    New England clam chowder
    Jason F.

I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my lunch for lunch. We happened to be in the area and thought that we would enjoy a place with lobster and Aquideck Lobster Co. fit the bill. It is located on Bannisters Wharf and has both a large indoor seating area as well as an outdoor seating area looking out over the water. Whenever we arrived there happened to be a line out the door waiting for the hostess to seat you and all of the outdoor seating was taken. Since we didn't want to wait for a long time, my wife and I decided to take the indoor seating. For lunch on this day I ultimately ended up going for a cup of New England clam chowder and then the grilled shrimp while my wife went with the broiled seafood plate. What happened to the lobster you ask? Well, it was incredibly expensive here and after eating a lot of it Maine over the summer and knowing other places nearby could get you double the lobster for the same price, we decided on other entrees. Anyways, the menu described my grilled shrimp as coming with rosemary, oregano, garlic and basil oil and my wife's broiled seafood plate as cod, shrimp, sea scallops, garlic butter and breadcrumbs. The first item to come out was my New England Clam Chowder. It was a decent chowder that was of medium thickness and with a lot of ingredients in it. There wasn't anything memorable about it but I also didn't have anything to complain about with it either. After finishing that my entree arrived I have to admit that I was actually quite happy about the looks of it. The shrimp had a nice green sauce on them and were cooked nicely. So I really enjoyed eating them, especially the char on the shrimp and the freshness of the green sauce. My sides were a little less inspired as the cauliflower was cooked well enough and could use some seasoning while the carrots were undercooked. I ended up not even trying the rice due to the fact that I wasn't hungry but my wife let me know that she thought it was good. Or service here was also quite meh. I finished my water before I had even started my meal and wasn't offered a refill until I was pretty much done with my lunch. The bottom line for me is that I probably wouldn't come back here again in the future. Yeah the food here was decent and I did actually really enjoy my shrimp but our service wasn't this best and this seems more like a tourist trap than some other restaurants in Newport.

Food is about average but no waiting time. Kinda disappointed about their lobster Mac & cheeses. At least great Habor view.

This is one of those places that's exciting when you first arrive. Large space, on the water seating and the perfect feeling of summer in Newport. The vibe is super casual making it perfect for virtually anyone families, groups, etc) From a venue and location standpoint, it's great. The food however is another story. I dined outside by the water and ordered the fish and chips after the server raved about it. Unfortunately the only excitement about the dish came from the server's recommendation. The lobster was extremely dry, and at certain points, hard to chew. It just seemed like there wasn't much effort that went into the dish. The fries were also room temperature. Really? Very disappointing. Given the abundance of truly amazing restaurants in Newport, I'll definitely be skipping this place going forward. Great service, great location, cool venue, but very sub par food.

Fresh Lobsters, fishing boats, and good drinks, What more do you want?! We really enjoyed this fun, hidden gem. Nestled all the way at the back of Bowens Wharf, you have to walk through the fish market to find this fun, lively spot. We ordered raw oysters, stuffed Quahogs, and the traditional cold lobster roll. The raw oysters were very nice...fresh and tasty. The lobster roll was delicious, with big chunks of lobster, light herbs, and just a touch of mayo. The stuffed Quahogs were probably the only thing that disappointed us. There was way too much breading and you couldn't taste the clams at all. Next time I can't wait to try the warm lobster roll, which seems to get good reviews.

Excellent clam chowder with large chunks of clam... A steal for $7.

