Went for lunch today. Good came out in 10 minutes and was delicious. Ordered the smoked loaf patty melt and it was amazing. Food was nice and hot, fries were crunchy but soft inside, big thick cut spirals. Good location and decent prices. A good list of local beers on tap as well as some local mixed drink creations. We were on the last day of our trip and headed for the airport. Found this gem on Yelp and wish we would have known it was there when the trip first started. Amazing food and AMAZING service. They were sweet to the kids, gave us great recommendations, offered to take our photo by the marina. The food came out fast and was just incredible. I can't say enough great things. Greasy greasy food. (This is likely the only negative review I have ever left a place.) Either (1) all the positive reviews of this place are friends and family of the owner, or (2) they just got a new cook and new food supplier. I absolutely love greasy bar food like the next guy, but this was over the top. The crab dip had pools of brown oil all in it, and very little identifiable crab. The Grouben (grouper Ruben) was a combination of pre-frozen fried fish and grease-soaked white sandwich bread. The fish tacos were the worst in the area in terms of presentation and taste. Tried this last night, and it was great! Fried green tomatoes with spicy aioli, with bits of shrimp and crab meat added on top. Shrimp tacos were good. Sister had a salad with grilled grouper added on top. She said that was one thing f the best pieces she had in a long time. Tall margarita at a good price. Highly recommend!! This location has hosted several restaurants in recent years but The Local's Eatery is the best one yet. My wife and I had the Grouben Sandwich (a Reuben sandwich made with Grouper fillets). This was an excellent variation of a classic sandwich and I'd recommend it. The sandwiches came with thick fries. While they tasted OK, they were too big for my liking. The desserts (all pies) were excellent as well - the chef may have missed his calling as a master baker. We had Key Lime pie and Dreamcicle Pie. I'd bet any of their desserts would be just as good. Service was also very good. We're going back. The only recommendation I'd make would be to have the bartender keep the tip of the beer taps out of the beer in the glass. read more

Had dinner here last night and we were all so glad we made the decision to try a new restaurant in Niceville. We were seated outside under the canopy area. We started with the shrimp dip and pita appetizer and a large caesar salad to share. As entrees, my 11 year old son had the fish tacos and he really enjoyed them. We also tried the Gruben sandwich, the meatloaf sandwich and my husband had the meatloaf that was not served as a sandwich. All were delicious and the fries were especially interesting. They were thick cut spirals with the perfect combination of crispy outside and soft potato inside. We've never had fries like these anywhere and they are unique to this restaurant. Everything tasted great and we will definitely be going back. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait if you go around dinner time on a Friday night. That's a good sign so just be prepared. We had to wait about 20-25 minutes for a party of 5. read more

I gave this place a two star rating because the ambience and the view was great . I am a local and I know what is available in the area. Additionally, I know fresh fish from frozen. I would hope when I ordered the special I was told it was local and fresh. I receive my entrée, there was more water around the fish then oil. This is always a giveaway from fresh and frozen. When I complain to my waitress, that this was not fresh her comment was it is fresh. She Then proceeded not to ask us, if we wanted anything else. This is a great place to get away from the craziness of Destin and the enjoy some good food in a very quiet setting overlooking the Boggy Bayou. Sat outside on the deck and enjoyed the Nashville Hot Shrimp, the Smoked Chicken Sandwich, and the fresh fish of the day (Tile fish.). Finished it up with some Key Lime pie...awesome. The wife and I have been wanting to check out The Local's Eatery since they opened. We finally had the time to get together with some friends and have dinner there. To be honest....it was some of the best food I have ever had hands down. I got the Smoked meat loaf sandwich and my wife got the smoked sausage penie. Both of them were made to perfection! I also got I slice of the raspberry cheesecake for the wife to try and she said it was the best tasting/flavorful cheese cake she has ever had. I will personally suggest this "Local spot" to ANYONE that is ever looking for great food and a great atmosphere!! read more

My family and I came down to Destin for vacation and decided to try this restaurant even though it is out of the way. The prices were reasonable but the service was extremely slow. The food came out cold and the flavors were marginal at best. We thought it was a strange pairing of food and wasn't interested in most of the selections.
