For the 250th anniversary of America, my friends and I spent a splendid weekend at Newport. Someone recommended this place to my sister and we decided to stop in for dinner. The food exceeded our expectations so much that we returned the next day for lunch! It's located near the harbor with a gorgeous view of boats on the water. It was my first time trying lobster and it honestly tasted heavenly. Lobster sliders were light and yummy, clam chowder was smooth and creamy, shrimp was coated in zesty and flavorful chimichurri. Oh, and let's not forget about that invigorating virgin mojito. Restaurant feels homey and coastal. Waited less than half an hour for a table of 5, even though they were packed. So I think 3 stars is about right for this place. Came here for a 2nd dinner while partying with my friends. The location cant be beat. Its on the wharf in the most happening part of Newport. You get a nice view of the water and the boats/yacht passing through. The interior is very nicely done. We were seated promptly and snagged a harbor view patio seat. On a windless full moon night the setting was perfect. Only if the food could match. We ordered the fried whole belly clams and a lobster roll. It was mediocre. Not the best and not the worst. Although my friend who loves lobster rolls was expecting more sincce the name of the restaurant has Lobster in it. I ordered an oyster shooter and the oyster I got was a little pathetic. There was a tail the size of a baby's little finger and 2 claws smaller than a baby's thumb stuffed into a hot dog roll and to make it look full jammed in some lettuce along with lobster shell pieces that I almost broke a tooth on. The oysters/shrimp were super fresh, along with our other appetizer of calamari. The breading on the calamari was perfect and perfectly cooked/fresh. Not pictured, I did order the pirates punch which was not very strong with alcohol, it was pretty watered down which was disappointing. I had the Cajun grilled swordfish which was tasty, bit of spice, but the fish was not dry. My bf had the lobster bar burger and he enjoyed it but couldn't finish it at all. Overall all the food was very delicious, but those of us who got alcoholic beverages didn't have much alcohol in our drinks. Alright, so here's the deal with my fourth lobster roll adventure - it was a swing and a miss! The joint was only half full, unlike the bustling spots we passed by. The lobster rolls lacked pizzazz, no flavor game going on there! I ordered the sampler plate, and honestly, they were all just meh, nothing to call home about. This is a mediocre restaurant. Seafood is meh. I had the mussels. They were horrible - flavorless, small, and shriveled. The white wine sauce they were sautéed in was more like dirty water. Atmosphere was very pretty, directly on the water. However, the restaurant gave me more of a cheap feel, low quality. No specialty beers. However with a name called lobster bar I wasn't too impressed with their menu/ options for lobster. Usually lobster rolls have a hot option but at lobster bar you can either get a dressed cold lobster roll or naked cold lobster roll served with hot butter. As weird as that was to me I ordered the naked roll anyways hoping the hot butter would warm up the lobster. After 2 cups of hot butter I finally got my pieces of lobster to warm up a bit- but holy butter! The roll wasn't the best either- was a bit crunchy in a stale type of way in my opinion. I do have to admit there was quite a lot of lobster in the roll. However I've definitely had better in the area. I think if they offered a hot lobster roll option I might like this place a bit more.
