We loved our stay at The Mauian. Check-in was incredibly easy, and Junior was fantastic -- he welcomed us warmly, helped with our bags, and gave us a quick rundown of everything nearby. A lot of reviews mention parking issues, but in our experience it was no problem at all. We always found a spot, and the concern is overblown. The real magic here is the location. Our room was literally just steps from the ocean. Napili Bay is calm, clear, and perfect for beginners -- my wife even went snorkeling for the first time, and absolutely loved it. I chose this hotel because it's near Merriman's, the location of a destination wedding I was attending. I stayed in 215. It's upstairs.. I had to drag my roller bag up, no elevator. The room is decent, no TV, a balcony overlooking the garden, pool towels and kimono style robes.. the WiFi wasn't very reliable which is terrible when you have no TV and your watching something on your device with WiFi. Because I was there for a wedding, I wish they had a full length mirror. The bath towels weren't in the best condition. I keep better towels at home. When the room was cleaned, they only replaced towels and took out the trash. That's fine but I expected more, i.e., make the bed. The grounds are great and literally steps from a beach. They have two shuffleboard courts, a pool with BBQ grills, they offer complimentary coffee, tea, and/or juice for a set amount of time in the mornings where there's also a vending machine of snacks near the check-in window. It's located in Napili Bay. It's quiet for the most part.. I could hear my neighbors congregating one night. Parking is first come first serve and free. I didn't drive as much as I would have liked because I was afraid of not having a spot when I returned-- it was busy when I stayed. I didn't want to have to find street parking. read more

I went on a girls trip to this hotel and had a wonderful and memorable experience! The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and well appointed and the location to the beach was exceptional. The only suggestion I have is that the patio chair legs be soundproofed (rubber bumpers on the bottom legs) so as not to disturb the hotel guests on the bottom floor. I booked this boutique hotel for our last night in Maui with our two boys, 8 and 11. This is probably one of the LEAST kid friendly places to stay on the island. We came to "check in" early knowing full well the room would not be ready. Instead of politely offering to text when our room was ready the front desk personnel chose to offer us an "upgrade" for an extra $150 if we wanted a room quickly. I politely declined. We came back when the room was ready and the front desk personnel looked at my two children and asked "are they with you? You only put two on the reservation?" I was very confused. I have traveled my entire life and have never been charged "per person" for a room. They proceeded to charge $20 extra PER child. When asked to speak to a manager... Justice, the manager, proceeded to speak to me in an extremely unprofessional tone. I simply said I have never been charged per person for a hotel room. Her response was "I'm sorry you can't read the website properly." I responded that we just left the Westin after four nights with eight people and we weren't charged per head. Her response "this isn't the Westin." The security guard, Don, I believe, was the nicest person on the property. The hotel is nice. Small pool. No spa. Seconds from the beach. Justice, as a manager in the hospitality business is a disgrace to the industry to be honest. After going back to the website after the horrible Front desk experience I decided to check out the difference in price. I put two adults for one night... $350. I added two children.... Over $700. Maui trip 8/17-8/23/2021! *Vaccinated. Masked. Stayed away from large crowds as much as possible. Respected the land.* Boyfriend and I stayed at The Mauian for two nights too short. It is so beautiful here! It gives off such an at-home, comfortable vibe. The best part? The beach is walking distance- literally right outside your door! We absolutely loved the "beach sounds" at night aka the sound of the waves, the ocean hitting the shores. Definitely an *Alexa, play beach sounds* moment. The room was spacious for a one bed. No TV but who needs it when you're in Hawaii? There's a small kitchen with necessities, walk in shower, a lot of space to store your clothes, outdoor and I door tables and chairs, a rack for your wet/ sandy clothes and towels, and they let you borrow beach towels and a robe! They offer complimentary breakfast, too! During our stay (Aug 17-19), they had fresh fruits such as papaya, cantaloupe, pineapples, bread, bagels, coffee, tea... The fruits were the best part tbh. Parking: they have a tiny lot so if you don't get lucky, park on the street. The Mauian, in my opinion, is a great place to