We've lived in the area for awhile now and finally went here - can't believe it took us so long! The Christmas decor was amazing. You walk in and there's just an explosion of color and festivity, it was so welcoming. Our server, Lacie, was so nice and recommended some of the more popular dishes. I ended up choosing the Carnitas which came with fresh flour tortillas, rice, refried beans, and a salad! It was absolutely delicious. My friends got lobster enchiladas and a chicken quesadilla. And although I had two waiters plus the server that actually brought my plate out... I have to say I was never checked on For refills or if everything was OK. Ok, so I'm not sure what all the negative reviews are about. Yes, there was a wait. I was told 45 minutes for our party of 5, we only waited 40. Pretty good start in my opinion. The parking lot comments seem very off base as well. There wasn't much seating left in the enormous lobby since there were so many people waiting but there was still plenty of parking. Now for the service. Kid was young. Like high school young. But he did a good job, thanks Isaiah. "A" for effort no question. Remember, this place literally just opened and still isn't at full capacity or full staff. As for the facility, beautiful. And huge. Parking will be an issue when they're 100% open; I've never seen a restaurant this size before. Can't give 5 stars because while the food was good, it didn't blow me away. This cafe is pretty incredible. It's spacious with beautiful decor. We started off with a house margarita and a paloma. Both were potent and not overly sweet. Since it was the weekend, we were offered menudo as a side option. The tripe was so tender, and it had the perfect amount of hominy. The broth was tasty but a tad salty. Overall, it was very good. My fajitas were delicious and packed with meat and peppers. I really love the way they season the carne asada. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the rice and beans were authentic. The portions were massive. We filled our bellies and had plenty of leftovers. Service was stellar. We asked our waitress for spicier salsa, and she brought out some fantastic habanero and jalapeño varieties. Prices are on the moderate to high end but definitely worth the splurge! I have been at this location a few times when visiting family but I have been going to the original in San Bernardino for about 5 or 7 years..this review is ONLY for the Temecula location.. Our daughter and son in law and grandsons frequent this location regularly ..when our daughter was there a few weeks ago she found out about their event room and made reservations...we wanted just a small private celebration for our family only and this room was perfect. Thank you, Thank you ,Thank you...for making my husband's Celebration of life yesterday perfect. We had our immediate family there and the private room and since we could close the doors it was perfect for our little ones to attend too and have some area for them so we could all relax. The space was pretty quiet and plenty of room for our family of 15. The service was so good our waitress Lauren and other staff who took care of our party was calm.. nice and very respectful to us. The food was good as it usually is with plenty of chips and salsa to begin to apps and main course..we never had to ask for 1 thing the whole time water .. drinks extra napkins ..nothing they were there and ready for us.. We brought a bluetooth speaker and our son played many of his favorite songs. The lobby is beautiful we enjoyed taking family photos before leaving there and the little festive nook they have near the lobby area. My husband is a native born Southern Californian of full Mexican descent so having it here at a family run Mexican Restaurant was a salute to him and his heritage in celebration. Let's start with the decor. I am definitely an over the top Christmas decorator and this place was fabulous! Christmas everywhere you look! I loved it! Service was fast and friendly. My boyfriend loves his chips a little on the salty side and these were on point. I went in there wanting specifically to get their Carne Asada fries, but quickly changed my mind and got the California burrito. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada tacos. OH MY WORD. Let me just say that burrito was amazing and if we had had a wheel barrel to carry my butt out of there I would have eaten the whole thing. Great and large beautiful place for amazing Mexican food and service. We always drove by but never thought to try it. Our typical go to spots are your hole in the wall Mexican spots that make Abuelas and abuelo recipes. My son loves his large California burritos, the chicken fajitas were enough for two and were tasty. I had the Chile Rellenos plate for was okay but in my honest opinion I think it had too much batter I tasted more batter than the Rellenos. So I just cut through the batter for my tastiness. This is the second year the Women's Guild from St. Catherine's of Alexandria has celebrated our annual Christmas luncheon. We have held our luncheon in the "Valor" room which accommodates 65-100 people. The restaurant is decorated BEAUTIFULLY FOR CHRISTMAS. We had a Buffett lunch which was delicious, hot, plentiful. I can't believe my family and I have not gone to the Mexico Cafe all these years passing by it to go Pechanga Casino and Resort! Most likely it's the timing. However, on 5/24/25 (Saturday), we left early to avoid the traffic on the 91 and 15 frwys and wanted to eat before heading to Pechanga. So I said...let's go to the Mexican restaurant we keep passing but never went to. Omg! Where shall I start? First, the building from outside always caught my attention on how beautiful and large it is. Next, there is ample parking, unlike other places where you have to drive in circles before finding a spot. Next, once you enter the restaurant, it looks like you entered a beautiful palace rich with history and style. The foyer is beautifully decorated for Memorial weekend, there are lots of seating to wait for your table but we didn't have to wait at all. The dining tables are spaced so far that you feel like you are in a VIP seating area. There are other eating areas, but we were in the main dining room. The staff was so professional beginning from the hostess to our waitress, Maria, and the young man who was giving us chips and clearing our dishes. Last but not least...the food was delicious! To start, they gave us warm tortilla chips and salsa! We had to ask for more because it was that good! There was so much to choose from but we had no choice but to pick only what we could finish since we were staying overnight at Pechanga and had no room to store the food in the tiny fridge space. My husband had the Deluxe burrito. I had to taste it because he said it was seasoned so differently. Wow! He was right! It's the best tasting burrito he and I ever had. The meat was seasoned so uniquely and was very tender as if it was slow-cooked for many hours. I ordered the enchiladas langosta because I love lobster and it was delicious as well! Usually other places chop little crawfish into pieces instead of adding real lobster, or they add the meat from the lobster claw. However, at Mexico Cafe, they add actual lobster tail! My son had the chorizo burrito and he said it was very tasty! Last but not least...the brownie with dulce de leche ice cream and whip cream was a perfect ending to an awesome meal! Would we go here again? Heck yeah! LOL! We live in Orange County but we will remember to stop by each time we go to or leave from Pechanga. We can't wait to try out other food items, but also see the other decorations they display throughout the year. read more

