I had a pizza at happy hour, and to be totally honest, it was the best pizza I've had in a long time. What stood out to me was the ingredients and how they were extremely fresh. The veggies though, mostly tasted of the same red pepper and were wayyyyy over salted, especially the broccolini and cauliflower. Eat here all the time. Solid food. Some days better than others but you can never go wrong eating here. Happy hour is great also- very affordable pizza and drink deals. The pizzas are phenomenal. The crab claw appetizer is one of my favorites. Got the salmon once also very good. Duck is good but last time was a tad dry. This day the fish special was good, not great. Enjoyed a late-ish brunch at the Manship after visiting the nearby museums. All-in-all made for a very pleasant and "culture filled" day. The food was great. I had the waffle and the husband had the shrimp and grits. Both were very good. Their cocktails were fun, if a bit pricey. The ambiance of the place was pretty trendy, hip, and brassy. Service was decent. The most memorable part of the experience was the loud drunk guy in the booth behind us. Not on the restaurant at all - but this guy was both obnoxious and hilarious. Manager Dave greeted us with a condescending and apathetic smirk. We had called ahead and were assured seating but instead received what amounts to a culinary "good luck with that!" We were informed that it was in fact first come first serve despite what Portia said and our only option was the bar or outside - unsatisfactory. The oysters were fingernail sized (SEE PIC), but not priced to the same proportion. No vegetables came with our shrimp (Royal Reds) despite being advertised on the menu (SEE PIC). Manager Dave's response? None. I will not come here again and will not recommend Manship. Simply. Very. Bad. Eric S. I appreciate your inappropriate comment. I travel through Jackson Mississippi from time to time to and from a customer in North Louisiana. I have really enjoyed my stops into Jackson. I frequently go to my usual list of places that always get it right. (See other reviews to see where I've been.) However, on this trip, I decided to try something new and boy am I glad I did. The location is interesting since its placed smack dab in the middle of a hospital system (Baptist, I believe...) and there are people walking in every direction. Outside seating is available if you like to sweat like a hooker in church (July isn't the month to do this.). The space inside is large and accommodating with very high end details that make the place look very upscale while still allowing for casual attire. I happened to be on a call while having lunch here so I asked to be placed in the quietest spot in the house. Next to the kitchen, way in the back. Not ideal but it wasn't too loud. My server was quick to approach and after asking her about two or three items I found she recommended any of the pizzas. I'm sure the other items are great but I am really glad I took her advice. Before I went down "Wood Fired Way" I ordered a wedge salad that was fantastic. I've had middle of the road wedge salads back home in Nawlins so this was quite refreshing. Big chunks of blue cheese, just the right amount of ranch, tomato's were unbelievable crisp and full of flavor... I would go back for the salad alone. The Farmers Market pizza I ordered was incredibly good. Probably top three wood fired pizzas I've ever had and I eat a lot of pizza. Loaded with mushrooms, bacon and a fried egg with just the right amount of cheese. The server provided three small cups of parmesan, sea salt (Soooo good on top) and red flakes. Great touch that you don't get very often when ordering pizza. I ate half of it and then realized because I checked in, I would get a free dessert. #Bonus #WinningToday The bread pudding topped with ice cream was so f'n good I didn't care that my pants no longer felt comfortable. If I get a chance to return, I will probably get it again (If they have it that day.). If you are passing through Jackson, you have to try this place. So many other menu items to get into that I will probably go here at least once more in the next two months with an appetite. read more

