This spot has been getting a lot of buzz around Dallas lately, but in my opinion it is a little overpriced. Appetizers: GUACAMOLE DIVORCIADO ($16): avocado, tomato, white onions, cilantro, serrano, tortilla chips - quite a small portion for the price in my opinion, but I loved how citrusy the guac was. AGUACHILE DE RIBEYE ($26): seared american wagyu ribeye cap, avocado, citrus, onions, radish, cilantro, truffle oil - honestly this was my favorite thing we had. If I was to come back it might just be to get this appetizer and some drinks. Entrees: SALMON PIQUÍN ($44): ora king salmon, lime rice, grilled asparagus, mostaza piquín sauce (Dijon mustard based sauce) - a solid meal but not worth the price tag. I understand this restaurant doesn't specialize in fish but I just wish the overall quality as a bit higher for the price. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. The parking situation is less than ideal for who a girly who likes to self park, as it is valet only (tips encouraged). All in all if you've really been wanting to try this spot out it would be great for a birthday or anniversary celebration as it is an elevated dining experience. read more

After saying I won't go back a while ago, the owner reached out and asked me to give them another try. This time around, my friend and I had a much better experience! Ordered the Jumbo Scallops and Camarones, Filet and Bone Marrow Tacos, La Colada, and for dessert, got the Cuatro Leches. Everything tasted absolutely delicious - so flavorful and the entrées were cooked perfectly. Service was also fabulous! Hey guys, haven't reviewed in a long time but its time for some reviews, I wanted to share my experience over at "The Mexican" for a pre birthday celebration for my wife, let me tell you the restaurant is nice, the atmosphere is nice and the waiters are friendly, to start with lets chat about to get with the food served, starting with the complimentary salsa and chips i love how they bring over different versions of their salsa from Mild to Hot served with house made chips to go with my wife and I ordered the Aguachille not sure if I misspelled it but it was a serving for one each as they served two of them along with that we ordered the guacamole, the guacamole could definitely use some improvements with a simple touch of salt and pepper perhaps a little lime too. After enjoying our appetizers we awaited for the main course where my wife had to sea bass and I ordered the lobster enchiladas with a side of their lime rice. The sea bass was phenomenal but I was disappointed on the enchiladas, while I was enjoying my dinner my mouth discomforted itself as my tooth chipped by biting into the shell of the lobster which was not expected to me at all, while I brought it over to the host they took the dish back immediately and showed the chef about the rock hard shell that chipped my tooth. Its the first time that has ever happened to me so I let it slide until one of the supervisors on site approaches me and says may I see the chipped tooth if you happen to have a piece of it. To be honest Im still thrown away from being asked that why would I carry a piece of my chipped tooth that absolutely ridiculous, I wasn't expecting that from them. One of the other supervisors approached me with some documentations for insurance purposes but yet didn't allow me to read it nor provided me copies of it. The where nice to take a portion of the bill and cover our entree but I wasn't looking for any sort of compensation. We come from a very respectful family and we aren't any freeloaders. Very offensive to ask me for my chipped tooth. Will I go there again perhaps not. I was told i'd be expecting a call from their said HR department but nothing as of yet Oh well! I guess as most people find a way to do a lawsuit perhaps I found mine. read more

Sorry, I don't remember her name but she was very nice and attentive. The drinks were good and fast. Drinks started at about $18 ea. The Mexican is over-priced just to be over-priced (dinner for four with two drinks each coming out to $476 before tip). Let's start with the food. Although high-priced, hands down the food hit the mark. Every dish we ordered was exquisite, unique, and tasted phenomenal, from the crispy pork belly to the scallops and camarones. The ambience was on point, exactly what I would have expected...it felt very exclusive and boujee. However, the service had much to be desired. If I'm paying a super premium, I'm expecting service to match, but this was not the case at The Mexican. 1) The server came by so infrequently that my friend ran out of water and finally had to drink my water since no refill came. 2) When my friend ordered a drink, it never came out and had to be reordered. 3) When we asked to split the check three ways, the server said it is not possible...really? 4) The icing on the cake...we were celebrating my friend's birthday and we discretely told the server. No questions asked, we got the dessert with a candle...along with the dessert automatically added to the bill...nice. These service gaps would be fine at a normal restaurant with normal prices but this is not a normal restaurant with normal prices. For the price paid, I expected observant and attentive service actively working to make their guests feel special. As you can see, the service did not live up to these expectations during my visit. read more

