Came to celebrate my partners birthday. They offered a birthday celebration package and some add ons. Honestly was pleasantly surprised by the decor, bottle of champagne service, roses, chocolates, and picture. Truly made his birthday a memorable one! It's been about a year since we last visited, and unfortunately, this experience was very different and honestly pretty disappointing. We went with some family and had a reservation, and we were seated fairly quickly once our entire party arrived. Since one person in our group is vegan, we decided to try the vegan menu. The menu listed the couples' vegan course at $89, with an additional charge per person. One of my sisters ordered a lemonade that was advertised as having unlimited refills, which she was really excited about. The service was relatively slow, especially considering the restaurant was almost empty when we arrived. The food itself tasted great, although the portions were pretty small. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. When my sister asked for a refill on her lemonade, the waitress asked if she wanted to try a different flavor. She said yes, but was not told that this would be treated as an entirely new $10 drink order. Had she known that, I don't think she would have agreed to it. We ended up being there for almost three hours, even though dessert was rushed toward the end. When we received the bill, there were several discrepancies. We were charged for additional drinks, including drinks that had been returned because members of our party didn't like them and ultimately didn't drink them. We were also charged about $30 more than the price listed on the menu for the vegan course. We pointed out the discrepancy in the vegan menu pricing to our waitress and mentioned that they may want to update the menu if the listed price was incorrect. She said she didn't know anything about it and would let her manager know. Unfortunately, there wasn't much acknowledgment or apology for the other billing issues either. By the end, we spent around $60 more than we had expected, with a minimum recommended tip of $80 on top of that. Overall bill totaled almost $500. Normally, I wouldn't mind spending more if the experience made it worthwhile, but between the slow service, unexpected charges, incorrect pricing, and lack of communication, this visit left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I really wanted to enjoy our visit, especially since we'd had a much better experience the last time we came, but unfortunately I don't think we'll be returning. Update: After our visit, my husband received a notification that we were being charged exactly $20 more than what we approved to pay at the restaurant. With all of the additional charges we were given we have no idea what they were charging us for. They did NOT provide a receipt or any option for us to have one emailed, texted or printed. How do we get her from the car to the dining table? We block traffic on the road to let her out onto the curb. She waits for the parking fiasco. We then learn that the restaurant's main entrance is accessible by a flight of stairs. But there is a note mentioning an elevator. After long walks, confusing, elevators, and more stairs, we arrive in the back of a dark outdated basement where they make us walk to the front of the restaurant to see the host and seat us in the back of the restaurant. Seven people. Two fondue pots. My post-pandemic, bad cold and flu season germophobe alarms are going off. The broth and oil are well above temperatures where most common germs survive. Are the chocolate and cheese really that hot on top? Did you know that you can use your fondue stick as a serving utensil rather than dipping and eating off the fondue stick like a monster? Then, you can set your food down on the plate without rubbing your fondue stick around in your germs on the plate. You can then use your own fork to consume the food. Hot tip, folks! Finally, remember that you've been invited to a fondue restaurant chain with no other options on the menu. It's all fondue. You cannot get your own individual meal. So if you are food sensitive or on a tight budget, you are not in for a treat. If you don't mind any of these things, of course it's good. Fondue is delicious. read more

Visited this establishment for the first time the other day. Wasn't sure what to expect other than a large helping of fondue and maybe a decent drink. Generally speaking, I was pleasantly surprised. The service was above average, and the flow of the courses was very good. I started with the cheese fondue that had bread and some veggies to dip. Even a few apple pieces! Second course was a choice of salad. Third course with the main one with broth and meat. And the final course was the chocolate fondue that I unfortunately did not have any room to enjoy. The drink list was pretty good, but I was disappointed that there weren't more local wines available to choose from. Beer choices on tap were solid and drink menu was more than suitable. Prices were definitely high and I would probably only come back if I plan my day around preparing my appetite to properly enjoy these expansive culinary courses. And I couldn't imagine coming alone... I would be done after the round of cheese dip! Parking is available on the street, but this isn't a particularly busy area of downtown. I admit that I am a sucker for cheese and chocolate fondue. It is a treat that I do with my bestie when we both end up in the same town at the same time. This was no different. We had both the spinach/artichoke fondue and the fiesta fondue, just to try something different. They were both good, but I really like the fiesta. Not only is the food phenomenal (I shed a tear over how good the salmon is), but the service is incredible. I have requested multiple servers who have provided a wonderful experience and it's always honored when possible. The ambience is very special. The underground vibe is spot on. I've always been intrigued by the Melting Pot restaurant, but never went. Friends would recommend