This review is solely about the Love Island watch parties that are held. The flyer advertised $10 flatbread pizzas but the only menu they were serving consisted of 5 different types of street tacos and shrimp ceviche. The pork belly tacos came out COLD. We let the server know and was able to switch it out for the steak option. Every food item was incredibly bland and lackluster. Side note: when my friend grabbed her cocktail with her ticket, he asked if she wanted beer or wine. Luckily, she is assertive and asked for a cocktail. When I went to order my drink (with the ticket), he asked what drink I wanted so I got the same thing as my friend, but in a completely different size. HUH? Overall, I would not come back again for this event. The original menu looked promising, but again, we didn't get to try that. I wanted to love this place because of the potential. It's so cute. Currently, it's the only star left to give after my last few visits. I've been a few times since my initial review and the place is never adequately staffed. If you're ever greeted to seat, it takes longer than necessary for a dead location to take your order, fill it, bring it to you and even check in on you. Forget refills on drinks or wanting a second drink. The food is terrible. I was served what was supposed to be chilaquiles but it was actually bag tortilla chips with what tasted like cheap store bought canned enchilada sauce sprinkled on it with what tasted like powdered scrambled eggs (not even given the option or asked how I want my eggs). What's worse is I think they attempted to pass off Parmesan cheese as cojita cheese. The flavor wasn't there, it was far too salty. I had not one but two bones in the small empanadas I ordered. The flavor otherwise was good, and the picked red onion was a nice compliment. I hope they actually figure this place out and overhaul both service and menu because for such a cute location, this isn't it. read more

Stumbled upon Lock and Key while showing some out-of-town guests around on an early Saturday evening, and I'm really glad we did--at least at first. We heard live music from outside and decided to stop in, and the band Haze was absolutely amazing. Great energy and sound, definitely a highlight of the night. Service was another standout. Our bartender, Rob, was exceptional, friendly, attentive, and really helped make the experience enjoyable. Unfortunately, things took a turn later in the evening. As the venue started transitioning for the late-night dance crowd, we were asked to give up our booth (which was apparently reserved) and finish our drinks standing. Not long after, they removed all the chairs entirely, leaving no seating options. This was especially frustrating since the place wasn't even close to full yet, and as someone with arthritis in my legs, it made the situation physically uncomfortable and disappointing. Came here twice and Brandie was my server both times and she was amazing! We had great service and offered some great recommendations. We came during Happy hour and ordered: -chicken pesto flatbread- it was great but could have benefited from more pesto and more balsamic glaze -Drunken chicken and fries: such a great deal, so much food and flavorful -Mango heart cider this was amazing! After work, my girl and I decided to check out The Lock & Key for happy hour. When we walked in, it wasn't many people there, I'm guessing because it was raining and the weather wasn't the best. The waitress greeted us right away and seated us at a booth, which was nice and comfortable. I ordered the chicken pesto flatbread, and my girl got the chicken tenders with fries. I kept it simple with a glass of water. The bartender, however, surprised us with a complimentary drink they were testing for the summer. I believe it was a vanilla, pineapple, coconut rum cocktail and let me tell you, it was really good. If that's one of their upcoming summer drinks, it's definitely going to be a hit. While waiting for our food, I noticed they were playing a mix of old-school and new-school R&B. As an R&B fan, I loved the vibe. A few times, my girl and I even caught ourselves singing along. It made the whole experience feel fun and relaxed. The food was solid. My chicken pesto flatbread tasted good, but I do wish it had a little more pesto and maybe a light oil drizzle on top to boost the flavor. Still enjoyable overall. One downside was that the restaurant felt pretty cold inside. I understand it was raining, but it would've been nice if the heater was on to make it more comfortable. The waitress also mentioned they host events and have one coming up called R&B Bingo. They made sure we were taken care of throughout the night. We had a few cocktails which were delicious and then we tried some of their tapas. The food was delicious we tried the queso fundido which was