stay for families with little kids, those looking for a very relaxing area away from huge crowds and that city-ish life, those who are on a honeymoon, whatever it may be -- The Mauian should be on your list! The Mauian isn't too far from many places either. Lahaina is about 15-20 minutes away. There's a grocery shop less than 10 minutes away. Views 15-60 mins away. Restaurants 5-15 mins away. We stayed here for two nights on our trip and overall had a pretty good experience! The good: - It's right on the beach, like I don't think you can get any closer! They also provide beach chairs! - It's cheap for being right on the water. You can't find anywhere else that's under $300 a night with ocean views, a balcony, AND a kitchen with full size fridge! - I have to emphasize again the amazing balcony because most of the balconies are beach-facing and you can enjoy the beautiful Maui beach sunset while eating or sitting on your balcony. The okay: - no TV, but who needs a TV when you're living on a beach in Maui?! - breakfast hours are super early and don't feel the "safest" during covid-times - they only give you two towels and you have to go trade them in to get new ones... kind of frustrating but you can go ask them for an additional at the front desk/towel room The bad: - There was a cockroach in our room and a couple of ants at night time... I think it could be because this is an older resort. Also I know roaches are common on the islands and in tropical places in general, so it's understandable, but I think they could do a better job on overall cleaning to prevent roaches. Hidden gem if you want to snorkel and you can "disconnect". We randomly booked this hotel last minute for a destination wedding. We picked it based on its close location to the venue, the reasonable price (no parking/resort/etc. fees), and it did not require a 5 night stay. It exceeded our expectations. We plan to go back again next year. First, this hotel is not for you if you want to work remotely. It does not have solid internet (even our "business wireless" hot spot struggled) and it does not have a desk. It also does not have modern conveniences like a TV, radio, or telephone. Second, this hotel is not for you if you are loud/like to be loud. It is a 1950s/60s hotel with single wall construction. There are quiet hours from 10p to 7a, and it was our experience that hotel guests abided by them. We shared walls with a family with kids and did not hear them at all. Third, this hotel is not for you if you are looking for lux accommodations. It is very comfortable and clean but it is dated and well-used. It has carpet. It has an AC unit that worked well, and louvres windows that allow for a cross-breeze and ocean noises at night. It is comfortable for 2 adults and maybe a small kid. But 4 adults would be too cramped. But this hotel is definitely for you if you want to be active without driving. There is a small beach with a calm, swimmable bay and a coral reef for snorkeling. It is next door to a small shopping center with rentals for kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling, etc. The shopping center also had a small cafe with coffee and sandwiches and a nail shop. It is on the Kapalua coastal trail for hiking, tide pools, and multiple beaches. We snuck onto the basketball court and tennis court at the Ritz, which is about 1 mile away along the trail. There was also an intense pickle ball club across the street. It is within .25 miles from a fine dining restaurant and three casual restaurants, and a few more hotel restaurant at hotels along the trail. It is about a 1 to 3 mile drive from a few grocery stores/mini malls, and it's on a local bus line. We barely drove our rental car. Beyond the beach, the gardens at this location are Instagram worthy. It had a retainer wall bench along beach that folks were always using. It also had beach chairs and beach towels. It was one of the only places that was ADA accessible to the sand, and we saw many locals with wagons/kids using it as beach access. In regard to rooms, we had an ocean front room - 208 (upstairs). It was literally 25 steps from the sand. There is a large plumeria tree that hosted lots of blooms, birds, lizards and cats. The lanai was great in the mornings but got very hot in the afternoons. It had a sunset views from the Lanai and the bed. If you don't like the sun, try Room 209 that had a sunrise view but was in the shade after 11a. We heard that the garden rooms were a bit quieter, more private, and had less sun exposure. Also, we felt very safe at this hotel even though it is a very casual property with non-property residents using the walkways. We often saw the friendly security guards and landscape staff walking the property throughout the day. The cleaning staff was also very respectful and nice. read more