The Mexican is one of just a few high end restaurants that I never even think about the cost- it's been well worth it every time. Most high end restaurants don't really win me over, not quite justifying the price tag- The Mexican does. It's one of my favorite Dallas restaurants, and unfortunately there is nothing I can think of to complain about - at all. The chips which come out quickly are the best I can recall anywhere. Good enough to be the first thing I thought about in this review days after we ate there. They come with 5 kinds of salsa of different levels of spicy. It's tough to stop. My favorite appetizer is the Chicharron de pulpo - fried octopus that comes with guacamole (which you can get alone as a larger appetizer) hate cilantro and the staff were glad to withhold it for me. Desserts we've tried include ice cream cake and Quattro leche cake. Both are sizable and delicious, the latter being my favorite- and it is just as good next day. For mains I've had steaks (filet and cowboy ribeye). I'd put either up against most steakhouses I've eaten at in the area. Manchego whipped potatoes are a great compliment to just about everything. Parmesan truffle fries are likewise delicious. Service has been truly outstanding in every visit. Fast, attentive without being in your face, accommodating, and they always seem to get it right. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at THE MEXICAN! My friends and I, a group of six celebrating a birthday, were turned away at the door because I was dressed "too revealing." I was so disappointed because meanwhile there's multiple women wearing the exact outfit style as myself! Dress shorts with a little top on or a crop top! BUT YET MY OUTFIT WAS DEEMED REVEALING IN THEIR DRESS CODE BOOK?"" However, it became clear that the real issue wasn't my outfit--it was the fact that we were a group of Mexican individuals. Keep in mind I've worn other outfits here prior with a different group of people and we have had no issue getting sat and that was 2 weeks prior then compared to how my visit went yesterday 12/13/24 Upon arrival, we were told that the restaurant had a "dress code," but this felt like a poor excuse for something much deeper The hostess herself had full tattoos showing but they wanted to tell me I was revealing????. There were other patrons inside who were dressed in casual and, in some cases, less formal attire than me or actually wearing the SAME outfit!!!!!. It became obvious that the reason we were turned away was not about the dress code but because of our ethnicity. We felt unwelcome and disrespected, and it's heartbreaking to see such blatant discrimination in this day and age. We came to celebrate a special occasion, and instead, we were made to feel like outsiders! Disappointing to see that a restaurant called THE MEXICAN won't even sit MEXICANS AT IT? For THEIR OVERPRICED enchiladas?? Like let's be honest here we're not a prime restaurant this is way off that! I would not recommend this place to anyone who values inclusivity and respect. I was told I couldn't come in because I was "showing too much skin" when I was fully clothed--yet white girls walked in with their titties out, mini skirts, mini dresses, and spaghetti straps. My arms were covered, I had on jeans and boots, and the only thing showing was a small dip in the front of my shirt. But somehow, that was "too much skin." Then the so-called manager had the nerve to ask if I had read the dress code. I have--multiple times--because I've been to this restaurant before, and I was not violating it. Even the host's expression didn't align with what he was saying; she looked just as confused as I was. It's clear this Mexican restaurant is catering to a specific demographic now, and it's highly disappointing. I do not recommend and will not be returning. What's even more baffling is that this isn't a Michelin-starred restaurant, nor is it upscale. Relax before you end up out of business like all the other restaurants that could barely survive in Dallas. TERRIBLE SERVICE... And when I say terrible, I mean just that!!! The ambience was amazing and the food was great; however, what was supposed to be a romantic evening was quickly ruined by the negative service from our waitress!!! She was impatient, rude, and hard to track down at times. Admittedly, this was our first time at the restaurant, which my husband was looking forward to a great deal. Initially, we were undecided on a few menu items, which caused us to take a second look--clearly longer than the waitress would've liked, as she became visibly frustrated. She threw her hands up in the air, said, "Take your time," and then walked off--all at the same time! We considered ordering a variety of different appetizers, but our waitress became impatient again, as she seemed to determine that we couldn't make up our minds in less than 30 seconds. We ended up choosing two appetizers, one of which we didn't care for but didn't want to deal with the angry waitress. Finally, when it came time to order dinner, I asked the waitress repeatedly if there were any peppers in the dish. She adamantly said no. I asked her again in a different manner, and once more she confirmed no. If you're reading this review, you guessed it: not only was the dish filled with peppers, but the peppers were actually in the sauce, which caused me to have an allergic reaction! My husband had to get up and go find the waitress, who ridiculously came over even more irritated. She had the nerve to say, and I quote, "I can't imagine what you are allergic to. There are no peppers in here!" We asked her to take the dish back and confirm with the chef that there were no peppers. She eventually returned and confirmed that the peppers were, in fact, in the sauce, which covered the entire dish. You would think she would apologize, but of course, she did not! I believe the restaurant has some potential, but please consider this review as a warning to choose a restaurant that will listen when you express that you have allergies and take your health and safety seriously. read more

