Great food, great beer selection, on the beach, awesome music and dancing. A perfect night out. Yes, yes, it was in the movie La La Land, and that's pretty cool, but why was it in the movie? Because all the locals seem to know about the Lighthouse from all up and down the LA coast. The music is really, really good. Top quality. Let me start by first acknowledging that this was our first time to the light house and it beyond met our expectations. We were there for the max 80's band but arrived early when it opened actually. We enjoyed drinks, appetizers and took in the jazz band for their whole set. Alyssa our waitress was great. Constantly checking in on us. Before max 80's took the stage we enjoyed the fabulous chicken sandwiches along with more drinks. The reason I'm not giving the lighthouse a higher rating is because what happened at the end of the bands set. While we were enjoying our last drink to the last song. A gentleman sitting across from our group kept staring towards our group, gesturing and yelling at us. At first we didn't think anything of it until a member of our group went over to him thinking he was calling for her. To her surprise he was rude and was asking what the fuck we were looking at and wanting to fight. To our surprise we realized it was the bus boy who was working earlier that day. I don't know what the lighthouse policy is for employees drinking after work but it was very unprofessional for an employee whether on or off the clock to represent their place of employment in that fashion. It now castes doubt if we will return. Disappointing because we really enjoyed ourselves listening to both bands read more

Was visiting a friend that lives in Hermosa. We stopped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for a couple hours! Great atmosphere and staff. Josh the bartender was great! Knew the area very well and had great recommendations. Definitely coming back on my next visit! read more

Me and my sisters are regulars at the The Lighthouse and attend every Wednesday nights for reggae nights. All we do is eat, enjoy some drinks and listen to live music as always. We were recently turned away on Wednesday, 10/23/2019 from the security guard by the name of JOHN because we were Samoans. According to the security, they (the lighthouse) weren't allowing "large groups of tongans or samoans" into the place due to recent events that happened there with tongans and samoans. I dont know what happened and dont care to know, all I know is that we were RACIALLY PROFILED and still reeling in disbelief. We took our business else where last night but this issue did not sit lightly with us and we went back and asked to speak to the bar manager. When the manager came out, we just wanted to know why he instructed his security guards to not let us in because we were Samoans. He as well had no straight answer to why we were denied at the door. All I can say is that it starts from the top and the manager is the face of your company. The new bar manager (TODD) was very unprofessional and had NO IDEA how to speak to us at all. This was always the place to go to listen to live reggae music and enjoy others company with great service but NOT ANYMORE. Always received GREAT service from Taylor and Aaron (bartenders), but other then that, they have RUDE and RACIST manager & security guard (TODD) and (JOHN) Please I don't know if this review would make a difference seeing that there are MULTIPLE people complaining about the same thing and NO ACTION being taken. How are we suppose to make this world a better place, if you have people like that working for you. I'm sorry to say as well, we will not be coming here anymore and will be HAPPY to take our business else where. read more

3.5 stars This spot appeared to have become more famous after La La Land was filmed and I've seen even some tourists from other countries! PA is not that great in here but still fun place to enjoy music and just to hang out with friends. Bar food I ordered was a typical below average bar food but I guess people are not here for food. read more

This place recently got new ownership and a much needed facelift... the food is noticeably improved albeit for twice the price.. I have not noticed a drop-off in service... The live music (during weekend days and happy hour - not night) which was so great before has been replaced by "soft rock" bands... and the result is that the place is empty... you would think mgmt / ownership would notice... this place needs to get old school rock bands back in the house... It seems like this place is going for rainbow customers now... and they're not alone on the pier... it's just a shame read more

***3.5 stars*** The Lighthouse Cafe is another Hermosa Beach classic. Despite countless days and nights out in Hermosa, I never actually managed to stop in here until a couple weeks ago. Being right on the pier, the location cannot be beat. Centrally positioned in the middle of all the great bars and restaurants that Hermosa Beach has to offer. Lighthouse Cafe has been a jazz club since 1949. Now serving brunch, bar food, and great drinks, you can definitely see the history when here. The brickwork and architecture definitely have an old, historic feel to it. In the middle of the cafe, you'll find a decent sized stage. When we were there, a band was playing, and a few were out on the dance floor. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Definitely a more laid back vibe and feel than other neighboring establishments. While I had an A-OK time, I'm not sure how quick I'll be to come back. There are some strong options nearby, after all. I have nothing bad to say, except the nachos we ordered were not particularly appetizing. This bar/restaurant is featured in the movie La La Land, so if you're a fan, there is definitely more reason to stop by and check it out. Go ahead and give it a try for yourself! read more

