This course is extremely beautiful, extremely well managed. But it is psychotic and overdesigned. Actually, it is not a golf course ...it's a golf amusement park. Just too much of a good thing. Case in point: there is a bizarre double-dog-leg par 5 on the front that demands you hit a tee shot of 160 yards max, then the fairway drops off a cliff and cuts right. From your 160 point, you have essentially one option to hit a long iron down to the second dog leg, and if you miss by much your approach will be blind...if you can find your ball. I played yesterday in significant winds -- the Bodega weather station said SSW 16 mph but it appeared to much more. I have never seen the golf ball be so affected in flight...it became comical several times. Regardless of wind, there are so many mickey mouse situations I encountered that the course just made me mad. I'm a single digit handicap and can hit targets, but this was insane. Just like Peacock Gap and other courses that start out a little too "design happy," Bodega needs a redesign to make this course more fair for players. Nobody I know in the Bay Area likes to play this course often, and that should say something. read more

It is no doubt a beautiful golf course with breath-taking views of the Pacific. Make no mistake, the Links is old-school with challenging hole layout, multi-tier putting green, noisy and stinky 2-stroke golf carts and general drainage issues... Played here recently through a purchase on Golf Moose. Two of us played for $80 total ($40 each) with a cart. For what we got, you can't beat that price. It helped that it was an absolute perfect day weather wise, but this place is pretty incredible. You get views of the pacific on just about every hole that make you want to pinch yourself. Couple the views with a fun, challenging, and well manicured golf course, and you have a great day of golf. My group had a drink at the restaurant bar afterwards taking in more of the views, a great beer list, and an appetizer. I'd highly recommend this facility to experienced and novice golfers alike. read more

We were all set to play golf when the guy in the pro shop said no golfers under 8 allowed on the course. What a joke. My son, 6, started crying and this is stated no where on their website or in their rules. I was more than happy to pay for us both, but they said they had this rule that is written no where. read more

The only reason this course got four stars is the back nine. The front nine was a little tough to play not because it was technical but for the reason it was poorly maintained. It didn't make much sense with dozens of little "humps" in the middle of the "fairway" of which was almost nonexistent. The back nine was the saving grace to this course. It was well maintained, had terrific views of the bay, was challenging, and fun to play. If the front mirrored the back this would be a five star course. Other advantages to playing here was the price. I played mid week and with a cart was under 40 bucks. The staff was good and I look forward to playing here again. read more

Beautiful course with great views! It was a challenging course, so make sure you have more than your normal golf ball or two b/c you will definitely lose a few in the rough (likely 2 sleeves!). We got a deal on Travelzoo, so we had a golf cart, which I'm glad we did b/c the course is definitely hilly enough that I would have been wiped out. Fun place to play, but definitely not for beginners. I do wish that the golf carts were electric, b/c the carts were noisy so it felt like we were on a Disneyland ride. read more

Like a movie trailer where all the best bits are in the trailer, all of the best bits of the Links at Bodega Harbour are in the adverts you see on the web: 16, 17 and the 18th green. Right on the beach, waves crashing, blue sky... yes it's all there, too bad it takes the previous 15 holes to get there. Like Kurt F. says, this course is way overdesigned and is something you would create on a computer for Mario Golf, as opposed to anything connected with a traditional seaside course. This is Robert Trent Jones II showing us what a clever fella he is and how good his crew is at moving earth. This tagline from their website: "Experience the beauty and challenge of a true Scottish style links course", is utter nonsense and quite frankly a lie. I've played one bonkers links course (Cashen course at Ballybunion, not coincidently designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr.) otherwise no true links course should be anything like Bodega. There are some good holes here, before you get to 16 & 17, but they are few and far between. If you want a special round of golf on the Pacific Ocean for under $100, skip this place, and play Half Moon Bay Ocean Course or Pacific Grove. Beautiful 18 hole golf course overlooking Bodega Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, course fee information given over the phone is sometimes inaccurate and the verbal price is not honored at the pro shop upon check in for the tee time. This has happened twice now. We think the initial call is picked up by a Call Center rather than the pro shop. Wrong course fee quoted and pro shop shrugs their shoulders and takes no responsibility for wrong information. Golfers, get a name and their location if you book a tee time on the phone. Make sure you are talking directly with the pro shop, not some remote Call Center that apparently gets things screwed up. The pro shop WILL NOT honor incorrect pricing given by the Call Center. Bad business practices in my opinion and little effort to make the customer (now a former customer) happy. BW read more

