Where do I start? I want to love this place for several reasons, but the most important are the food and the service their servers offer. But yesterday, we had a very interesting experience there. I had reserved a table in the dining room for 5 people. Unfortunately, I was late but my party was there. We were celebrating my friend's bday. All of us adhered to the dress code but when I got there, I noticed we were placed in the patio. When I inquired about it with the hostess she said that's where I had made the reservation, which is incorrect, see picture below. One of my friends overheard an employee who told her when she was walking in that she would probably be placed in the patio. I understand the importance of dress code, but being "selective" about which guests to place in what area based upon their "looks" it's incomprehensible. I hope that they improve this practice, as everyone deserves the same experience they are all paying for. Other than that, kudos to Bryan for being a great server to us. read more

Bit the bullet and decided to come back and celebrate our anniversary, and we were pleasantly surprised and loved everything! Here's some highlights: Chicharrón de Pulpo: 9/10 Something about the combination of crispy octopus in a warm, soft, homemade tortilla lead our dinner to a strong start! Del Mar Enchilada Trio: 10/10 Our server recommended this dish and I'm glad she did because i couldn't make a decision on the menu. The plate included 3 enchiladas each picked with shrimp, king crab, and lobster. They were all packed with flavor and I couldn't choose a favorite. (not pictured) Campechana: 10/10 I wanted to try this dessert the last time I visited but they were out of it. I'm soo glad I finally got to try it! It's essentially eating a sweet flaky pastry with ice cream sandwiched between with pistachios and cajeta. Probably my favorite of the night. Did I mention it was huuuge?! Can definitely be split between 4 ppl. Awesome service as usual, I wish i remembered my server's name so i can give her a shout out. Was here in 2022 and again 2024. Drinks were great with good presentation but food was okay. There was complimentary chips and sauce which was delicious! The beef taretare was tasty. Everything else was okay. I had to use the sauces from the chips and add them to my bone marrow tacos as it was lacking in flavor. Good ambiance and the female restroom was beautiful. The tres leches cake was delicious. Servers had good personality except it took them a while to bring out the check. Highly recommend making a reservation as it gets packed. I truly had great expectations. When I think high scale Mexican restaurant, I think of GREAT Mexican food, authentic and flavorful. What I got was sub-par Tex-Mex in a city filled with fantastic Tex-Mex options. The guacamole was nothing exciting, typically I eat it all, but instead I left it to the side. The steak tacos were nothing to write home about either: plain, bland and unappealing. I LOVE tacos and of the three on my plate, I ate one. ONE! The drinks were weak, After one cocktail I opted to stick with water, because why would I keep paying $18 for juice!?! They sent us an email stating dress code requirements, which I'm all for in an upscale establishment, but we saw a few people who clearly did not match those expectations. The interior is nice, but noisy. We sat butted up against the bar side of the restaurant and I now know way too much about the lady seated behind me at the bar because of how the sound traveled right to our table. The service started well, but as the place got busy we were left there trying to pay the bill. This was not our servers fault, he had several tables and a party of 10, but it was frustrating. Finally, the poor valet were struggling to keep up with people coming and leaving. So needless to say this is not my goto in the Design District, plenty of other options to choose from. read more

Since I didn't have a reso I sat at the bar. I was greeted by Daniel the bartender, which he provided excellent service. I told him I wasn't to hungry and wanted something light. He recommended the sea bass ceviche. The ceviche was amazing. It was fresh, light and very tasty. Everything was perfectly measure. I was told to mix it all up to get a perfect bite every time. So I followed instructions and oh man so good!! They had a great selection of Tequilas and Mezcals. I wish I had a bigger appetite to try more food. I wanted to share about the disappointing and quite jarring experience that I had at The Mexican on Saturday, August 30 for a 7:00 pm reservation celebrating a milestone birthday. The first glaring issue was that one of the servers for our group, served the wrong person a wine order meant for myself. While giving me the person who was incorrectly served. Due to the mix up the other individual unbeknownst to them drank the wine and once we noticed the error we asked the wait staff to bring me what I'd ordered and to give that individual what they'd poured as it was rightfully theirs. At this point the wait staff went and removed the wine that was already sipped out of and stated they would bring me what I'd ordered and dispose of what was already sipped out of. I and 2 others in the party immediately objected, citing that the error was on the wait staff and second it's inappropriate to take that glass of wine. Just leave it for her to finish drinking and make the correction on their end. The wait staff refused. I was flabbergasted at this as I've eaten at world class restaurants globally and have never witnessed the patron being made responsible for the error of the restaurant wait staff. The final straw of the night was when the wait staff told his to "hurry up" and get up from the table because there were other parties waiting to be seated. After spending 671.96 for our meal and to be spoken to this way I realized that this restaurant is not one that maintains a high level of service and should not be frequented by consumers who are looking to celebrate with a nice meal. This was extremely disappointing experiencing this during my final night of my visit to Dallas. What I do know is I am informing my circle of friends and family as well as work colleagues not to dine here given the horrible service myself and lack of professionalism we experienced. read more

