We have frequented The Loop for years, but I have to say the quality, service and value is going down hill fast - may have to find another local favorite. Visited there on a Saturday afternoon, to start the service at the register was poor (the two girls clearly did not want to be there), and it went downhill from there. Evidently, no one else wanted to be there either. Come on guys......keep up with the times. Sat at a booth, filthy dirty, there was crap that was running down the walls that had never been cleaned up, we had to move to a table it was so unappetizing. Then comes the food - I order a simple cheeseburger and it was burnt to a crisp, so dry I couldn't even wash it down. 2nd, we always order the Blue Cheese Chips and they used to be fantastic, piled high and fresh with the blue cheese and sauce running down them, now they are a flat plate of day old chips that are so chewy you are likely to elbow the person next to you trying to take a bite of one. Furthermore, they have switched over to some sort of deli sliced chicken on their grilled chicken salads -- one word, disgusting. Trying to cut corners and costs and devaluing the quality of your product is not the way to keep loyal customer. I may go back to see if they are making improvements, otherwise there are far too many other places to go and have a great meal. read more

We live nearby and frequently take out pizza or grab a quick lunch in. Love the burger with blue cheese (what else would you eat in Tarheel country?) and the chili. For pizza, we're really fond of the sausage and goat cheese and the Tomato Bisque. It's fast, noisy and fun. read more

The Loop is an interesting place. Loud, crowded, cracked leather on the seats.... and yet you just want to keep coming back. In addition to pizza, it carries sweet and creamy milkshakes (personal recommendation: Mint Oreo or Butterfinger) and Boylan's soda. The atmosphere is delightfully casual (although I am biased towards casual stuff, not being the dressiest person myself), and it has a feeling of warmth that I can't quite place. The food is quite good, but the main draw (at least to me) is the selection of soda and milkshakes. The Loop is also great for sports people, as it has multiple TVs showing sports games. The Loop is a Chapel Hill institution. The food is good and the staff friendly. I hate to say I avoid this restaurant because it is SO NOISY. There is nowhere to escape the noise during meal times. Lots of conversation, clattering of dishes, and other noises. I wish the management would do something to reduce the noise, such as putting soft surfaces on the walls and/or ceiling. If they would do so, I and many others would be more frequent visitors. read more

Ordered a ceasar salad there and it came out with parm cheese on it that looked like it came out of one of those green cans with grated cheese. Most caesars i've ever eaten had shaved cheese on it, natural and tasted good. This was a pathetic excuse of a caesar salad. some of their other items are excellent though. read more

This place has solid food and lots of options...which makes it a good group place. It has nice vegetarian options too. The fries/onion rings are very very tasty. The grilled veggie sandwich is awesome. The burgers/chili dogs are also quite tasty. It can get a little noisy, but it's a good straightforward option for lunch/dinner. read more

The pizza and sandwiches here are very good, if you can get past the eternally long lines. It seems every time you come it is out the door, often with families corralling noisy kids forward while trying to decide what to eat. Once you get up to order, you might be kind of annoyed but the food is good. The shakes rock and 2 kids can easily split one. I really like the pizza and I've heard the sandwiches are pretty good. If you can deal with the noisy atmosphere, this isn't a bad place to eat if you aren't in a hurry. Great place for kids! read more

I eat here more than a few times a year and have been doing so for over 20 years. The burgers and salads are excellent, the pizzas are very good, but I've never tried most of the other dishes. The Chicago hot dogs have the wrong relish, the wrong peppers, the wrong bun, the wrong pickles, and no celery salt, but I eat them anyway. Oh, it's noisy too. read more

There are a number of chicken choices, solid vegetarian options, and a variety of specialty pizzas. You can't really go wrong if you're looking for a decent, generously portioned, all American meal. There is an abundance of flavor to be found in most anything you order but nothing too out there. You can go healthy and be very satisfied. Or you can easily indulge. You can get a good shake and/or salad. You order up front, seat yourself, and grab the food when your number is up. Wait time isn't long for food and there's ample seating. But because it can accommodate a lot of people it can and will get busy and loud. I recommend hitting it at an off hour if you want to have a peaceful meal. I've been eating here for 15 years, not because I just love it so much, but because it's solid and preferable to a big chain restaurant. The food is pretty average but I appreciate the diverse menu. There is something for everybody. And it all tastes pretty good. I've tried a number of dishes and have never been terribly disappointed. But again, not in love with the food. Prices are reasonable and about what you would expect around here. It's gonna run around $10 a person. General atmosphere is pleasant enough. There are cozy booths, ample number of tables, good amount of natural light from windows, as well as dark corners to slip into, and there are a couple of TV's. My wife and I were in town for a lacrosse tournament that our son was playing in and wanted a local place for lunch. After searching, our first three options were not available ( closed for renovation or non existent) so we ended up here. Wife had a salad and soup which she liked. I had the chicken salad wrap and black bean soup. If you love a lot of onion in your chicken salad then get this. The onion flavor and burn is still there 2 hours after eating ( yuck!). The soup was more broth than bean. I didn't expect a bowl of black beans but some would have been nice. I ended up putting some of the chicken chunks into the soup just to have something tangible in it. Won't be going back. read more

It was not loud or crowded and the service was very friendly. We all enjoyed our meals and the kids had shakes that could each serve 2. Not been back in a long time. There were the same problems. And tired of it. The employees who clean up the tables. Would walk in front of us. And block the walkway. And tried to step on the foot. And would not clean many tables. And we had problems with getting our food. The employees would make us wait after everyone else they made the food. And we had to ask the manager to ask them to make it. And they made the pizza wrong. We ordered cheese. And got sausage and pepperoni on it. And would not make another one. WE got a refund of the meal. And an apology and gift certificate from the corporate office. And the next time we were in the restaurant. They gave us a free meal. The manager did. There were the same problems. The female cashiers ran away from us. Talk back rude. Rush to get rid of us, yell at us and interrupt, try to stick the sharp fingernails into the skin of our hands, eat food and repeat the same questions while wait on us, walk away from us while wait on us, and stop wait on us and look elsewhere. And then start to wait on us, and not volunteer to give us the change due back to us, and talk to employees while ring us up. There were many dirty tables during the visits. And the employees that clean the place up. Not volunteer to do much. The decor is plain. And the menu offers a lot of food. At moderate prices. read more

Been coming here for years because of usually tasty food and it's kid-friendly. However, it has been in steady decline though for awhile. The last few times I've been, the food hasn't been as good and the wait times have grown longer. Last night was the last straw. Waited for about 25 minutes for 2 salads and a chicken tender basket. When I noticed tables around us eating that came inn after us, I went to the counter to ask about our order. Got a short reply, they were waiting on chicken to cook. I stood and waited another 5 minutes before they brought out my order. They obviously lost our order. When I told the folks the order for 8 people they just served in front of me came in 10 minutes after us, all I got was a blank stare and then they turned their back to me. No apology. I get the feeling that they don't think they need to give a crap about fast service or their customers, because somehow they stay busy, But I won't go back there ever again.
