The interior here is absolutely worth the visit. The drinks are also absolutely fantastic. My friends and I were out to celebrate a birthday and were extremely disappointed with the service. After waiting for 15 minutes we were finally greeted with someone who seemed extremely upset to be there. Drinks came and they were delicious,l. The waiter then came back to do last call, we didn't order anything else and it seemed like he was ready to go so we asked for the checks. After requesting separate checks, we received one check and asked again for separate transactions. The waiter huffed and puffed and proceeded to tell us that he'd underlined what each person received. He then leaves again and tell us he'll just split it. He eventually comes back with the checks and processes our payments. I know separate checks can be a pain, especially because i've worked for 5 years in the industry but guests should never feel like you're upset or annoyed with them. Because the drinks were great, I'll probably return, here's hoping for a better experience in the future. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE NOT A TOP PRIORITY! NEVER BOOK A STAY HERE! As someone who knows the area and grew up here, this is not a hotel to stay at if you are looking to take in the sites. It is too far away from everything and not worth the cut in price compared to a "chain hotel." There are only at most three staff members, if you're lucky, when checking in which can turn what should be a 5 minute wait to check-in into a 30 minute extravaganza. From there, you get into the room and the while the bed area is a good size, there is a finite amount of draw space for clothes and the closets are small in itself. The bathrooms are extremely small with a door that swings in and makes it inconvenient when getting ready. It also makes it difficult for when you, or your or a significant other, is trying to take a shower and the other is in front of the sink getting ready. In addition, there are major flooding issues from the shower into the bathroom area which creates a safety issue for guests. Then there are the beds that are hard as a rock. If you have ever suffered from back issues in the past and think they are resolved, get ready to welcome them back. The concierge man even scoffed at me when I mentioned it. The bars are also extremely overrated as their liquors and wine's are unnecessarily overpriced. You can get a bottle of bourbon for the price of one glass. And that's for their low end drinks that taste like paint thinner. The food is mediocre at best and their wait staff/bartenders are lazy and inattentive. As a former bartender I was highly insulted with how little management cares about their craft. I will be surprised if this hotel is still around in 5 years with how poor management runs this place. The front of this Adams Morgan hotel used to be the Christian Scientist Church of Washington, DC. I loved the lobby and thought the food at Brothers and Sisters was unique and incredible. The rooms are in a new building at the back of the hotel. The elevators needed to be swiped to stop at the rooms but the key cards did not always do the trick. The room was a bit old fashioned and I did not like at all that the beds did not have top sheets. That definitely had an "ick" factor. All in all, the pluses made up for the quirky minuses. read more

I was excited to find this new, trendy hotel in one of my favorite DC neighborhoods I frequented as a student. I booked a room for a business trip in town fully expecting a positive experience. I called and booked the room directly with the staff. I let them know I was booking with my business partner's card and asked if it would be an issue. The person on the phone said no as long as I brought the card with me there would be no authorization issues. When I arrived, I was told I could not check-in. I asked to speak with the manager who had a patronizing tone the entire time and said "if we'd known who you were maybe we could do something about this." I left. I immediately had my parter book a room at the Kimpton Hotel (using the same card) and had no issues. I was disappointed in the service here and will not be returning. read more

Beautiful hotel but I highly suggest skipping the lobby bar on Fridays and Saturday nights. After a 3rd visit the original verdict holds true. Most of the bar staff are inattentive which leads to a frustrating experience for a group having to wait 15 plus mins every time you want to order an average ranked drink. Annie Schmit was a gem when it came to getting all of the details of our reception venue and room ironed out and the staff that helped that night couldn't have been better. Shout out to Kimo for making sure that I got my entree packed up and ready to have later since you know you never get to eat as the groom or the bride. The food was phenomenal. The LINE DC is the new place to see and to be seen in the District. Dine, drink, stay, play, socialize; you can really do it all here. First of all, the building is unique, inside and out. The lobby and restaurants are housed in an, renovated church in my favorite neighborhood of AdMo. The hotel rooms are in the new tower built behind and joined with the old church to create a very eclectic, new meets old aura that feels more like a residential building than a hotel. The rooms are meticulously furnished with thoughtful, local pieces and constructed with fantastic attention to detail. The furnishing needs to settle in before it really has amazing character, but I love it overall. We came for a happy hour on a Thursday night. The main lobby is very moody, but not too dark. The drinks are expertly crafted and innovative, not to mention delicious and just strong enough. I haven't had the chance to eat, but am highly anticipating the two new restaurants in the space. Drinks are priced on average with what you would find at other more upscale DC bars. Perfect for a date night or a pregame dinner with friends. There's much more to come here, but make sure you are one of the first to visit. It seems to be the new place to be in the city, with high profile and hip audiences abound. Check it out! read more

