This is a nicer and pricer establishment with a beautiful, rustic ambiance. The menu had several options but there were maybe 3 choices I'd personally like. Service was very on point and the food was delicious. I ended up with the pasta dish and was not disappointed. Quantity was plentiful, food was fresh, hot and very tasty. We tried to come for Fried Chicken night (Mondays), but couldn't get a table due to not having a reservation. They offered bar seating, which is acceptable for not having a reservation, but when they showed us it was a low top bar at the very end of the high top bar. We declined and told them we'd make a reservation soon, and we did. We arrived promptly for our reservation, and were seated right away in a half booth. We were very pleased with our seating. If you've been to Hawk's you know it's small and there's a lot of small tables in the center. Our waiter Christopher, acknowledged us right away, and brought water. We ordered wine, and were given time to browse the menu. When he returned with our wine, we were ready to order appetizers. We hesitate to order our main courses when we order appetizers at many restaurants because they bring items out too fast, back-to-back with the appetizers, and that is not how to enjoy a good meal. We ordered brussel sprouts, and mussels. The waiter asked about main courses, and we said we'd wait. It's almost like he read my mind, and very politely told me that he would course out our meal. Wow, great service! For our main courses, we ordered the grilled flat iron steak, and herb roasted chicken. Everything was coursed out, just the way we like it. Unfortunately, our meal fell short. Everything outside of the herb roasted chicken was over seasoned, over dressed, over sauced. The brussels weren't crisp and over seasoned, the steamed mussels had a lot going on, the broth was good but the chorizo was just too much, and the steak was drenched in salsa. It was surprising, and unexpected, because our last meal here was good (January of 2023). They must have a new chef. Lackluster meal aside, our server Christopher was fabulous. I'm not saying we will not return. But because Sacramento is abundant with good restaurants, it will probably be a long time before we do, and most likely it will be for Fried Chicken on a Monday. read more

Excellent deviled eggs as always for starters. Pork snitzel was amazing and the black cod (asian style) was good, though not my favorite way to have fish. The only disappointing item was the beet salad. A bit too salty and vinegar-y for our taste. Also, mock-tails are awesome as always (we've tried a few over these years). read more