Very disappointed in this sandwich. Who puts spinach on a grilled cheese?? The outside was crusted with fried cheese that was rubber and inedible, I couldn't even cut through it with a knife. Literally none of this was mentioned on the menu; it says "Pullman loaf, grilled cheese, spicy tomato soup, basil". 3 stars bc the soup is good and the non spinach bites of sandwich were good. I like this place! It's so much fun specially because they have a band. They also have salsa music in Mondays !!! When my friend told that I couldn't believe. There is a small dance floor though but still good to dance on it. When I went recently just realized this was one of the places where they filmed La La Land! Highly recommend it. read more

I am totally bummed to have to write this opinion. It's been on two occasions I've ordered the Light House version of Nashville style wings . Yeah I won't be doing it ever again. Having a very good working knowledge of how to execute this dish. I am dumbfounded as to why the kitchen is unable to do so. The wait staff, Bartenders and, GM do an exceptional job. This place would rather kick out anyone younger than 35 than the 75 year old man and barefoot dude dancing with the DJ. don't come here if you're under 35. the too buff guy with the receding hairline will kick you out if you're 23. read more

Came here to celebrate my BD's birthday! Wednesday is reggae night, which I appreciate! The bartenders can use some help! They are beyond slow and I'm sure this place would be making a ton more $$ if they hired not only friendlier, but up to speed bartenders. Everyone was complaining about the service. We also ordered a few drinks and food from the waitress, whom was also on the same boat as the bartenders. Mixed drinks are around $11. The food is bar food and definitely reads better than it actually looks and tastes. On a better note , the live reggae music was just what I needed. 3 stars for that! Nothing like the old Lighthouse I believe Lighthouse got new owners over covid, and in my opinion they ruined what was once my favorite spot. They really took on the La La Land detail of the place and turned it into a touristy, instagrammable mess. The food is now overpriced and boujee and just not the old bar menu / diner brunch they once had. Also, and worst of all, all of the musicians that were booked aren't even jazz. Whoever bought it knows how to make money, but that was very disappointing to come back to after covid. You hate to see it. read more

"La La Land was filmed here!" Drove down to LA from the Bay and my friend recommended we go to this place, knowing I was a huge fan of the film. The vibe here is definitely one of a kind, with a band covering '80s rock livening up the place and people *actually* leaving their table to go to the dance floor. Food is pretty standard for a restaurant bar, but they had a drink named "City of Stars" which I deeeefinitely recommend. read more

Hit Sunday Jazz brunch for the second time, and again, it was magical. The ambiance is what you would expect from a Jazz club. (Oldest in LA county) Cool cats. Chill Vibe. We sat outside to converse. The music is proper, but if you want to visit, sit outdoors. We got there early and the service was top notch! It does get busy, just be aware and roll with it, or if you are not laid back, take that vibe somewhere else ; ) Best COBB salad I have ever had. Really! Reasonably priced -- higher quality food than typical bar fare. (Tasty Bloody Mary) Comfy new outdoor chairs. Iconic...and still making magic! read more

Swung by this past Wednesday night with the big kids and had a pretty good time. Definitely a place where locals come to get their skank on while the weekly reggae regulars dish out some rootsy favorites. The vibe was rightfully chill and I was actually feelin' the scene. The venue isn't fancy nor large. Their bartop has some good wing span but lacks when it comes to tender talent. At one point the drink demand visually hit a lull yet I stood at the bar top for a cool minute as the gentlemen behind the counter passed me by several times without one word or even a glance. I literally tried to call him over and he seemingly ignored me. He eventually made his way to me but that alone couldn't get rid of the bad taste he left in my mouth. Aside from the poor service, the music was good and the crowd was low key. What more can you ask for on a Wednesday night? I also had a chance to check out their site to see what else they have going on and it got me interested in other weekly offerings. Not overly impressed but a good time nonetheless. read more

The Lighthouse Cafe is amazing! It was my first time back since they redid the place and wow- completely upgraded from top to bottom. The menu is absolutely delicious. Make sure to try the cod fish tacos.. they are to die for! Also, I think they have the best french fries on the pier. The craft cocktail selection is amazing as well. My favorite drink is the Voodoo Down, but the rest of the list is a close second. I am looking forward to the new happy hour, which looks like will be added soon according to the website! The staff is also so wonderful. They are very friendly, knowledgable and make your experience just that much better. read more

I came here for the first time with a friend a couple weeks ago and ordered pizza and a happy hour glass of wine. The waitress didn't seem to know the wine well but that is probably just due to the fact that beer and cocktails seem to be standard fare there. The pepperoni pizza I ordered was yummy and just the right amount of food/price for a happy hour meal. It was a Wednesday night so there was live jazz until about 9pm or so. Excellent performance by the ensemble!! We went bar hopping shortly after so did not stay for the reggae music afterward, but I would definitely go back. P.S. This spot is now known for being one of the sites in Hermosa Beach which La La Land filmed scenes at. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone sat closer to the door facing the right side of the stage watching live jazz. Super cool! read more

