Patio - if you must come here, sit on the patio.

5 stars for the patio dining 3 stars for weak cocktails 4 stars for great service We were drawn in by the beautiful patio. Hard to miss it when it's surrounded by flowers in pots everywhere here. Sadly, the cocktails here are lacking alcohol. All 3 cocktails were very weak - Guy Ritchie (gin & tonic), Pimms Cup, Moscow Mule. We were all wondering if they just tricked tourists here. The cocktails are $13-$16 each - pretty pricey but I get that we're in the thick of touristy area during peak season. And my daughter's virgin Shirley Temple was not made with grenadine - maybe strawberry syrup instead? And it wasn't even stirred. All the red syrup sunk to the bottom. I would skip this spot and go somewhere else.

During our visit to Victoria, we stumbled on The Local. The patio was packed every time we walked by so we decided to stop in for lunch one day. The food was very good for bar food but the atmosphere was a bit much for the lunch vibe we were seeking. They had TVs with the latest sports on but then there seemed to be a party on the second floor and the bar area was so packed you had to push your way through to get to the bathroom. Highly recommend riding the poutine (thought it was slightly salty) and the fish and chips.

Cool lights and signs.

Today's visit to Victoria, B.C. we stopped at The Local and tried their Maui Love (flatbread), House Smoked Texas Pulled Pork Sandwich, Pound of Wings, Stanley Cup Poutine, Pacific Halibut and Chips (upgraded to Poutine) with a pint of Acres of Darkness stout. We are so glad we ate here. Excellent customer service from beginning to end. We were seated as soon as we arrived (party of 5). Our food was served within 10 to 15 minutes of ordering. Our food was hot, fresh and most of all delicious. Maul Love flatbread had a hint of sweet flavor yet with a spicy kick. Just enough red peppers to bring out the flavor and balances the taste of pineapple. This is a must try. Smoked Texas Pulled Pork was tender and barbecue sauce was perfect. Portion size is the pulled pork inside the bun was plenty. Poutine was yummy with the right amount of gravy. It went well with the pint of Acres of Darkness Stout. Our server was awesome. She was great from beginning to end along with her food recommendations. Will tell all our family and friends to try out The Local on their up coming visit to Victoria. We also enjoyed the ambiance. We were seated up in the closed balcony by the huge windows.

We had just gotten off the ferry and were starving. Walked up and got a table right away. Our servers were lovely, and brought drinks and took our order. We enjoyed the food, the nachos really are huge- almost too big, need 4 ppl to order it. Chicken tenders and fries are the typical. And the poutine was good, the bacon especially nice. Strange to me on the menu for the poutine it says fries, but doesn't say gravy, but it comes with gravy.... We ate inside, it wasn't took loud and lots of tvs to watch the Olympics.

Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap and Fries

Chicken Caesar wrap was slammin'. Good chicken to salad ratio. One of the best i've had tbh

Great location! Bastion Square, view of the harbor and street for people watching, flowers galore! Beautiful outside seating and plenty inside if you're feeling the need for AC. Food was great, service prompt and super friendly. They even offer dog bowls of water for your furry family.

This place was a great find. We sat outside and had a nice time! The food was delicious! I had the fish and chips and upgraded my fries to the garlic fries. My friend had the blackberry Moscow mule and the steak tacos. The fish and chips were so delicious. The spicy mayo was so good! My friend loved the tacos as well. She said they were very flavorful!

Hey, did you happen to see the Northern lights last night???
Jerry H.

Great place for a quick pint! We came in on a cruise with very limited time and they were very accommodating. We asked the host if we were gonna see the Northern lights that night and he laughed at us, and said, who told you that? We got the last laugh, epic light show that night when we got back to the ship.

Went on Friday night and was great so we had to go back to before catching the ferry home.

Cheesesteak Sandwich

The service is top-notch, the nightlife is rock'n, unfortunately I wish I could say the same for the food.... Ordered the $24 cheesesteak sandwich and I wish I hadn't... It was more bun than anything else, and the bun was dry and not roasted, it lacked flavour and condiments (mayo, mustard or anything would have been nice). I love the patio in the summer, I think I'll still to that with bevies and bypass the food going forward.