Played on a Thursday at 7:15 am. No fog, no wind, not many people on the course with beautiful sunny skies. Got done in just 3:45 and didn't have to wait on a single tee. Overall a great round of golf. Great views of Bodega Bay, quiet and serene throughout. The course was in perfect condition. Manicured fairways, "real" sand in traps, and the greens were in top shape. While there is no GPS on the carts, there are plenty of yardage markers in the fairway and they are accurate. The only minor gripe, and the reason for 4/5 stars, is that about 30% of the tee boxes weren't level (at least where the markers were set that day). While not a huge issue, it can be disconcerting to have a side-hill lie teeing off on a par 3. While only a par 70 this is a challenging course - so don't let the low slope rating fool you. If the wind and fog are prevalent, many of the holes play much longer than the yardage suggests. Wet course conditions can also shift the balance from "challenging" to "what did I get myself into?" Additionally, the houses which line many of the holes can be intimidating for golfers who tend to miss badly right or left. As with most ocean-side layouts, putts will always move toward the water. Playing enough break - especially for beginners - will be paramount. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the course, so grab a cart for a relaxing ride or prepare for a good workout if you decide to walk it. I'll definitely play here again. read more

Played last Friday morning and had a great time. This course is challenging but fair if you hit from the correct tee box. It is well maintained. The staff was friendly. Pace was excellent until we hit the last three holes. Views were okay to start but improved to excellent as the light fog burned off the bay. A few slower twosomes let my wife and I through (we play fast) and were friendly about it. While we were waiting on the tee box on 18, a player in the group ahead came up to my wife and gave her 4-5 women's golf balls he had found which were like new. Overall a great way to spend a Friday morning. Oh yeah, our tee time was at 10 but there was no traffic and we got there way too early so they let us out at 8:30. Everything worked out quite well. read more

Bodega is similar to a great surf spot. It's far away, and requires forethought to catch it good. At first, I went when it worked for my schedule. I played alone in fierce freezing wind. I played in fog so thick every shot, and some putts, were blind. I played on punched greens covered in thick sand, and on greens vandalized by a local resident in a bitter dispute with the course. I wasted hours with drunks and slashers, watched the hopeful transform to the despondent. One afternoon in January long long ago I happened upon three locals. We played from the tips. They welcomed me into their circle. I played well, and remarked that we were lucky to get it so good in January. One of these guys gave me a wry smile. We talked over beers later, and he explained a few things to me. I play now four or five times a year. I never plan it in advance. When the weather conditions and course conditions line up, I go. ( Much like finding good waves.) It can get good any time of the year. It can get horrible for weeks or months on end as well. I caught it last Monday 10-14-13 at two p.m. and played alone as usual, which is how it works best for me. The course was at 72 degrees, wind soft, and greens rolling nicely. I played twenty seven holes quickly. As I came down holes 7 8 and 9 at six pm the sun was setting over goats rock, the seals were barking, and the waves breaking. Reaching the par 5 eighth in two I had a rare eagle putt. The ball glistened in the autumn sun. Bodega can suck balls, or it can be transformative. It's really up to the individual golfer Which way it goes down. read more

I gave them 1 star because the workers there are awesome and very friendly! Other than that, the course is a challenge but in the wrong ways. Try playing golf in a course with million dollar homes with tons of windows and the people in those homes own the course! I'm talking about narrow drives with homes on both sides! Weaving thru neighborhoods, weird 16 + 17th holes where you have to walk through fields (no carts on those holes). I don't mind bunkers, I don't mind trees and water hazards, i do mind annoying home owners who are policing how you play on the course and their homes have giant windows with no protective fencing or netting. Honestly, you're asking for it if you don't protect your home. I know they're probably rich, but still, that's just dumb. Other than that, the course is challenging being a links course (very hilly since it was built on sand dunes) and the scenery is gorgeous. read more