I was at the Lighthouse yesterday afternoon. You had the Radio Rebels band. They were OUTSTANDING!!!! I would love to see them again!!! I'm surprised they were doing a daytime performance vs evening. 100% should also be performing at night. We also had a server with long dark hair, very long eyelashes and bright pink sneakers. We got the matchamacallit, makahiki mua, frozen ube, and frozen dole whip. Every drink was creative and delicious. This is the perfect spot for a laid-back night out. The frozen drinks are dangerously good since you cannot taste the alcohol at all. The decorations are great and I absolutely love the art. It even features my favorite Hawaiian artist, Nick Kuchar! The space has a great layout. There are two large high top booths in the back that are perfect for groups of 8 to 10 people. The bathroom I used was gender neutral, and there is a convenient parking lot right in front. They do not serve food here, so some folks bring their own. We will definitely bring a meal with us next time! To top it all off, the service was very friendly. They were so patient explaining the whole menu to our large group.

We shared the Tuna Tataki, Crispy Popcorn Cauliflower, Sweet Potato Fries, and as if that wasn't already over the top and enough ... the Rocket Calabrese Salad with Hanger Steak. I never order steak as I usually don't enjoy it. Danny ensured us this would be the best pairing for the salad and he did not lie! It was cooked to perfection. I might now be a carnivore! We were so full and yet I couldn't leave a leaf, crumb or morsel behind. Oh and because we were talking about tequila - he encouraged us to sample their house infused tequila (infused with pineapple and mango). Oh my! Yeah, I'll be back at a more appropriate drinking hour. This might be my new most favorite spot in the South Bay! Beef tongue - I normally enjoy beef tongue thinly sliced at a Korean BBQ restaurant or coarsely chopped up in a street taco. They do it differently here. The beef tongue is one big cube. It's very flavorful and tender. Not as amazing as the mussels tart but still worth a try. Chili crab - this put them on the map. SUPER DELICIOUS. It's not what you'd expect from a creation called 'chili crab'. There's no shell to be seen and the crab meat is actually buried underneath. Scoop from the inside out. Tons of flavor and I wished the portion size was doubled. Lamb pappardelle - if you like lamb then you'll love this. Lots of different spices and flavors. It has a very deep flavor profile that makes you appreciate all the work and thought that went into designing this dish. I'd get this again also! Strawberry tiramisu - they brought this out for the birthday celebration. They prepared it in a gigantic bowl. Scooped out a generous portion and plated it right in front of us. We thought the restaurant and staff really tried but definitely missed the mark here. We order 7 items and was only happy with 2 of those items. My favorite was the virgin Hotel Monta-Stereo drink, which is pretty sad because it wasn't even a food dish (it was so good that I ordered 2). The 2nd was the Pipirrana because the excellent vinaigrette. We also ordered Pritto which was such a miss because it was served in a bowl that made the all the deep-fried zucchini and chicken soggy. It didn't even come with any kind of aioli and the lemon wedge it came with was insufficient. The chicken pieces were too large to be considered a "popcorn chicken" dish. What makes popcorn chicken great is the smaller pieces so that more flavor and crispiness could cover the chicken - a pretty big let down. The Beef Tongue wasn't bad but that was only because we kept the vinaigrette from the Pipirrana to dip it in. Otherwise it was pretty bland. We also got the Chili Crab which was very rich and needed a little more acid - not bad but wouldn't order it again. The last dish we got was the Cabbage, which came out last. It took awhile to come out but when we finally got it, we thought it was just okay. The lemon wedges were absolutely necessary but it still didn't "wow" us. Our reservation was at 7:30pm, we arrived a little after 7:45pm, and was then seated after 7:55pm. We tried ordering the Hamachi dish around 8:15pm and they were sold out. My partner ordered the Herbal Tea but he didn't like it (I thought it wasn't bad as long as you don't let it steep for too long). The entire dinner ended up being $200+ including tax & tip. The waitress spilled vinaigrette all over me, which stained my dress with oil, and they didn't even offer to give us any kind of discount. They have a shockingly low selection of non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated drinks. They were only able to make one drink into a virgin version for me with a $1 discount from its original price of $16. The restaurant was decorated well. The bathroom was nice, the hand soap & lotion smelled nice, and they had paper towels to dry your hands. The service could have been better executed. Because everyone was our waiter, that meant nobody was.

