Out of all the poker rooms in the greater Sac area, Capitol Casino is the only one located within the actual city. It sits on a shady edge of downtown where there's not a lot going on, which makes sense since there's not a lot of feasible spots to put a casino in an urban environment. I've visited here on occasion for the 1/3 hold em tables whenever the stars align and I have nothing better to do on a Friday night. The dealers are always polite, the players are split half/half between amateurs/sharks, and the action often continues on at 2am (pro tip: check the Poker Atlas website to see how many tables and players are currently playing at any time). Capitol Casino generally functions well across the board. The venue feels decently spacious (especially when you consider the fact that it's located downtown). They serve decent quality Asian food for late night hours; at 1 in the morning, it's probably your only realistic option. I also took note of their attractive bonuses; the player with the highest hand of the day gets a $200 reward -- no questions asked and can be redeemed any time before 2-3 months. Unfortunately, one major issue stands in the way of a stellar rating. The wait times are utterly ridiculous during peak hours e.g. Friday/Saturday 4-9PM. I once waited 1.5 hours for a 1/3 hold em table, with my patience running on the mere fumes of the sunken ship fallacy (which sounds comically characteristic of a gambling problem, I'm aware). Management needs to either increase the number of playing tables or implement a more efficient reservation system. Decent/above average food, variable action at the tables, and friendly staff. If they ever find a way to reduce the wait times during busy hours, i'll probably give this place another visit. read more

Really fun card room located off 16th street near Richards blvd on the outskirts of downtown Sacramento. I often come here and try my luck at poker. Have yet to win big here but breaking even feels like a win sometimes. The food here is really exceptional. I kept hearing from friends about how good the small kitchen here is and was blown away when I finally tried it. The smart move it to come in the evening when the Chinese menus opens up. All the Chinese food here is really good. The spicy pork is a favorite of mine. Their fried rice is always good. I also like ordering their house chow mein noodles. The pho here is bomb! To the person in charge of this place... It is very disappointing seeing one of your employees (which I believe is a manager because she had keys to open the little cage for the premium bottles of liquor behind the bar) Well, tonight I saw her serving shots by herself for the people she was with, if she is there as a guest then she needs to respect that, that is why you guys have bartenders, but instead of her asking the bartenders for everything she was going behind the bar many times, and to add more stuff to her inappropriate behavior, she was dancing and making a show for everyone to see, the ambiance needs to be in general and she was literally just putting music for her and the guy she was dancing with. My comments and concerns are going to be probably ignored, but if someone really reads this please make sure you have employees with the experience to know that a behavior like that is bad for the business. Staff were extremely pleasant which contributed to an enjoyable meal. we ordered the following: 1) chicken sliders: tasty was our friends response and she enjoyed her sweet potato fries The chicken patties were deep fried and uniformed in shape- which probably means pre shaped frozen 2) club house: OMG- huge and the sandwich was good. also prepared without mayo as requested. The turkey slices didn't appear to be from a freshly roasted bird but it also wasn't a cheap packaged deli cut either. crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes- would order again 3) Spicy garlic shrimp and fish fillet: both dishes looked fantastic. tons of garlic and jalapeños-but didn't contain any heat. the shrimp was cooked perfectly but fish fillets were oily. These dishes are "go to" dishes at many Chinese restaurants and although the entrees looked good, i would order these entrees from a Chinese restaurant instead. Not sure what is going on at the CC Cafe but they lost their best Server for the morning shift. Alma was always on time opening at 7 am. Alma provided an atmosphere that made customers want to come back for Breakfast or Lunch. Well she is gone and it is a huge loss. I went yesterday for Breakfast and the door was locked with no one seen in the Cafe. I waited several minutes and still no one... I was able to catch the attention of the Chef (Cook) and he came out of the kitchen to look around for someone but there was no one around. This is the 3rd time this has happened. This is a great place to play poker. I love their tournaments because, for a reasonable buy-in and a little luck you can walk out with anywhere from 1k to 3k for a first place finish. In my fantasy I would have loved living within walking distance of this place and been able to drop by (and leave) whenever I felt like. I had one of the BEST BEST BEST Bartenders today!!!! Peter was SO amazing! He was very friendly and inviting. Peter was immediately fun, conversational and very relatable. He also had a ton of regulars that were coming in to see him while enjoying dinner and drinks. He was very attentive to every customer coming and going at all times. Peter had great food reccomendations and gave a great run down of the local menu favorites.