Fun place, lots of TV's, bustling but not so loud that you couldn't hold a conversation. Plus, POUTINE!

Best fries in the city. Their burgers are great too but need more seasoning and should have a better crust. Less lettuce as well.

Our party of four have been checking out pubs in Victoria during this trip. So, we decided to check…read morethis place out for dinner. The first point is the food was well presented and very tasty. It was Monday and the special was fish and chips but we had that yesterday so we picked other things. The spicy chicken sandwich was very good. My wife commented that the yam fries were great. The tomato soup was top notch as well. The service was excellent. We ended up having two different servers. Second time we were switched out during our trip. Kind of funny but it gave us an opportunity to meet a couple servers. Both were excellent and took good care of us. I don't usually comment beyond good service but both ladies were funny, playful, and just plain awesome. The original server checked back as well to do nothing other than make sure we were having a good time and to share some laughs. The folks that ran the food were also engaging and genuinely wanting to provide good a great experience. All in all, the best place we have dined at to date in Victoria!

The restaurant itself is beautiful the inside and original decor is quite exquisite as it used to be a bank. The food was OK. I felt like it was overpriced for portion served and lacked a little bit of flair for something that is normally smaller portions. The oysters were good and a cocktail was decent, but since we weren't super impressed with the other appetizer, we decided not to have dinner there. The service was OK, but they were very busy so we had to go up and get our check when it was time to leave.

While in Victoria, BC during a port stop on a cruise we went on an Ale Trail excursion and the…read morefirst of three stops was Whistle Buoy. Talk about hitting out of the park with the first stop! Whistle Buoy is located in a Market Square that's a beautiful open air area surrounded by shops, boutiques, restaurants, assorted businesses, and vast tracts of land with chairs and tables. Since it's surrounded by buildings on all four sides the wind would be challenged to ruffle your hair once inside. For this stop of the Ale Trail excursion we were each allowed one glass (not a taster...a full 12oz glass) of one brew. They have roughly a dozen taps that run the typical gamut of beer styles. I immediately gravitated toward the Shaft Coffee Stout. Not my usual go-to, (I'm usually more of an IPA / Pale Ale kinda guy) but something about "Dark. Coffee. Chocolate" grabbed my attention (Here's the part where Jim has an advantage. Jim's wife doesn't drink beer, so Jim gets her selection, too, so she (ok, I) chose the Froth Hazy Pale for hers (ok, for me).) I didn't expect the highlight of the excursion to be the very first beer I had, but the Shaft Coffee Stout was quite possibly the best beer I've ever had. It was smooth and rich and had such an amazing flavor. Honestly, it was more like dessert. I'm not saying my wife's beer (ok, my 2nd) wasn't awesome, it's just that the Shaft set the bar REALLY high. ( I'm just talkin' 'bout Shaft! ) Our group sat in the outdoor, covered beer garden, the weather was slightly overcast, and we were surrounded by like-minded beer lovers (except my wife, who donates to my cause.) As we sat the Market Square was busy with life as people walked their dogs, visited businesses, and a group of elementary school kids was escorted through the square. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and watch the world go by. The restrooms (gender neutral, thank you) are small...ok, tiny. There's barely enough room to change your mind. I do have to call attention to two things, though. First, it has the tiniest sink I've ever seen. Surely this thing had to be custom made. Second, they have a Code of Conduct posted on the wall, which I genuinely appreciated. Nothing outrageous, just a focus on respect and common decency. If I were able to get Shaft Coffee Stout at home I'd never leave home (actually I would just to get more Shaft Coffee Stout). It was only a brief visit to Whistle Buoy Brewing, but if I ever found myself living in Victoria, BC, there is no doubt this is where I'd hang out.

Great vibes, even better food! While the menu is very small, the sandwiches and grilled cheese were…read moredivine! The beetroot aioli I could eat by the bucket. There are boardgames and good vibes, all around, plenty of seating outside, quick lines and good service from the staff. Would go back!