Summer break, the kid was with grandma for the week = Date nights!!! We've been to the Hawks in Roseville and have been wanting to try this place out. As we come out of this pandemic, Sacramento Date Night style has ranged from sweats/workout gear, super causal, to business casual at this spot. I loved people watching! OMG the food!! I have missed eating out and being served amazing food I have not cooked for myself or the family. This was an amazing treat. We had: 1. The Liberty Duck Liver Mouse- Put a huge dollop of that on the crusty, buttery bread and you will not be disappointed. 2. The hubs had the Almond wood grilled New York Steak. We were barely talking as he devoured his meal - which is always a good sign. 3. Lobsert Fra Diavolo - If you have a pasta craving, this is the dish for you!!! Sooo good, super creamy, and filling. I was not able to finish the portion I received. I was excited to take it home for leftovers and eat it the next day. It was still so good! I loved how the waiter had wine recommendations that paired well with our meals. Made the experience so much more than a regular date night. I would definitely come back here! I asked our server about the two names for the same location. Hawks Provisions and Hawks Public House. She said that the Provisions was their coffee house or café as you would put it. During the pandemic they closed it. You could still order stuff from one of the food delivery services but the demand is not there and they have no plans on reopening it anytime soon. I took my brother here for their Monday night Chicken special. However when we got our drum sticks back there was blood in the meet and close to the bone. We told our waitress that some of the meat was not fully cooked. They send out meet back and brought our food back and the other pieces were burnt. However the red from the blood of the meat on the drum sticks were still there. . They said it was "they way they cook it" However, I'm been eating and cooking friend chicken all my life and blood isn't the center of the meat is not a sign of being "done". Hawks Provisions is a tiny, yet delicious, little shop, separate from Hawk's Public House. They offer coffee, tea, pastries, and breakfast sandwiches, as well as lunch items...salads, soups, and sandwiches. Their fried chicken sandwich ($9) is the winning ticket item to order! It comes with spicy slaw, dill pickles, and aioli, on an acme baguette. It is excellent! I also tried their soup of the day, which happened to be mushroom. It was extremely good! The flavor of the mushroom was prominent and simply delicious! The service was okay...I didn't feel a whole lot of warmth coming from the staff, but it wasn't awful as well. Hawks Provisions has indoor and outdoor seating, but it is extremely limited. It seems more like a to-go shop than an actual sit-down place. Hawks Provisions. The Hangover helper. This was my go to joint after a glorious night in midtown Sacramento. I walked over and to my dismay they were closed! But wait, their Yelp profile says they're open. Well that's because there are two Hawks Provisions. One that's more of a gastro pub and another that's a small breakfast and coffee shop. Tricky. Once I found out where to go, I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a cold brew. The lady behind the counter was very sweet and could tell I was in need of some grub to get me through the day, she took mercy on me offered me a cup of water. The cold brew was creeping into bitter flavor country, but beyond the bitter it was very strong. Just what I needed. The breakfast sandwich was greasy, cheesy, piled high with eggs and hit the spot! The biscuit was like a flaky carby pillow and was the perfect addition to this artery clogging breakfast Sammie. As I write this I'm craving one right now. It was that good! WOW. That fried chicken sandwich......... was seriously so good. I'm getting extra pickled onions next time!!!!!! They are SO good! Best fried chicken sandwich in Sac?? I think it's hard for this sandwich to have a contender!! We came near the end of their very short open hours (my only complaint!). They gave us free snickerdoodles as they were closing, which was so nice! I didn't expect anything from that snickerdoodle as I don't generally like them... but holy cow. It has caramel inside of it and it was SUPER delicious!!! If you can make it to the rare times that they're open, I highly recommend it! I want to come try the roast beef sandwich soon! read more

I still think of this as a more expensive alternative to your average casual breakfast and coffee shop, but when it comes to the quality of everything they serve there are few comparisons. Hawks knows what customers want, from their housemade breads and biscuits to their freshly made coffees. I stopped in again after a lengthy absence (blame COVID) to once again enjoy the breakfast sandwich they impressed me with once before. It was still amazing. The mixture of the house-made english muffin, cheese, fluffy eggs and thin sliced ham just melted in my mouth. I paired that with a piping hot and foamy latte. It was a great reward after a long morning walk in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, they did not have the patio set up around 10 am as I was planning to sit outside and enjoy. I'm hoping that the next time I come through that will be the case so I have even more reason (including ordering a second coffee and bringing a friend) to stick around. read more

UPDATE: I am now giving Hawks my full 5 stars! I've been been a patron of theirs since they opened and I am more & more impressed by their ability to add new items to their menu and their stellar service. Hawks recently added ice cream and it's welcoming on the hot summer afternoons. A current favorite of mine is the caramel latte in the morning and salad & chicken for lunch. All their food is always fresh and consistently good! I am equally happy with their genuinely friendly service and if there's something amiss, they will make it right without thinking twice. Previous Review: While walking down Alhambra for my lunchtime walk, I noticed a sign that the Provisions side of Hawks is now open. There's a severe drought of eateries in midtown and for those of us working hard throughout the week, we become lions during lunch and frantically search where our meal will come from. Like a Hawk, I swooped in to grab my meal. There are two sides of Hawks: Provisions and Public House. Provisions is the sidewalk to-go cafe with breakfast, sandwich, salad, and confections. I met Mike the co-owner and he was friendly, informative, and said the food is all made in-house. I had the Croque Monsieur Sandwich (think fancy Grilled Ham and Cheese sandwich but with: Gruyere Cheese and Bechamel). I'm glad I took a picture before I started eating it because I found myself stuffing my mouth with the delicious french sandwich. The sandwich was crunchy on the edges and soft throughout the rest. The ham was salty as expected as with most hams and I was initially afraid it was going to be too salty. As I ate the sandwich, I was pleased that the salt did not overpower the sandwich and provided me a satisfying meal. For my afternoon snack, I was equally impressed with their coffee cake. Generally only the top of the cake has the star ingredients of crumbs, cinnamon, and nuts. Hawk's coffee cake had peeks and valleys - the toppings were infused during baking and I found myself, again aggressively finishing my snack. The price is higher but well worth the quality. I can see myself eating here frequently and making it part of my weekly eateries. read more

