Do not sleep on the brunch at Golden Bear! It is a divey watering hole and it might not be for everyone but they do a great brunch. Bottomless mimosas on Sunday too! We sat out on the patio. The seating is benches and wood, no frills. A solid menu, heavy on bacon as the protein. The waiters were friendly and quick even with several rather large groups. Not the most fancy or aesthetic place but good vibes and great food. Such a weird pet peeve but the triangle plates take up so much space on the table! Offerings: -Chilaquiles: Solid dish. Thick green salsa really allows the chips to keep their crispy shape and texture. Love all the toppings. Very reminiscent of nachos, just with egg! - Breakfast Crunchwrap: Wow. Everything I would want in a breakfast Crunchwrap. It did have potatoes instead of hashbrowns but I still loved the flavor. The bacon addition was also fantastic and they do not skimp. It is real bacon and good quality.

I've been to Golden Bear a handful of times and so for I haven't had disappointing or incredibly experience. I've come on late nights and the small interior gets packed along with their coveted outdoor seating. The patio outside is cozy and perfect for when the weather is nice outside. The inside is small and can be dark and loud, but depending on how many people are there it can be great for date night or a more intimate hang out. The music I've experienced here has been house/electronic/pop. During a recent visit the energy was definitely.. different both inside and out. Oddly quiet inside and very dark, and an interesting crowd outside. Came recently and had their olive pizza and fries. Both food options were delicious and I think the fries were some of my fav that I've had recently. Their cider and sour on tap are my go tos and they have a nice drink menu. The bartenders have been friendly too. Give this place a stop on your next bar crawl or if you've never been to see if it's your vibe!

New favorite dive bar $10 beer and pizza or beer a tacos how can you not love love this place. Legit my my favorite dive bar with good food, cheap booze and a great vibe, the service was amazing especially for a dive bar, overall how can you not love this place. Came here with friends and coworkers and can't wait to return

The Golden Bear was an alright experience. The food is delicious. 10/10 on food alone. The fries were so salty and crispy. The pizza was hot and flavorful. The drinks were also good. I got the strawberry tajin margarita and my friend got a pina colada. The service was also good. Our bartender was quick and friendly. The food was out fast as well.

Walk by and see the hilarious / topical sign out front (changes daily, if not more often). Choose not to walk in. Your loss, loser! Jk. But seriously, if you think this is JUST another midtown dive bar, you're greatly mistaken. No matter what time of day, you'll be greeted by the very best. Whether that be Cliff or Matt (the most experienced bartenders) behind the bar for lunch / dinner, or Julio or BJ (god they're hot) at the door after 9pm to ensure no riff raff gets in. Is there something higher than a Michelin Star? If so, the menu will win it every year. The chef takes great pride in their work and all of the team puts out the very best quality food that will exceed your expectations. Amazing people, great atmosphere, delicious food. Shut up and take my money!!!

Came to the golden bear for drinks and tapas and it is now one of my go to places! Service is awesome, crowd is awesome, kind of small inside but there is outdoor seating! The drinks were not disappointing and overly sweet and the oyster shooters were the perfect amount of strong and savory. Yes and yes.

loved the chai berry blended cocktail, the service, and the awesome sound person who helped me as I was playing a show there with my music! its cozy inside, but you have more space with outdoor seating which is nice

Another great decision to stop in for a quick snack, and a cold beer. Tried something new that I can definitely recommend. The tacos are great here. Went with the chicken, and a cold IPA today.

Their ravioli is pretty famous and reminds me of an upgraded version of the nostalgic soft, square beef raviolis that I grew up eating. If you don't want to commit to the entire box of take-home ravioli, you can buy it by smaller tubs from the deli. After 20-30 mins, your sandwich should be ready for pickup. The workers there are so friendly and provide great service. They genuinely seem to like their jobs. We got one guy helping us out from one end of the deli to the other end and he was so patient and happy the entire time. There was a sweet lady handing out cheese samples as well. Everything I tried was so delicious. I especially loved how thin they slice the charcuterie meats where they are translucent when held up to the light. Can't wait to go back for their fresh pastas and homemade sauces.