First off, I would only give 5-stars to courses like Pebble Beach (Golf Heaven). Having said that, the Links at Bodega Harbour is worth playing by all golfers. This well maintained links course has a little bit of everything. Rolling fairways, multi-tiered tee boxes, and spectacular views. Only complaint is their carts are gas powered. So they are a bit noisy and fume-smelly. Wish they would go electric instead. Other than that, no gripes to think of. Bodega Harbour is a fun course at a bargain price. read more

This course was alot of fun to play. The Friday morning we were there, it was extremely busy near our 9:50 tee time (mobbed). The views were awesome and there were many interesting holes. I'll echo the comments made by Gerald C. in his review, although mine is a higher rating. This course would be fantastic without all those houses that surround it. With the exception of holes 16-17, just about every tee shot and/ or greens approaches have homes way too close. One guy while eating his lunch at his backyard table, pointed to my ball for me, in the rough, just off the fariway. In other words, in his backyard. I nailed 3 of the houses (roofs) with tee shots. So I was holding my breath a couple of times with regard to the many windows Gerald C. pointed out. As he said, way too many, way too close! The snack shop window next to the pro-shop was very congested when we made the turn. But it was just a busy day there. The ferocious, bone-chilling, gale force wind the suddenly kicked up made our last several holes especially challenging. It was amazing to see how severely the wind could knock down a little, high-speed golf ball. When I play there again, I'll remember to bring the jacket I left at home this last time. I have to mention the awesome service we received. The parking lot is down a hill from the Pro Shop/ check-in. We were greeted at the car with our cart, and directions for check-in, practice green and driving range. The check-in was quick (we'd booked the tee time a week in advance). The service was friendly and the men's room, very clean. They were apologetic for pairing us up with another 2-some, but mentioned that it was just busy. I've never gotten an apology for filling out a 4-some, before. read more

Really fun, back 9 is challenging yet what you lose in ego you regain in awe at the views. 16-18 finish the course fantastically and it's almost too tempting to just run I to the beach when you're done, after all day waiting in anticipation to finish there. Play this course when the weather is great and you won't be disappointed. They are currently renovating the tee boxes for the 16th hole so it's temporarily a par 3 instead of par 4. We saw the beverage cart just once and could have used to see it again as water fountains were available at bathrooms but no ice water jugs were provided to refill. read more

I have played this course probably 25-30 times over the years, and have never been disappointed. This course is one of the hardest 6200 yard courses you will play. Conditions are usually very good. The green have a lot of undulations are are very tricky. Easy to three putt here. The price to play is very low given the quality of the course. The head pro and his staff are really friendly also. I drove up from Sausalito on a Wednesday morning recently to play the Links at Bodega Harbour. Even going in with high expectations, all of them were exceeded. You can't beat the views and I took the advise of past comments and went out early to avoid the afternoon winds, which definitely helped. My most pleasant surprise was how spaced out the tee times were. Compared to other courses in Marin and Sonoma, The Links seemed empty although the parking lot was full. Even with having to wait for (and eventually playing through) two foursomes, I still finished in under four hours. So nice compared to the 5+ hour rounds I've played at San Geronimo and Indian Valley. Although the course is not incredibly long, (I played from the white tees, as recommended for my handicap) most holes really make you think about club selection. Most par 4's have bunkers right around 225-250 yards out, right in play for most people's driver or 3 wood when there's a breeze. Even some par 5's (number 5 in particular) require an iron off the tee to set up a good second shot. Kind of fun compared to the typical driver-7 iron par 4 or driver-5 wood-wedge par 5. Finally, the greens were in great shape. They rolled truer than any course I've played in the area, almost completely void of bumps and ball marks. read more