it, or I would see the fancy signage leading you down a special staircase and always wonder+ - what is down there? The pandemic hit, and I became more apprehensive about downtown Portland. Last year I signed up for their loyalty rewards program, but still never went. This year my mother noticed a special on Groupon that was almost a buy one get one free offer for dinner there. It even included a glass of wine too. My mother also got a special coupon for 6 free chocolate covered strawberries as a birthday gift with signing up for their loyalty program too. You have to make a reservation a head of time so they can make your strawberries. It was easy though to organize that. Her strawberries were really nice - three different types and packaged to go. Retail value for this in itself was worth $20-30, but she got it for free during her birthday month. The portions were huge and it was a 4 course meal. Eating here is an Experience - definitely slot 2-3 hours for this. We had the cheese fondue which came with bread and apples. After the cheese fondue we had strawberry salads. Next we had the broth fondue. We did the surf and turf option which included salmon, shrimp, steak, and chicken - literally everything. Our dessert chocolate fondue came with a mini smorgasbord of toppings plus lots of dipping fruits and cake. Their signature chocolate fondue was in a ying yang shape so unique and beautiful. I loved this place so much. Would I change anything? - I wish it was in a brighter space - being in a basement level restaurant in Portland poses challenges. It's definitely a bit hard if you have mobility issues because you have to call the restaurant to let security open the office building above so you can use the elevator. We used the elevator on the way out. It's a hidden entrance. I wish they would move to the waterfront where McCormick and Schmicks used to be or to where the Bridgeport Village location used to be. Parking is a bit of a hassle too being downtown. I tried parallel parking beforehand and it's tricky because of traffic and narrow spots. It's much easier in the suburbs to park on the street. Be extra careful too with the fondue pots, they can be very hot and it's an immersive experience where you are the cook for a portion of the meal. Our server was fast, efficient, and had a fun sense of humor. Highly recommend. Loved this place. I definitely want to comeback in September around my birthday. Great food, great experience. Took a date and her 11 year old daughter here for the evening to enjoy a pleasant evening and the Melting Pot delivered. We got to have a leisurely four course dinner, got to enjoy sharing our plates and pieces, and overall had a wonderful evening. I could have used a few more drink refills and we didn't see our primary server as often as I'd expect, but he was pleasant and the other staff would assist as needed. But I did ask one young man who was manicuring our table if I could get a refill, and it was our server who returned with it. So i don't know. They were both eager to try dipping everything in hot chocolate sauce. Busy evening, but were seated relatively quickly. Seemed they may have been short staffed. Packed house, and service took longer than expected though not egregious. Ambiance was inline with all other melting pot locations. A little dark but they all are. Several meats that we enjoyed. The salads are all fresh and tasty. Very enjoyable. We chose to have the seafood and meat experience. Added a lobster tail. We had the bubbling and tasty Moho broth. All the sauces were very good. We enjoyed the experience and definitely had a great family time. The food was good and plentiful. We ended with the chocolate turtle fondue. We all enjoyed the chocolate and the goodies that came with it. Our family stayed several hours and had a very nice evening. As far as the extra money for the birthday party? I don't think it was worth it. Besides the streamers on the table, it really was nothing very special. I had to remind the manager about the picture which he moved us to the wine area for the picture. He only took one picture and it wasn't very good. My husband's whole head is behind me. Also, it would not print out at the location so he sent it to my phone with a folder to take home. It came with some chocolate wafers that we could make our own fondue at home. We had awful service. The restaurant is down in a basement and very dark, no one around. It took 2.5 hours to finish dinner. Waitress very slow. We mentioned our food was not cooking and she just told us to turn up the heat and never checked back with us. The steak was bad! I got the petit cut and it tasted like liver I could not eat it. The shrimp was rubbery. We were given very large quartered red potatoes and told to put them in the oil for at least 15 minutes they had not been pre-cooked at all, and they never cooked through. I did not eat any of my meat and sent it back. I was not offered anything and waitress never even asked about it. The chocolate tasted like it was Hershey's syrup poured into a pan for heating up. The cheese fondue tasted a little watery and you could really taste the wine in it and the bread that they provided was stale. The salad was wilted and I did not eat that either i've been to many melting pots throughout the Washington area and I've never had an experience this bad. read more