soooo good. We couldn't get enough of it. We also tried the short rib which was so tender and juicy. I learned about the Valentine's Night event through a social media advertisement that promoted the evening as a great experience for couples. Based on the description, my husband and I decided to attend since we were looking for something simple to do on a weekday. The food was enjoyable, the tacos were well prepared, and the drinks were good. The server who took our order was attentive, professional, and provided excellent service. There were, however, several concerns that impacted our overall experience. While I understand the importance of security for safety, it should be applied consistently. My husband was patted down while other guests were not, which made him feel singled out. Whether intentional or not, inconsistent practices can create a perception of profiling, and perception matters. We were assigned a table in the center of the venue, which initially seemed fine. However, the chairs were very thin and uncomfortable, causing me to slide forward while seated. When my husband politely asked if we could move to another table with better seating, he was told it was reserved. Later, we observed guests freely moving and sitting at that table, indicating it was not reserved as stated. Our waiter kindly addressed the situation by bringing a more suitable chair, which we appreciated. Additionally, we felt overlooked as guests. A staff member appeared to be taking photos for social media but did not ask if we would like a photo. As it was also our wedding anniversary, a photo would have been a meaningful keepsake. Overall, we felt less engaged with compared to the younger crowd, which gave the impression that older couples or non-regulars were not a priority. In summary, the food was good and our waiter provided excellent service. However, inconsistent security practices, seating issues, and a lack of inclusive customer engagement negatively affected the experience. One star for great Tacos, drinks, music, and Waiter. We met friends here for happy hour and dinner. The Lock and Key has HH from 4p-7p an hour longer than most establishments. We had the guacamole /chips and Empanadas from the HH menu. Both dishes were tasty. For dinner we had the Family Feast selecting Skirt steak, Prawns and Pork belly. The prawns were some of the biggest I have ever seen. The pork belly had a mango habanero sauce that was to die for. The skirt steak was tender and tasty. The feast included pickled onions, Shishito peppers and rice. For $63 the feast was awesome. Our first visit to Lock & Key was pretty disappointing. To be fair, they appeared to be short staffed, but they were also not that busy. At all. Like one table with a few people were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived. Upon given a chance to sit wherever we'd like since there was no hostess on duty, we first selected a booth but the table was dirty. In the time it took someone to come over to wipe it off, we just decided to sit elsewhere. Friendly but lackadaisical even forgetful service and mediocre drinks and food did not impress. While we had a second round of drinks, not one of the four small plates we ordered were completely devoured, and some were barely tasted then left there to be taken away. For the record, we got the arancini, empanadas, drunken tenders and papas bravas. Pretty meh all the way around. Very unfortunate that I'd made the suggestion to meet a colleague and his partner here before a show next door at Harlow's. Lock and Key? More like Hit or Miss. Made reservations on a Tuesday at 6pm. Dine Downtown week but we ended up ordering from the happy hour menu. We split four small plates. We tried to order the slider trio, which was out, so we opted for the John Smith burger and fries $11 happy hour option. This tasted like your best backyard BBQ burger. Juicy, perfectly medium rare in the middle, toasty grilled bun, cheese sauce and pickles. Fries were hot, crispy on the outside and delightfully fluffy on the inside. Next, (ranked in order of preference) was the ceviche $12. Lots of chopped shrimp pieces, bright, fresh Pico and house made chips. This was a nice portion for the happy hour price. A few of our chips were burned but served to us anyway (?!?). Sadly, our other two items ranged from disappointing to gross. I'm from NYC where my corner pizzeria offered golden brown arancini balls the size of a softball for $4. Lock and Key offered three tablespoon- sized clumps for $8. They looked burnt- dark brown on the outside, but had the satisfying crunchy shell that ofsets the creamy interior (usually) beautifully. I thought these were pretty dry with minimal flavor. When the dish is basically deep fried leftover rice, I would expect more for that price. But the Mojo Pork Belly $10 happy hour was bad to the point of gross. 5 fried pieces of pork belly...or actual three pieces of nearly pure fat. I literally spit out three mouthfuls of fat. Only one piece had a decent amount of meat. I get that porkbelly is fatty, but usually it's cooked better. When food is hit or miss, service makes all the difference. I get that this is not a high end place but the hostes was in leggings, slippers and a hoodie from a different business. Bartender was also our server, taking care of the whole place... really kind of slowed the pace of the meal. So overall, there are some nice items on the happy hour menu, but not enough for me to come back and order from the full dinner menu. read more