We had an amazing stay at The LINE. I live in DC and my boyfriend was visiting from Louisiana. The lobby and restaurants were always bustling and we loved being able to hang out at the hotel and enjoy ourselves while the weather was bad! The location was great, and we were able to get pretty much anywhere we wanted easily. The rooms were so beautiful. We had an issue with our ac/heating and before we could even get the request out of our mouth, they promised to help fix it --and sure enough, moments later it was completely taken care of. I'm no travel snob at all. But good customer service goes a long way, especially when making travel plans because you are carrying several days worth of belongings and you don't have as much control as you would at home. My experience just with booking a hotel stay here was meh. I wrote a message asking if it would "please be possible" to have a later checkout at 3pm. I didn't demand it, nor was I expecting it for free and I used "please" at least 2-3 times. Requesting late check out is pretty common and some hotels actually allow you to just purchase it on their website. I received an email back from The Line that felt like a form letter and was pretty blunt. No "thank you", no empathy for my situation. But for a nearly $400 for a stay, it would've been nice if they could've at least addressed me by my name. "Good afternoon, I have noted a late check- out request on your reservation. Caveat - I am a couple of decades removed from being a hipster, if I ever was at all, so that's my perspective. Stayed two nights in the hotel... I liked that the former church space is beautifully repurposed and most of the staff are super friendly and courteous. The location is great - just around the corner from a ton of bars & restaurants that are quite good. What I didn't care for: while the room was decorated in a unique and interesting way, the bathroom doors are almost all glass with just a little bit of texture. You can clearly see your partner (and she, you) while sitting on the toilet. No interior exhaust fans for white noise makes for an uncomfortable situation... I don't want to be laying in bed and able to see someone on the can doing their business, even if we're related. We were also awakened early both mornings first by the dumpsters being emptied and then the food delivery trucks delivering directly underneath our windows. But that's also city life. The lobby is wall-to-wall lounging with self-important folk looking around at other self-important folk with requisite open lap tops and staring at smart phones. We didn't eat or drink there - we were told that cocktails are in the $17 range by a non-employee. The upstairs balcony restaurant looked really intriguing, but the concierge guy told us - with a straight face - "Obama was here a few weeks ago, and they're completely booked solid for weeks, but you may be able to walk-up, but you may have to wait 2, 3, 4 or even 5 hours for dinner." Wait 2, 3,4, or 5 hours for dinner? I don't think so. But this place is still interesting overall and will succeed in spite of me I'm sure. read more

The staff was great and extremely helpful. Jennifer spent extra time to provide multiple Metro (subway) directions to our destinations. Tambari helped with our luggage and provided excellent information about the history of the hotel (converted/renovated church). He also tried make sure that we had everything that we needed for the evening. The room was clean and had nice decor. The location of the hotel is within walking distance to the Metro station and near many great restaurants - one in particular was "The Diner". We would definitely stay at The Line again! read more

