We eat here at least once a week. Everything I've had has been excellent. We'll the fish taco was a little dry. Other than that everything is great. My go to is the cheese Enchiladas to die for the red sauce is so good. Chips and salsa are always fresh. The atmosphere cleanliness and the excellent staff are bar none the best I've experienced. It beats even san diego mexican restaurants. Flan and deep fried ice cream were fantastic too. We love the owners who work so hard so I'm glad they are always busy. A couple of times that we have been in they have had a long waits, but we always find seats in their bar area where you can order food from as well. I can see why I love this place food ,drinks service especially from server Beto was 5 star service even at the bar I asked a really nice polite bus boy if the chips are made fresh. Took a trip to San Diego on our way back home to Palm Springs me and the family stopped at this location. We are Mexican and this was a different spin on Mexican food. Mexican food differs by region or even if it's a take on Tex-Mex. We had stopped at a different "Mexican" restaurant and it was like a Taco Bell. So when we found this place we were happy. The food is delicious. I love Chile relleno and this was different but delicious. I also got taquitos with their yummy Guacamole. My oldest son enjoy his chorizo burrito and my younger boys got the carne asada tacos. Different seasoning on the carne but it was tasty. My 4 year old loved the rice and beans he ate the entire serving. Great customer service and ambiance. I will return again when I am in Temecula for wine events. read more

I ordered the Pork Carnitas that goes with side of soup or salad, beans, tortillas (upon request) and Spanish rice . I selected the Menudo for and it was pretty good. The Carnitas is so-so, kind of bland for me. The place was spacious and bright. Table are comfy and suit for conversation with friends. This review is solely for their Sunday Brunch Buffet. We accidentally stumbled on this place one weekend (location is a bit weird but we live nearby and happened upon it while heading towards the freeway) but it was a nice surprise. The buffet is around $25/person and offers quite a bit - your typical brunch items (eggs, sausage, potatoes) but also had various dishes such as enchiladas, menudo, pozole, a taco station, omelette station, waffles, crepes, fruit and much more. Totally worth the $25. The place is huge and is great for larger parties. We showed up with a party of 20 one time (last minute get together) and they were able to seat us right away and without a reservation even though the restaurant was pretty busy. I waited a while to write this review to see if my feelings changed. They didn't. I own a small local business and once a month I take my crew out for a nice dinner on me. We typically go to very nice places like 1909, goat and vine, etc, so I'm used to spending a good amount of money and I always leave a very generous tip, typically 50%. We typically eat and drink for average two and a half hours. We're always treated very well, which I guess is the difference between a $30 per person restaurant and a $75 per person restaurant. My particular reason for leaving this review is the way we were treated from start to finish. My employees are all early 20s family and their friends, I'm an old man. I think the waiter assumed we weren't going to spend any money. He was l not friendly, constantly rushing us, asking us if we wanted boxes when everybody was half finished with their meal, which was the only time he checked on us. Never came back to see if we were ready to order a drink. Just rush rush rush from the time we walked in. We ended up kind of feeling like he wanted us to leave so he could turn the table over and get rid of these bums. I ended up leaving a 100% tip to show him he was wrong to get rid of us. Now we leave and I go to the parking lot. I pull a trailer so I have to be careful where I park. I remember getting there and not having a lot of options so I parked next to a escalade and full size Ford truck. I remember thinking to myself I hope they're gone when I leave because it was going to be hard to maneuver around them. Both vehicles were still there. I looked at my phone and we had been there 55 minutes. Shortest company dinner in history. We left hoity toity old Town to give this place a chance to be part of our regular rotation and I'll never go back. A very large waiting room/lobby and lots of indoor seating! The food quality and taste is 1 star: Where to begin... As a local, I have eaten here a few times in the past 2 years mostly because the service is good and the holiday decor is always impressive from Halloween to Christmas and ever Easter. I have traveled to Mexico a lot. The food at Mexico Cafe must be New -Mexican style bc it's unlike any Mexican food I've ever had in my life (unfortunately). I ordered the flan and it did not taste like flan. I've had flan from 50 different places. It was more like a pudding from a box (the opposite of FLAN!!) . They use cheddar cheese too on top of their enchiladas and the refried beans. The food seems mass produce and on the plus side, does come out fast from the kitchen. I am being honest that there is nothing special about that food. The salsa they serve with chips is not spicy at all, so a very mild/plain pico de gallo (just one kind of salsa for chips). The drinks (margaritas) are large but again, don't have the right ingredients/ taste very artificial like fruit punch vs actual fruit juice. Service has 5 