They have a decent number of cash register stations taking orders. They have an extremely large menu. I counted 18 different Banh mi variations, and lots of other things For my starter, I wanted to try the. Pate chaud, which is pate in a puff pastry, but unfortunately, they were out. Instead, I got a mini steamed bao bun, with fried chicken in the middle. For my banh mi, I ordered the egg, sausage, and pork loaf, but instead, I got the grilled pork and egg. I'm not going to take off any stars or anything, because hey, misunderstandings happen, and it was still an amazing sandwich. They gave me a number, and it was a short wait for my sandwich. Between the registers and the people making the sandwiches in back, it's like an assembly line operation. They are quick, and the prices are extremely reasonable. The sandwich was very large, The bread was still warm. I took the sandwich home, but I ate the bao bun on the way home. It was very good. The bun had a good consistency, and the chicken was excellent. Seasoned well, just the right amount of breading, and tender on the inside. When I got the banh mi home, that's when I discovered the mixup. But I enjoyed it just as much. The egg was fluffy, and the pork was excellent. . It was a little bit sweet, like a Char siu. The pork was also very tender. The veggies were fresh. There was generous Portions. I was only going to eat half, but it was so good, I ended up eating the whole thing. I will definitely be back when I'm in South sac. Heck, that sandwich was so good, I would drive down from Rancho, just to get one. Thanks!

The bun, however, was enormous, so the overall experience was like eating a fluffy bread pillow with a whisper of sandwich somewhere in the middle. Honestly, the sandwich felt a bit like a mime, the idea of a sandwich was there, but the substance was invisible. I even wondered if maybe the fillings weren't hungry themselves. By the end I felt less like I had eaten lunch and more like I had participated in a sandwich-themed illusion. Sadly, it looks like I'm Togo's-bound from here on out. You're probably not pulling out your laptop to do any work or catch a vibe there unless listening to music and sending emails in a sandwich restaurant is your thing. My go-to order is the Amuna's Tuna on Dutch crunch with everything on it except jalapeños. If you're feeling a little lucky, you can get a combo meal with chips and a drink. I'm likely in the minority in my opinion, but bear with me. I'm torn between a 3 and a 4, and…read moresticking with a 3 because this shop just didn't measure up ... to me. For starters, Ike's has its own way of doing things: plain mayo is not their thing. Only way to get plain mayo on a sandwich is to get lucky that there's a smidgen still left in a jar in the fridge after they prepare their house spread. They mix GARLIC and gawd knows what else for spices to make their Ike's sauce, so allergies beware. They offer plain mustard, but not plain mayo? For seconds, the sandwich bread is not up to the challenge of holding together the mountain of fillings inside. Pics prove my point. I want to eat a sandwich with my hands, not a plastic fork (or a shovel). And I don't want to wear it, not in public. Proportions, people! One size does not fit all. Now, in fairness, the meat, cheese, lettuce and tomato were fresh, chilled, and flavorful. However, IMHO $2.00+ to add equivalent of half an avocado is robbery when a whole avocado is $1 in the market. Fortunately I arrived when there wasn't another person in the store so I was able order up a plain ham and cheese sub with L, T, and A. The counter person was patient as I attempted to navigate the menu board. I communicated my wish for a simple sandwich and it arrived, albeit ridiculously overstuffed and above my budget expectations. Props for kindness and understanding. My first visit to any shop is always testing how well they do basics. So far, I'm not an Ike's fan. I'm no newcomer to sub sandwiches. At 82, and being a Massachusetts native, I've been a sub girl for at least 75 years, ever since I could wrap my fingers around the perfect sub roll. Your food is brought to you. Water is self service as are utensils. Give it a whirl; parking may be a challenge but just be patient and you will be rewarded with your dining experience here. I look forward to my next culinary adventure here.