Found this little gem! Greeted with a smile, great customer service! I ordered the provision veggie sandwich and a delicious, freshly made lemonade. The bread was the cherry on top, it was airy and crunchy, just perfect. It is cozy, I don't really recommend eating inside, it can get quite crowded. I would eat outside on cute little patio. When we went to pick up the order the owner could not find the order and was so impolite about it. This was my first time here and I came to try out their Dine Downtown menu. Everything was super delicious and presentation was on point. Our waiters were very friendly and went above and beyond my expectations. I was happy they were able to open for outdoor seating now that the stay-at-home order was lifted. Although it was outdoor dining, I will say that their set up outside was actually very nice and intimate. It was pretty chilly but I appreciate the fact that they had heaters near by. Let me say that I rarely post ratings for places with the exception are either being remarkably good or disappointedly bad. Unfortunately this is about the latter. Since 2 of the 3 of us dining are gluten sensitive my wife called to inquire about the gluten free options. This is important to know since the menu is heavy on pasta entrees. She was connected to the manager who informed my wife that they could accommodate most items on the menu as gluten free. Great! After arriving and ordering our server returned to inform us that they had NO: gluten free bread or rolls or buns or pasta. After a little discussion about our earlier phone call the server reiterated the choices. We decided on the cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce, the rigatoni with fusilli pasta, mushroom soup and the chicory and pear salad. The best to worst: Salad, Soup, Burger, Fusilli pasta. The pasta would have had a chance to be better than a 1 star if it hadn't been drowning in cured egg yolk sauce and then loaded on top with a 1/4" layer of Pecorino Romano cheese. I hope the management will be more forthcoming the next time someone calls to inquire about their GF choices. Or if they would like to really accommodate gluten free/sensitive customers they could pickup some GF hamburger buns and a rice pasta from a supplier. read more

