Went here tonight with my love... the food was fantastic. We got the Wisconsin trio. It's 9.95 per person but that's only if you want a double serving. We split the single serving and it was more than enough! Drinks range from $8.95- $12.00 Beer $5.00 My waitress Ally was amazing, she made the experience even better. The ambiance was super fancy and she was extremely down to earth which was refreshing. By the end of the night we had inside jokes with her and everything! :) I had the raspberry vinaigrette salad with toasted pecans. It was great. I had Tuna, Sirloin and the pesto shrimp My love had duck, chicken breast and Salmon We chose to cook it in the Mojo. They give you 6 different sauces for dipping, honestly I only liked two and they still weren't something I'd choose to eat at home. Let me preface by saying we went to this location on 2/14/2009 and haven't returned for good reason. I decided to write about it after seeing several people had issues with the waitstaff~ The waiter knew nothing of the special that I wanted to purchase. After I explained the whole buy a gift card get a gift card email notice that I received - he left our table, returned and said that was not a special. Paid for our ticket...and oopsie... the special notice was included on the jacket sleeve. I paid and left. Thinking to myself: this is why we should've went to the one of the locations in Chicagoland just not Madtown. I emailed or called and a manger did follow up. His resolution was not, let me refund your dinner price and please buy the gift card or we'll provide you with what you were looking for @ no charge. It was, "I'm sorry he wasn't aware of the advertisement." We hung up with nothing else to say. I should've went directly to a manager that day but I was trying not ruin a lovely Valentine's for the kid as she was excited not to have the kid's menu. in her words, "I feel like a teenager!" It's been over 2 years and I'll tell you - you are NOT missing anything. The seasoning for the food didn't permeate the meats so ultimately - we had seafood dipped in butter and we were eating (and enjoying) the hot butter more than the meal. Lovely decor. This was my first time at any of the Melting Pots. The fondue date night is such a great, unique experience for people looking for something different to do. At first the menu is a little busy, but friendly staff help you organize and decide how to start. They also provide 4 course creations or a build your own. We decided to create our 4 course meal. To start, we had Wisconsin cheddar cheese fondue with multiple types of dipping breads, pretzels and fruit. We then continued to our entrees with a house salad. I recommend the honey mustard dressing! We chose our four meats: sausage, tuna, duck and filet mignon. Choosing our broth was difficult because it has to be something that will flavor all the meat selected including fish. We chose the white wine, scallion and mushroom. broth. Included with your entrees you have 6 sauces to choose from for your dipping pleasure. My favorite was the yellow curry dipping sauce. Went great with our duck! To finish we chose a chocolate fondue- s'mores. They provide multiple dipping items like pieces brownies, waffles, fruit, and marshmallows. To complete the meal I had a white cranberry peach martini. Very sweet I could hardly taste any alcohol but very good if you like sweet drinks. Overall, this place has an intimate setting for two. Felt weird tipping 20% on a $300 bill when we barely saw the waiter. Staff in general seemed like nice, but untrained high school kids. 60th birthday dinner here. Great food we started with the alpine Swiss fondue and had the ayce menu. And we ended with the chocolate s'mores fondue. All was superb. One of the best things about our dinner was Talia(sp?) out waitress she was wonderful she has a sparkling personality and checked on us often making sure we were good. What a huge disappointment! Went to dinner here to celebrate my teenage daughter's birthday and it was horrible. Clearly our server didn't realize that she didn't deliver the normal birthday experience at this restaurant (which we, as a family, have been celebrating for over 15 years). Our box of chocolate covered strawberries were just thrown on the table, and that was the extent of it! The burner was left on after each course to the point that smoke (from burning leftovers) came and went. Fondue is not just some 70s word I grew up with that somehow was also associated with The Brady Bunch or some-such cliche. My wife first took me to this place many years ago and I loved it. Tonight she asked me to meet her and our 15 year old son, as well as one of our dearest friends and her daughter at this place for dinner. Being that I arrived at or after 8p the place was pretty vacant, being Thursday that's no surprise. The sweet girl at the door greeted me kindly and knew exactly where my group was. (? and my name too.) They we're here 20 minutes by the time I showed up Upon being seated I'd hoped for instant refreshments, but that took way longer than I would expect. Easily 15+ minutes before someone finally came along to see if I'd like anything to drink. I was beginning to get annoyed. The rest of my table had drinks. My party had already decided