Realizing that I left the review of the cardroom on the cafe, I needed to post this here... Limelight is a boutique cardroom that has a good selection of games. No rake fee at all to play. Be sure to sign up for the players card to earn Freeplay, matchplay and meals at the cafe. It's a fun atmosphere. I felt safe visiting here even though I was here less than an hour. Patrols and dealers socialize and are super friendly. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Downtown. You can walk or take a ride share. I imagine this place gets packed during the weekend. 63 years old?!!! OMG! I'm sure it was the "limelight" at a past point in time and now it's just old, dingy and crying for a remodel. Some might call say it has character but with spanking new spots like Sky River, Hard Rock, Thunder Valley and Stones, I won't be returning just based on comfort and taste. Also the area isn't safe anymore with all the homeless around. Saw a guy with a sharp metal object strapped to his belt strap on the street. He could snap at anytime and attack innocent bystanders! Glad there was parking in the tiny lot closest to the entrance or else I would not park on the dangerous streets and walk! I finally peeked in out of curiosity. Had been wondering about this place when I lived dtwn but never had a chance to stop in. Played a few hands and a was joined by a fun group. Fun dealer too, Sonya. And right before, a drunk guy got kicked out for calling the dealer a douche. Think he might represent the majority of patrons there. Personally, not the type I like to be around. They do have a lot of perks for new members like $25 play money and a chance to spin the wheel. Even with all that, I can't see myself returning for the aforementioned reasons. Andrew and his crew went above and beyond. They celebrated my birthday 2 weeks late and were kind, atmosphere is amazing and the staff were incredible. 5$ black jack minimum is rare to find where the environment is nice too. One of the oldest gambling halls in Sacramento , it's been around for more than 60 years. Can't recommend this place enough. No idea how people can complain about service or environment. It's just one of those places you have to go in and unwind and have fun. Sacramento is lucky to have this place. Will be back and soon. read more

I had heard a lot of goods things about Limelight, but when I went in to check out the card room, there wasn't any card playing going on. I was very disappointed, especially when the employees told me that they didn't know when or if they would be bring back Texas Hold Em. I live locally and would consider playing there if they got some poker tables going. Absolutely no parking. Small lot up front maybe 7 spots including like one handicap. Small lot behind after looping around the block twice. Same issue no spots. Maybe same amount 6 or 7 spots in back lot with idiots parked behind main spots. Waited 10 min while an suv tried to back up to park or get out of the lot Finally gave up and left. Maybe 30 min with driving around block 3 times and waiting. Also adjacent lots all business or 1-2 hr parking. With all the homeless around wasnt going to park on the street. read more

When you think Happy Hour menu, you think smaller portions. Well, NOT at Limelight!!! 2 appetizers and 1 drink = $10 for happy hour makes me a super HAPPY Chic! There are plenty of food options on the $3.25 list and $4.25 list. I ordered a happy hour plate from each list: 1. $3.25: The spicy BBQ wings - There were SIX pieces!!! I love chicken wings and I'm glad they gave me soooo much for that price!! The best thing about it is they put the sauce on the side. Which I totally appreciate because sometimes I don't want my wings soggy from the sauce. It was crispy and spicy at every bite!! 2. $4.25: Half a Philly Cheese Sandwich and a bag of chips. That Sandwich was no joke. It was think and full of meat and cheese. The chips were a bag of Lay's Potato Chips, but I couldn't complain. 3. I had a soda to wash it all down. For $10 that was GREAT!! I'm definitely coming back here again for there happy hour menu. Also, to catch another game. A bunch of people came to watch the Giant's play the second game of the world series and this place was INTENSE! Never knew so many people were passionate about baseball...whatever.... I came for the food and left satisfied! PS. There was some gambling going on in the back...not too sure what that was about. I want to say black jack? I still give this place 4 stars, even though I am not a "big" fan of a the changes. Hubby and I have been coming here for years. Finally decided to yelp this place. The place has been renovated and new management has made their mark. This biggest thing I like about this place is the food is always good. Always nice to go to a chill bar, have some drinks, and when you get hungry...actually have some good food that is not considered "bar food." Our first thing we did not like with new management is that the chicken wings are smaller. But after talking to the manager, he stated it was the manufacture who changed their sizes, not them. Whether that is true or not...I dunno. But TODAY, chicken wings seemed bigger. So maybe after enough complaints from the regulars, they knocked off the b.s. So now to the relevant stuff. The service seemed a little slow. Bit definitely friendly and the server was working hard. Not his fault the manager is behind the bar to cut costs from paying an actual bartender, and he has no business being back there. Lol. I'm laughing but I'm serious. Lol. Last time the manager was bartending, he completely forgot our drinks and we were sitting right in the middle of the bar. Lol. Ok, so do I recommend this place? Absolutely. The environment is chill. The food is good. And the drinks are stiff. We live in Roseville, and we will always make the trip to come out here. Have been here twice and have experienced the same thing both times. The two bartenders give absolutely TERRIBLE service. They actually look at you, continue their conversations and ignore you. It almost became comical at how long both of them ignored my friends and I. I've worked in the restaurant industry for years so I'am understanding if they were busy but the bar wasn't even half full. The Limelight is a standard bar on Alhambra right on the border between Midtown, East Sacramento, and McKinley Park. The bar has an interesting shrine to Sacramento baseball including Edmonds Field and the Solons, but is otherwise a standard dive-ish bar with a card room in the back. Yes, liquor up front and poker in the rear. I was not too impressed with the bar. They have a good, but limited, draught beer selection and all the standard drinks. The overall layout of the facility is a little weird, but it manages to be popular. Service was slow due to a packed house, but bars should know when they will be swamped and staff accordingly. I do not understand the current obsession with dive bars since their drinks are no longer cheap. There are much better places to get a drink these days. read more

