My girl and I decided to stop by The Golden Bear for a quick happy hour, and it turned out to be a great choice. The place is on the smaller side, but it has a fun, laid-back atmosphere. There was a soccer game on, so there were people hanging out both inside and out, which gave the place a lively vibe without feeling overcrowded. We ordered the happy hour nachos along with a margarita, and I couldn't pass up the piña colada slushy. The nachos were the highlight of the meal. They didn't come with any meat, but honestly, they didn't need it. The combination of melted cheese and vegetables, and all the toppings made them delicious on their own. My piña colada slushy was exactly what I was hoping for since I'm a big piña colada fan, and my girl really enjoyed her margarita too. I was still a little hungry afterward, so I ordered a slice of pizza. Unfortunately, that was the only letdown of the visit. I'll either stick with the nachos or try something else on the menu. The bartender was friendly, and I also noticed they have a small stage that looks like it's used for live performances. Came here for a quick chill bite to eat with my man after a random day date. The service was top tier and the dive bar experience was checked off. This place is one of my go to spots to enjoy a good beer and something to soak up the liquor at an affordable price. The food for the price was great. We ordered pizza and a beer and nachos and a margarita at the happy hour price and we also added a happy hour Paloma and pina colada. Inside is small but they do have a patio to enjoy as well. I can see this place being a sardine can on a busy night tho. I did not eat here but have heard from multiple people the food is good. Why the 3 stars... we ordered 3 of their slushee pina coladas and we did add a float of dark rum but it was $70+ for 3 drinks. Maybe I'm just too old to go out drinking anymore. I miss the $10 drinks, $15 max. And as with anything in this area, parking can suck. read more

This was a great little pub I found in town looking for a beer and a little bite to eat my first night in Sacramento for a week. Seems to cater to the local crowd, it was early evening, so not really crowded but it's some locals at the bar and just putting out a menu. They have a shrimp and chicken bahn mi that I had to go with, and it was absolutely fantastic!!! Great flavors, rich, really did hit the spot. Finished off a couple of beers paid my bill and headed back to the hotel getting ready for work. Outdoor porch, on the street, great food. Highly recommend.!!! read more

Do not sleep on the brunch at Golden Bear! It is a divey watering hole and it might not be for everyone but they do a great brunch. Bottomless mimosas on Sunday too! We sat out on the patio. The seating is benches and wood, no frills. A solid menu, heavy on bacon as the protein. The waiters were friendly and quick even with several rather large groups. Not the most fancy or aesthetic place but good vibes and great food. Such a weird pet peeve but the triangle plates take up so much space on the table! Offerings: -Chilaquiles: Solid dish. Thick green salsa really allows the chips to keep their crispy shape and texture. Love all the toppings. Very reminiscent of nachos, just with egg! - Breakfast Crunchwrap: Wow. I've been to Golden Bear a handful of times and so for I haven't had disappointing or incredibly experience. I've come on late nights and the small interior gets packed along with their coveted outdoor seating. The patio outside is cozy and perfect for when the weather is nice outside. The inside is small and can be dark and loud, but depending on how many people are there it can be great for date night or a more intimate hang out. The music I've experienced here has been house/electronic/pop. During a recent visit the energy was definitely.. different both inside and out. Oddly quiet inside and very dark, and an interesting crowd outside. Came recently and had their olive pizza and fries. Both food options were delicious and I think the fries were some of my fav that I've had recently. Their cider and sour on tap are my go tos and they have a nice drink menu. The bartenders have been friendly too. Give this place a stop on your next bar crawl or if you've never been to see if it's your vibe! read more

wanted to share some constructive feedback because first impressions matter. We approached the entrance respectfully and simply asked if it would be possible for three women in our group to enter together. When we realized there may have been an issue, we even offered to pay. Instead of receiving a courteous explanation, we were met with a rude and dismissive attitude. From Julio which was so rude. From a business standpoint, this approach is costing your venue money. Every guest who walks up to your door is a potential customer--not only paying for admission, but also purchasing drinks, food, and bringing future business through word of mouth. When staff respond rudely instead of professionally, customers are more likely to leave, share negative experiences, and choose a competitor next time. We completely understand that policies exist and respect a venue's right to enforce them. The issue wasn't the policy--it was the way it was communicated. A simple, respectful explanation would have been enough. Hospitality begins at the front door, and the person greeting guests often determines whether they'll return or recommend the venue to others. There were multiple witnesses around who understood our standpoint I even tried to communicate and Julio's native language, which was Spanish. All we did was simply ask question and then we offered to pay and Julio said no thank you we don't want your business. I hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to improve the customer experience, because with a more welcoming approach, your business could retain more customers and build a stronger reputation. read more