This is a little hidden gem on a and we WILL NOT stay anywhere else on-island! If you're looking for a big, upscale resort experience, don't stay here. This is a small, boutique hotel with comfortable rooms and unparalleled beach access-the second time we stayed here, I counted my steps from our upstairs room in Building B to the beach: 25 steps (not including the stairs.) For what we pay to stay here, I would've expected to be in a Motel 6 nowhere near the beach. We choose to stay in a room with a kitchenette - cooktop, convection microwave, full-size fridge - to help defray costs while we're there. There are no tvs, except the one in the community room. I don't want or need a tv and am thankful there isn't one. There are also books to read/take to the beach with you. Take a book/leave a book sort of thing. The grounds are impeccably groomed and exactly what you'd expect when you visit a tropical island. The security guard makes rounds at night just for extra security. I have no fear of anything untoward happening at the hotel but it's nice to know he's there and available. He also is sweet and accommodating. I love that breakfast is available each day! Delicious fresh fruit, coffee, toast and bagels, hard-boiled eggs, and juice. And if you don't like what's offered, feel free to go buy breakfast somewhere. Some of you complainers need to look up the definition of Continental Breakfast: "...a light option typically consisting of pastries and baked goods, fruits, toast, and coffee." The pool is not huge, but again, that's not why I'm visiting Maui. I do go and hang out there several times during our visits and eat at the tables after hubby grills our dinner right there. Also, as a beginner snorkeler, this was the perfect place to practice for the first time. We cannot be happier staying here. Each time we stay, we run into people that have been coming for YEARS! Back for more at the wonderful Mauian. This time I had to reserve different rooms in order to piece together our stay ( I booked four days together a year in advance, and added more days months later) and to my delight the lovely front desk ladies called me as I was departing home to let me know they could combine my different reservations and reduce the need to change rooms so many times. So, I ended up in a beachfront room for two nights and partial ocean view for the remainder of our stay. Two differences this time around: no more wiki wiki breakfast, and no more individual bathroom amenities (but hooray for reducing plastic waste!). The price point is higher this time around, but the charm and location still enthral, if not for the very noisy families with small children disrupting the peace. I think families would be better grouped into a single building, allowing the quieter couples more peace during their stay. When I think "boutique" experience, rambunctious kids do not come to mind! The great is its location. Napili Bay is stunning. Proximity to this paradise of a beach is priceless. Walking distance to some decent eateries is bonus. The grounds are impeccably clean and well maintained. I would give the staff a 10 star if I could. . A huge shout out to Don. He is so very kind and a joy to converse with. Because of location, I would stay here again. However, it's impossible to review the entire hotel with a 5 star rating because of a few minor but important details. I will say the walls are thin and you can hear everything. The guests above and guests to either side are easily heard. If anyone walks by and is speaking at a normal decibel, you can hear EVERY WORD. There is only coffee and pineapple juice. There is no longer any choice of food items. Not huge but would be nice if they still provided a pastry and fruit at the least. Again, not a huge deal but worth notating. One more shout out to its location and beach access. The hotel was very quaint and the room was quite large. The interior was somewhat dated but still nice. Room didn't have a TV but that's the whole concept. Was nice to disconnect. The room view was decent, had a lot of lush plants out front like plumeria which made a good view to look at. Bathroom was spacious and had all the necessities. My only gripes I have was the parking. Made me anxious going out at night and not finding a spot when I get back. The other gripe was how thin the walls were in my room. I could hear all the conversations between the 2 rooms I was in between. Perhaps this is why there is no TV in the rooms. Being a light sleeper this was not fun to endure. Not sure how a hotel could improve that structurally but keep in mind you MAY have this issue in your room. I'd say this was an amazing place to stay and great service. We arrived after hours and they left a key and note for us so it was easy to get our room. (We arrived around 8pm) Breakfast was hard boiled eggs, a sweet bread, butter, a toaster, fresh cut Mangos, 3 kinds of tropical juice and coffee. The price might be a little