Coming back from a family beach trip we started looking for somewhere to eat. This restaurant caught our eye. With a lot of positive reviews, amazing looking food and a menu that appealed to 8 people we decided to give it a go. We made it in time for brunch on Saturday and all 9 entrees between 8 people were completely consumed. The pizza was amazing. Perfectly cooked and top quality toppings. The shrimp and grits was cooked to perfection, rich and savory. The steak and eggs paired well. The real winner that morning was the strawberry and banana french toast. First night in town I decided we should order to go since we'd driven 8 hours. This place was about a 5 minute drive from our Airbnb and the food was so good!! I had the pork chop with mac and cheese and my husband had the Turkey leg with Brussels. We also order the crawfish beignets but they were pretty much a boudin ball, still very good, just wasn't what I was expecting. And the chocolate chip milk cake was so good too!! I ate here several months back. Thought I had already made this review but apparently didn't. This especially cool brunch spot near downtown Jackson is so good. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because we were forgotten for a bit after sitting down. But they were very busy and we were given a free appetizer which pretty much satisfied me. Okay so I love this place. They have outdoor eating that you notice before you walk into the door of the restaurant. They have a bar located towards the front of the restaurant. Our waiters name was Megan I think. She was GREAT. Good recommendations and pretty funny. She recommended the BEST red blend (of wine) . As an appetizer we had the spring rolls paired with the peanut sauce (AMAZING). I had the chicken and barbecue pizza. It was GREAT even the next day after I warmed it up. The Manship is one of my favorite places to have a good time. First, the food is locally-sourced! It feels like you're getting an authentic Southern experience here. Also, the alcohol selection is out-of-this world good, and so are the happy hour specials. My classmates and I love to pop in for drinks after class. Finally, there are sweet little events going on all the time, like wine tasting classes, and there are private dining areas as well as catering services. My husband and I came here for dinner on a weeknight and we were extremely upset about the quality of the food and service. The redfish was so salty it was inedible, crunchy, blackened and charred on the outside. My shrimp and grits was drowned in a bbq sauce and was so spicy it was also inedible. Not only that but when we let our waitress know, she became defensive and said "that's because of the seasoning with the sea salt on the fish, and the shrimp and grits is just creole bbq because you know, it's Jackson" (please note on the attached menu there is no mention of creole or barbecue). My husband tried to make it known that we literally could not eat it yet she reared in defense. I am 30 weeks pregnant and trying to avoid spice. If I had seen creole bbq on the menu I would've picked something else. Additionally, I saw the waitress complaining ABOUT US, about our complaint, to what I assume was the manager, to which the manager said something cocky in return (body language) and made the waitress laugh. No manager ever came to check on us afterwards to see if there was anything they could do. We were $150 out on this meal, and it's really painful to have such an awful experience when you work your asses off, are about to have a baby, have little one on one time, and never go out to eat. We picked the place because in the past, it's one of the best steaks we've ever had, and their wedge salad is my favorite of anywhere. They need some quality control. read more

Service is always good with attentive wait staff. Food is great except for Beef...I've ordered a steak before and the quality of the beef was poor. So just a few days ago I was there with business associates and thought I would try the beef one more time thinking the first time was a fluke. I ordered their filet special, a 7 ounce cut of meat. And the rest of the group got the grouper. I was sorely, disappointed in that the beef was undercooked, and had several strips of gristle. I think I could've found a better piece of meat at Kroger. My business associates food was superb as well as the appetizers. So go and enjoy, but don't order the beef! read more