to go all out and do the Four Course package off the menu. The specifics were vague but they said "cheese" was on its way. I'd just previously worked all day, skipped lunch, and when I'd finally arrived home just before 7, I was starving, so I'd made a quick grilled cheese on garlic sourdough. It was incredible. Melted fontina cheese with rather tame seasonings in a fondue pot blended with white wine at a restaurant served with an assortment of veges and bland white bread cubes was a sorry let down. It was melted,but at such a low temp, I kinda felt a little let down. But at least the server, Emily, finally brought me a beer. The next course was the salads and my spinach with pecans, feta (should've been a tart creamy goat) and strawberries was almost delicious. Another beer thankfully was delivered. Karbon Four IPA. The others had a classic iceberg lettuce salad, the expected accompaniments, and nice ranch type dressing. The next and main course was now ordered, my wife did the Steak plate, Tenderloin Filet, and some assorted beef cuts with interesting seasonings. Myself, I had a classic, as it was titled, same beef except the tenderloin, 3 shrimps, chicken, pork. Same was ordered for our friends. Also offered in each setting was a pair of bowls with some broccoli snd little mushroom caps and potato wedges. The fun part is the induction plates at each table. These are stove top heating elements of a sort. Unlike a conventional glass top cooking surface, induction heats only the cookware and its contents. The glass-top itself remains essentially cool to the touch, so it's quite safe, and also doesn't generate radiant heat. I remodeled my kitchen a few years ago, so I wasn't as amazed as I was before having experienced this phenomena. Atop each of the two hot surfaces, were placed a pair of cooking pots, one with a blend of oil, the other was a broth of chicken stock and wine, and appropriate herbs and seasonings to adorn our proteins and veg. This part was great, Emily, was now making a more frequent appearance, so some direction was being offered, as well as keeping my IPA topped up. A little chart to assist diners not comfortable with cooking temps and times for safe prep of meats made sense. Beef is not a thing for great concern, while rare chicken is one that does need some proper handling info. This part of the meal was fantastic. I love to cook and having a couple different options to experiment with, one bite at a time, was something that fully made it worth the earlier feelings I felt as I awaited the server in my first 10-15 minutes. The last course was dessert. Suffice it to breeze quickly thru this: melted chocolate, marshmallow and a liqueur to flambé, nice presentation. We were each given a platter with things like sponge cake, rice crispy squares, strawberry wedges, waffles and some other things that blended into the sugar euphoria that was threatening to overpower my beer buzz. The experience was gratifying. Memorable. The service once underway, was exceptional. I look anxiously towards my next visit, which won't be years from now I'm certain. I'm considering my options for tomorrow's breakfast as I write these words! But realistically I do think next month might have a splurge able reason to return. At just under $200 for just my wife son and myself, I can't say this is my to be my usual dinner stop in this lifetime. read more

The Melting Pot (MP) is one of those places where the cost does not justify the meal. My boyfriend and I dined here on the last day of Restaurant Week, 2015. The menu sounded appetizing and I'd never dinner at the MP before so it sounded like a solid pick. I made RSVP I believe on a Tuesday. The earliest we could make the RSVP for was 9:30pm. This right there told me they were going to be packed. And packed they were when we got there. Luckily, we ended up not waiting too long to be seated. Mostly that was because a table in the bar area became available which is less popular than the dining room. The hostess asked if we would be OK with our seat or it would be close to a 15 minute wait to be seated in the main dining area. It made no difference to me so the bar was fine. In fact, I really liked our seat. As I read reviews from other Yelpers! on here, I see a lot of people write about their wait service. Fortunately for us, our waitress was great. Kyla was her name. Thought she did a wonderful job. I believe it was her first night as a waitress and she was fantastic. Thank you, Kyla! Getting to the actually food. Excuse my ignorance but I was not expecting this to be a place where you cook your own food. LOL! I am actually embarrassed to say that but it's true. The idea however is cool so I had no problem with it. What I did have a problem with was how portion sizes compared to the price of the meal. Again, this was Restaurant week so they had "specials" . I ordered the "Silver Plate" which was 3 shrimp, 3 pieces of white chicken breast , 3 piece of beef and 3 VERY SMALL bite site sized spinach and artichoke ravioli. When I say small, I mean like nickel sized. It cames with a variety of sauces which were very good. Problem? Well, you had more sauce than you had actual meat to dip them in!!!! We ordered a special broth that was $2 compared to two other