Inside gets a bit crowded but wasn't too bad when I went with my friend. Music is great! Definitely a great place to vibe. Popped in here really quick to grab a drink while we were waiting for a table somewhere else, got served really quickly! Bar tender was super nice. The front room is small but they have an outdoor patio area in the front and then another room in the back. i went for new year's eve and it seemed like it was lowkey over capacity. there is another bar/dance floor towards the back, the music was much better in the main room but it was far to crowded to even dance. i really liked that they gave out a complimentary beer to cheers at midnight. there's always a line for any women's bathroom at any club/bar but there were a few girls in one stall not even using the bathroom but just talking in there. i'd likely go back on a slower night for a better experience. also they didn't check my bag at all. read more

Super confusing and unpleasant experience!! Two of my friends were let in by an individual and I asked for clarification if there were two bouncers working because I saw another man checking IDs. (The guy who let them in had a "staff" shirt on) He didn't answer my question and instead said "ladies y'all are good, for guys it's $5". He gestured for me to move forward towards the other guy to which I showed him my ID but then he said "$5". Imagine my confusion after all that. Now I believe there might've been a mix up because I THINK one of my girl friends paid for all of us ladies, I will clarify this later BUT, a random guy walked in before me with all my other girls in front. A gentleman in our party pointed out this potential error and told me to swap spots with said guy who was already inside. The guy was ignoring us and the bouncer, who must've not been listening to the situation, jabbed me several times very harshly on the shoulder and started getting aggressive with me to step back over the line when I was trying to clarify the situation with my friends. Totally uncalled for and strange behavior from the bouncer and it threw off our entire night, having a random guy interjecting our group when it all could've been prevented had the bouncer been paying attention. We stood behind people seated at the bar and two crowds of people came and stepped right in front of us, I could clearly tell they were drunk but still no manners. The interior is dark and I feel this contributed to the peoples bad etiquette because you don't have to see anyone's face. I don't know how I have lived in Sac for so long without visiting Golden Bear!? Sure I've walked past and giggled at their fun street signs, I've even taken photos of some of the particularly good ones, but somehow we never popped in! Finally, a group of friends decided to have a fun Saturday around Midtown taking photos at the different gorgeous murals (as one does) and we ended at Golden Bear for brunch. We sat outside since I had my dog with me and they came to check on us right away. Our server was so friendly and attentive and even humored me as I requested *extra magic* in my Bloody Mary. To be fair though, if you're going to list "magic" as an ingredient it's going to be a conversation starter and get some questions. The Bloody Mary was fantastic btw. Our group ordered drinks and food, including a breakfast sandwich that looked amazing, their special the Huevos Rancheros and a breakfast plate. Everything came out hot and had great flavor, my eggs were perfectly runny in my Huevos Rancheros and I wish I had ordered some of the potatoes because they looked so good! Our server even brought my pup some ham so he wouldn't feel left out and kept the water coming as he noticed I was splitting mine with my furry friend in his water dish under the table. Dropped by here for drinks and bites with some family. The menu sounds really good, but the food that came out was only so-so. Wish it lived up to the menu. We got a handful of different items: a couple of cheeseburgers, Adobo chicken wings, a black bean taco, a coconut shrimp taco, Umi fried chicken sandwich and a pizza to share. The different items we ordered was hit or miss. My black bean taco had good flavor, but a third of the beans were hard. Not very fun to eat. The Adobo chicken wings were supposed to be spicy, but the sauce they gave us had absolutely no flavor. It didn't taste bad, but it didn't taste like anything... Literally, it was just a brown sauce. I don't remember the exact pizza my family ordered, but they said it was pretty decent. The coconut shrimp taco was delicious - best thing I had there. My sister's fried chicken sandwich was pretty good too. So it seems the quality of fried food was pretty good. It's just the rest of what makes food good was lacking. Meaning flavor. Overall a good outing at the Golden Bear. The ambience was good - the fam could just hang out and chill with some beers and cocktails. Just wish the food was better.
