Here's the cute and dried version of this place. The interior and exterior has seen better days, long, long ago. I mean long ago. The place really needs an overhaul and honestly I think the bathroom is in violation of major health codes. The decor is a mix mash of a variety of things, there's no rhyme or reason to it but I think it's actually ok. There's a few tv's that you can watch which I was thankful for as the Seahawks game was on. We were told to sit wherever we wanted and did just that. We were brought coffee and experienced refills during the entire meal. The waiter came to take our order and was prompt about that also. We didn't wait very long for our order. I had eggs benedict and hash browns, my husband had pancakes and hash browns. I asked for the hash browns to be extra crispy and they were just that. The eggs benedict sauce was good but needed a bit more flavor, the eggs were cooked perfectly. The portion was great. My husband, who loves pancakes said they were really good and the portion was also big. I ended taking leftovers because my portion was so big. We experience a long wait to getting a box and our check for the meal. I don't know why but it was a big irritating. The people working were very friendly. So here's the thing, this place is rundown, bigtime, it's been in place for a long time and I believe switched owners. It appears that no one has updated this place and I think that people might be more apt to come in if repairs and improvements were made. Would I go out of my way to come back, no, but if I was in the area, I would stop in and eat again. You just have to know what to experience when you come in. A usual breakfast place for us if we're in the area. Lots of seating but parking can sometimes be finicky if they're busy. The waiters are super nice. The food is just good. Not anything CRAZY good but also not terrible either. I'd say solid 3.5-4 /5. Classic diner breakfast/lunch place. I usually get the Biscuits and Gravy or Eggs Benedict. What a fun spot! My husband was born and raised here in renton and this is one of those original gems of when the city was slower. Bringing the kids here to enjoy the older vibes that we all grew up with and to share some great food is such a treat. Tommy's is the closest breakfast spot to our house so we probably hit it up once a month or so. The food is good and they are always super accommodating with special requests. Food is usually quick to come out. The building and decor are tired and dated. It definitely could use a facelift. The staff is always very nice and attentive. We were asked 5 times today if we wanted more coffee. If you are looking for a decent traditional American Breakfast, it's worth a try. This place is great! Way better than the current rating. Theres a lot of open space and you can seat yourself upon entering. They were flexible with our order and the food came out in decent time (15-20 minutes). I expected powdered gravy given the location but it was nothing like! Bits of sausage loaded with flavor over flakey soft biscuits. The meatlovers scramble did not hesitate on the protein either. The ambiance and service could be improved on but if youre here for quick traditional American breakfast, then this place does not disappoint. read more

