Came for an event. It's best to come early if you're coming for a show. It's a small venue / theatre in a high traffic neighborhood. Parking is an issue. Popcorn and cookies were delicious but not as good as my wine haha. I had a great experience and would come back for an event or show at this location. Found street parking but it was a walk and I had company. Be mindful if you're walking alone.

enjoyed seeing the Cambridge Footlights here in September! A good theater. The posted capacity was 96 seats, but we only saw about 60 seats. No assigned seating. When they open the doors, rush in to grab the only table at the back of the room! With fewer than 100 seats, performers need not be union members. The courtyard was quiet and comfortable. Glass panes excluded wind and traffic noise. Some good drinks

I was here for the first time for a show. Cute little corner bar/café. I saw the most luscious looking croissants behind the glass so ofc I had to order one...or two. I got the plain croissant and spinach croissant. PLEASE I hope they never change their supplier. Literally the most flakiest, butteriest croissants this side of the Atlantic. The bathrooms were clean. It's a chill vibe. Would come again to work and chill to see how it is during the day. Parking is street so be prepared to Uber/bike/scoot, or you can drive around ten hours to find a spot.

They weee ok . I had a coffee and a pastry and was there for a while so I got the chicken sandwich, it wasn't great. It was small and lacked flavor. But, the guy working was amazing! Super friendly and nice. Not sure it was enough to get me back

Water

Excellent water. You can ask the employees for water and they offer bottled water or this pictured tap water with ice. It is a good-sized plastic cup with the perfect amount of coldness. I recommend this water experience.

This review is for the venue not the cafe because we didn't eat. There is free neighborhood street parking on Lyric. There is metered parking on Hyperion. We got a great spot just a few houses away. We went to see Scott Thompson from Kids In The Hall do his Buddy Cole Monologues show. Bought super cheap tickets online. Easy check in outside the cafe. We sat in the back. It's a very small place so all seats were fabulous! Scott was HILARIOUS! Go see him if you can. Great show. Thanks Lyric Hyperion Cafe!

Small comedy theater that's open most of the day for coffee and such. Good place to do some writing or catch a show.

Do I need tickets prior for the shows or just buy at the door?

Most shows you can purchase at the door but you'll want to check ahead maybe the day before or day of just in case!

The house band, The Dynasties, are the best live band in the LA comedy scene -- they play hot bitchin jazz, add musical cues for the comics, and will generally make your week better. This is a place that comedians want to hang out. Craig Robinson might show up for a surprise musical set and take requests from the audience while you all sing together. Sarah Silverman might sit on the floor with flash cards of her new jokes and run them by you. Reggie Watts might drop by and crank out some skat poetry and vocalization whimsy. You might hear a live theramin performance, or a rendition of Dolly Parton's Jolene on a musical saw. Not a bad seat in the house, staff are welcoming and friendly. Fun merch, and popcorn combos with the perfect blend of sweet and salty toppings to satisfy your munchies. You'll be laughing from the moment the sound booth tells you to silence your cell phone to the moment you walk back into the world to your car. Proprietors Vanessa Ragland and Jamie Flam the hosts of their flagship Saturday night special, Dynasty Tonight, will delight you with the impressive combo of hilarity and empathy, making every night feel like a hangout with your funniest pals. The venue is intimate in a way that makes you feel like a part of a community, and reminds you that perhaps there is still some hope for humanity. You'll definitely want to be that cool person to "discover" this place and take the rest of your friend group.

Dynasty Typewriter hosts a variety of live show types from comedy stand up to podcast tapings to…read moresmall concerts. The building is old school opened in 1926 as a Vaudeville house so it's always been entertaining. It's had different iterations over the years, most recently the Hayworth Theatre. Then in 2018 it officially became Dynasty Typerwriter Now the theater is in Westlake, right next to MacArthur Park where many of Los Angeles' unhomed population lives. So yes you can search and find street parking, but if you have a nicer car it may be better to just not risk it and park in the nearby parking garage - 611 S Carondelet Street. Rideshare is ideal though. It's a small theater (200 seats) so if you are hoping for a close up seat to see better or get in on some crowd work, you should arrive when doors open. I am quite the opposite and enjoy a good view, but sitting far outside of the crowd-work arena! Give me a good seat on the side back a few rows and I'm happy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE crowdwork, just not aimed at me. I've seen Tig Notaro and Marc Maron here - obviously both great shows and I enjoyed them! When you sit in the seat, prepare for a little trip. They glide! haha It's kind of weird but kind of fun that they slide a bit but I see it shocking everyone when they first sit down so prepare yourself. They are the kind of seats that start hurting after sitting for an hour so my fellow ADHD peoples, prepare to do a lot of shifting in your seat. They have good canned beer options, including a couple of NA which is nice. Also full concession stand for snacks, including their special popcorn. Staff is friendly and I always enjoy this venue! I will absolutely be back.