broths that were free. It also came with a salad and of course, shared desert. I grocery shop a lot so I know how much food cost. The most expensive thing on the plate were the shrimp (medium sized). I just do not see how this meal could cost $25. For the third time, this is Restaurant Week so I am sure the price is more in retrospect. Also, if you're a vegetarian, do bother to come here. The menus is very limited. At the end of the nite, I was satisfied. Not full but not hungry. I was very much in the middle. I will say thought that later that night, I made me a sandwich at home. This was my first time being at the Melting Pot in years and first time in this location. The prices were a bit steep but it's well worth it for a group of friends or intimate date night! The food was very very tasty. We had a variety of meats which were well seasoned and paired well with our broth. We also had some tomato ravioli which was sooo good. The basil pesto shrimp was also delicious. We had the creamy crab cheese fondue to start off, shrimp ceviche salad, our main course of meats, then topped it off with the Chocolate Mojito fondue! The fondues come with a variety of foods to dip into it and it's very filling. Don't be fooled by how small the cuts look, this meal will fill you up. The service was impeccable. Kent treated us well and was very kind. He is a fantastic server and was always accommodating. The service was quick and came to our table consistently to make sure we were taken care of. I don't know what a real fondue should be like, but it's a fun experience for a first-time eater! The staff was very friendly and explained how the entrees work. I tried the cheddar cheese fondue. Lots of fun as you see how the fondue is being made just in front of you. There were three different bread, veggies, and green apples to go with the fondue. The garlic bread made a perfect match with the cheese, and to my surprise, the green apple also went amazing together with cheese. For the house salad, I liked their tangy dressing very much. And as they recommended, the salad also goes well with their housemade garlic and wine powder. For the pot, you can choose three different entrees. I would say go with their recommendations. I liked the pesto chicken the most. The BBQ pork and white shrimp also taste very good. Not that much into their beef options, lots of room for improvement. We have looking forward to trying the Melting Pot for a while now, and wow, what a disappointment! We had a party of three for my daughter's birthday and we went with the four course meal. It started well with the cheese fondue (we chose the Alpine). It was prepared at our table and was a nice beginning to the meal. The fondue was flavorful and the items to dip were good - a variety of breads and vegetables. Unfortunately the salad course was very disappointing. The house garden salads were on par with the salad you'd get at a Denny's and the Wisconsin wedge wasn't much better. So disappointing. The entree portion wasn't much better. We chose the classic with the bouillon broth to cook the meat in. The shrimps were pretty small (probably 28 count), the two beef choices were close to being over seasoned and the pork and chicken were ok. Fortunately, the dark chocolate with salted caramel dessert fondue somewhat made up for the lackluster salad and entree. I would have liked more strawberries and less cake type items to dip though. The service was very good with our waiter being attentive without overbearing. A nice touch were the chocolate covered strawberries for her to take home at the end of the night. Unfortunately, for the money, ($200 for three if us, with one drink each) I would not get a full meal again. Maybe I'm just a person who's just not crazy about cheese dip. I think one or two appetizers with special cheesy melts are great, but not when you have three courses of bread dipping cheese melt, vegetable dipping cheese melt, and meat dipping cheese melt. Honestly, I think the bread and cheese dip is great and maybe the vegetables and cheese, but I'd much rather have quality meat on its own (I don't think Melting Pot's meat is that quality though). Chocolate fondue is great too, but that's something you can make at home. Just melt a Hershey's chocolate bar and dip fruit or crackers into it. We have been fans of the Melting Pot for years, and have gone to at least half a dozen locations. The Madison location is extremely well-run, on busy nights or a nice quiet Monday. I highly recommend trying a less busy day to get the perfect experience. Josh found us a quiet table that was great for a date night, and Talia & Rose to exceptional care to make sure it was an outstanding evening. For the money (and it was restaurant week) this place is definitely not worth it. At this price level we expected a lot more! First the service. Waiter is making the cheese fondue and manages to spill the sauce, not once, not twice, not 3 times but 4 times. We were all cringing as expected to have hot molten cheese splattered on us. And then he doesn't even clean the mess up! Got our stingy little portions and afterwards he takes away the pot and STILL doesn't clean the mess up! So we had to look at this mess while eating the rest of our meal. Next up salads. Screws