Taco de lengua, Carnitas Verdes, y Michelada
    Shirley R.

I decided to visit this place because I was homesick and the description said "Michoacan style." OH. MY. GOD. I ordered extra food so I could have leftovers for lunch and let me tell you- even though there was a LOT of food there were barely any, I devoured it all. Everything was amazing! The taco was just to curb a craving and the lengua was tender. The salsa verde in the carnitas was so savory, not spicy at all, the rice fluffy and the beans perfectly refried, not dry or watery. I loved them so much I ended up getting more beans to go for my lunch tomorrow. The michelada was also perfectly rationed out, and the server was attentive and respectful. I've already made up my mind to come back!

Visiting for the first time with good friends, we ravenously looked at their menu to see what we could devour. A friend recommended this spot and suggested the carnitas big porky family combo. It was perfect for our table of five. Super juicy carnitas was unlike all the others I've tried before. So tender and not dried out with burnt ends. They were succulent chunks of carnitas. Salsa duo, pickled onions and limes. We ordered an extra set of salsas cuz we like to keep things spicy. Also Served with homemade corn or flour tortillas, beans and rice. If you have some beans and rice fans you may need to order extra. Their chips are the good ones nice, thin and crispy. Get a few bowls of their salsa I put it on everything. Also ordered a huarache which was very tasty. Topped with choice of meat, beans, lettuce, guacamole and radish. I'm used to a more sope kind of huarache base. This is more of a long tortilla but it tasted great not gonna complain. Great for sharing cuz it's huge. Service was attentive and helpful. Clean and organized with a spacious restroom. They have a great team at this establishment. Inside or patio seating with parking right in front. A hidden gem among the surrounding warehouses. Will definitely keep this one on the bookmarks for a visit when in the area.

Service 10/10, food 10/10 - Would love to gatekeep this hole in the wall but seriously the best tacos I've had in a long time. Salsa and chips were amazing and def our new go to in Temecula for Mexican food!

Finally! Good tacos AND rice and beans!

This place is hidden! So you know it's good! The mascot is a pig lol salsa is good! Perfect amount of spice and refreshing. They have lengua tacos!!!! Got the lengua taco plate! Two tacos with rice and beans. Chips and salsa are super good! My only complaint is that they don't have flan :(( but I know it takes a minute to make it. The chips and salsa made up for it. Out of the three sauces the green is good it's almost a good chipotle green. Beans are fantastic! Rice is good! Lengua tacos end up being four instead of two because there's so much meat on it! I had to put it in the second tortilla to eat all of it. This place is my new spot! My waitress Luisa was awesome service here is great and friendly and attentive! Did I mention the chips and salsa?! Rice and beans oh my gosh this was really good!

Growing up in the hood, this spot was pretty sketchy when pulling up, mostly because it's hidden wayyyy in the far back away from everything but there isn't really anything to worry about it.. This spot is pretty good and the staff took really care of us on service. We had ordered carne asada sopes, great season on the meat. Also ordered a taco de carnitas which the main highlight of this place. When you usually order carnitas, it can be a hit or miss but this place; legit. Will definitely come back for the tacos de carnitas.

Great food and service! Got carnitas with skin OMG! Got the patinas to taste as I've never had the before, very good. We also got brisket tacos which were good.

One Carne Asada and One Lengua Taco Rice and Beans

Great Hidden Gem.. Taste like your abuelas kitchen and the environment and service was exceptional. Daniel was not only kind, but was genuine and such an intentional server. Definitely will be recommending to my family and friends.

My friends and I were in the area and decided to try El Canario Carnitas. We also decided on this restaurant d/t its high ratings on Yelp -I do trust you Elite Yelpers (Thank you, my fellow Elites :) Despite the restaurant having empty tables, there was a few take-out orders for lunch, so my party of 4 was already warned about the 30-40 minute wait for food. We decided to stay, seated right away and sipped on a soda while we waited. BTW no alcohol served here. It was my first time having a Hurrache de Carnitas $12 and it was delicious. Carnitas was salted perfectly for me and what ever type of bread or tortilla it was on, it was homemade, soft and worth the wait. Service was somewhat attentive despite the wait, although my friends appreciate the young male waiter being bilingual. Free parking, located in a somewhat industrial looking area. Good casual place for lunch. I'd come back here again, if/when in the area.

    Chilaquiles

We were visiting and decided to stop in after seeing the recommendations. I was craving chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. The service and chips were good, except for the long wait to get our food. We waited an hour and the restaurant was not even busy. We ordered the huevos rancheros and we got huevos on a fried tortilla with pico underneath, no sauce, and cold reheated rice and beans. The chilaquiles-ordered green and got red sauce with a lot of onion and cilantro underneath the eggs. The birria taco was dry ...no birria sauce. (I don't mean the birria consume.) The meat was more like desebrada..shredded beef. If you're looking for more saucy meat. This is not the place for you. The staff were nice and perhaps there was only 1 cook or a very new cook.

Came here for a quick solo lunch stop and I was pleasantly surprised From the starter of free chips and salsa that were clearly in house fried and delicious to my actual taco plate the vibe is authentic but humble ambience with casual feels The tortillas were in house and perfectly pressed and the meat rice and beans very flavorful!! I was t expecting much because of its lowkey location but definitely a place I'd return to !! Not to mention the servers were friendly too!

