I was on a total coffee high and feeling sooo ready to break my fast for lunch when my bestie suggested we walk over to The Malt Shop...best idea everrrr! Walking into this spot felt like stepping straight into the 1960's and I was absolutely loving the vibes. The red stools, cool counter seating, vintage portraits, classic cars, and Marilyn Monroe décor it was giving vintage diner dreams in the cutest way possible! The whole place was adorable and super clean! The hostess was so kind and sweet, and the cook even greeted us and got our food out super fast which made the experience even better. Now let's talk about the FOOD because it was delicious! We ordered a chicken sandwich with grilled onions and grilled jalapeños and it seriously hit the spot! The chicken was crunchy, flavorful, and so satisfying. The fries were perfect; and I was a happy girl! read more

They have other bigger burgers like western with BBQ sauce, pineapple and teriyaki, and a pastrami burger!! Fries are crinkle cut and their onion rings are fire!!! Way too overpriced for mid tasting food. Waited 30minutes for 2 burger combos and chkn strips. Spent $60. Ordered a burger with no bbq sauce specifically and what did they do? They soaked that burger in barbecue sauce even after making it clear NO SAUCE. they need to be on more their game for spending that much money & maybe another cook so the service isnt so slow. unfortunately, we will never be back read more

I was passing through the town and was craving burgers. I found this spot and thought it was just be another place with normal tasing food. I was completely surprised with how juicy and flavorful the burgers were. Even their normal hamburgers are better than most other places. It's a really classic and tasty burger place with great prices. Definitely a place to try! read more

This business has friendly staff, great food, and a wide selection with many options. They're conveniently located at Fairfax and Auburn in East Bakersfield. They use krinkle cut fries which are cooked just right and seasoned well. They also have great milk shakes and malts. The place is kind of small not very clean or very busy. We ordered paid sat down and waited. Other people came in and went thru the system. The food came out as it was done not all at the same time. At least it was hot. You had to go to the counter to get your order. The burgers were good not overcooked the rings were nothing to rave about but there was no reason not to go back. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there. read more

While I haven't had the food here yet, the milkshakes are to absolutely die for!! The quality of the ice cream is in your shake. The staff here are very sweet and friendly. But back to the shakes, they're not cheaply made they are high quality and very flavorful!! My recommendation is the chocolate shake! read more

I was on my way to Spencer's to get a patty when I remembered this place is on my way .so I decided to stop. Won't go back . Everyone knows a patty melt is on rye bread. That's the main reason people order them . ... it should of just been called a sourdough jack. Except Jack in the box is better . And jack in the box has a bigger patty. It was just a patty & cheese on grilled sourdough. No flavor. Fries were good & hit. Won't waste my money there again read more

This is a gem malt shop on the east side. Have always loved the Marilyn & James decor items and classic food. Nothing they make has ever disappointed, but their pastrami, burgers and fries are my favorites. While you wait for your food being freshly made you can play the quarter machines. Dry, overcooked burgers, fries and zucchini. Called in our order 9/12/22, around 7:30 and got it home and was very disappointed. Not the Malt Shop food we're used to. I took my grandkids here after we left CALM. The inside had that old burger and ice cream look, but the food didn't match it. My grandkids had burgers and one had a grill cheese. I tried the fries and all though we didn't like them. They didn't taste good at all, even if they were to add more seasoning. The service was great! read more

I've been coming to the mall shop since I was a freshman in high school back in 2017. They have amazing thick cut fries and the most tastiest ranch on the east side. Their burgers are really delicious and juicy. The chicken sandwiches are also really good I recommend the chicken tender basket or if you're on healthier route definitely get the crispy chicken avocado salad. A secret hole in the wall joint that serves up angood ole burger. Grest burgers done right. The service is great. People are nice and food taste great. It is small so no large parties. Just a good ole "grab a burger and run shop" i have visited this place at least 8 times. Can't believe ive never reviewed it. I recommend this place if you are nearby. My granddaughter loves diners and I found this one on Labor Day while we were in Bakersfield. We walked in and there were 2 or 3 people who appeared to be picking up to go orders. We sat down at the counter, no one else seemed to be eating there. After a few minutes one of the gals asked if we were picking up. I said no we were eating in. She almost seemed confused by my answer.. LOL maybe it's not often people stay to eat? Anyway we ordered a chicken salad, BLT, fries, and. Chocolate shake. I asked for a cup of water and they literally gave me a dixie type cup full to the brim. I ended up buying a bottle of water instead. Food was pretty good. The crinkle fries were our favorite. My granddaughter liked her BLT, i thought it was a little salty. My salad was as basic as they get... chicken, lettuce, and some tomato. I think for the price they could add a few more items. My son stopped by while we were eating and ordered food to take home since we were wrapping up when he showed up. I would say it was underwhelming but good. I would have added a star if the gals working were more friendly. They were basic too and could probably bring in more customers if they didn't appear to just be there to fill their shift. There's potential there if service was more friendly. Our lunch (with my bottle of water added) was about $26. read more

Oh my gash guys!!! This place is soo freaking good in all levels. I had the Texas burger combo. The fries are perfect. My husband had the Mex, that's very good as well! I tried the chicken nuggets from the children menu, two thumbs up. They do not have Coke in their machine , but later did I learn that they sale the bottle kind. You must order a banana split or malt, it's a MUST! So perfectly creamy. Their employees are super super friendly, keep it up guys! read more

I thought the last time must have been a mistake, but it was even worse. It's swimming in a strong fruity vinegar. Almost inedible, and I should have asked them to rinse it off. But I'm a masochist, and I don't like to complain. Service was nice. Ambiance is nice diner with lots of old folks.

They are notorious for having the newest trendy sweet treats. Their Instagram is very active and frequently posting new reasons to keep coming back. On this visit, I wanted to try their new hot chocolate with a toasted marshmallow rim, and it did not disappoint. It was a very rich and semi-sweet hot chocolate with a hint of cinnamon, just like my momma makes it. My sister had the Dubai-style hot chocolate, which had a pistachio topping; she had no complaints. We also decided to try the Dubai style chocolate covered strawberries; the strawberries were a bit tart, but the toppings were all delicious. Just a heads up, they are an outdoor-only seating establishment, so come prepared. They do, however, have good lighting and patio heaters to help. It tends to stay pretty busy, especially on weekend nights, so wait times can be a little long, but they are worth the wait.