I am at limelight once a week for trivia (every Tuesday) and it is one of my favorite days! The atmosphere is super laid back, the patio is covered (which is nice for rainy days) and the drinks are not wildly overpriced like I've seen at other places. The cardroom has a really good feel when you walk it, super inviting and fun! Been a long time since I have been here! Is this considered a "dive bar" any more?? Its way nicer inside than long ago....warm, inviting updated digs inside. We just hung out in the bar side (they have a bar, place to eat and gambling areas) and watched the Kings game from the BIG screen they have there! WOW that was great. They had a list of seasonal specialty drinks there. The bartender came out to the tables we were at to get our drink order and see if we wanted any food. Nice service, great drinks! This is quickly becoming one of my favorite brunch spots in Sac. The service is terrific- you'll feel more like you're at a particularly accommodating friends house rather than at a bar/grill. The place is fairly large, with a good chunk of it being devoted to old men playing cards, the site of which only deepens my fondness for this place. There is also a large patio out front with heaters for the chilly months. Brunch is very inexpensive, and the food is pretty darn good (especially the scrambles and french toast). Plus, on weekend mornings bottomless mimosas are only five bucks (with the purchase of breakfast)! FIVE bucks for hours of bubbly boozy orange juice goodness? Heck yes! This is the perfect spot to meet up with friends on a Sunday (late)morning and rehash the previous night's debauchery while filling your face with yumminess. read more

Pretty good place to play poker with more good things than bad. It was my first time there. Played the Holdem1/3 no limit for about 4 hours. The action was good and it was pretty lively. I am reviewing this from a poker players view.. Reasons for 4 Stars Pros: Great dealers w/ personality and minimal errors. Clean tables & good service. Poker Floor did well with table movement and chip management. They allowed Rabit Hunting with no charge & without holding up the game. Cons: They allowed discussions about the hand ...during play. This happened several times that included me heads up a couple times. This was also with other dealers. Yes, I had to tell the dealer to tell the players to stop the conversations. read more