high but you are so close to the almost private beach ( a 10 second walk) and watch the sunsets with chairs that the guests are welcome to us to use. Totally worth the price! It also had a pool but we didn't bother to use it since the ocean was just there. Our room had a fridge and a small kitchen type area with a microwave which was perfect for us. We would grab our breakfast and bring to our little front porch area where we would relax, listen to the birds and enjoy the Maui air. The location is near a little strip mall of food places, coffee and shopping. You could even walk next door rent snorkeling gear. I look forward to my next stay at The Mauian for sure! First of all, if you are looking for a luxury resort, with a lot of amenities, huge pools, water slides, hula shows, and the commercial Hawaii blah, blah, blah. Go to Oahu ! If you are looking for your inner peace, a place to relax and unwind, a place that you feel like you have just stepped into a post card for "Paradise of Hawaii", welcome to the Mauian. The rooms are clean, our room had a small kitchen, with all of the dishes and utensils needed to fix a meal, if we wanted to cook. The tables are inside and on the balcony to enjoy a nice meal either way. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom had a refreshing rain shower head . I enjoyed our little room, very comfortable. The price was awesome for a beachfront hotel on Maui. The Beach, Napili Beach is the most Beautiful beach on Maui, ( I may be biased ). I LOVE this place and apparently so do many people, as getting a reservation is extremely hard, I found that you must reserve at least a year or more in advance if you want to stay a week. The lighting was insufficient in the room. You can't read a book. The front desk shuts at 4pm - so they just put your keys in an envelope with instructions. read more

First of all, the staff (minus the front desk ladies) were so awesome and friendly--from the groundskeepers to housekeepers. They really are 5 stars. I think the hotel really owes them a lot for being a redeeming quality. They should get a raise for keeping this business open. However, don't come here if you want peace and quiet. You will not get it. This place is more like a community where people come to socialize. It's noisy. There were tons of kids and babies screaming at 5am to wake up the whole community. The worst part is that the rooms are noisy. You can hear everything. If you're on the lower level you will hear people walking above you, and stomping if they have heavy feet. I requested to move the first night there but there were no rooms available. The front desk lady said she would let me know. People moved in and out but I never received a call. Very lazy. She also never said anything at checkout. No come by again or how was your stay. The groundskeeper and security guy said please come again. Nice people. If your idea of a vacation is more a social thing mingling with other families, then you might like it. But forget getting privacy. This is not a place you will get that. It's also very pricey for dealing with all these problems. Extra shot out the parents of the baby who cried at exactly 5am every morning for a week and proceeded to take this baby out on the balconies for everyone to hear! The Mauian is best way to experience Maui...! The atmosphere here is laid back and relaxed. Its not overly crowded like Ka'anapali beach and other parts of Maui. The guests and staff were all really friendly and location can't be any closer to the beach. The beach was our favorite part of staying here. You are literally steps from the beach. You don't have to go down long hallways, through big lobbyys, down elevators, etc...like a big hotel. You just walk out your door and you're 20' from the beach. The snorkeling was great the first day and we say turtles and plenty of fish, the waters were rougher the following days and more murky. The units are small, as a family of 4 it was a bit tight but we managed. Next time I would opt for a 1st floor unit so the kids can leave all their sandy and wet stuff right outside before tracking it inside. Depending on the time of year you visit you want to choose one side or the other to see the sunset from your room. The morning breakfast is nice but its not a full serve breakfast with lots of options. Our unit didn't have ac and it was hot...but all units will have ac before January 2019 they told us. Today is Monday, and I'm just coming off a tranquil "staycation" at the Mauian. Truly one of the best places I've stayed. Even better then The Grand Wailea, in my opinion. To start...the staff was welcoming and pleasant, it was cute to see my name on the board welcoming me. The grounds create a quaint courtyard feel. Our room was located upstairs in clear view of the ocean. We stayed in room 211, and it was perfect for my husband and me. Cozy and spacious