I was in line for 30 minutes. The line barely moved at ALL (it was packed, it happens) and after waiting for all that time and seeing two or 3 people get in, security told me they weren't allowing anyone else in. Turns out they don't let anyone in after 1AM, but instead of seeing how slow the line was moving and giving any of us a heads up just in case, they let us stand there wasting our time for half an hour. Common courtesy to warn people so they don't waste their time if the line is hardly moving at all. Fuck these guys. read more

You can find both meters and non meters parking around the area. Came here with friends on weeknight so they were not busy. This was my first time visiting this restaurant for an event. I specifically purchased a booth that was supposed to seat four people. However, when we arrived, there were no booths available. The server told us she would try to arrange one for us, but after waiting quite a while, I finally asked if we could just be seated somewhere else. We were seated outside, which was fine, but then no server came to our table for a long time. I had to ask someone to send a waiter to us. By that point, my appetite was already gone. We ordered just one appetizer, but after waiting 30 minutes, it still hadn't arrived. I finally asked the waiter if they could simply pack it in a to-go box. I have never experienced such poor service at a restaurant. If it weren't for the event, I would have left as soon as I found out the booth I paid for wasn't available. I came for a friend's birthday during happy hour, and we ordered a round of tapas and drinks for our table of four. The service was lackluster and the food was decent at best. We ordered the kale chopped salad, coastal ceviche, arancini, and patatas bravas. Menu descriptions sounded more appealing than the plates we were served. Do NOT make the same mistake we did and purchase tickets to the FIFA watch parties. They will not let you in. The girl host picks "favorites" and who she will allow admittance into business. In my opinion it's a terrible way to do business. She was allowing people in, that did not pay for tickets. How does that make sense? Note to owner: take a step back and fully review your employees. Location of business is in a great location. But the service is absolute (pardon my language) but nothing more than absolute shit. On a date night, my husband and I decided to come try the lock and key tapas bar. Despite coming on a Saturday night, it was fairly empty. I was pretty disappointed with the initial lack of service - after being seated, it took almost 15 minutes for our server to acknowledge us and come get our drink order. I'm not sure if it was miscommunication or what. That initial hiccup aside, the drinks and tapas themselves were quite tasty. For my beverages, I started with the "Don't Worry Key" and finished with the "Lock Smith Mule". Both were tasty and refreshing. For our meal, we decided to try the patatas bravas, scallops, pork belly, and the arancini. Everything we tried was extremely tasty and what you would hope for from a tapas bar. There was a bar in the middle of the area with two TV screen showing music videos. The genre was R&B & hip hop, which is our type of vibe. We got our vodka shots and vodka soda in, had to drink light as we were planning on club/ Bar hopping. I don't believe there's a dance floor. But saw some peeps dancing near the area that's towards the bathroom. Literally you could dance anywhere. Additionally there's were a few booths by the wall that were VIP booths. A Line was forming outside as we drank and got our dancing in before we headed out. Cant really say how the crowd is as we didn't stay long enough. The food was amazing - I got the soup as a starter and the pork belly as my main. I also really liked the berry tart for dessert. The staff were very helpful and constantly checking on our party. Of course the drinks were fantastic, as usual. I tried the Paloma, Margarita, Mimosa, and Espresso Martini. It was a little empty in the restaurant for a Thursday and I hope my bad review a year ago didn't have anything to do with that. I liked all the decorations of the place and spacious design. Waited a while for our server as we had to flag one of the radio carrying crew to tell them we were ready to order. Dine Downtown 2024 1st course. Tomato Bisque Soup 4/5 too tangy and Arancini 3/5 had an aftertaste. 