The bar staff here is totally unprofessional and rude. Me and my date came in unbeknownst to us, 5 min after last call on a Saturday night (8:45). I kindly acknowledged them and their unfortunate information and turned to leave when they went out of their way to overtly laugh at us for our misfortune. Hands down the most beautiful course I have every played. There were ocean views from every hole with the sound of barking sea lions in the distance. We played recently on a beautiful sunny morning. The layout is questionable for a course with "links" in it's name - not like any links course I played. That said, the real issue right now is the absolutely awful conditions of the greens - laughably poor, with some greens patched with ill fitting sod and all of the rest just not puttable due to poor maintenance. Disappointing as they have been acceptable in previous rounds. Add to this the cold hot dog served up at the turn. Won't be back for a long time if ever. read more

This is one of my favorite courses in the North Bay. Challenging, scenic and very humbling are ways to describe this hidden gem. This course is not for the novice. I highly recommend playing this course in the morning (8-10). Before 8, you will encounter fog & dew afternoons you will be subjected to cruel winds that will bring you to your knees. This course will challenge ever aspect of your game and if you play from the tips expect to use every club in your bag. The management is always running specials to avoid the $90 green fees. This is NOT a walkable course, lots of uneven lies and many huge bay windows. As the saying goes "you break it you bought it" So if you have an uncontrollable slice or nasty hook be wary. Nice place except for the chemical spraying. We visited in May, renting a house and were exposed to a full chemical spray on the course. Our family has been ill ever since. Attempting to get golf lessons from Pro Shop has been a total pain. I made first request online via their Web site. Week and a half later I called and was told pro would call me back. Another week goes by and I call back again. This time I was told pro was out and I could email request to them. So far no response to any of my requests! Really poor customer service! read more

My golf buddies and I play Bodega about 2-3 a year and the course is always well maintained and the greens excellent. There is no such thing as a level green at Bodega as the course is built on the side of a hill so add about 7 points to your handicap. There are resident Bob Cats to see and and hawks so fun to see the wildlife. We saw one this Saturday again. The problem I've had with Bodega is the Pro shop and the grille. We played New Year's Eve weekend on this past Saturday and ordered a dog at the turn. This gal hands it me wrapped. I open it and I see it's BLACK CHAR. The dog was completely burned on the outside. I asked her for a plastic knife so I could do surgery and cut off the black. When I showed her the dog she didn't even say "I'm sorry". No empathy; no caring. I played here a month ago and I wasn't hungry yet so asked the young blond kid with the earring if the grille would be open at 130PM at our turn to #10 and he said "OH YEA". It closes a 2pm. Well, when I turned at 130PM, grille was closed. I was hungry too and needed some food, but no time on the turn to go to the Blue Bistro restaurant and order. So I know management is weak at Bodega for these two reason; we heard two other golfers express same sentiment that day. And for $90 a round, this is unacceptable. read more

Great course; lots of interesting holes. Definitely a tough course that's very challenging. Seems like you need to play this course a few times before you start to get it down. During our round (tee'd off at 1:20 PM on a Saturday) we experienced wind from 30-40 mphs consistently. Definitely the craziest round of golf I've ever played. I don't typically lose a lot of balls but this was one of those days that you just enjoy the company of your friends and the views that the golf course offers. It was almost an impossible day to score well. I don't know if we went on a bad day but it is hard for me to recommend this course to anyone without giving them the caution of the weather. Also, course does not have a driving range which is a bummer. We found out the day before we played and stopped at Adobe Creek in Petaluma. The drive from the East Bay was very nice and provided a lot of great views. Course was in good shape; greens were nice and everything about the actual course is 5 stars. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the weather. read more

I went here with my husband so he could enjoy a morning round of golf during our Napa Valley vacation a couple of months ago. We felt the price was reasonable for the course conditions and the wonderful views of the Pacific. I had to pay a $15 spectator fee, which I found to be slightly ridiculous, but whatever. He enjoyed the course, there were a few holes which were pretty challenging. We ordered hot dogs from the concession area. The hot dog itself was good, but the bun was cumbersome and a different type of bun would have suited the hot dog better. All in all, we had an enjoyable morning and would definitely return if we were ever in the area again. It was a nice break from wine tasting! read more