studio, that easily can sleep 4 people. The room included a well stocked kitchen and large refrigerator. The bathroom was full of yummy delights and aromatic soaps. The lanai overlooked the shuffle board and the beach. The room does not have phone or TV and that was okay with us. We enjoyed having our dinner on the lanai. We ordered takeout from the best Chinese Restaurant on the Westside, see my review on China Boat Restaurant. They literally delivered 20 minutes after ordering, who does that?? So fabulous! Anyway- Things we enjoyed: -talking and walking on the path -taking a walk to the Sea House for dessert - Continental breakfast in the morning, of cinnamon bread, papaya, hard boiled eggs, and so many other goodies. - Of course the ocean... swimming with my Boo! - Sunset.... let me say that again.... SUNSET.... stunning. Overall, a great place to refresh. Go and try this place alone or with your family. Yes, It is a popular spot for families. The biggest downgrade is the parking situation. The parking slots are very tight. They should assign slots for each guest with a car. I hesitate to reveal that the Mauian is a dream, underrated, a total hidden gem. We'll definitely be returning. It completely lived up to the photos, and the location is by far one of the best on the island. Napili Bay, one of the calmest swimming beaches, is the "backyard" of the hotel, steps away from your room. We stayed at a few different hotels on Maui, but the Mauian is the one we'll be going back to, no question. For $200/nt, you can't beat the location & simple but tasteful amenities. Keep in mind, the Mauian is best for travelers who want to settle in and make themselves at home, and know how to entertain themselves -- the rooms are a cross between a modern beach hotel & a spacious condo, with patios in front of each room, and full kitchens in some rooms (we opted for just a kitchenette, which was fine). They offer a simple but fresh breakfast each morning, with fruit, breads, coffee & tea. As far as on-site amenities, it's all about the beach & sunsets. The pool is laughably small, but seemed popular with the kids. The grounds are gorgeous, with lush tropical plants everywhere you turn. It's like staying on your own private Hawaiian plantation. There are only about 40 rooms at the hotel, so it feels very calm, despite the majority of guests being families with children. Parking lot is a plus, since you'll definitely want a car to explore the island. Also, the restaurant at the hotel next door (Sea House) has an awesome happy hour with ridiculous sunset views of Napili Bay, and there's a great coastal trail that begins nearby too. Recommended by a friend, we stayed here and just absolutely loved it. We got a suite with a partial beach view. I learned that "partial beach view" in Maui terms means you're not completely facing the beach, but we had an AMAZING view!!! Our room was only about 50 steps from the beach and we slept to the sound of waves at night on a comfy memory foam mattress. There is no AC bit open the windows and turn on the fan for that sea breeze. Our suite had a huge walk in shower with the best smelling soap too! We also had a small, but perfect vacation-use kitchen (go to Costo by Kahalui Airport beforehand) with a full size fridge. There are three gas grills by the pool for evening cooking. Each day our pad was cleaned by the sweetest ladies and the breakfast was yummy with kona coffee, hawaiian bread rolls, cereal, fresh baked banana bread, and local sweet fruit like papaya, cantaloupe, and pineapple. The best part is that there is no television so you don't get woken by the neighbor's tv. I also recommend getting the upper level room since the floors are carpeted and not tile. The tile tends to echo and be a but noisier. There is free guest wifi for staying in touch while away but it can be a bit slow due to shared use by guests - however you're not there to watch tv and surf the net, you go there for the beach and Napili Bay is a gorgeous place with turtle-inhabited reef and tide pools on either end! read more

If you want to get away from the typical touristy spots & hotels with beachfront paradise, in a beautiful picturesque little bay near Kapalua, this well-maintained, friendly boutique hotel has been a memorable choice. We have toured the island for 3 weeks and this was definitely our favourite spot! Big Beach in Makena hits 2nd on the list and we love the town of Paia. No A/C but there are two large ceiling fans and screen windows in the front and back so there's plenty of cross breeze. We didn't have an issue with it at all. Rooms nicely appointed with tasteful and contemporary Hawaiian decor with full (but small) kitchen and a lanai looking out to the beach just steps away. We love watching the sunsets from our 2nd floor room. Napili is much quieter so it was great to drive to Kaanapali or Lahaina for dinner and