Alright, so here's the deal with my fourth lobster roll adventure - it was a swing and a miss! The joint was only half full, unlike the bustling spots we passed by. The lobster rolls lacked pizzazz, no flavor game going on there! I ordered the sampler plate, and honestly, they were all just meh, nothing to call home about. Despite the lackluster rolls, the view was killer! A restaurant with such prime waterside real estate definitely needs to up its game. Time for a chat with the chef and a menu makeover. Was a little skeptical because reviews aren't great but was a last minute reservation and we were pleasantly surprised. Nice big dining room on the water with large windows all around. We had the fried calamari with peppers to start, very fresh and great tasting. So I think 3 stars is about right for this place. Came here for a 2nd dinner while partying with my friends. The location cant be beat. Its on the wharf in the most happening part of Newport. You get a nice view of the water and the boats/yacht passing through. The interior is very nicely done. We were seated promptly and snagged a harbor view patio seat. On a windless full moon night the setting was perfect. Only if the food could match. We ordered the fried whole belly clams and a lobster roll. It was mediocre. Not the best and not the worst. Although my friend who loves lobster rolls was expecting more sincce the name of the restaurant has Lobster in it. I ordered an oyster shooter and the oyster I got was a little pathetic. It was a little mushy and super undersized. Should have asked for another one. Service was very friendly and quick. we went to the lobster bar on a summer monday night in july around 7pm, and it was about half full & easy to get a table outside, which was really nice at golden hour, gorgeous view. my family loved the lobster mac and cheese (seriously, they wouldn't stop talking about it), so definitely a win if you're into seafood. that said... if you don't/can't eat seafood, your options are pretty limited. i had the caesar salad with chicken and it was respectfully, awful. the chicken was cold, overcooked/chewy, flavorless and overall inedible. i get that this place is all about the lobster (as it should be), but people like me still want to eat with our seafood-loving families. we need at least one or two solid non-seafood options. please! read more

We ordered a chilled and a hot lobster roll for sharing--both incredible, with solid sides--crisp fries and an interesting, vinegary, not overly heavy or mayonnaise-y slaw. Rolls were stacked with fresh, tasty lobster. Clam chowder was very good as well. Yum yum!!! My cruise was at port near this eatery and due to the positive yelp reviews.. I just had to check this place out. The waitress was very friendly. We had the lobster roll w/ fries. YUM!! Went out for dinner here with the family and it was a very beautiful restaurant. They do take reservations as well! Food - everything was very delicious. The oysters/shrimp were super fresh, along with our other appetizer of calamari. The breading on the calamari was perfect and perfectly cooked/fresh. Not pictured, I did order the pirates punch which was not very strong with alcohol, it was pretty watered down which was disappointing. I had the Cajun grilled swordfish which was tasty, bit of spice, but the fish was not dry. My bf had the lobster bar burger and he enjoyed it but couldn't finish it at all. Overall all the food was very delicious, but those of us who got alcoholic beverages didn't have much alcohol in our drinks. Service - quick and catered to all of our requests, the waitress was super nice and actually took off one of the alcoholic drinks due to its watered down taste. Ambiance - right on the harbor/dock was a very nice view with the outdoor seating. Got to see a bunch of boats come and go from the harbor when eating dinner. I love lobsters so this restaurant was right up my alley. It's large with beautiful views of the ocean. We were visiting Newport and decided to get lunch there. The service was great. The interior was bright and airy; they even have outdoor seating on the deck but we opted for air conditioning. I started off with a New England clam chowder which was delicious; it had bacon, potato, clams, and light cream. My entree was a whole steamed 1-1/4 lb lobster with a side of cole slaw and fries. This is a mediocre restaurant. Seafood is meh. I had the mussels. They were horrible - flavorless, small, and shriveled. The white wine sauce they were sautéed in was more like dirty water. Mom had the fried clams, which "market price" cost $42!!! NOT worth it. Dad had the seafood cakes, which were probably the most decent thing on the menu. Atmosphere was very pretty, directly on the water. However, the restaurant gave me more of a cheap feel, low quality. No specialty beers. Stopped here for a quick lunch. We were seated on their beautiful deck overlooking the water so the views were great! My husband got their whole belly platter and loved it. I liked to as well! However with a name called lobster bar I wasn't too impressed with their menu/ options for lobster. Usually lobster rolls have a hot option but at lobster bar you can either get a dressed cold lobster roll or naked cold lobster roll served with hot butter. As weird as that was to me I ordered the naked roll anyways hoping the hot butter would warm up the lobster. After 2 cups of hot butter I finally got my pieces of lobster to warm up a bit- but holy butter! The roll wasn't the best either- was a bit crunchy in a stale type of way in my opinion. I do have to admit there was quite a lot of lobster in the roll. However I've definitely had better in the area. I think if they offered a hot lobster roll option I might like this place a bit more. I was slightly apprehensive going into The Lobster Bar since prices were higher than its competitors (especially for the lobster roll), but was pleasantly surprised overall and still dream about their fried whole belly clams. First of all, love that they take reservations and the ambiance is pretty unbeatable with its waterfront view and wraparound deck to enjoy the sunset, boats, and breeze from while you eat. As for the food: + Fisherman's Platter ($29) + add fried clams ($16): I'm not usually a fried foods girlie, but the fried clams were SO good. For the add-on price of $16, we got about 8 clams. The fisherman's platter itself was better than expected: shrimp and scallops were lightly battered but the fish had a heavy, crunchy batter that I didn't like. + New England Clam Chowder ($11): Another excellent clam chowder chock full of clams. Between a bowl of this and picking at the Fisherman's Platter, I was very satisfied. Someone in my party also go the 1.25lb boiled lobster and based on the market price, it was $50. Bottom line: Skip the lobster here and get the clam chowder and fried clams! read more