We just want to go local place for breakfast. It is traditional breakfast menu. My sister in law got Mini breakfast two eggs, hash brown, and toast. She likes the coffee. I ordered French toast combo with two eggs and bacon. I asked for bacon and sausage but got just bacon. It was not big deal, I wanted to try the sausage for the review. The eggs were cooked as ordered over easy. The bacon could be more crispy but I did not ask. The French toasts were okay, it was not bad or good, meaning it was not completely dry. Having new owners since 1991, Tommy's is that family owned local diner that you always drive by but never really go into. That's UNTIL you walk inside, and wanna walk in EVERYDAY. The building is old and probably needs a remodel. You notice the foundation and floor are sinking in several places. But the regular customers who pack the parking lot every morning know that. And it's almost part of the charm. You pretty much seat yourself on the weekdays, and the staff works to bring you family customer service. And man, do they work hard. And boy, are you taken care of! I go mostly for breakfast, and that's good enough for me, although they do have a tasty lunch menu. Not simply a greasy spoon, the menu is broad to include steel cut oatmeal, fresh sliced fruit, and veggies in your omelets. If you would like a heartier, meatier flare, you can order pork chops, corned beef hash, and even some house made chicken fried steak with house made gravy. There's traditional bacon and eggs if you wish. However, you might as well push the boundaries of what a good American breakfast diner is supposed to be like. I ordered the chicken fried steak, and my friend ordered the veggie scrambled eggs. It's definitely PLENTY of food. It also has plenty of diner-grade black coffee (regular or decaf) at the ready. Juice upon request. Be advised, do not come here with a dollar menu attitude or a chain restaurant value mindset. It's a small business that charges an appropriate amount for the homestyle quality you expect. Needed a good breakfast to last me the day so I headed over here. Immediately had a table for myself and the waitress was the only one working and it didn't even feel like it. My coffee never got lower than about three sips before being topped off. I went with a taco omelette and it was very tasty. Nothing unexpected but it was exactly what I was hoping for. Hash browns were crispy and good and toast was the right amount of cooked and buttered for me. It's a typical diner so I loved it. Close your eyes and picture a stereotypical cozy diner and poof you are here. Stop by and get you day started right. I happened to be in Renton and I found this place through Yelp! I went to Tommy's Cafe for breakfast on a weekend. The restaurant was easy to find and it has a nice parking lot with plenty of spaces. Inside they have a mix of tables and booths and they let us pick where we wanted to sit. Someone brought us menus and waters pretty quickly. I ordered "The Mess" which is scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, green pepper, onion, hash browns, and cheddar cheese with toast. This was exactly what I was in the mood for and I love dishes with fun names. I thought the food tasted good and it was a good portion size. We noticed that all of the workers seemed to be women (including the cook!), so that is always awesome to see. Our server was quick and efficient, which I appreciate. Don't let the neighborhood, this gem is in, fool you; this is an awesome classic diner--the kind you'd find traveling cross country! Most of my Yelp reviews are negative, because a lot of the time quality and service sucks in the hospitality industry (see other reviews). The service at Tommy's was great in of itself--phenomenal when considering the waitress (Glan) was solo for the whole floor. I actually did not like the waffle--it wasn't crispy enough. Without me asking, she noticed and I ordered a pancake a la carte. I was happy to pay for it, but she comped it. Best pancake I've found at a diner in King County. I'll address what someone else wrote about the ambiance (they gave it a "B"). I do get it, it's not like Ascend, or Daniels--it's an American diner; however, it has the highest KC food safety rating, and I came here bc I wanted a diner. I used to really like this place for the past two times the breakfast home fries are half cooked. Today I ordered the two egg breakfast which was supposed to come with home fries, toast, and meat, but I'm a vegetarian and had them the meat. They charged me the same amount! This restaurant is the kind of place you see in the movies. It's under the radar divey and visited heavily by locals. I stopped by on Veteran's Day and it was packed. The food is just ok. Nothing amazing but it gets the job done. Also a heads up that they don't have breakfast drinks like mimosas and the coffee was terrible. I did love how they decorate their tables. I reluctantly ate here almost 20 years ago. I was dating someone that lived in Renton and she loved this place. It looked dirty, cheap and unloved. If I recall, we came for lunch or dinner, so two decades later, I decided to give this place another chance based on the breakfast reviews. For the most part, people advised that the place doesn't serve the same large portions, that the service isn't good with a few even talking about how dirty the place is. Well, once Clayton steps up in your spot, the gloves are off and it's time to get real. We got here early, 7am, based on reports that it can be hard to get a table once the rush starts. If there were 40 tables, only 4 were being used. Prices were not cheap, for the location, décor and portion, this place was a failure. Bacon and eggs were $15.50, the bacon was the thinnest slice I've ever seen, the 4 slices were about the equivalent of a single thick slice. The hashbrowns weren't brown, they weren't hot and they weren't fresh. That told me that the kitchen was lazy and based on the fact that our food came in about 3 minutes, it was clear the only thing cooked fresh were the eggs. As soon as the food came, the ants came out. We killed several before I decided to take a quick video for the health department. This place is unloved. I can't say I saw firth of filth, but ants tell me that they don't clean enough. Ants love crumbs and in a place like this, there are tons, so if you are not cleaning throughout the day and deep cleaning at close this is what you get. The carpets are stained, dirty and nothing looks like it's ever been improved, so with a breakfast that is at least $3 more than it should be, my question is where is the money going? Food quality was low, service was super slow and clearly no one is cleaning. If you think this place looks bad from the outside, step inside and realize that most cities wouldn't allow a dump like this to stay in business. I got the meat lover's omelette, it was very delicious!! I was kind of weary before coming here because of the mixed reviews but I'm glad I did. The food was very tasty, we came on a Monday morning so it wasn't very busy. The prices seemed very reasonable for the portions you got as well. I can understand why some others who have visited here left bad reviews, that's because of the language barrier the waitress had. While we were there we even heard a customer who was a regular say his order was wrong, even though he always orders the same thing, and they always mess up his order he keeps coming back haha!! This place used to have the BEST banana waffles. So fluffy, soft, and fragrant. We used to go regularly just for that. Then sometime shortly after covid, we went again and the food was like... a total 180 from what we were used to. I think the only explanation is that there's been a change in ownership. The waffles were dry and nowhere near what it used to be- and there were maybe only 3 slices of banana on top. The bacon and sausages we ordered were barely cooked and we suspected the ketchup was watered down. It was super gross. Sad because it used to be so good but we would never go back there read more

not bad. im a breakfast girlie tho so i have high expectations. i got the french toast combo and my cousin got the biscuits and gravy. i wouldve preferred the toast be a little crispier, and they gave a lot of butter. my cousins biscuits and gravy were well seasoned, which is something you dont see often i feel. staff was so attentive and welcoming. it felt like i was stepping into a diner from the 80s. its not completely standing out in my mind, but i can see why its still in business after so long. 7/10 read more

I had answered ads before when I was younger just to be told the position was filled. I knew it was because the hiring person didn't see me as the type of person they wanted. It doesn't feel good.