One of My Favorite restaurant to go to... The Food is Great just too bad their customer service sucks! We went last night, got there about 8:00 pm (No Reservation) I know, it's Saturday night and one of their busiest nights. The host were rude (I am not saying that because they couldn't seat us) They don't make you feel welcoming and just rude. Host told us if we wanted to wait there will be a 4 hour wait; I said ok we will wait.. we will hang out at bar and I'm assuming they will eventually call us... Today is Sunday 4:44 pm and they still haven't reached out about our table... I get it, they were swamped! We sat at Bar and Bartender was very welcoming served us food and some drinks.. We stayed there til about 11:30 and anywhere between 9:30 and 10:00 there were plenty of tables available but no one reached out to me (still haven't) yes, I made sure I gave her my number twice... Another thing, their website states Dress Code Policy is : T-shirts with graphics, baseball hats, athletic wear, hoodies, and sweatpants are not permitted...I saw several guys with baseball caps and there was also a couple at bar dressed with regular T-shirts and Sweatpants. My food was a bit cold, but I didn't want to send it back since we had already waited. I've definitely had better espresso, but it was strong at least. My husband liked the margarita. Several of our friends had said this place was amazing, and they were right. The food is fantastic and the service was great. There's definitely a good vibe at the bar, and we were there on a Wednesday night. The menu is full of options, including steaks, tacos, traditional Mexican, fare, and some incredible desserts. For an appetizer, I highly recommend the queso fundido, which is finished tableside. They also have a great cocktail menu, including some exceptional margaritas. We had a party of four, and everyone loved what they ordered. I had the bone marrow and filet tacos which were unique and delicious. A word of advice, though, wear pants. A gem of uniqueness in Mexican inspiration! Located in Turtle Creek, this charming restaurant offers great indoor and outdoor seating. Service is superb. The cocktails are so unique and flavorful I had two! The wine list? Well we went to the Valle de Guadalupe with a Cab/Nebbiolo which was superb. The menu is about as unique as you'll see with Mexican classics elevated to a new level. We had bone marrow, excellent steak and lobster enchiladas to die for. Made us feel like we needed to dress for a formal. I came from work in a suit, removed my tie. My wife wore a beautiful leather dress. Where do I start? I want to love this place for several reasons, but the most important are the food and the service their servers offer. But yesterday, we had a very interesting experience there. I had reserved a table in the dining room for 5 people. Unfortunately, I was late but my party was there. We were celebrating my friend's bday. All of us adhered to the dress code but when I got there, I noticed we were placed in the patio. When I inquired about it with the hostess she said that's where I had made the reservation, which is incorrect, see picture below. One of my friends overheard an employee who told her when she was walking in that she would probably be placed in the patio. I understand the importance of dress code, but being "selective" about which guests to place in what area based upon their "looks" it's incomprehensible. I hope that they improve this practice, as everyone deserves the same experience they are all paying for. Other than that, kudos to Bryan for being a great server to us. read more

