Worst possible customer service ever at checkout. Rude, didn't listen, even after saying what I needed three times. Unbelievable.

On Sunday 1/19/2020 we arrived at 12:40 pm waited outside for a table, which we got around 1:10pm for a party of 4. We sat and waited for about 20 minutes before we asked a passing server for drinks, after another 20 mins we had to flag someone down and mention we were still waiting for someone to take our order. We all watched while that waitress walks to another waitress and ask her why she hadn't tended to us. Then we watched our assigned server (which refused to help us) walk to the back and ask another server to take care of us. So the new server takes our order and comes back about 15 minutes later and then tells us that our order was lost. It is now about 2pm. We finally had enough and told yet another passing waitress that we were leaving and to please have our waitress bring us the bill for our drinks. She instead walked over to the owner (right thing to do) and informed him. To our surprise he didn't react or make his way to our table. At that point we all instantly got up and made our way out. We our frequent customer and had built up this country kitchen to our two friends and were so surprised/disappointed by the treatment we received. Our friends thought we were being discriminated against because we are Spanish. I thought it was because our friends are part of the LGBA community. My wife had her own theories. Needless to say we all felt uncomfortable and the Mason Jar lost two regular customers today. Never have we been treated so poorly. read more

I've been going to the Mason Jar since I was a teenager. The food is always great! The hamburgers and sloppy Joe are favorites of mine. My bride and I just finished dinner at the Mason Jar. It was really good for both of us. She had the Country Fried Chicken covered in gravy and I had the Country Fried Steak. Both of us had mashed potatoes and gravy along with green beans and cole slaw. Both dinners came with a roll. The taste and quantity was great. We will definitely be going back next week. read more

Sort of an institution in this part of Florida. I have been here a number of times over past 25 years. The food quality is good and the quantity is more than sufficient for me. Staff are efficient and extremely pleasant. I would have rated this establishment higher if they showed more concern for their clients. While a number of customers came in wearing masks, they were greeted, seated and served by staff with no masks. I do not blame the staff but I am disappointed that the owners of this nice restaurant are choosing not to take some simple measures to show respect for those who patronize their business. Was traveling through the area and it was dinner time. I stopped in because of positive ratings on Yelp. Plenty of choices, but I stuck with the Southern cuisine. I ordered the fried boneless chicken breast, black eyed peas, collard greens and pickled beets. On a scale of 1 to 10, my meal was an eight, only because my piece of chicken stayed in the fryer a couple of minutes longer than it should've. The cornbread had to much added sugar for me, but that's a personal preference. I don't enjoy sweet cornbread. This was more of a corn muffin in my opinion. I ordered sweet tea and it was STRONG and SWEET. I enjoy sweet tea, but this stuff is guaranteed to cause cavities! Next time, I'll order half sweet and half unsweet. First, this is the only restaurant in the area, probably why it survives. I got what I think was called the cowboy burger. The burger was good, the fries that accompanied my burger were out of the freezer bag crinkle cut sogginess. It's so simple to cut a potato in a press and server fresh fries, but you wont find it here. My wife had the country fried steak, her favorite country food item, for which she knows her quality. She left most of the steak and did not want to bring it home. She said it all failed in the gravy, which she says she can tell was out of a can. It seems this place serves food, but definitely not "home cooking" which I expected from the name. read more

