I've been to Mad taco multiple times as I live locally, and every single time I call the person on the other end of the phone is hilarious and efficient. The Mad Taco never misses. I love everything on their menu, and it's some of the best food you can get in Middlebury which - in my opinion - is lacking consistently delicious dinner options. Sure, the prices are higher than your average taco spot, but so are the portions. I always have leftovers for lunch the next day. Ignore the low star reviews and order from here. It can be stressful to be hungry vegans on the road, not sure where your next meal is coming from. We called in an order and spoke to a super friendly and helpful human. So rare. The seitan burrito - yum! Perfectly charred seitan with flavorful rice and salsa. Black bean burrito was delicious and again - flavor! Also, add pickled onions, perfect touch. Inside, there were smiles and clean bathrooms - one featured an artistic memorial to a Covid-period spider named Melvin Longlegs. I loved that. After competition at the senior games, we read the reviews and decided to give the Mad Taco a try. The portions were very generous, but we didn't know that most dishes have a "Kick" to them in hot sauce. If you don't mind that, then the food is tasty. The other thing that was very disappointing was if you eat inside, be warned that the music is loud, and heavy metal. Also there are no plates or silverware and instead plastic utensils. read more

Until coming here, I have not had tacos I recognize as tacos since I left LA. Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but honestly. Good variety of fillings, and good balance of different flavors. I loved the ambiance. At least that day, it was a bunch or regulars having a before or after work meal and making fun of each others music tastes. I had 2 shrimp tacos and the smoked chicken wings (I started eating chicken again) the tacos were large but came with no sides and at $16 didn't fill me up (hence the wings) the tacos were tasty though. Homemade hot sauces are good but they needed a super hot. The pineapple pain was labeled a 9 heat level and it was hot but not insane. The wings were super tasty although pricey as well. The beef is both spicy and tasteless....not to mention what Mexican restaurant doesn't have a shredded beef option? The chicken..DRY..like choking dry. The pork..FATTY. It's good but it's expensive! Yam tacos cost $12 for two tacos although they are of a good size. The chicken quesadilla has a nice smoked flavor but drips grease. It wasn't ready so the dude at the register told me to take a seat- none of the tables were available so I sat at the bar. I live in the food haven of Providence, RI and have had some truly awesome tacos all over the U.S. I had 2 beef tacos in expectations of trying a couple and ordering more, but two is PLENTY for a full meal.