This is an update to my previous review so I have copied much of it back into here. The update removes a star because of the service. They really need to do better here. Look, the Manship is an excellent restaurant. They have an excellent menu that is easy to find something you want. The food is amazing, definitely some of the best in town. The service, however, is lacking. Actually, The Manship probably has the worst service in town. The servers simply don't care about you, and they do their best to make it clear that is the case. If you're slightly in their way they'll groan like an inconvenienced child as they walk by. If you're taking more than three seconds to decide on something to eat they will almost universally stare at you like a freak show. If you need to move a table they will complain act like it is a gargantuan task that requires a PhD that they don't have. One waiter in particular will not be deterred from putting his hand on your back no matter how many times you ask him not to. The bartenders are great - they will help you find the cocktail you want and they have a wide selection of liquor to mix up whatever you like. The back out house is great. Food comes out fairly quickly and everyone is friendly. There was even a guy bringing food to the table (not a main waiter) who had a broken leg that didn't slow him down. The waitstaff, however, could not care less about their customers. This is still an important restaurant to visit, just don't expect to be treated well. MAC & CHEESE LIST - This Mac & Cheese is different. It is not your standard comfort food style, so if you are looking for Velveeta (no judgement zone - sometimes we are!) this is not your place. Today it was Pancetta Mac & Cheese (see pic) which was awesome, but it has been a different formulation in the past. Definitely good, but lighter on the cheese than most places. Worth getting for sure though. MUST HAVE DISHES IN JACKSON - The Best Damn G&T. Like the name says, it is the best G&T you'll have, at least until you figure out how to make it yourself. They make it with top notch gin and Jack Rudy tonic. I wouldn't advise the new BDG&T version 2.0, the tonic is gross. read more

They were moist and soooo tasty. To caveat the wings you also have to try the grilled cauliflower, which was the best. And our waiter Frederico was absolutely charming and very attentive. Folks, my time in Jackson is coming to an end with my eyes set on landsharks up north, so I'm making it a point to hit all of my favorite food spots in Jackson in my remaining weeks here. I kicked off my farewell tour last night at The Manship for my birthday dinner with my family. The first time I went to The Manship was also my first post-divorce date. He showed up smelling like a dive bar and told me I tipped too much because he was annoyed that the server didn't just get him a second beer without asking. He also said he didn't like vegetables and turned his nose up at my enjoyment of my zucchini casserole. Dating a grown man who doesn't like vegetables? Couldn't be me. Thankfully that date didn't stain my impression of the place. The interior of The Manship is like the Disneyland of restaurants - it's easy to forget there's a world outside of those walls. Beautifully lit, no distracting TVs, just a personal and elegant dining experience. My personal favorite touch has to be the chalkboard wall with all the locavore information I need. Where is the coffee from? Bean Fruit. Tomatoes? Salad Days. -Atmosphere: 5/5. I have a severe allergy to alcohol, so I asked our server, Philip, if they had a non-alcoholic cocktail menu. "We don't," he said, "but I'll go see what the bartender can get together for you." I had to protest as an industry veteran, but a good server will do everything they can to make a guest happy, and he won our standoff. He brought back a bright, spritzy, fruity drink for me. I don't believe I've ever had a server with the menu knowledge he had, and the patience to answer a million questions and receive lots of video game information from my 13-year-old. He was also sweet enough to bring me an extra dessert with a big chocolate "Happy Birthday" written on the plate. -Service: 5/5 -My family and I started with the crab beignets and thankfully they left me two. They were NOT what I expected. Light and crispy, not at all heavy fried food. The creole cole slaw made me double take - just spicy enough and the crunch was amazing. -I went for the nightly feature, a gigantic pork chop, and subbed out the side of peppers for the Gouda grits. My son had the BBQ chicken pizza. Mom had the blackened catfish with fries, Dad had the pork belly, and my best friend had the NOLA shrimp and grits. -My family and I are dramatic eaters. We'll dance and wave our arms around if we're really enjoying our meals, not to mention the stealing off each other's plates, and the whole table looked like the Olympic water aerobic team for the whole meal. We loved every bite and left very little to be boxed up. -Lord, dessert. Philip recited everything to us and we looked around briefly and said we'd take all of it. We ordered every single dessert. Panna cotta, triple chocolate mousse cake, a peach cheesecake (this is probably wrong, I'm sorry), and I had the pecan cobbler. I wanted to stand up and dance a little when I had the first bite of the pecan cobbler but my 13-year-old finished his triple chocolate mousse cake before I could get my photos and I knew my food was in DANGER. -Food: 5/5 -Overall: 4.5/5, only because I'm starting to really want non-alcoholic cocktail menus wherever I go. My time spent at Fine & Dandy really spoiled me! The Manship is something I'll miss, and something Jackson can be really proud to have. read more

