a grown up version of the ranch dip served next to veggies. Our only complaint was there wasn't enough dip it was so good! They had a great selection of happy hour bites ranging from $4-$7 which is a steal. The cone of chips was enough to share between up to 4. They have a full menu as well that was reasonably priced with a Mac n cheese burger for $12.50 I would love to try. We started with the blood orange basil martini and old fashioned. All the cocktails were $6. The old fashioned was perfect according to my boyfriend. The martini had so many flavors it was almost too much. It goes down easy so be careful with these at their price! We stayed past 7 to try another round before going on our way. I had the prosecco mojito ($7) and he had a Rahr blonde. The mojito was minty with a bit of bubbles and not too sweet. I would definitely come back only for that! The decor is hunting lodge chic with a pool table and great fireplace. They give you your check in a small glass so you can move and they can keep track of it all. It is a small, intimate bar on Magnolia in Downtown Fort Worth serving specialty cocktails and food before 11pm on the weekends. When I first went, I thought that I had discovered some little unknown gem, only to return a week later to a packed house. But the real gem of this place, the real belle of the ball, is Colleen. She's so sweet and friendly it's like you have known her for ages. For my first time stopping in, I'm less than impressed. I ordered a Moose Drool Old Fashioned which seemed fitting for a "cocktail" bar like this and I was sorely disappointed. As far as an Old Fashioned goes, it is gross. They use bottom shelf bourbon (I should have noticed as it's listed on their menu) and what tastes like a pound of cherries. It's craft cocktail heaven. Yeah, I know The Usual is next door, but this place is much more relaxed AND it has some really tasty food. We were pretty damned hungry which always makes it hard for me to decide, but we got some excellent guidance from Jason and we loved everything we ordered. That blood orange/basil martini is the most popular drink on the menu for a reason...it's fabulous. My friend's whiskey sour, complete with freshly whipped egg whites made me wish for a second that I had ordered that instead. I was really impressed with the green chili polenta fries and the chicken wings (dry rubbed with curry, I think?) Both of them arrived blazing hot and made me wish I had asbestos fingers. We just had apps and drinks outside on Saturday. No patio so we were in front of the building, squished two small rounds together to get 4 seated. Pizza cheesecake and calamari were both very good. Unsure why it's called pizza cheesecake...it's pizza dip basically. The bread melts in your mouth...because it's fried. Fried bread. Not healthy but kinda magical. Calamari had kalamatas in a garlic broth type of sauce not fried like most calamari. My old fashioned could've been better. It was not the best one on Magnolia but it cost as much. It should be a sliver of orange peel, to release the oils, but this had a chunk of orange with some flesh still attached. It was watered down by the time I got it also? Too much ice I think or it sat at the bar, unsure. I drank it but I wasn't impressed. I also hate to send drinks back...so I just dealt. With another couple we split a bill of 6 beers, 1 old fashioned and 2 apps. Our half of the tab alone was 42 dollars so it's not cheap. Personally I think that's overpriced. It wasn't bad but I don't know if we will be back. read more