This review is as a guest of the hotel. I live in the neighborhood but spent a night to check out the experience. Tl;dr: The hotel is beautiful and provides a unique and memorable stay. Be prepared to battle it out with aspiring Instagram influencers for space, and ensure you stay on the hotels higher floors (I'd recommend 4 or higher) to keep noise to a minimum. Lobby/Brothers and Sisters: The space is beautiful, and the food is above average. But good luck getting a seat. Locals have discovered that the communal tables and couches allow them to bring their laptops and/or dogs and skip out on paying for coworking space or fighting over chairs at Philz Coffee down the street. As a result, the lobby is often overcrowded, making it difficult to grab a table to eat. As a local, I appreciate the great atmosphere and look forward to visiting. But as a guests, I wanted more space to be saved for those staying at the hotel and looking for a bite to eat. A Rakes Progress: The high-end restaurant on the second floor of the hotel lobby is fantastic. Food is seasonal and exclusively local. Once the early kinks are ironed out in their service (even with a reservation we waited 30 minutes for our table) it will be a great place to eat. Hotel room/experience: Beautiful rooms, but when booking, insist on staying above the 3rd floor. When we booked we were promised a "special something" for being locals - apparently that something was a behind-the-scenes look at the alleys and dumpsters of our neighborhood. Room 311 looks out on the back deck of a local bar - in the summer months, that promises to mean late nights of loud noises for guests. But sleeping in may be even less of an option since the room is also immediately above the hotel's loading bays. Three rounds of trash removal started at 7:30 AM and continued until 9:30. Rather disappointing, especially given the unsolicited promise for special treatment. I suspect that the general rule of urban life will apply for future guests - the higher up you can manage to book, the less of a problem the noise will become. It is disappointing the hotel didn't over-invest in sound proofing though, particularly on floor 3. All in all, the hotel is beautiful and provides a unique and memorable stay. A great atmosphere but you must reserve in advance to get space. Luckily there was only two of us so we squeezed in on the couches by the bar that are first come first serve. The service was friendly and quick. The food was delicious. The fried octopus hush puppies are delicious and so really liked the half chicken too. This is on the pricier end though so a good treat for guests or a special occasion. read more

I did not notice when paying even though I thought that $193 plus tip for 2 was a bit much (only one drink per person and one shared dessert)... Worst hotel experience ever. We reserved 2 rooms through Priceline. Reservation is correct for amount of rooms on correct nights. We go to check in and one of our rooms has been given away, they had it for the wrong dates, they charged us a 'no-show' fee on the room they gave away because they booked it for the wrong dates. Now they are trying to tell us they don't have cots. We have 6 people that they expect to have on 2 beds. They force you to have Valet parking that they charge $50 a night for. Much needed painting and cleaning is in order. Bathroom doors are see through glass. Bathroom lights very dim. Windows are right next to toilet, so when you sit on toilet, other rooms can see you. Hallways are dark and dreary. Attended an event there. Ceremony site was in the basement and was stark and bare with no personality. Food was NOT good. The homeless park across from hotel made it pretty hard to enjoy walking around the block. Was considering this venue for my wedding, but will definitely pass. read more

We stayed here for a weekend. We were excited and very pleased when we entered our room. It was very cool and well appointed. Unfortunately the follow through from the staff was poor. We asked for towels 3 times and got no response. The empty Kleenex box was not replaced and we almost ran out of bathroom tissue. It was as though service was a special favor. This place is why people dismiss a whole generation. Show up at 2am. Nonchalant front desk says my reservation is for that day, and I can't check in until 1pm. I tell her it's not, call their reservations line myself. Reservation confirms I'm booked in for the day prior so should be able to check in. Met with blank stares. No attempt to resolve, no action to do anything. I suggest perhaps we could be solution oriented? It's very late and this seems like an issue they're responsible for and should fix. She purportedly is on the phone trying to find me a room but no results. I book myself into another hotel. She asks me to call them back so The Line can pay for the room. We do. Just kidding, it's over their limit so she can't. Not awkward. She insists she'll figure it out w her manager, cancel my reservation, compensate me for my stay elsewhere. Long story short, after a week of me chasing them down, no one ever reaching out or calling back, I finally am on the phone with a Jeremy who maybe can make decisions. Don't worry, they can't do anything about it. Save yourselves from the hipster early 2000s Schiller's atmosphere and total incompetence. I've never been so resoundingly for corporate scale and consistency. St Regis, four seasons, mason & rook. Really, anything would be better. read more