Aquidneck is a destination that delivers. For all its function as a market for sea creatures, namely Lobsters, the restaurant and bar area serves as an additional opportunity for people to take in this unique and beautiful area of the country, in more ways than one. For starters, should you be lucky enough for an outdoor spot during lunch, the view is really nice. Right on the docks, with many a passerby sailing vessel to gawk at. Complementary to the perfect Newport view is the food and drink available to all patrons -- local beers from Newport area, along with some fresh food. - The steamers vary in size but we know they are fresh. - The clam chowder is chock full of chunky clams -- see my picture I uploaded to yelp for proof. - The hot lobster roll is delicious, fresh, and warm, and perfectly complemented with a side of the cucumber salad for a refreshing lunch option. My buddy and I stayed here talking for probably two and a half hours. We knocked a few brews back and enjoyed our time. WIll definitely be back when I am next in the area.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend and Newport resident. We said we wanted lobster and he said this was the best place. Appetizers we had: lobster quesadillas (oh, mama! They were so good!), grilled shrimp w/summer slaw, lobster bisque, and mussels (not as good as other restaurants, but they weren't bad either). We also enjoyed the garlic herbed bread they served. Entrees: lobster burger (beef burger w/lobster on top), fish and chips (this was "meh" - fish was bland), garden salad w/ add on lobster, fisherman's platter (fried fish, shrimp, scallops, french fries), broiled seafood platter (hubby felt the portion was small and needed more flavor), and I ordered the hot lobster roll recommended by our server. I subbed a garden salad for whatever it came with and our table shared a side order of fries. I loved the lobster roll and my family loved the quesadillas. Hubby loved the bisque. The salads were great. There's room for improvement on the fish meals. I liked that this place was casual and the view by the water was lovely.

My family and I were in search of good lobster and good service. The food was phenomenal and the service matched. I recommend the lobster Mac and cheese and the lobster. The calamari was also good and so was the the clam chowder. Our waitress was lovely and knew everything about the food and the town! We will definitely be back next time we're up here. The food was fresh and the lobster was amazing! Very fresh tasted straight out of the ocean.

Came here on a Monday night and waiter named Christian was super quick w getting drinks and food and he was nice. We ordered the couscous salad, the lobster avocado salad, the whole belly clams, and the hummus and vegetables. All food was delicious. While it was very delicious, the food was on the more expensive side. Our meal was over 100 dollars and we only got one entree, the clams. The view was great too. Will be coming back here.

    The view!

What a beautiful place to eat fresh seafood and watch the boats go by! Get a seat outside, totally worth it if there's a wait. Sitting in the sun right on the water, nothing beats that! The food is a bit pricey, but the view makes it worth it. Got the clam chowder which could have been hotter (pet peeve is when soup is not super hot when served), but with my lobster roll in front of me I didn't really mind! The lobster meat is mostly claws and soaked in butter. Amazing. Also had the oysters which were pretty fresh. They also have huge tanks of lobsters in the front that you can pick and cook yourself or have them cook for you. And there are some pretty big ones!

ok - this place handled the summer crowds decently. We waited about a half hour at the bar. Perfect location. The staff was stressed and did the usual tricks to try and get us to leave after we were done with our meal. The only complain is I got the lobster bisque and it had absolutely no lobster in it and it was delivered in a small dixie cup. Come on! At least throw a few chunks of lobster in it. You want to eat a prehistoric lobster the size of a dog? $150. I was tempted but in the end, I simply took a picture of the beast and settled for my cup-of-soup.

Lobster Roll with a perfectly made Dark & Stormy.
    Tim F.

Also reviewed as The Lobster Bar. We sat on the deck with a wonderful view. The sun at 5:00-5:30 can be brutal, so wear your best sunglasses and lots sunscreen. Started off with some perfectly made Dark & Stormy drinks served in mason jars (I have been drinking them for 25 years, so I know a good one). According to the waitress they use Barritt's ginger beer with the Gosling's Black Seal rum, so they are traditionalist. This place is very casual. Next up a nice cup of clam chowder which was served in a plastic cup. Finally a Lobster Roll with potato chips. It was nice, but since I was spoiled by the incredible Lobster croissant at The Moorings, it was no match. I found the bun to be overbearing and it took away from the taste of the lobster. I would go back. At the very least for another Dark & Stormy closer to sunset.

She was nice enough to let me try them and I chose the Trevino which was very good and paired great with my food. The bread was nothing special but solid and the high quality olive oil made up for it. For my main I got the chicken milanese and it was divine. I loved the vinaigrette on top perfectly acidic and vinegary. It cut though the oil and heaviness of the breading which was perfectly salted by the way. The arugula bean salad was sooo good and created such a well balanced meal. The one thing I will say is I believe their fryer does fish and chicken bc my chicken had a slight ocean taste but since I like fish I was not bothered but non fish people beware!

