The dinner menu of Thai food is very good. But, I was disappointed with the lunch menu. Luckily, they had some good Thai specials on the specials board. The lack of parking at lunch time is a minus. We have ordered lunch from there multiple times and usually they are on point for pick up. Today we ordered 5 meals, luke warm fries for all. And ordered a turkey, cheese and bacon only sandwich did not get that. Instead got club style with only turkey and bacon, took it back and was told they didn't have any bacon left, yes got refunded but the hostess/waitress was rude: they didn't even offer to just give me cheese to add to my sandwich or replace fries. read more

I had the Tom ka Gai and the Panang Curry (with chicken) as take out. The Tom ka Gai was absolutely delicious. The right spices and flavor was good. It could have been improved upon only if there were a few more mushrooms and chicken in it. The Panang was also excellent and the spice level on that was just right without being too much. Typically there are more bell peppers in other Panang curries I have had, and I am a vegetable fanatic, so I would have appreciated more vegetables in there, but that did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the dish. read more

This is decent Thai food. It's not extraordinary, but it's not bad. The set-up is quite strange though. Their thai dishes are coupled on a menu with American staples like burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. Super odd and definitely a red flag that the Thai food isn't the most authentic. I ordered my typical spicy basil eggplant chicken. Not spicy at all, the chicken was a little rubbery, and my dish was cold. However, the flavors were nice and the vegetables were cooked well. Wow...I cannot believe how good this place is. The food is absolutely fantastic! And the staff and atmosphere are simply amazing. It's a quiet, comfortable spot and everyone there makes you feel like family.....both the staff and the guests! It's places like this I wish I was one whose living is made by working with my hands, because I'd probably be working in a neighborhood like Lunch Box's, and I'd be so lucky to have a place like this for me to lunch when I wasn't packing my lunch in my Playmate. The Lunch Box is located smack dab in the middle of a bunch of industrial shops, and houses both a bar (complete with happy hour for after work) and an eating area. What's surprising about this place is that it's actually a Thai restaurant, that also offers burgers, sandwiches and other diner-type grub. The Thai offerings are a bit scant during the day but is apparently full-fledged at night. The lunch menu is pretty good and varied, and they have a nice selection of daily specials to choose from, which are of the Thai (and Chinese) persuasion. I originally wanted soup, but decided to forgo that craving and went for the spicy ground pork special with bell peppers and onions, served over rice. For $5.25, it was an amazing deal, as I received a plate heaping with the stuff, and it was very good. The half sandwich, cup of soup combo goes for the same price (Monday-Thursday), and the soup cup serving is pretty generous. The sandwich, however, was something more to be desired, particularly for the expectation of a pastrami sandwich. It looked more like a quarter of a sandwich, and the meat between the bread looked little and dry. It didn't taste bad, but maybe I'm just used to heaping piles of pastrami a la The Hat. Service is very nice, albeit a bit slow. I didn't have my mind made up when she came to take our order, and we asked for another minute, which became ten. Water refills were few and far between as well. It's somewhat inconvenient, but goes to show how busy and popular this place is as it inundates its only server as she tries to juggle serving everyone in this quirky decorated place. A quick side note, I've only eaten the Thai food here. I've never had any of their lunch food, but my dad, who has been coming here for years, says it is his favorite place to grab lunch. This is one of the few decent places to get Thai food in Ventura County. My favorite dish to order at any Thai restaurant is the Pad See Ewe, and this place has consistently served theirs with fresh vegetables and never skimps on the meat. It isn't too oily either. Also, I like their soup. My favorite one is the Wonton soup (not sure of the exact name). What I love most about their soup is the portions. The smaller size gives you a generous amount, my mother and I share it because I wouldn't have room for the rest of my dinner if I had it all to myself. My parents usually order Shrimp Fried Rice, Kung Pao Chicken/Shrimp, or the steak dinner. All of which are really good. The best part about this place is their Fried Bananas with Coconut Ice Cream! It is delicious!! The fried banana is actually like an egg roll, but filled with sweet banana. It is crunchy and is paired nicely with the ice cream. If you're not into fried bananas, the mango and sweet rice is worth trying too. I recommend saving some room for dessert! The service is