We went to the buffet brunch on a Sunday a few months ago and liked the food. The enchiladas were great, the albondigas soup was wonderful. We decided to take a family to lunch on Monday. It was like a completely different restaurant experience. The food was atrocious. The refried beans gloppy, the rice, dry. The chili rellanos were not homemade....they were the frozen kind and had no sauce on them whatsoever. They were made from canned strips of chilis and the batter was cake like and dry. I sent them back. The chicken enchiladas which were great at the buffet were completely different. They were made of canned chicken. I was so embarrassed bringing our family here. The waitress ignored us mostly and no one bussed our table. We sat talking over our plates and debris feeling very neglected. We will never return again. We don't understand how the buffet food was completely different from their weekday menu. read more

This place comes highly recommended by my coworkers so we went to check it out. Impressive Staff. Servers were dressed impeccably for Halloween and quite fun. They were very warm and friendly! The restaurant is decorated very nicely for Halloween, airy and spacious. We were given chips & salsa while browsing through the menu. They have a large selection of Margaritas and they do have Margarita flights. Although everything was nice, there was one highly concerning incident. Asked for a glass of water, and my son took a sip. He asked if I drank from it - I said no. There was a thick slob of full-on lipstick stain on the glass. Just gross and disgusting. Questioning if controls are being done and followed to test sanitizing process, according to Riverside County Regulation Codes. Were they using the right water temperature to sanitize? Dishwashing solutions are per MFU guidelines? Refer to California Retail Food Code 114099.3 (e) (1) (A) (B). I am an Infection Control professional by trade and this is not acceptable. I get it that stuff happens, but this is no excuse to cross-contaminate and potentially transmit diseases. Although the food presentation was nice, it was not authentic. Or maybe we just lost our appetite after that. I am unsure if the server addressed this issue with the Kitchen Staff. I would've gladly discussed this with the Manager, but no one came to our table to address it. read more