Planned a trip from California to visit family and our first trip out for a meal in Florida was for the all you can eat fried chicken special at the Mason Jar. I must admit fried chicken on the bone is not my favorite food so i was a little hesitant to order, but the array of sides available, along with the ability to pick which pieces i wanted and my sister insisting i wouldnt regret it convinced me to give it a go. Fried green tomatoes with perfectly cripsy cornmeal exteriors accented with parmesan cheese provided the contrast to the soft tomato-y goodness inside and a giant glass of what has to be the most perfectly sweetend tea i have ever ordered, started us on our way to what turned out to be a great meal. Our meals arrived just as last bite of fried tomato delight disappeared into my 9 year old nephew. I had ordered black eyed peas, okra and coĺlard greens for my sides to go along with the fried chicken. the black eyed peas were nicely seasoned with ham chunks and seeing as how we were one of the last tables seated for the day, not over cooked at all. The collards were fantastic with more of the ham chunks, and just an ever so slight touch of vinegar. The okra was well done with a crispy exterior, cooked thru but still with form and no slime in sight, which is always a bonus. I truthfully didnt expect much from the chicken, as i stated before, bone in fried chicken isnt my thing. I cautiously picked up a wing piece from the white meat platter i ordered and pulled the skin back. It crumbled in my hand, perfectly cooked, no flabbiness at all! I popped it into my mouth, and the flavor of simple goodness danced across my taste buds, chicken-y, flour-y, with a hint of salt... memories my grandmothers chicken. In denial, i laid down the wi g and tore a chunk off the breast and more of the same... cooked thru skin, moist meat, mild season just awesome deliciousness on a plate. I couldnt have asked for a better fried chicken meal. It was epic. read more

I stumbled upon the Mason Jar by complete accident. I was taking the back roads to Palm Coast from Mount Dora and my other half declared that he was hungry, so we agreed to stop at the next non-chain restaurant we found. A few minutes later we were pulling into the Mason Jar's parking lot. It was a Sunday early afternoon, so the church crowd was starting to trickle in, luckily, we were able to get seated quickly. As you can probably gather from the name, its a place that serves typical country fare. Our server was friendly enough, and the tea was delicious, as it should be in this type of establishment. I ordered the country fried steak with brown gravy, mac and cheese and fried okra. The okra was nice and crispy and the mac and cheese was awesome! I also had some great northern beans, which were perfectly seasoned, which you almost never find in restaurants. My only complaint comes from the gravy that came with the country fried steak. I'm used to thicker gravy than this, it was more like a jus instead of regular gravy and I didn't care for it. All in all I would absolutely visit this place again, I would just try something different. read more

We stumbled upon The Mason Jar on our way to the Ocala National Forest. We both had the fried chicken special (white meat). This is a quaint, fun restaurant, and we were impressed that the staff never seemed to stop! The fried chicken was good, not great. It was certainly edible and tasty. We shared our sides, green beans, beets, mac&cheese, stewed tomatoes, and French fries. I enjoyed the beans, my wife did not. She loved the beets and Mac & Cheese - so much so, I did not get a taste. The fries were bland and soft... The corn muffin was made from a box mix, the biscuit was much better! For dessert we had the Apple Crisp, with ice cream. It was like a lovely warm apple pie..... The wait staff never seemed to stop! Even when not waiting on tables they were sweeping the floors; cleaning tables; and so much more! Very impressive! They probably have some items on their menu that are good but I didn't seem to order any. The hot tea was a cheap, no name brand tea bag and they put extra water in a creamer container. I accidently poured more hot water in my already weak tea. Then I made the mistake of opening the metal creamer lid to see that the luke warm water was mixed with some creamer that had probsbly been left in there from earlier in the day. The roast beef was barely warm and the gravy just sat there like a clump of brown jello. The meat was boring and average at best. Publix deli roast beef might have had more flavor. I moved on to the mashed potatoes. They were good but again barely warm and a clump of gravy just sitting on top. The green beans were over cooked but probably one of the best things out of my whole meal. Overall I really didn't think there was anything fabulous about this place but I really like the name. read more

My husband and I came here for the fried chicken. My husband knows great fried chicken! The fried chicken was average. The chicken was a bit dry and over done in places. My husband had stewed tomatoes which he did not like. He also had mac & cheese, and mash potatoes which were good.I had baked chicken, coleslaw, applesauce, and yams which were good. We also had a peanut butter chocolate pie which was very good. We also had a very good server. read more