Another passenger recommendation and I must say once again, they have not disappointed. My bartenders were Sam and Anna-Marie who were THE absolute best, I couldn't even tell their was a shift change. I only got the Manship Margarita(s) & the BBQ chicken pizza which was SO recommended over me getting the duck legs + Mac. I am so glad I went with it, it is truly so good and I've NEVER had a ranch like this.(charred onion ranch) which comes drizzled on the pizza. Service + Food + Pricing= an overall perfect experience. What a pleasant surprise! We actually were recommended this place by another restaurant that we went too, which was closed. I'm glad they were because this place was great. We got there and they were on their midday menu. We had the pimento cheese and toast for an appetizer. Delicious. Some in our party had their pizza which was really good as was the rotisserie chicken. It was very moist.... I had the smoked chicken wings which were excellent, very good flavor! Thanks to checking in on yelp, we got a feee desert. The lemon pie with strawberries was very good. Our service was excellent. Anytime you're in Mississippi make sure that you take the moment to stop by the Manship. If you want pizza there's no pizza like the Manship. Mom-and-pop pizza shops like Manship are doing an awesome job giving me major chains a run for the money. The pizza that we had was so yummy. The attention to detail that was put into the pizza was amazing. Everything from the artist in meets to the cheeses all the way down to the spices that will use to electrify the pizza was all grade a material. The restaurant is kind of hard to fine if you are first timer as your GPS will probably end up taking you to the side of the building in on that side there's not anything over there but that hospital insurance but the actual restaurant go sit in the front of the building and it is in the corner facing the hospital on the lower level. The food is top notch and the service is even better. I wish I could remember our servers name she was so good at what she did. She was a little Black lady with a gold tooth and she was so friendly. She made great suggestions on the food and what we should eat and how much of it we should eat. She knew that the proportions of the food was pretty big and she was very considerate of us all. This is a pretty good restaurant for Sunday brunch, my only meal there. It's VERY loud, but the service is good. The bloody Mary's are pretty ordinary, but the food is good. Shrimp and grits is over-spiced, which hides the flavors of the shrimp and the grits. I had breakfast tacos which were pretty good. Overall I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. Manship is known for their wood-fired Pizzas, but they have many other menu items that are truly unique and delicious. They have daily specials, which I would recommend. I have not had a bad meal here... The atmosphere is high class, but casual attire is welcome. The bar area is extremely busy after work, full of business professionals grabbing a bite and a glass of wine or cocktail. The bartenders and servers are professionals. The wine/beer/whiskey menu is a book. If you are looking for that hard to find bourbon, they probably have it. I was enjoying a Booker's Rye last time I was there. (2016 Bourbon of the year) At $65/glass, it's priced about right and well worth it. they have hundreds of whiskey's to choose from. Not everything is expensive. You can come in and have a $10-$15 pizza and a couple of beers during happy hour and walk out for $30 for two people. You can also go to the other end of the spectrum and order an expensive bottle of wine and an exceptional meal. Either way, this is a place you need to try if you are passing through town, or if you live here and haven't tried it yet. read more

They have the main selections such as meats, fish, pasta, pizza etc. The sides range from vegetables to potatoes to polenta. There are many unique and delicious options. For an appetizer we had the tuna dip and lamb leg. The dip was good but the lamb was delicious and came served on a bed of hummus. For my main course I had the rabbit ravioli. It was a small portion but delicious. For my side I had the parmesean polenta which was very good. As for cocktails the menu does offer signature drinks as well as an large beer selection.