Overpriced and poorly managed. The best thing is the location, which is the only reason that I gave them 2 stars. They add a $25 charge per night for amenities, but I am not sure what they are talking about. They provide nothing more than a typical Marriott. The lobby is cool filled with locals, whom I assume are not paying for the amenities that they are using. They don't even have a pool so screw the amenities. Breakfast is over priced and the servers are not attentive so go to the Diner near Madams Organ. People who are impressed with this hotel don't get out much. The only reason to stay here is to drink a lot at Adams Morgan and be able to find your hotel. read more

I'd round up to 3 stars. I cannot wait for The Line and all it's affiliated eateries to work out the kinks so it can really be enjoyed by all. The space is undeniably gorgeous, very cool architecture and a beautiful renovation of the old bank space. However the confusing bar seating rules (one side is a "no standing" bar because (paraphrasing) the bar and bartenders serve from a lower platform than the bar floor - what the what?) coupled with strange library-esque desks w/ low lamps made for a slightly awkward gathering for our group of 5. Service was a little below average; totally understand the team is new, all new menu items etc. Needless to say we enjoyed our one round of cocktails, "checked the box" and took our business elsewhere. Hope to come back maybe in the summer when the dust has settled. read more

It is unfortunate that these guys really just don't care or worse, I have concern, are intentionally punitive. Granted that for the approx $1,600 I spent, they did graciously comp a $34 breakfast, and for last night it think, maybe 2 they did move us to a best available room. So everything in written record shows they were gracious. That is great and for which I am appreciative. Unfortunately the spirit of good will was done with anything other than that a conciliatory or hospitable comfort. Anything that would not survive a "he said/she said" of interaction with manager was truly toxic and acidic. I have politely responded to their automated survey and email from Betsy. Also copied property general manager on that email response with short indication of discouragement with manager and indicating it was unfortunate to have such a nice property be negatively affected and that perhaps some review or additional training could be in order. I've followed up with each of them politely, each week as a polite inquiry for THREE weeks. No response to date. :( read more

I booked my room on January 5th not knowing that the government shutdown would be lasting this long (over 30 days, longest in history). My sole purpose in coming to DC was to visit the National Gallery of Art before a particular exhibition ended, which is very crucial for my area of work, but the gallery is closed due to the shutdown. -- I called The Line's Guest Services Department and explained that my visit can no longer happen, thus needing to cancel my reservation due to unforeseen circumstances, and they refused to even give me a credit. Sam, who is apparently the guest services manager stated that "the government shutdown and its impact on National Galleries is not a good enough reason to cancel your reservation." Just wow. Considering that The Line hosts creatives across a slew of artistic mediums (and capitalizes off of it), I am in awe. Also, to treat the situation as if the shutdown is not affecting millions of people in so many different ways is extremely bothersome. After being unsatisfied with Sam's response, I spoke with Gabriel (another "manager") who also didn't seem to care to remedy the situation. Gabriel said that he wouldn't be able to credit/refund me and that SnapTravel would have to, but then after speaking to SnapTravel, they stated that they'd have to receive approval from hotel management in order to refund or give a credit. Total case of "He said, she said." Also, Gabriel stated "If you find a cheap rate online for a room with us in the future, we will honor that." .....And that was the extent of what he could do. Laughable, as that statement made no sense, considering that I'd be able to book that rate regardless, even without him "honoring it." What a joke. HERE'S A TIP IN BUSINESS 101: The right thing to do would have been to make an exception, accommodate me, and show that they are actually interested (and invested) in having me return as a future client. But because of Sam, Gabriel, and obviously upper managements poor business acumen (and overall poor policy), I will never book with The Line or SnapTravel ever again. I hope you all take the money you've stolen from me and invest it into better job training. You don't just take from people and then hit them with "We'd gladly have you back in the future." It doesn't work that way. Invest in your clients and they'll invest back into you. This place is clearly in it for the aesthetics, they unfortunately are not about the people. They make things look pretty to reel people in, and even that falls short. Save your money, people. Lastly, I am not interested in you all reaching out to me with a generic "We apologize that we did not meet your expectations, let's make things right" follow-up response. If you cared, you would have handled this situation properly to begin with. read more
