However, the Local Baker did not have any loafs of bread but just some cookies and pastries - it definitely is more of a cafe than a bakery. Been years since we were here and I remember that there was great customer service, now with the pandemic the staff is even more accommodating. Got the tuna on a croissant it was very flavorful, a little different because not use to bell peppers in the tuna but it gave it a nice flavor and the croissant was fresh and soft. Also got the turkey cranberry on ciabatta which is my favorite sandwich I have tried here so far. Turkey is juicy and cranberry was actual cranberry not the jello kind. They have these pastries that I can never remember the name of that are absolutely delicious. They have this thick layer of butter and sugar on top....mmmmmm yummy! I never leave without one. Their breakfast croissant sandwiches are the best I've ever had too. The croissant is light and buttery and filled with egg, sausage and cheese (they also serve bacon instead of sausage or just the egg and cheese). Delightful little bakery that has been around since 1895 (not in that same exact location)! Parking can be tricky in this area but if you wait around a little bit someone else likely to leave. We came after a bike ride on the Pacific Electric Trail and had the veggie panini (which came with fried rice and a macaroni salad) and a guava and cheese pastry. The sandwich was great except for the American cheese. If I had known it would contain American cheese I would have ordered it without the cheese. It didn't feel like it really went with the rest of the sandwich. The fresh bread was amazing in both smell and taste! While we enjoyed the fried rice, the macaroni salad was a bit tasteless. The winner has to be the guava and cheese pastry, which rivals that of Portos! If you don't feel like driving all the way to the nearest Portos and waiting half the day in line, definitely give this a try. The guava flavor comes through so tangy, sweet, and strong while the cream cheese pairs so nicely with it! Unfortunately, one of the two guava and cheese pastries we ordered seemed to be missing the cheese entirely. It was still nice with just the guava but it was kind of sad to miss half of the filling. I probably won't make a special trip to come back here but if you're looking for a quick and friendly place to grab a casual lunch/pastry in the area, this will do the trick :) read more

My son and I stopped by today while we were trying to burn some time before my son's acting class started. The owner was so friendly and patient with us. My son has autism and is very curious about various baking methods. My son asked several questions and the owner kindly answered each of his questions while I decided on which pastries to purchase. The friendly woman working in the back also came to the front to speak with my son, and we both left happily after such a pleasant customer service experience. My son really enjoyed his cake pop. I chose the chocolate chip cookie, and it was a nice balance of slightly crunchy and chewy. It also wasn't overtly sweet which allowed for the quality of the chocolate chips to stand out. I brought the guava, cream cheese pastry home to my husband and he said it was delicious! He said the pastry was very flaky and the filling was immensely tasty.
