The food here is pedestrian pub fare, absolutely nothing to impress. Why 4 stars then? Because this just might be the best neighbourhood pub we have int this area. Recently the Stormcrow moved in and showed promise,... but it is quite busy and noisy. From the door this place looks fancier than it is and from the inside, especially the back, it really is a col looking place and less "shiny" than I thought. This IS the place for a drink, to hang out, and to maybe have a bit of food if you are really hungry. Prices aren't bad for a Granville St. location. I'd been tipped off to this place when I moved to this this area 4 years ago,.. it took me this long to go but I bet I'll be back for a second time much sooner.

    Wicked perogies and tuna bites

I don't know what it is, but this little place rocks South Granville. I've walked by here 100's of times, and finally for whatever reason I gave it a shot and now I'm hooked. Don't forget to check out the drink specials outside. They have hella good drink deals. $3 beers, $3.25 gin & tonics, $4 Jameson, the list goes on. Best prices I've seen for a non-dingy place and they don't serve crap drinks either. When you walk in the walls of mirrors creates quite the illusion of being a big place. Whether it was the alcohol or not, it kind of feels like a yacht or a wicked cool basement of a house. 1st visit I went with server's suggestion of tempura tuna bits and classic perogies. Tuna was good, but the perogies were all star. Topped with caramelized onions and served with sour cream and feta cheese, this hit the spot. I also tried their bourbon bbq ribs last night. Fall off the bone goodness. Staff are stellar. The bartender also waited the tables, yet maintained high level of service. Open until 2am everyday except Sunday. What else do you need from a neighbourhood joint?? Rock on Marquis, rock on.

    Sharptail glasses at the marquis!
    Gabriel S.

Rye and coke that tastes like home and the sign outside doesn't lie rye and cokes are at Manitoba prices. It even comes in the same glass as the sharptail (home of the one box hunt!) They even have draft cocktails, like the crown float (somersby and guinness). I'll have to get that next time. Borscht is even on the menu! Despite having what I look for in a bar (cheap rye and lots of it) is also has half back booths and old wooden tables. I'll be back and i'm bringing reinforcements!

Recently I went for brunch with my family for Father's Day and we had a great time. We all ordered different brunches. My brother and dad got the French omelettes, my mom the quiche Lorraine, my sister the carbonara and myself the mushroom egg tart. We all really enjoyed our dishes. Mine was light, fluffy, flakey and bright with a perfectly cooked soft poached egg. It's a clean feeling breakfast. My sister's carbonara was a proper carbonara (made with egg yolks) it was really savoury and a touch too salty for me but I enjoyed a taste of it. We also ordered the basque cheesecake. I've noticed more and more basque cheesecakes on menus but very rarely do restos do it right. I was looking for a gooy-er lighter but full cheese flavoured basque and unfortunately this just doesn't hit the mark - it's a bit dense and lacks that rich cheese flavour. It was a miss but everything else was great including the service. We had many attentive waitresses from the bar staff to the floor staff and had some great convos with them. This is a staple for the neighborhood and I wish we had more places like this!

They have a pretty much perfect interior design and furnishing: very chill and simple but also very charming decor. Menu is very straightforward and simple and has pretty good pricing especially for a Bellingham spot. Service was great and not overstimulating like many places. Food was actually extremely well thought out and executed. Platings come in 2 sizes with simple choices of fillings/sauces, and the portion sizes were excellent- 1lb for me (a bigger guy) and 1/2 for the lady and we both were comfortably full after eating! Dessert deserves its own section in this review because holy mole: it was truly impeccable. I've had quite a few desserts in my time but these really "took the cake". Honey cake was beautiful and soft, it had a gentle sweetness and almost had a spiced undertone to it. Very light and very well executed, it sat perfectly with the dumplings. But the CRÈME BRÛLÉE :') I truly could weep over how beautiful this dish was, it was like I found the love of my life all over again. Gently centered on a plate half dusted with powdered sugar, topped with a small fresh strawberry and sprig of mint. Truly mind boggling how good it was, an incredible mix of sweet crème and gentle taste of black tea. I never expected this to be such a great combination but it was incredibly well executed. Whomever the mastermind was behind the creation of the menu and shop: I tip my hat to you, for this was a truly wonderful experience. Everything was obviously very thoughtfully planned out and perfected, I have mad respect for their work. 2 plates of dumplings, 2 drinks and 2 desserts was under 80$. An all time favorite date night spot at a much more reasonable price than other places near Barkley/Bellingham. 11/10 If I could give more than 5 stars I would

Not even staff, however we did not wait long till we were helped. We ordered a bunch of side dishes and dumplings. We were left to our own reading as the service wasn't too helpful with explanations but the menu wasn't too complicated so that helped. We ordered a small and a large but they came out the same size so unsure if they misheard us or not but we ended up eating everything anyway so it worked out in our favor. Overall the food was comfort level and satisfying but not really enough. The beats were a good texture but the pickled vegis couldve used more zing and crunch. I think this place feeds better as a togo experience than a dine in but still a treat!