Look, I love fancy Mexican food as much as the next person but what you pay here for what you get in food is a bit over the top. I paid $40 for two enchiladas made with chicken with NO rice and beans. That's a bit excessive! Now the cocktails and salsas were phenomenal but that's why I gave it a 3 not a 1 star. I love this place and can't wait to go back to taste everything! The service is great, from the host to the servers and their professionalism. I loved the salsa flight and the salsas were masterful, so good and just as they should be. I had the surf and turf tacos and was impressed with the restraint of the cook, and the taste was wonderful. 3.5 stars. 4 is too generous and 3 too conservative. We stopped in at the bar. It's a beautiful one at that. Service was good. We had cocktails, queso fundido, tres leches and all of it was excellent. What brought the rating down is the incredibly loud club music that made it almost impossible to talk. No, this is not a reflection of my age :) but a practical comment on this being a dining establishment. I asked the bar tender if that was normal, also said that it makes hearing orders difficult. The Mexican really hit it out of the park for my graduation dinner. We called ahead and informed the host that we would be 1 hour early - seated immediately when we arrived. Valet was super convenient. The ambiance and decor and just gorgeous. We started with 2 frozen margaritas and the lobster elote. The margaritas were strong - loved them. The lobster elote wasn't like anything I've had before. Let's not forget the chips and 6 types of salsas - wow. I've never had a high-end Mexican cuisine experience, so this was special. We both had the enchiladas. I had the king crab and I admittedly forget what my dad had, but we savored those dishes. Everything that hit the table was just very thoughtfully created, and it was a really nice experience. The waiter was also very knowledgeable about which dishes contained gluten (I am celiac). At the end of the meal, we were too full of delicious food for desert - but they brought us champagne for my special occasion. I will definitely be back to The Mexican on other occasions. I am in Dallas for work and this place was within walking distance from my hotel. I was able to sit immediately at the bar without a reservation. Felix was friendly, attentive, a good conversationalist and happy to recommend menu items. I had a Pequeña Belleza (delicious pineapple cocktail) the Aguachile de Ribeye and later the Hamachi Sashimi. The ribeye was buried under a blanket of cilantro, which I personally didn't mind, but I could see it turning off some people. The sashimi was very spicy! I felt his passion towards their food as he thoroughly described menu items. I appreciated how food came out in a timely manner, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed everything I ate. The restaurant offered 5 complimentary salsas that varied by pepper type, spiciness, etc. Each salsa was unique in its own way. The appetizers were totally fine. We had several things to share including the Aguachile de Ribeye, Guacamole Divorciado, and Hamachi Sashimi. I had the Filet and Bone Marrow tacos as my entree, and I can go as far as saying that it was probably the most decadent tacos I've ever had. The bone marrow added so much richness and umami to the flavor of the steak. We had a couple of desserts including the Quatros Leches and Chocolate Y Pepitas. I'm a huge fan of tres leches, so naturally I had to find out what the one upper tasted like. The dessert was sweet as expected, but the texture of the cake was divine. I could slice my spoon to the cake like a knife through butter. I couldn't tell you what the 4th milk was, and now I wish I would have asked! Lastly, I enjoyed the cocktails I tried. The sea bass ceviche was to die for (no pic sorry )Seriously , get that . I had the bone marrow tacos which were really juicy and good but I really wanted to scrape the meat out of the bone marrow . The food is upscale and creative but not in a "trying too hard" kind of way, just in a "I'm taking these delicious leftovers home" kind of way. This rating is only for the salsa and drinks that I had at the bar. We got the guac, and I guess when you order food they give you these salsas. The guac was just ok, but the middle salsa was so good that we got some to go. I got one of their margaritas (something fresca) it was ok. They I had the pepino Perfecto which I really liked. There were 2 more drinks I want to taste, so I'll return. We went on a Wednesday night at 8:30. It was packed! I don't know when or if they have a slow day. The bar was extremely busy. Well to begin with the hostesses are rude and have a horrible attitude. My girlfriend and I after having both worked a 10 hour day wanted a relaxing girls night dinner. We arrived for our reservation and were seated in the loud bar area where the music precluded any conversation. She objected and said our reservation wasn't for the bar area and asked to be seated in the quieter dining room. The hostess attempted to seat us elsewhere in the bar area claiming that a private event was being held and there was no dining room seating. We decided to leave. As we waited for the valet the manager Candace rushed out and asked us what happened and my friend explained the situation. The manager apologized and said she absolutely could and would seat us in the dining room. Upon being seated we realized there were maybe 10 open tables in that room and no large event was being held. My friend is black and felt that had some bearing on the treatment of the hostesses. Our waitress was phenomenal and knowledgeable of both the drink and the food aspects of the menu. We had a lovely dinner and the manager checked on us several times and sent us an amazing dessert with dessert cocktails as an apology. For a $250 dinner I felt like the enchiladas which were served alone could have been accompanied with rice or beans or veggies etc. but the food and drinks were delicious. I doubt we will go back after how unprofessional the hostesses were. But the rest of the staff was great and the food was also very good. The hostesses though- nasty and really tainted the overall experience. Since it was our first visit I can't imagine returning to encounter them again. Hostesses are the first impression a guest gets from the restaurant and they have a lot of power to set the tone for the guest experience. It's too bad the hostess team is so awful. read more

We loved the ambiance of the restaurant, nice and dark but it was a little noisy. Great photo ops The food was good, we shared crispy pork belly tacos with some salad. Only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because I asked for the Caesar salad but I got the chopped salad instead. The place is pretty loud with the music and everyone talking so it's not the best place to go if you're looking for a quiet setting. I ordered the oysters for a starter. Absolutely DELICIOUS! The oysters tasted fresh and the sauces provided complimented them perfectly. For dinner I has the Spinali (American wagyu steak) and the lobster ellote. My steak was cooked perfectly! the waiter pulled out a flashlight to ensure it was cooked medium... what?! I love it here! The lobster ellote was different and delicious as well.