2nd course. Mojo Pork Belly 5/5 crispy & deep fried with perfect accouterments. Beef Short Ribs 5/5 tender meat in sweet butternut squash puree. 3rd course. Maya's Churros 4/5 greasy and fried well done. Key Lime Pie 5/5 great combo of tang and sweetness. The crew was nice and helpful even though the joint was bustling past 6 pm. They do need to improve organization with some points to work on, like: 1. Dine Downtown 2024 experience: We were seated in a booth across the bar. 1st Course had 3 choices: Caesar salad, Tomato bisque soup and arancini - we chose the arancini and tomato bisque soup 2nd Course had 4 choices: Mojo Pork Belly, Beef Short Rib, Pan Seared Shrimp & Fideo Championes - we chose the Mojo Pork Belly and Beef Short Rib 3rd Course only had 2 options: Maya's Churros and Key Lime Pie so we tried one of each Food and Beverage: definitely good. I didn't really care for the churros but the rest we liked. Service: they can do better. This is a very busy place but we've noticed that they have just a few servers. Had a chance to check out this new venue in the former Red Rabbit location. Ordered some cocktails, and I had a classic old fashioned which was on point and made by Greg. Our server was Lizzy and she was so attentive and her timing was excellent. She was able to make some suggestions to the menu and give us her personal take on the menu items. Food was served of course "Tapas' style which was convenient for sharing with others. Most of the items were wonderful and had a nice presentation. Sitting in the venue consisted of several booths surrounding the walls, and several bar tops and tables in the center of the room. Checked out The Lock & Key last night during their soft opening before seeing a concert at Harlow's next door. It is located on J Street where Red Rabbit used to be - I wasn't a big fan of RR so I was kind of excited to check out this new place! We were greeted immediately by two very friendly employees who seemed very eager to have the place up and running. They shared their recommendations and showed us to our seats. We ordered the Spanish Flatbread with Spicy Coppa, Arancini, Fideo Y Queso, Tequila-Lime Prawns, the Cubano and the Queso Fundido to share between the 4 of us. For drinks, we ordered the Paradise Margarita and the Don't Worry Key Happy. Food all came out fairly quickly and at one point, we thought they messed up on our order, but it turned out to be a table mix up. Not a big deal though as they are still working out their kinks! As far as the food, there were a couple of things we liked, we were a big fan of the Fideo Y Queso and the Cubano, but everything else was just okay. Again, they are just getting their footing so I do not hold anything against them at all. Overall, we had a great time and were left full and satisfied. There is also plenty of seating inside and a huge bar area with TVs. By the time we left last night, the place was packed! Their grand opening is tonight (11/10) so check them out! read more

If you haven't been? Run.! Amazing service and staff. Heard some good reviews from my co-workers at work so I had to come check it out myself. They have a Taco Tuesday night with trivia and I must say it was definitely a vibe. We went at night to grab some food and drinks and could only have drinks. Apparently something happened and they had to close down the kitchen early (maybe 6 or 7pm) so we only had drinks. We had to go someplace else for dinner that night so that was disappointing. The drinks were mediocre and expensive but I guess they are gearing up to be a nighttime club (they just had an opening recently) and they are putting all of their time and energy into promoting that instead of their food/drinks during dinner. Not sure we will be back as it was kind of disappointing BUT we didn't get to try any of their food so maybe we'll give them another chance another time. read more

Stopped by to meet a friend for their Happy Hour and had a very nice experience. The bartender was awesome and helped us out with any questions we had in regards to drinks and food. The vibes in the bar were not overwhelming and not too crowded as we stopped by on a Tuesday right after work. There is no parking lot so I had to find some street parking nearby but there is a ton of spaces around the bar. Overall, it was a great place to stop by for some delicious snacks and good drinks! read more

Love the new dj nights but please educate your staff on customer service! They act like they're doing us a favor when I'm spending MY MONEY. Attitudes, faces made, zero hospitality.