This is a really nice spot in Jackson - and while the vibe is casual, it does look fancier than most places. Our server was extremely nice, made some great recommendations and checked in on us from time to time. This is one of the cases where great customer service really made the overall experience so much better. Blue crab sandwich - this was a whole soft shell crab, inside a sandwich. I love crab - but I've never had a whole soft shell crab. This was interesting! It's a pretty big sandwich, and I managed to do some good damage on it, but couldn't finish. I think this was one of the specials - so it might not always be on the menu. It came with a side of parmasean fries - eh. I should of picked another side. These were very thin cut fries (I prefer thick cut fries). I know for next time to try one of the other sides that looked great. Ended the meal with some blackberry cobler - They have a free dessert as the Check In offer on Yelp! Got this one and it was delicious! Possibly my favorite part of the meal. The Manship is one of my favorite restaurants in Jackson! I usually indulge in my food before taking a picture, but I was about to take a few pics of my dinner and drink. What you see pictured is: grilled salmon and roasted brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were slightly over cooked, but the intended flavor was not completely lost. Yelp reviews, locals and my Uber driver all recommended Manship and I finally had a chance to check it out and it did not disappoint! The parking situation is a little weird, but I found someplace in the lot across the way, it was marked for those with mobility issues, but the security guard gave me the thumbs up to park. I strolled in at lunch-ish time (11am) and sat at the bar and was immediately greeted and asked what I would like to drink. Well, beer of course...And the selection, while all bottled, is extensive. I opted for the Timber Beast considering I had just come from the forestry museum and YUMMMY!! Next decision would be food, which was difficult - they were serving brunch and lunch, which way to go? I was feeling lunchy. A dude sat next to me and see me and ordered "birthday French toast", I wished him a HB and asked what else was good, since he seemed to be in the know...and he recommended several items and then went into detail on the pizza, so much detail I had to ask - Do you work here? He did! I went with the tres carne something (basically a meat pizza). It don't take too long to arrive and OMG, it was delicious - I could only eat about a third and that was forcing the last piece. Which is okay, because I had it for dinner and then again for lunch the next day and it was still delicious cold!! I'll be going back before I leave Jackson, I hear they have an awesome happy hour! I don't know what kind of problems the Manship is having in the kitchen, but judging by what we were served tonight, it is not good. We ordered a Margherita pizza and two Steak Frites, for takeout, for $80. First, what they called a Margherita pizza is what everyone else refers to as a cheese pizza, but with two leathery dry basil leaves dumped on top. As cheese pizza goes it was pretty good, but it definitely was not a Margherita. The two steaks were almost inedible because there was so much gristle throughout both of them. As a consequence most of the steaks wound up on the the side of the plate, although it should be said that the remaining 20% tasted great. Very disappointing performance from what used to be a really decent restaurant located right in our neighborhood. read more

I've heard a lot about the manship over the years. And I finally got to try it after living very close by for the last 5 years. I ordered the steak and fries (recommended by our waiter) and I was excited about it. Fries tasted like they were thawed out yesterday and thrown into the microwave, then reheated right before being served to me. And you'd think the steak would be above average given its price point. But I have to say... I've cooked better steak that I've gotten from the sale section at Kroger. This "8oz New York strip" was one of the toughest steaks I've ever eaten. And was clearly over compensating for the horrible steak with a subpar sauce that was dumped on top of the meat. When my wife and I got the check and saw that for the two of us the price was above seventy dollars, we decided not to go here again. Either lower the prices, or up the quality manship. Sooo..... this place is in a hospital. I've worked in a hospital before. I've eaten plenty of hospital food. But it says it's a wood-fired kitchen, so in we went. I was under-dressed. But heck with it, let's do this thing, right? We got a pizza and a side of parmesan-truffle fries. First off, the crust was perfect. Chewy, but thin enough to fold. The toppings were excellent, and the fries were just about perfect as well. Too many places just douse their "truffle fries" with so much truffle oil that all you can taste is mushroom. But this was enough to taste, but not so heavy that they overwhelmed the dish. I would have liked more parmesan cheese, but that's just me. The pizza had a great blend of spices, and it re-heated well the next day too. We had tiramisu for dessert, and that was quite nice. They used a hazelnut liquor instead of coffee, and that flavor came through in the whipped cream. Now, the place isn't the cheapest, but you get excellent food. So that's a win. read more