Came in right before happy hour (literally 15 mins before)- waitress showed us how she input our order (not even correctly) before happy hour started so we did not receive the discounts. Then she claimed she couldn't "cheat the system". The drinks didn't hit our table until after happy hour started- makes you think they don't want to actually honor their discounts. Won't be back. Ate here 7/9/25 for the second time. We aren't locals. Restaurant is light and airy, clean, beautifully decorated in a Mexican theme. It was festively decorated for 4th of July. We had the signature burrito and the combo chile colorado and chile verde. Burrito was huge, loaded with shredded beef. Chile colorado and chile verde were generous portions. All dishes were hot, fresh, perfectly balanced, flavorful, and pleasant presentation. Good margarita. Service was excellent. Pricing is $20-$35 per plate and worth it. Passed by this place so many times and finally decided to try it... it looks so huge from the outside it's really hard to not see it and wanna try it after they basically built a palace for it. Inside, it looks like a restaurant that you would find deep in Mexico..: the food, however, is an entirely different story. I ordered a 3 item combo with an enchilada, a taco, and a Chile relleno and some taquitos on the side... the food was edible, but definitely nothing to write home about. The rice had a couple stale pieces which was disappointing, but the beans were decent... service for a Saturday afternoon was fair... there was a major event going on in their ballroom so not sure if that had anything to do with it, but I can't really say I could justify coming back here again unfortunately read more

Four stars seems to be right on the money. When I try a restaurant for the first time I try to get there on a busy day, but early before the rush. Food is most likely it's best and prepped for the packed Friday or Saturday. So it wasn't packed but there were people there. Oddly enough the parking lot looked kinda full. It's not like they would have anywhere else to go as this restaurant is all by itself. The greeters were polite and attentive, which we had a booth in no time. Our waiter and waitress was on top of things. I make a note to mention this early as there are a lot of complaints in the reviews about the service. It wasn't packed... but I couldn't ask anything more of the service. Top notch. Just note that service might change as it gets packed. But for this review at this time it was great. Ugh!!! I want to cry at this point, but I'm going to continue to with the good before I get to the bad. The chips were warm, the salsa had a slight kick but not spicy. Like you know there is spice in there but it is an afterthought as you go to take your next bite. Beans and rice, no complaints! I love fluffy rice so much and this pleased me greatly. Now for the sad part... I've had a-lot of lobster enchiladas. This is not the restaurants fault at all, it just didn't meet my expectations. It does mention that it has a spicy sauce in the menu however the plate did not go well together. I would have been pleased with any other filling but lobster. The enchiladas was drowned it it. This breaks my heart to complain about it but it was like being a boy at Christmas and opening that last gift expecting the dream present to get a sweater. The sauce overpowered the lobster so much. I couldn't enjoy the lobster at all. So sadly this dish will always be a pass for me in the future. It really does the lobster a disservice being in the enchiladas. I look forwards to trying many other things from here such as the fish tacos. I will be back as we had a good time and the overall experience was enjoyable. read more

Give me some of their freshly made tortillas with this soup and it's "tiempo para una siesta" ;) This Carnitas has plenty of flavor, it's served shredded and is very moist. I was here for lunch and was informed by our server, Armando - to come for dinner; all the tortillas are made on-site in a glass showcase near the hostess stand. I highly recommend this dish if you're a fan of Carnitas. The "light of my life" ordered (off the lunch menu) the spinach enchiladas w/rice and beans. Also, a crispy ground beef taco. Ok, two thumbs up from my wife as she usually just says, "Eh, it was ok" but, with every bite, she would say, "I can't believe how good this is." It's been a few months since we've been to Mexico Cafe, but with friends in town it seemed like a fun place to have lunch. First off, our waiter Jonny was spot on! He was professional while still being fun - our dining experience seemed important to him. Our busboy Bruce was attentive and went the extra mile to bring extra chips and a variety of salsas.
