This was the worst service I have ever had. if she wouldn't have been pretty she wouldn't have had a job. We saw her take our order and bring us our bill. Our drinks sat empty almost our entire meal until another server brought us our food, and we asked him for a refill. It never came, so we asked the hostess. I have been a server for 8years, so I am crazy patient when it comes to service I understand how hard it can be, but it was just bad! (there seems to be two listings for the same place) My friend and I typically get together once per month at Moon Under Water (awesome) and decided to give a new place a try. I my 20+ years of being in Victoria I had never been into any establishment that had occupied this space. I had no expectations and was very pleasantly surprised. The service was extremely attentive despite the fact that it was busy. The owner or management (both?) also seemed to err on the side of caution with regards to staff - there were lots and they were all keeping busy. On Friday nights they pump up the music - not my usual thing - but we were still able to have a conversation and really enjoy the night. My friend ordered a burger and I ordered the wings. Two basic staples you need to get right. His burger had a beautiful bun (brioche perhaps?), the fries were perfect and the patty clearly made in house. My wings were large, very tasty (salt and pepper) and crispy. the blue cheese dressing wasn't too strong either. These are not 25 Cent wings! I was debating about somewhere to eat dinner at on a Wednesday evening while visiting the city. This place has some good reviews in that vicinity, they also seemed to have the largest local crowd. Unfortunately their service was not very good. After standing at the door for a few minutes no one acknowledged me so I thought maybe it's a seat yourself place (no sign otherwise). Since my last review this has become a regular spot on the rota. Fantastic patio in the heart of the action. Friendly, efficient and attractive servers and hostesses. Great blue moon wings and good selection of beers and cocktails. Prices tend toward higher end, but given the location and experience, well worth it. I had the opportunity to visit the Local Kitchen a few times last summer, 2012. The food was incredible, I really can't forget about it. I got the ribs with the Mac n cheese and they are to die for. The ribs are rubbed in what smells like brown sugar and/or maple syrup, it smells amazing. The meat just falls off the bone and the mac n cheese, YUM. They have some interesting seasonal brews. This spot is absolutely gorgeous and super conveniently located to downtown Victoria and the tourist district. Right next to a very cool street market on Sunday mornings and afternoons, and the patio is filled with beautiful flower baskets. Had an excellent dinner at The Local Kitchen. Appreciated the service - the waitress was well informed, enthusiastic, and timely. Had perhaps the best cioppino ever - excellent ingredients, and with a bit of spice that (since we asked the chef) turned out to be sriracha. Families take note - since it's not technically a "pub" you can feed your kids there and have a good time yourselves - nice since many of the eateries nearby are pubs that don't admit minors. read more

The Stanley Cup Poutine was excellent. One of the better Poutines I've had on the Island. The wings ... Not so much. The outside was good, but inside kinda soggy, like it was not cooked enough. My wife had the Spinach and Goat Cheese Stuffed Chicken Penne. She said it was the best she has ever had. Very delicious. The service adequate. Nothing special. We were seated immediately and got our drinks quickly. After we ordered, our food came quickly. However, the waitress never came back to see if we were doing ok until we were almost finished our meal. (Actually I think my wife was finished with hers). Overall, our experience was just ok. My first and last visit here: brought French friends to dinner for a food experience. Bad, it turned out... The lobster bruschetta is just a pretentious name for a piece of bread with some stuff [lobster, crab or... whatever] on top. Fish and chips: fish was thin and the batter rather soggy+ gleaming with grease. The side yams with chipotle sauce was just yams as the chipotle was missing from the sauce which was rather some sour stuff with a lot of cumin in it. The waitress offered to bring me some hot sauce to make my own stuff... well, thanks- I can do that home, as an experiment but not at the restaurant... and yes-- very pricy for what they have to offer [excepting the view], e.g. why should a beer cost $7 [more than half the cost for a 6pack], as a previous reviewer mentioned?! I would give this restaurant ZERO stars if I could. The service was beyond slow. They got half of our order wrong. We had to ask three times for a spoon for the soup. Speaking of soup, it was the WORST mushroom soup ever. The pulled pork was bland and the bun tasted like it was from Burger King. When we were finished we had to go in search of our server to pay the bill. Then she gave us the wrong bill. We paid in cash, but the change she brought was the amount of the bill, not the change. And to top it off, the tables are so uncomfortably close you're practically sitting on laps, but you can't move the tables even a little because they're bolted to the ground. read more