I'm tempted not to review this place because I don't want people to find out about how GREAT IT IS!!! ... but sharing is caring so here goes. To start, I've been here on 3 occasions. All for Brunch, and with everyone from My Girls for a Lady Brunch, My Parents for Fathers Day Brunch, and with friends after the ColorRun! This place truly deserves ALL 5 STARS all 3 TIMES I've been here. The service is amazing (Thanks Jeff!). I've been waited on by 5 different people and all of them were social, upbeat, liked where they worked, and put up with our banter, custom orders, sarcasm, and indecisiveness. I order something different every time (French Toast, Benedict was AMAZING, Spinach Omelet, etc.) I come but I ALWAYS get the BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS, they are cheap, heavy on the champagne (I think it mostly because they know that's how I like them. If you asked for more juice they would gladly accommodate you and remember to not give you a heavy poor for the remainder of you meal - I know, AWESOME RIGHT?!) and they let me substitute OJ for Cranberry juice without even a moment of hesitation!! Our waiter, Jeff, the last two times...and part of the 1st time...is hands down the reason we keep coming back. Good food, and bottomless mimosas are a win, but the true magic comes from good service. Keep up the good work LIMELIGHT!! ** ALSO I want to note...they do have 3 VERY NEW and RATHER BIG FLAT SCREENS!! Ok, it's not bad. This place is actually really cool (for locals). So my boyfriend and I were heading back from thunder valley, hot traffic and decided to explore some other casinos on the way home. So after the thunder- it's hard to get super amped about lime light however, it's totally rad in it's own right. We were walking in thinking it was going to be a casino or at least a card room. No! Lime Light is a little dive bar/dinner with liquor in the front and poker in the rear! ;) Ha! It's a little grungy with a cheers vibe. The male bartender working the day shift last Monday was totally inviting and so were the players. One of the patrons was boasting a big hit on black jack, so my bf followed suit! (another pun) and hit and ran. So basically my impression wasn't bad, but it wasn't a casino, as yelp has it listed. This place is a really good place to go to when clubbing is out of the picture.They got a really cool jukebox you can pay and pick songs you want to listen to. They also have a card room with poker available to play. I think this review is mainly about their happy hour! They have such great FOOD at such a LOW price with TAX included! OH EM GEE! I have got to say that their garlic fries are the best! Along with that I think that I loveee loveee loveee their nachos! FULLY LOADED! I would really love to give this place 5 stars and sadly the only reason I'm not is because my food took an hour to come out! Apparently the oven was being cleaned, which is totally fine with me, I would have changed my order (the quesadilla looked BOMB), however I wasn't informed until my girlfriend's food was made and brought to the table. At that point I was told it had just been put into the oven. Otherwise, I will definitely be back to this place. There seemed to be a few drink specials going on, and a $7 pitcher deal during college/NFL games. The food is amazing bar food though! Be careful playing poker there this place is known for cheats. They have there own way of doing things and watch the way they talk always giving up hints and hand gestures be carful I lost a lot of money going back trying to give them a second chance. Been coming here for brunch almost every weekend for two years. Outdoor seating, allows pets, and great eggs Benny. My kinda place. It's not as popular as it used to be, and they've admittedly raised their prices. For me, the price change was fine, it's still what I'd consider cheap, and the food got way better! One of the last places you can smoke outside and have bottomless mimosas, I'd also venture to say they make one of the best IRISH coffees this side of the bay. You can talk to the bartenders and servers, with or without some friends, or just sit in silence solo. It's always comfortable, and I've never left dissatisfied. read more

Came with the bf to try and play some poker, they said it'd be 10-15 min wait... but after 30-40 min of waiting, we were out of there. The place is pretty dingy and smelled really bad. It felt like the kind of place where you'd be beaten up after you took some guy's money. Here's some useful info too about the type of players: at a 1/2 NL table, someone re-bought in for $17... The food was ok, over priced but the problem is in the service. No water refill (sitting on the patio) no condiments, no check in service whatsoever. I expressed my need for water and condiments as well as my displeasure with said service. Was not met with an apology nor eye contact for that Matter. I asked for the bill and was given a bill triple what it should have been. I asked for the manager and was again after being told to "hold on a minute " without eye contact nor an apology if nothing else for my displeasure in said service. Nothing amazing, 7 people in here for happy hour should sum up limelight. $5 quesadilla, damn it, I should have went next door for $3 at del taco,or got a solid quesadilla at East sac taqueria for same price, $5. Always want to like this place for local bar, just usually the bartenders are slow, impersonal, lackluster service. Atleast no more hookers or degenerate gamblers, as there was a few years back. Limelight really does nothing to try to get neighborhood residents interested to come back here, and why I only frequent here occasionally. Came here today for brunch. The food was pretty good (the fruit salad was really good though) and the drinks were good. The price was reasonable too. My only complaint was the bartender with the vaudeville mustache. He was very slow getting to us and when he did walked away while we were still giving our order. Fine whatever he was distracted but then he was so rude to the waitresses (who were so sweet btw!) they were taking it ok but he had no reason to be so rude to them. Worst experience in Sacramento. Could not get service at the half empty bar area. When we finally did we ordered food which was brought out thirty minutes later and absolutely smothered in olives which we specifically requested to not have on our pizza. After picking off an entire plate full of olives the waitress came and picked up the plate of olives by itself without even acknowledging the fact our order was ruined, and left our beers dead empty on the bar top in front of us. Honestly i do not see how this establishment can afford to stay open with such unsatisfactory service, and sub par bar food. read more

In the area and in the mood for some cocktails so we dropped in. To my surprise the $3 drinks specials were tasty which led to me having several (like 6 or 7). The mix on the Juke Box was good and the 20 or 30 people their were groov'n. The card room is just next door if you are interested. They also had a basic bar type menu if you get the munchies.