we made lunch or ate at the Napili Kai Sea House right next door. Napili Village has a grocery store, a few restaurants and shops nearby as well. The waves aren't as big, rough and dangerous as Big Beach or the beaches near Paia, but they're still strong making it fun for all, with caution at times. Lots of families with young children in the water here but not overly crowded like other beaches. The bay is perfect with coral surrounding it for fantastic snorkelling and there are lots of turtles in this bay. They have a nice complimentary breakfast here - delicious homemade various breads, buns and fruit. No TV and Wifi is definitely spotty in the rooms but we are here to relax so it was nice to be unplugged and offline. Wifi is available in the breakfast/lobby room if needed. Pros: My son and I really enjoyed our stay in Napili Bay at the Mauian. We stayed three nights in a downstairs room ocean front and then moved and spent four nights in an upstairs room ocean front room due to availability. I would not recommend doing that because the move was kind of a pain especially since we had groceries and boogie boards I just wouldn't do that again. We were literally steps to the sand. I have never been so close to the water. The tropical landscaping is beautiful with lots of greenery lots of open space and an incredible view. I took gorgeous sunset pictures and double rainbow views Just stunning. The water in Napili Bay was calm and perfect for wading, floatin, swimming. There was awesome snorkeling right there at our hotel and also at the hotels on either side of us. Lots of fish and sea turtles. Yay!!! Room: Our room was nicely decorated with dark woods and white linens. It seemed modern and freshly renovated. There were tile floors throughout and they provided a broom to sweep up the sand. We had a nice patio on both our upper and lower room. Both rooms also came with a small kitchen fully appointed with dishes, silverware, pans etc. The kitchen also had a blender and a full-size refrigerator/freezer and microwave. There was a stove but NO OVEN We stopped at Costco and bought a bunch of food so hat we did not have to eat out every meal. That was really nice and came in handy especially when traveling with my 17 y/p son. We also picked up a couple of snorkel sets and a boogie board at Costco. The Mauian has a Free breakfast every morning. There is an assortment of local fruits/all you can eat bananas papaya mango and pineapple. Yummy!. We even took some back to the room and made smoothies later. They also had some Hawaiian sweet bread, yogurt coffee and fresh juice. We were super, super excited about the fresh fruits and breads the first couple of days. But it was the exact same breakfast every day. Even though it was super fresh and delicious, After a few mornings we did not want to eat fruit and bread anymore. We were looking for more variety. Another really nice thing about the Mauian is that the parking was free and easy to access. Over all, my favorite thing was how close we were to the sandy beach and the gorgeous view from our room.. There were no crowds and great snorkeling. It felt like we lived there, not like we were on vacation ( which is a good thing/not so good thing). Cons: There is no jacuzzi at the Mauian. Being that we traveled in December, I found myself really wanting to slip into a warm Jacuzzi in the evenings. Especially, because there's not a lot going on at all in Napili Bay at night. You are steps away from the Sea House restaurant looked really nice and we were a very short walk away from the Gazebo restaurant which is open for breakfast/brunch only. We did not eat at either one because of the Costco food we had purchased. But pretty much, every night we drove to different areas around Maui for dinner, and to catch some nightly entertainment. If you're going to stay in Napili Bay, you NEED to rent a car for sure. Beautiful location extremely low-key. But the main attraction is the beach. Nothing going on whatsoever at night. Nada. So I guess it really depends what you're looking for. We definitely missed not having Jacuzzi access, not having any musical entertainment available at the hotel or even really nearby oh and there's no TV in the room. It's not a super big deal because we had our laptops. But when you're paying $$$ it would be nice to be able just to turn on the TV or have something to do at night. I would stay at the Mauian again but probably just for just the first couple of nights to unwind. Maui is a very large island. We did a ton of driving. I'm not complaining, we had a great trip. We basically did all of our exploring at night going to different hotels and beaches for dinner or entertainment. But then we also did a lot of exploring during the day. Even though the beach was awesome, after a couple days, we wanted to see what other beaches around Maui were like. So a lot of times we were exploring/driving during the day and the night. I think overall I probably would've just planned the trip differently to have more variety. Either I'd stay at different locations on Maui to reduce the driving, or I just stay on Maui for a couple of days and then fly over to Kauai. read more