fantastic. Annette is always our server whenever I have gone, and she is very friendly! The prices are great as well. This place also has a bar w/ tvs sectioned off from the dining area. Although very busy, we were seated right away. Extensive menu that covered a lot of interesting possibilities.. Ordered the Eggplant with Tofu, absolutely to die for. As for the Pineapple Shrimp Curry, fuggettaboutit......out of this world ! Our first visit here and left sad that we hadn't discovered this 33 years ago when it first opened. Full disclosure: my Aunt is a bartender here, so my review is intrinsically biased, but FWIW, it's a neat little spot for a drink after work. $2 happy hour, everyday? Check. Cool crowd of regulars around the bar? Definitely. Food that's pretty darn good, too? Yep. Super nice owners who take the time to get to know their employees and customers? Sure thing! Go here and get the soup. It blew my socks off! Both of our Thai dishes were fantastic and we couldn't wait to go back. Just a warning, if you want Thai food for lunch during the week, you can't get it here. They only serve a regular sandwich/salad/burger menu for lunch. Lunch was great, but I had been craving their Thai. They said they switch to a Thai menu after 2PM which I think is a shame! First of all I ordered Spicy Ground Beef and received Spicy Ground Pork (I had to get back to work so I didn't say anything when he handed it to me). I get back to my desk and find a pile of rice COVERED in a ridiculous amount of onions and huge chunks of bell pepper with some bland ground pork sprinkled in on top. The dish was not spicy or seasoned well at all and the huge amount of rice it came with made it even more bland. Even though it sucked, I might check it out one more time (maybe at dinner) or go with a curry dish for lunch. I'm a sucker for Thai and was really hoping this place would be decent since it's so close to me. Ok, This place is surprisingly good. I don't like their lunch menu because its burgers, fries, some soup and some american type of fast food. Which if you were to get in-n-out, it would be a lot better. Anyway, dinner menu is a complete opposite. They serve Thai food. Delicious Thai food! Their spicy tom-kha or Tom yum are so good. Its better than Sawasdee or Thai Peru or Tipps Thai in Ventura. Holy Smokes! Another little Gem. As a 3rd generation Venturan, I've been to about every little hole in the wall you can imagine. I've heard about this place for years and have wanted to check it out something fierce. What intrigued me was the generic name and the industrial park setting coupled with the reputation for great Thai food. Went there with my Yelpin' Bud, Mikey, and I'm not sure who dug it more. He voluntarily relinquished his self administered "Best Ribs in the County" title with his first taste of the Garlic Pepper Ribs. The flavors and heat levels were robust and spot on delicious. The place is EXACTLY as I'd imagined. A quaint, "well lived in" look, no brass, glass or plastic ferns. Loved the hand painted mini Kayak light fixtures.The little bar just screams "local flavor." The menu is extensive and Well represented with Curries, Soups, Rices, Noodles, Entrées and Appys. Tons of great specials, too. I've GOTTA return for the Santa Barbara caught Swordfish Curry, and tons of other temptables. I intend to get on a 1st name basis with the charming owner just asap! Delicious Thai iced Tea, too! Since moving to Ventura for work, I have had to leave my beloved Thai Kitchen in Simi all ..... alone. It's been a missions trying to find a great Thai place and this place absolutely disappointed. This place is half biker bar, 1/4 old folks home, and 1/4 Thai restaurant. The musty scent in the air while I was waiting was almost enough to just get up and go. I ordered the yellow curry chicken which was more of the highlight. The curry was a bit too runny for my liking, but still flavorful. This is a hidden Ventura treasure. I can't remember how we first found out about it, but we won't eat Thai anywhere else in town (although I think they serve sandwiches during the day too). The food is great and they love regulars and keep up with you. We were getting take out so often that once we got disconnected on our cells part way through the order and they knew who we were just from our order and called us back! I highly recommend anything tofu, even if you are not a huge tofu fan. They do their tofu even better than the meat (in my opinion). I would go for the Par Ram (order in only) and the cashew nut delight done with tofu. The soups are also excellent. They will adjust their cooking to whatever level of spice you want too, which is nice when you have some folks who want it spicy and some that don't. read more

So the Lunchbox is my go to place for Thai food in Ventura. When I walked in for the first time I had my doubts because there was a bar full of people watching TV and the dining room was empty. Once the appetizers came I was relieved though. Everything they make is just delicious and full of flavor. The staff is great, and super friendly.