Off Alhambra and Stockton Blvd. is this little bright counter-service spot that provides plenty for a quick pick-me-up with rustic bites. Hawks Provisions is a charming, tiny spot just a stones-throw from the larger gastropub connected by a lush, greenery-covered pergola. The inside is simply cozy thanks to the mix of warm lighting, large arched windows that let in plenty of natural light, and the fabulous pale pink walls that mesh well with the wood floor and ceiling. In the center in the counter where kindly servers inquire to what you are feeling. An elegant white with silver-trim La Marzocco espresso machine sits to the left and hugs the windowed corner; ready to brew local Chocolate Fish Coffee. Stacked scones and biscuits stare at you through clear dome lids. Chips, pork skins, and other snacks sit sealed atop a 3-tiered stand. Homemade cocktail and soda mixes await customers in a large fridge at the back. To the right of the counter are two black doors that act as a giant blackboard. Specials, menu mainstays, and some fun doodles cover the vast majority of it. Though some offerings change daily like the sorbet, there are always breakfast options, sandwiches and salads for lunch, take-away meal prep, and a good selection of "hawktails". So far, everything has been stellar despite the small wait. So far I've had the pleasure to enjoy the croque monsieur, the prosciutto and mozzerella sandwich, a vanilla-malt orange soda, and some lattes. The croque monsieur came in a basic brown box that hides the absolutely creamy, cheesy goodness within. It's almost impossible to eat quietly since it produces such an audible "crunch" with each bite. Baked gruyere heaven that sits on top of the thick toast stretches a good foot before snapping and slowly receding to its prior shape. Rich cheesiness cut by the sweetness of the ham within. And by recommendation, I was given a side of dijon which, to my surprise, gives it a nice punch on top of the rich notes already present. The prosciutto and mozz was a simple delight and welcome rest from heavier offerings. Crusty and cracked, yet wonderfully chewy, rosemary focaccia sprang to life with slices of succulent-and-salty prosciutto, bitter greens, and mounds of milky mozzarella. Now to wash it down, the craft sodas they offer really check off that refreshment box. The vanilla-malt orange soda tastes just like a creamsicle with and added slight nuttiness like that of a malt shake. Quite good and quite darn refreshing. And they know how to brew a good cup of coffee with the Chocolate Fish beans to be sure, but that won't be focused here. Hawks Provisions is a small delight of a place where it feels you can easily take a few minutes from the day, sit at a nice wooden table, watch the cars go by, and enjoy some rather tasty food. It may be a tad pricey once items add up, but hey it at least will be the same price as some chains, yet tastes much better. I easily give Provisions a fabulous 5. So think this is officially my favorite restaurant in Sacramento. It's got such a great warm vibe, great service and good mix between upscale but not to to fancy so you can dress up or dress down and still feel at home. Great date night spot! The food is amazing, cocktails so good and great wine and beer selection. We've had the rigatoni, Mary's chicken, Campanelle, Caesar salad and they did not disappoint. I was so very happy with the food! I got the chicken sandwich and a caramel latte. My friend got the turkey sandwich. It was so tasty! The bread tasted fresh and delicious the toppings were exceptionally good, i mean who mentions the sauce pickle and slaw on a sandwich? It was that memorable. The turkey sandwich was a generous portion and just as good. I almost ate them both out of pure gluttony. Loved the coffee. Planning my next trip. Order the buttermilk biscuit with jam!!! I've worked down the street for a while now and never knew that hawk's had a little cafe next door. While I was walking to Starbucks, I decided to pop in here instead. So glad I did! They have a nice menu for some quick bites- baked goods, salads, sandwiches, etc and of course coffee/espresso from chocolate fish. I ordered the latte and the buttermilk biscuit. The latte was very good, but oh boy the biscuit was out of this world! First of all, it's ginormous- big enough to split, but delicious enough to eat the whole thing by yourself! It was super flaky, but also kind of gooey. Hard to explain, so you must try it for yourself! I'll definitely be stopping in here from now on! read more

I think the food is great but I was very disappointed in our service. I went there for lunch and asked if they had a table for my family. The server told me they did and we're going to get a table ready. After I helped to get my family inside we waited for our table but were then told abruptly that somebody made a reservation online which trumped us. They said it would be a long wait for at that point. I'm extremely disappointed that they told me that they had a table for us and then two minutes later said that they didn't. I, among many others, was deeply saddened by the unexpected demise of Nido Café on R St. I longed for delicious, craft pastries and breakfast sandwiches in a simple cafe setting. Enter: hawks provisions. On first arrival you may be surprised by the intimate space, in a commercial style building that shares its lot with medical offices. But give the decor a minute to sink in, and that, along with the incredible aromas, will transport you to a cafe in Europe. My sandwich (the croque monsieur) was made to order. I wouldn't have it any other way, as that melty cheese graced my first bite. I have never experienced such a pristine presentation of ham and cheese. Additionally, service was kind and pleasant. Let me learn you something about great coffee! Hawks provisions makes the single greatest vanilla latte on the face of earth. Strong claim? Absolutely! They live up to the hype. I work across the street and this is my breakfast on the weekdays. The vanilla latte is made with fresh homemade vanilla extract. That's what makes this place so great, the make everything fresh daily and it's consistent. If you're in the mood for some sandwiches you can't go wrong here either. The crispy chicken sandwich is soooo goood! The chicken is nice and crispy, the slaw is subtle but present and the bread is nice and crunchy. My only gripe is that they are only open Monday-Friday 7-3. This means that when I work weekends I fiend for the coffee. I try going to Starbucks or peets but they don't hold a candle to Hawks. As a result weekends lifeless. The birds singing outside are just annoying and there is sad music playing in my uncaffeinated mind. Then Monday rolls around and the world is great again! read more