It is a cute property and right on the beach. That said, the beach gets very crowded because it is not private. The partial ocean view was off the balcony, but that was fine. Hearing the waves lap back and forth was very soothing. The grounds are very well maintained, but the units themselves are outdated and somewhat shabby. While the bathroom had been remodeled, the living area needed an upgrade with new carpet and furniture. Evidence of the recent fresh coat of paint was left as excess paint streaks on glass, etc and was not performed very well. What was nice was the memory foam bed. Cupboard handles were sticky and I found a cockroach on the kitchen floor the last night there. The refrigerator door had dents in it. That said, there is a full kitchen with sink, blender, coffee maker, toaster, and plates and utensils. There are no televisions in the rooms, and given the paper thin walls (you can hear a lot going on next door and above and below), I understand why. They need to replace all their incandescent light bulbs with leds and use the same color temp. My unit was very multi-colored at night. The pool was refreshing, but not warm. There are lots of friendly local cats on the property, which if you are a cat person like me, is wonderful. Some exotic birds fly by and visit too. The "free breakfasts" that consist of coffee, hard boiled eggs, fruit and sweet rolls could be expanded to include eggs and meat. This place is pricey and you're paying for the views and the proximity to the beach. Parking is limited, but you are provided a permit. There are a couple of local restaurants within a 5 min walk, which is convenient. Since I arrived after hours, the friendly security guard checked me in and walked me to my building. Overall, a good visit, but I probably won't be staying here again. Aloha. read more

You come to the Mauian for it's location, beautiful grounds and clean, updated rooms. And, you put up with a few negatives. The rooms are very, very small and are very close together. The upper rooms are better for noise and view, but the lower rooms have the convenience of walk out patios for accessing the pool and beach. The Mauian Inn is very stingy with their towels. Basically only two bath and beach towels per room at any given time. And getting replacements is a hassle. A very strange policy for an expensive place. While they advertise a continental breakfast, it's one of the worst I've ever come across. Basically worthless. Little diversity, weak coffee and poor bread/pastries. There is only wifi in the lobby area. It is very popular with family groups and there are very few couples found here. read more

Okay. So I'm way conflicted about this. See, on the one hand I don't want to out what has got to be one of Maui's best kept secrets and in the process possibly ruin the whole dealio for myself. On the other hand the upstanding citizen/civic-minded/Jack Armstrong/hail-fellow-well-met side of me feels overwhelmingly compelled to bring it to the attention of you, the Maui-visiting public. Stand back: I feel a song coming on. You want value? Sheesh. The Mauian's got value streaming out of it's freaking...pores, like some kinda whack disease. The following is not based on empirical evidence or the Scientific Method or anything along those lines mind you, but I seriously doubt you could get more bang for your lodging buck anywhere else in Maui. Did I say Maui? Probably not anywhere else in Hawaii. Possibly not anywhere else in the world at any time in the course of human history, with the possible exception of the Beat Hotel in 1959. But I wouldn't recommend staying there (two stars), even if you could go back to 1959, which for all I know, all things being equal and therefore theoretically possible and so on, you may well be capable of doing. I think you know what I'm saying. Perhaps not. Anyway, speaking of 1959, if memory serves (which it often doesn't), I believe the Mauian originally opened in 1959. Lucky for you, cowboy, they done undergone a way extensive remodel last year and went and got the place all gussied up real nice-like for ya. I know what you're saying. You're saying, "Jimmy J., how can the Mauian be so fucking good?" Stay here and I'll tell you. Let's start with breakfast, as so many of us do. Each day begins with a continental breakfast served in the community room thing which has a name which inconveniently escapes me at the moment. You'll know it when you see it. It'll be the place where everyone's eating breakfast every morning. Mmmm. Sweet delicious breakfast. Papaya, pineapple, melon, raisin bread, coffee, juice, muffins, other stuff. 