Decided to give this place a try for lunch after someone shared a great review of them on a local group, so of course, the next day that I went they were so busy they even "ran out of carnitas" Still, service was decent and food was great! Ordered 2 chicken enchiladas and 2 carne asada sopes. Food was fresh and had great flavor. I'm sure at some point I'll want to come back again to actually try their carnitas

We got the little piggy meal for 4 adults. Also got the 3 potato tacos and a kid's bean and cheese burrito. The carnitas came with a side of beans, rice, cole slaw, pickled onions w/habanero, lime, tortillas, and two different salsas. The corn tortillas are handmade and taste so good. I tried my kid's burrito and the flour tortilla tasted homemade as well. Make sure to get the carnitas mixed (cueritos and all). The beans and rice were soooo good, and the carnitas were some of the best I've had. The potato tacos were very good as well and nicely sized. We found this spot on the way down from Julian. I would make the drive from Orange county to this place for the carnitas alone. You have to try this place.

    Chile verde carnitas plate
    Veronica R.

Authentic flavors straight from Michoacán! This cozy, family-owned gem serves up some of the best Mexican food I've had--parents cooking in the back, kids serving and hosting in the front, all with the warmest smiles. The carnitas were perfectly crispy and tender, the carnitas in green chile sauce was rich and full of flavor, and the sides stole the show--fresh pico de gallo, bold homemade salsa, homemade tortillas and hot chips straight from the fryer. Even the rice and beans were spot-on. Beautiful presentation, generous portions, and service that makes you feel like family--this place is the real deal. I'll be back soon for another plate (or two).

With that being said, parking can be difficult because Old Town tends to get very busy on a Saturday. We walked in and it was not busy. The host/server told us to pick any table we would like. We chose outside, but they had just cleaned up the area, so our chairs were stacked. The host/server quickly helped us get the chairs down and place them at our table. The server was attentive and kept checking in on us. Now the food. When we were sat down, we were given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were perfect and not overly salty or greasy. The salsa was very mild and had a great flavor. I ordered a 2 taco combo plate ($14.95) with carne asada and carnitas. The carne asada was just okay, it was cut into thicker piece, which is not my preference. It was also topped with guacamole, which was not the best I've had. The carnitas however were magnificent topped with pickled onions, cilantro, and salsa. The rice was not traditional Mexican rice and did have a bit of a crunch to it rather than a toast before cooking. The beans were just plain pinto beans, not refried beans, but they were good. While this place, is not extremely traditional, it is a great spot in Old Town Temecula with fairly good food. I'm looking forward to coming back again.

The dressing was amazing. The chilaquiles were also good. I was a little nervous at first since they weren't busy when we walked in compared to the other restaurants on the street, but it ended up being a great surprise how good everything was!

From the moment you walked in the place was totally decked out for the America 250 theme. They really went all out and it was awesome. This place is huge by the way. Many rooms with soooo much seating but wr sat in the bar to see the US take on Paraguay in the World Cup match. Lots of TV's to see from any seat. Our server was delightful, so attentive and just really good at her job. I wish I would have gotten her name. She was wearing a Mexico FIFA jersey though. The food was dynamite! Everything on my combo plate was fire. The taco, enchilada and the especially the chill rellenoes! The batter was so thick and moist it was awesome. My mango chili margarita was great too. Awesome place, go have some great food and service at the Mexico Cafe!

Hi Sandy - it was pretty good. I ordered the three item combo plus albondigas soup (only $3.50…read moreextra). The soup was good and hot - the way I like it. Service was super fast... almost too fast? For a graduation day I was surprised the place wasn't packed. I just get the soup it seems and the entree was already there! So the beans and rice got a little cold. The tacos were not that large but heck there was a lot of food after some nice chips and salsa. The chili relleno was the star. I took half of it home with the rice and beans (and salsa) and it made just the best left over burrito. The margaritas were super cheap and tasty - only $8.00 or so. My son lives just down the road near Pechanga so it's really close by. My question always is would I come back again? You bet. Great atmosphere, attentive service, good food and drink at a decent price.

But recently... things changed. They removed their Friday happy hour, and honestly, that was the main reason I'd choose this place over others. Without it, the value just isn't there anymore -- especially when their cocktails run about $16, which is noticeably higher than the $11-$14 range you'll find at most comparable restaurants in the area. When I go out, I'm usually spending $120-$140 per visit, and that used to feel worth it here. Now? Not so much. The drinks are okay, not amazing, and definitely not worth premium pricing without any kind of incentive or happy hour. I still think the food is great and the live music vibe is unmatched, but removing happy hour while keeping drink prices high makes it hard to justify coming back as often -- if at all. Great spot, but the value just isn't there anymore.

Copa Mundial Watch Party? Save Your Time and Go Somewhere Else!!…read more I made a reservation specifically for the football watch party and even noted in my reservation that we were coming for the game. We arrived 15 minutes early, only to be told by the manager that we weren't on the reservation list. After showing her my confirmation, she eventually "found" our reservation. We were then seated at what she said was the last available table, which wasn't near a TV at all. To make matters worse, the TVs throughout the restaurant were so small that I couldn't comfortably watch the game from where we were seated. I asked if we could be moved, and while I UNDERSTAND there were no other tables available, what really bothered me was the explanation that followed. The manager asked how I had made the reservation. When I told her through Yelp, she said she hadn't closed reservations in time and had been too busy the day before to check the Yelp reservations. Respectfully, that's not the customer's problem!!!! MY issue is the false advertising. This was promoted as a COPA MUNDIAL watch party, yet there was no reasonable way for us to actually watch the game from our table. Had I known that beforehand, I would have chosen one of the many other venues available. By the time we arrived and the game had already started, my options were extremely limited. PLEASE If you're planning to come here for a watch party, don't. this restaurant is not equipped for that. Save yourself the disappointment and watch the game somewhere else. HOPE THIS HELPS ANY FANS OUT THERE.