The massive screens extend so high overhead that you'll spend a lot of time looking up if you're seated too close. The food was decent, and I really enjoyed the themed treats. They added to the overall Harry Potter atmosphere. One thing to know before you go is it gets very cold inside, so definitely bring a sweater or light jacket. I highly recommend Cosm, especially the Harry Potter experience. If you're a fan, make a day of it and dress up, it makes the whole experience even more fun and memorable!

Check-in itself was easy, but the scanner is placed really close to the entrance, which created a bit of a bottleneck. I walked in behind a large group, and we all ended up awkwardly shuffling and waiting right by the doorway while people tried to scan their tickets. Not a huge deal, just slightly chaotic. The two main downsides for me were the parking lot and the cleanliness. The parking lot layout is genuinely confusing--it feels like it was designed with zero logic, and I found myself second-guessing where I was even supposed to go. And when I got to my seat, it clearly hadn't been cleaned. There was popcorn all over and candy wrappers stuck in the cup holder, which... yeah. As someone who gets very bothered by sitting in other people's mess, I was pretty grossed out at first. I ended up wiping it down myself and, to be fair, once the movie started I forgot about it. But it definitely broke that illusion I like to maintain that theater seats aren't as dirty as they probably are. Review #957 2026-021…read more Fantasia Family Music: Director: Susan Brown Technical Director: Evan Brown Parking: free public lot (enter from 11th Pl., lot is on right past Alano Club & Hermosa Beach Friends of the Library) My son's saber fencing buddy, AK, invited us to see his 1st performance with Fantasia Family Music as the "March Hare" (Act 2, Scene 7: Mad Tea Party) at the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre. He's been in other performances elsewhere. His dad is a musician, so maybe that's an inspiration for his creative arts passion? We arrived early, but wasn't aware of the free lot in the back (though it was likely full for the performance or taken up by tennis players) until after the show. We spent the next 20-mins. circling around & around, hoping someone would leave a street parking spot. We finally found a free spot on 9th St. off Ardmore Ave., by the time we arrived, we missed 15-mins. of the show. Aaaugh! We didn't have the playbill so I wasn't sure if we missed his friend's initial queue (luckily he wasn't on until after intermission). It was quite obvious after a few minutes that the kids' performance caliber was top notch!! I just wished we would have made it on time to watch the opening curtain/beginning! ＼(｀0´)／ It was only $20/ticket, that I wouldn't mind a repeat but this was the last show. I'm somewhat familiar with the story, but it's been decades since I read the book. All the scenes were marvelous (though we missed the Prologue & Scene 1 so can't comment on that), but the Mad Tea Party's Unbirthday & I'm Late reprise (Scene 7... yeah, I'm biased because of our friend), Seeing Red's Painting the Roses Red & Simon Says (Scene 8; "Simon Says" replaced the croquet tournament story in the book) were standout scenes. I particularly loved the Cheshire Cat 1; she really hammed it & made it her own IMO. I found out after the show that she's a fellow student at HES with my son, & also discovered his 4th grade classmate was in the play as the King of Hearts. We sat in the back & couldn't see (their faces) very well. Fantasia Family Music really put on a fantabulous production! They're South Bay's original student led performing arts organization that's nonprofit & dedicated to youth theater. I loved that they're inclusive of all who are interested in the creative arts regardless of skill level or prior experience. If there were newbies with the "bug" to perform, it wasn't noticeable because every performer were immersed in his/her role. Several performer parents played a part in the theatre crew as backstage crew & make-up assistants to help ensure success. Hermosa Beach Community Theatre is 502-seat theater that's located east of the Hermosa Beach Community Center, often used by youth musical theatre groups, dance productions, & other variety shows for local residents to experience the joys of cultural arts. It has a spacious stage to hold a large number of performers, box office, decent lobby area (hang out with the performers after the show), & restrooms (around the corner of the box office). There's a couple of stalls & sinks in the women's restroom so hold the liquids, especially if it's a packed house! According to other reviewers, there's a concession stand (wasn't available for this play); I'm assuming you can eat & drink in the lobby, or just outside of the theater during intermission. The City of Hermosa Beach/Community Theatre has a Monthly Calendar (https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/recreation-community-resources/community-theatre) to see what's current for that month. I didn't grow up going to the theatre or had any interest in "acting"performing (though I did sing 3 years as a soprano in chorus & played the violin in orchestra in elementary school, earning 1st chair in a few performances). But I love the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre for their affordable tickets to local, nonprofit, & youth-focused productions! Curiouser & curiouser... I would definitely come back again! It's the perfect venue for plays and dance recitals, with plenty of seating to accommodate a large audience. They have a box office, a concession area, and a surprisingly spacious stage! The play I saw was Beauty and the Beast, and it was absolutely adorable. You could really tell the children put in a lot of hard work. Parking was convenient, with both a lot and street parking options available.