Bit the bullet and decided to come back and celebrate our anniversary, and we were pleasantly surprised and loved everything! Here's some highlights: Chicharrón de Pulpo: 9/10 Something about the combination of crispy octopus in a warm, soft, homemade tortilla lead our dinner to a strong start! Del Mar Enchilada Trio: 10/10 Our server recommended this dish and I'm glad she did because i couldn't make a decision on the menu. The plate included 3 enchiladas each picked with shrimp, king crab, and lobster. They were all packed with flavor and I couldn't choose a favorite. (not pictured) Campechana: 10/10 I wanted to try this dessert the last time I visited but they were out of it. I'm soo glad I finally got to try it! It's essentially eating a sweet flaky pastry with ice cream sandwiched between with pistachios and cajeta. Probably my favorite of the night. Did I mention it was huuuge?! Can definitely be split between 4 ppl. Awesome service as usual, I wish i remembered my server's name so i can give her a shout out. I truly had great expectations. When I think high scale Mexican restaurant, I think of GREAT Mexican food, authentic and flavorful. What I got was sub-par Tex-Mex in a city filled with fantastic Tex-Mex options. The guacamole was nothing exciting, typically I eat it all, but instead I left it to the side. The steak tacos were nothing to write home about either: plain, bland and unappealing. I LOVE tacos and of the three on my plate, I ate one. ONE! The drinks were weak, After one cocktail I opted to stick with water, because why would I keep paying $18 for juice!?! They sent us an email stating dress code requirements, which I'm all for in an upscale establishment, but we saw a few people who clearly did not match those expectations. The interior is nice, but noisy. We sat butted up against the bar side of the restaurant and I now know way too much about the lady seated behind me at the bar because of how the sound traveled right to our table. The service started well, but as the place got busy we were left there trying to pay the bill. This was not our servers fault, he had several tables and a party of 10, but it was frustrating. Finally, the poor valet were struggling to keep up with people coming and leaving. So needless to say this is not my goto in the Design District, plenty of other options to choose from. read more

I wanted to share about the disappointing and quite jarring experience that I had at The Mexican on Saturday, August 30 for a 7:00 pm reservation celebrating a milestone birthday. The first glaring issue was that one of the servers for our group, served the wrong person a wine order meant for myself. While giving me the person who was incorrectly served. Due to the mix up the other individual unbeknownst to them drank the wine and once we noticed the error we asked the wait staff to bring me what I'd ordered and to give that individual what they'd poured as it was rightfully theirs. At this point the wait staff went and removed the wine that was already sipped out of and stated they would bring me what I'd ordered and dispose of what was already sipped out of. I and 2 others in the party immediately objected, citing that the error was on the wait staff and second it's inappropriate to take that glass of wine. Just leave it for her to finish drinking and make the correction on their end. The wait staff refused. I was flabbergasted at this as I've eaten at world class restaurants globally and have never witnessed the patron being made responsible for the error of the restaurant wait staff. The final straw of the night was when the wait staff told his to "hurry up" and get up from the table because there were other parties waiting to be seated. After spending 671.96 for our meal and to be spoken to this way I realized that this restaurant is not one that maintains a high level of service and should not be frequented by consumers who are looking to celebrate with a nice meal. This was extremely disappointing experiencing this during my final night of my visit to Dallas. What I do know is I am informing my circle of friends and family as well as work colleagues not to dine here given the horrible service myself and lack of professionalism we experienced. read more

When I made the reservation on Open Table I did select "anniversary" but that doesn't mean the restaurant will always acknowledge the celebration. They greeted us with champagne and a card. Was here in 2022 and again 2024. Drinks were great with good presentation but food was okay. There was complimentary chips and sauce which was delicious! The beef taretare was tasty. Everything else was okay. I had to use the sauces from the chips and add them to my bone marrow tacos as it was lacking in flavor. Good ambiance and the female restroom was beautiful. The tres leches cake was delicious. Servers had good personality except it took them a while to bring out the check. Highly recommend making a reservation as it gets packed.