My wife and I recently went for the first time to the melting pot. We had heard for years how this is the best place and it's so delicious. Let me be the first to say it is not. To start, why of the restaurant has over 90% of its seats empty so we need to get a reservation? Yes that's right they made us put our names into the system and say when we would like to eat, at the place that was mostly empty. As my wife was getting that all set up I was looking at the decor. The display cases needed a dusting, the floor and walls really needed work. Also, not sure why they have wine bottles with flashing lights behind them. Really ruins the ambiance. After waiting for 5 minutes we were lead to our table. We ordered having looked at the menu online. Our food came out very quickly. We had the Wisconsin cheddar to start. The bread was stale and had the texture like it had been cut earlier in the morning and left out to get stale. The cheese was overly thick, not flavorful and really stringy like it needed a bit more milk to smooth out. We let it sit on the heater and stirred it as instructed by our server. Never got to a good fondue texture. Not super thrilled with this I ordered a salad with the raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Is it sad that for me the salad was the only good part of our meal? After that my wife wanted the chocolate fondue. She was thrilled with this and made her day. Overall our bill was over $100. I was severely disappointed that we had horrible food that's overpriced. I mean, COME ON!!! You're a fondue place. Shouldn't you have the best fondue? Not to mention that went from got home I spent a bit of time on the toilet sick from the food we did have. My boyfriend and I randomly decided to go to Melting Pot before a movie on February 20th and we were able to get a reservation immediately. Upon arriving, the staff was friendly and helpful, and there was only a short wait. Jamie was our server and was prompt and helpful when the tequila I requested was 86'd. It was a really pleasant visit with good quality ingredients and the drinks were tasty. (my boyfriend got a mocktail piña colada and I got a tequila with an orange slice with cinnamon). Jaime took very good care of us and helped us get in and out quickly, which was helpful because fondu is usually not considered "quick". So the service was A+. The only cons I can think of would be the vibe of the restaurant itself, it looks like it needs a new fresh coat of paint and some updating. Also, our waters didn't arrive until the drinks and food arrived (although, I am not sure if that was because we arrived at 8:15 and they stop seating at 9) and we thought the amount of cheese was a little small. Truly the worst restaurant experience I have had possibly ever. About 10 minutes before anyone greeted us. After being sat we waited a solid 20 minutes before getting our drink orders in. Another 25 minutes went by no drinks. They took 45 minutes for 6 drinks. We had to ask for the last martini that sat on the bar for 20 Minutes to be brought to us. We didn't even place our food order until being there for 50 minutes. Nobody is checking on us, filling waters doing anything normal servers do. Who is leading this team? Clearly nobody is because the service was non existent. Our server Rachel was so nice but truly what are these servers doing I only saw her when she took our first order and nothing the rest of the meal. I was impressed with everything at the Melting Pot, where we ate on Boxing Day 2023. Our local friend wanted to go, so we booked a reservation well in advance, probably a good thing as it was popping off! The service throughout was stellar, very friendly and helpful. I believe Chase was our server for the table, and he was wonderful. With my bariatric stomach, I had some concerns about the ordering process, but all went smoothly. We were not forced to order per numbers of people at the table, but in terms of portions, and by doing so, we managed to eat pretty much everything! We had something from each section, except salads. I don't know who wants a salad at a fondue place? We had plenty of vegetables and fruits, overall. Four of us ordered the Classic Cheese fondue, though the Sprossling wanted the spinach artichoke (next time, bud). We also ordered The Pacific Rim, the Classic, and the Garden. Finally, we finished with the Pure Chocolate Fondue in milk chocolate. They were superb at managing our gluten free needs for our guest, and are gluten free certified. My one 'issue' was the Pickle Martini, and it was not great. Not the fault of anyone! Just a little too 'salad dressing' and not enough umami for my taste. I think I thought there would be olives or some brine, like in a dirty martini, and as such, it was not for me. The restaurant is in a basement so there aren't any windows. There's only so much you can do to a commercial space basement restaurant. The air was infused with all manner of boiling broth aromas. It's fun to see stream rising from each table, everyone gathered around embracing the moment. The classic experience includes a cheese fondue starter, a salad, an entree and chocolate fondue dessert. For two, the classic experience is $119 with optional add-ons for a price. So know that you will be dropping some dough to dip that bread in cheese. Our server gave us cooking directions for all of it, and plenty of sauce to go around! Fun tip, the veggies are bottomless. We finished off the evening with a small chocolate fondue that was more than enough for all of us, and we ordered that with just fruit for dipping which was great after such a big meal. You boil your own food. For the cost, I was highly disappointed. All your meats come seasoned but after boiling each piece, the flavor is gone and the steak comes out tough. The cheese appetizer was good, but cost a lot for the type of Sevice received. The location is also tough if you plan to bring anyone elderly or in a wheelchair as the restaurant is located in the basement. You will need to call the resturant and have someone come up to give you access to the top buildings elevator. What a wonderful experience this was! This was my first time in this type of restaurant. I loved the decor and the location. I also lived that I had no phone reception and that I could be present with the people that I had come here with. Our waitress was amazing. Fascination use of below the streets in Portland. Stairs are the main entrance but there is an elevator if needed. Same day reservations are available. Side note : this location did the cheese course different from others we have been to. Usually it is brought out and prepared in front of you, allowing for chit chat, but here it was already done when it arrived. read more