stars: The service is always great. The servers and waiters are very attentive and fast. The hosts are always great too! Clean restaurant too! The place is spotless and clean. You can tell they take pride in service and probably their strength. That is why I come back here- but the food and recipes are severely lacking in authentic Mexican flavor and need a total make-over! Their weakness is the food recipes! Also, the place is large (tall ceilings) and very modern and interior is painted white (hospital- sterile white). It definitely needs added warmth and a cozy design is missing because it is such a large building. If it was painted orange or a different color, I think it would give if the warmth it needs and more decor on the bare walls. It definitely had the modern architecture though! The service was just mediocre, nothing above and beyond there. I will say that the prices aren't bad. I just wish the food was worth buying. Mexico cafe ruined my birthday dinner :-( Vegetarians listen up!!! If you stray away from the IMMENSELY LIMITED vegetarian menu of three things you will get sick! Think cheese enchiladas are safe for vegetarians? HAHAHAHA NO! They have lard in the sauce. So much lard you can TASTE IT! They make no apologies for ruining perfectly good red sauce with lard. You can't have enchiladas! You must have a different gringo option( this isn't the Mexico cafe, I've been to Mexico this isn't how their food taste in any of the Mexican states I've frequented) I've never heard of something so ridiculous in my entire life. Anyway here's the 411: The front of the restaurant is BEAUTIFUL, the dining area is a joke, lacks luster and very loud. Menus were wet and smelled of dirty cleaning rag my chair had spilled salsa in it and when I switched chairs there were crumbs on that one. Hello Covid? Are you there? They aren't cleaning the tables obviously. No Decor in the very back section of the restaurant and a low ceiling with very bright lights. I asked to be moved to a booth and this helped but some sort of food spill was on the table and dripping on the side, I wiped it up with one of their paper napkins. The entry to the bar is AWESOME! (See attached picture) but our bartender ignored us once he saw we had a buzzer for a table and we were left looking around trying to flag down a bar waiter to order drinks. The Mexico cafe signature margarita taste like pure chemicals. I've never had such a gross drink, but taste vary so we paid and made our way to the dining room. The chips and salsa were tasty albeit a bit on the gringo side. Everything about this place screams gringo cafe! On a positive note our waitress Chloe was amazing and we tipped her despite the food catastrophe. Here is the food down low. Meat eaters you can ignore these warnings, these are for VEGETARIANS so they don't end up sad like we did. We ordered cheese enchiladas. I ordered VEGETARIAN beans to go with them. When they came out one bite told us the sauce wasn't vegetarian. The waitress said she thought they were vegetarian but form past experience I've learned to ask them to ask the chef. The chef said they have NO enchiladas without lard in them ( wtf? Why? ) LARD, as in animal Fat so she suggests enchiladas without sauce and they come out with beans( with lard) on the plate despite ordering veggie beans on one plate and NO beans on another plate. She takes them back ( not sure why they were brought out that way when they weren't what was ordered) and they come back again with no beans and no rice. I ask for the rice since it comes with the meal and ONE side of rice comes out. My beans are now cold and I still have no rice. BTW, the rice isn't vegetarian either so it's a good thing I didn't get it. Not sure why they are putting lard in everything but they are. We ask to speak to the manager because by now my birthday meal is ruined and I'm just done. The very nice manager takes our food items off the bill( but I can't help but think he's a little Smug about the fact that there is LARD in the red sauce. I've never in my life heard of this nor have I ever had another restaurant feel the need to add lard to sauce but as he stated " well we do". At this point I'm just done. Not exactly the proper way to handle things but whatever just get me out at this point. The chefs are to blame for this and it's also our fault for not sticking to the gross gross go vegetarian menu. Moral of the story, if you're a vegetarian ASK before you order why the enchiladas or whatever item isn't on the vegetarian menu. 99.9999 percent of the time they have ruined it with needless lard. Would I come back here? Probably not. While they tried hard to make fix the situation the limited veggie options ( no one comes to a Mexican food place for a salad or grilled vegetable burrito) and disgusting drinks make me want to steer far away from here. I wish I had more positive things to say but when you FIRST visit is this bad you can't help but wonder why the place is so popular. I should have paid attention to the fact that very few people of Mexican heritage were eating here. Thank you Chloe for being sweet and kind and amazing. None of this was your fault! The cooks should have informed her there was lard in the entree when she requested velvety beans for us. I hope you get to serve at a better resturuant in the future because the cooks completely ruined this and you aren't to blame. Anytime a patron specifies a vegetarian option is needed but orders something rhe cooks KNOW have lard in it the waitress should be informed so she can inform the patrons.