Must say, things are a bit "neat" and protocol/rule based and that is not entirely in a positive way. It's more like a cafeteria with strict rules rather than a family friendly restaurant. Must order before being seated, forks are handed to you in a prepackaged sets based on the number of parties, no reserving seats, some tables are specified for parties of 4 or 5 members, etc. Unsure. But it seemed more like a strict military protocol rather than somewhere to just come in and enjoy the fresh seafood! Saw one customer, party of two, being told to move to the other table since they have only two people. It's like, those seats would not even be filled up during their time there. Understand the strict rules, but some flexibilities might make sense in such scenario... rather than following the strict protocol, don't you think? Two sets of automatic paper towels roller in each of the male and female restroom. Now, that was a good thing, and presumably to ensure customers would always have one ready when the other is broken or runs out. But that's a bit anal.

Every time we come here the service is excellent and the food is amazing. This is what we come for right? Outstanding food and service! This year was no different than the other years and I love how the menu continues to evolve and change and everything that comes to life from the menu to the table is well thought out and bursting with harmonious blends of flavor. The presentation is gorgeous too! Plating is also important and they nail it! Okay let's gooooo! Come join our dining experience! We tried a bit of everything! We loved every bit of it. I'll mention my faves but that doesn't take away how hard it was to choose a fave! Everything was DELICIOUS ! Raw bar: Jamestown oysters . We had 10. We can't get enough east coast oysters. We live in the west side and I cannot say enough how much better oysters are on east coast! Slurp ! Mmm! Snacks: 1. Shartner's Farm Carrots: pea green pesto, pine nut, n'duja . If you're a meat, potato and pasta person and try to avoid your veggies, don't do that here. GET IT! It's such a great melody of textures and flavors that pair well. It doesn't feel like you are eating carrots and regardless it's a very dressed up bougie delicious carrot plate ! Mmmm . One of my faves out of the snacks. 2. Narragansett Creamery Burrata: green strawberry, speck, basil. Creamy, vibrant and just delicious Pasta: only had room in our tummies for 1 but every year we try different pastas and never disappoints. This year no exception. Maltagliati- hopkins southdowns lamb sugo, swiss chard, harissa, umbrian chickpea. Excellent! Pasta was perfect texture and consistency!! Little touch of spice from harissa which I loved (not overpowering). The Swiss chard was cooked to a crispy texture which I loved. I was a bit nervous about the lamb because it really can vary from place to place. However, I should have known better being from here they cooked/braised it to perfection: melt in your mouth type of soft and no weird or gamey taste. Definitely delicious pasta I recommend. Plates: 1. Duck Leg Confit- japanese turnip, spigariello kale, huckleberry conserva, duck jus. Personally my faves of the two plates but both delicious. The crispy skin from the duck and tender flavorful duck meat was just to die for. Loooooved. Plus the turnips and the amazing huckleberry conserva! Thinking about it makes my mouth water. So so good. 2. Beef Short Rib-swiss chard erbazzone, sunchoke, hazelnut. Loved it. Tasty as expected. Great flavor and tender. Dessert: 1. Olive Oil Cake- strawberry, rosé, lime curd, basil gelato. Wow! Oh wow! I'm so happy this time around they have some cake options. I love olive oil cake and now to pair with a basil gelato sounds insane right? Holy cow! Soooo good! Not what I was expecting. Strawberry, rose, lime and basil gelato flavor all work well together in this dessert. My fave dessert of the night! TRY IT! 2. Cookies N' cream: narragansett creamery ricotta, chocolate biscotti- yummy! Tasted like an elevated cookies and cream ! We loved our experience! Hopefully when you visit here, you can enjoy it as much as we do year after year. I absolutely love this place. Food is beyond excellent and is a place you have to stop by and visit while in Newport.

We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Laid on a bed of watercress and potato fondant it was the perfect delicate bite and contrasted nicely with the steak. We got the side of brussel sprouts with peanut Rayu which was a beautiful flavor bomb. I can't say enough about the food. Every single thing we ordered was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I find that to be a rarity in today's restaurant scene. I could not recommend this place more. We really enjoyed it and this will be used as a comparison to every restaurant I go to going forward. 6/5 stars! Come here