up the order and 2 of got the correct plates and my daughters were told he would be right back. The wife and are are finished with ours (over 10 minutes) and still the correct salads are not out for our daughters. After almost 15 minutes they arrived. The entrees are brought out and the little spiel about sauces (of which a tablespoon each is supposed to be OK for 4 of us) is rushed through. Half of the meat looks like it was left out overnight as the surfaces are dried up and disgusting looking. The daughter orders a different drink before the waiter leaves. After the main course is finished the daughters drink finally arrives. Wow, so impressive. Then dessert comes and of course he is one plate short so 3 of us are waiting around for 5 minutes before he comes out with the 4th plate. Dessert was good at least. Then I give him a Visa debit card worth $100 (ya know a present from Christmas) and another credit card to put the remainder on. He comes back and says that the debit card was declined, so he put it on the credit card. I ask him "Did you just put in $100 on the debit card or the whole amount?", er, uh, "the whole amount". So I asked him if he could do it the right way and sure enough it all worked out. Just pitiful. But considering you get $5 worth of meat for $40 I suppose it all works out great for the Melting Pot. We love going to Melting Pot for birthdays. It's a great place to have a longer dinner and socialize. Expect about 2.5 hours for the whole thing. This last visit we had great service but it hasn't been that way in the past. The food is consistently good. We always go for the four course experience. Our party of two had a terrible experience here. The service was so inattentive that we had to get up and walk around the restaurant to find our server three or four times during the meal. We had to remind our server that we had ordered drinks, and some items we ordered/requested were never brought to the table (a glass of wine, extra sauces, etc). I can't believe I actually paid for this! While I appreciate that I was able to take the chocolate fondue to go, every melting pot I've been to has the option to order take away dessert fondue. Normally when I travel , I get chocolate fondue take away. Never have I received such a disappointingly small portion and paid full price! Went here for Girls Night Out(which is offered only on Mondays) because everyone I've talked to said that the best items at TMP were the cheese fondue and the dessert, and that the entree is nothing special(takes a LONG time to cook the meat, for instance). Girls Night Out offers the cheese fondue, a salad, and dessert fondue for only $16 per person which is pretty darned reasonable, considering the price of a full meal(which can range from $80-90 per couple for all five courses). Specialty drinks are $5 this night, as well(although I wasn't in love with either of the two I tried). We had the Wisconsin Trio for the cheese, which was okay...but nothing fabulous. My friend said that they had the Cheddar Cheese last time, and it was lackluster. I had a nice salad, but nothing I couldn't do at home. We chose the Original chocolate for dessert(a mix of milk chocolate and peanut butter). This was good, but when ISN'T melted chocolate yummy? I do wish that they had given us more fresh fruit and less desserty-stuff to dip. It's not like the picture on the website where it's a heap of bright fruits. There were four small banana slices and about 2-3 strawberries sliced. The rest was pound cake, brownie, marshmallow, rice crispy treat, etc... All in all, it was a fun evening, but nothing overly-delicious. I would do Girls Night again mostly for female bonding time, and not the food. It's very social and people who have been here before get to feel like they're showing newbies something, which gives you something extra to chat about. However, it is no culinary feat by any means. Melt cheese + dipped bread = yummy. Melt chocolate + dipped marshmallow = yummy. Duh. I've been here for the discounted ladies night and a bachelorette party where they gave use a huge discount too. I can't imagine paying $80 for a couple here, but I guess people do. When folks pay full price for a full meal, the melting pot is laughing all the way to the bank. Extremely underwhelmed. I hated every aspect of it, from the ambience to the food to the price point. It's fondue/hot pot, so expect a lot of humidity from the steams coming off of every table top. Ventilation is poor. The decor is worn and outdated, and the booths are too closely stacked. As far as the fondue itself, there is nothing special. The cheese and chocolates are standard, nothing you can't easily reproduce at home. The entree portion are tiny. Ravioli is the size of my three year old's shopkin toy pieces. They were cute i guess, but when it's $50/entree? Not so cute. The flavor is palatable, but again nothing you can't accomplish at home. Dinner for two may easily end up costing over $100 not including drinks which is fine if it's more of a fine dining establishment and not a chain. I have much better time going to an asian hot pot paying only a small fraction of what melting pot charges. And i make that comparison because, let's be real, the melting pot is nothing fancy.