'Course you don't have to eat there. You can always take it back to your balcony, or patio, as the case may be. If you do choose to dine al fresco, let me warn you: do not turn your back on your food for one instant, otherwise it will be descended upon and devoured in seconds by about a trillion pigeons. Trust me. It happened to me. About five times. And the pigeons won't leave, even if you punch them in the face. If you're not all that into filthy pigeons eating your food, I suppose you could always eat in your room, but for some reason that never occurred to me until just now. On Thursday evenings a "Meet & Greet" is held in the community room thing where you bring some pupu, which in Hawaiian means "appetizer" and in English, of course, sounds like the exact opposite (although, if you think about it, one eventually becomes the other). Live music and mai tais are provided by the House. I shit you not. Next, the staff: Need anything? No seriously. I mean ANYTHING. Just ask. They'll make it happen. Hell, the guy mowing the grass booked us a whale watching excursion, restaurant reservations, and some elective surgery whilst riding around on his John Deere in front of our room. I'm reasonably certain that if I had asked the maid for a rubdown with a happy ending (as I was strongly tempted to do, but was talked out of by Scarfy) she would have happily obliged at no extra charge. Did I mention that the Mauian is located on the shores of beautiful Napili Bay, and is only steps away from Kaanapali Beach, one of the premier snorkeling spots in Maui? Not to sound like a brochure or anything. Also steps away is a micro-mini shopping mall type thing that has on offer pretty much everything from soup to nuts, all at - dig this - reasonable prices. My mother, brother and I decided to take a family vacation down in Maui. And, boy, was The Mauian the perfect place to stay! Beautiful, idyllic ground filled with various plant life, and only a couple steps from Napili beach, which had great sand, a couple of well-placed palm trees on the beach, and wonderful water. As for the hotel itself, I only wished I had known how to take full advantage of all the Mauian had to offer. Every room comes with a fridge and microwave, and the pool is surrounded by 4 huge bbq grills. There's also an outside sitting area that is covered, and an inside one with a TV (board games at the front office if you feel like playing). If you're staying here, I recommend going to Costco before you head in and buy 1) lots of food good for grilling and snacking, because you're not going to want to leave the grounds and 2) beach umbrellas, noodles, and whatever other fun beach stuff you need to have a good time. Chairs and beach towels are provided by the hotel. There's a yummy breakfast every morning at 8, which my family took full advantage of (no eggs, though), and a beautiful sunset which a lot of people came out to watch. This place is great for people who want the experience of Maui without the hype and touristy vibe of the bigger hotels. If you want to walk out of your room and see the beach (AND feel like it's your own private beach), this is the place for you. read more

My girlfriend and I had a terrible experience at the Mauian. We had saved up a long time for our trip to Maui. We stayed at a nice bed & breakfast for the beginning of our trip and wanted to splurge and stay at a nice place at the Mauian for the last 2 nights to end our trip. When we arrived we were really disappointed. First of all, our "partial ocean view" room did not have a view of the ocean. You have to go outside and just before you reach the common walkway, you can get a peek of the beach. I personally think this is quite dishonest. After that, we looked around the room itself and it was pretty bad as well. This place looks like it has not been renovated in 20+ years, it feels like we are living in somebody's grandparent's house. Furthermore, the room was not clean, the bathroom was dirty and there was a big stain on the couch. The place was also on the main floor and you can hear everything outside and in other rooms. There is no air conditioning, you have to open the blinds on the doors and then everyone can see inside your room. There is also no phone in the room and poor quality wifi connection. To be fair, the location is good and the staff dealt with our complaint to the best of their ability. We ended up only staying one night and were refunded our money for the second night. My problem is with the owners and management who misrepresent their rooms as "partial ocean view" when it is not and who just make money from the hotel but do not bother to invest their money back into the rooms. We paid 2/3 of a grand for two nights at this place. I remember sitting down on the bed of the room feeling like I was just robbed. Do not stay here!!!! read more
