Their fries are really great, we got Cajun but feel like they are good without anything on them and the Cajun isn't even necessary. The turkey sandwich was also really good - it's a huge portion size, I'd recommend splitting it with someone! Also subbed pepperjack for Swiss and it needed a little sauce so recommend mustard from the condiment bar. The burger apparently is a decent choice - pretty standard with no bells and whistles, and the pork nachos are a move if you're looking for some finger food! I just wanted to leave a comment about one of your employees. We ordered drinks at the outside bar as we were waiting for my 9-year old son who had a bad fall. I saw a blue jacket and asked the guy if I could ask him a question. Michael Bass was so helpful that he not only asked me about the fall but also gave me my options. When I told him more about the fall and how I was concerned it might be a concussion, he offered to call Ski Patrol and wait with us until Ski Patrol arrived. He then chatted with us while we waited. While you obtain the best variety and quality of food at Canyon Lodge, the Mill Café is by far the most cozy place to hang out when the legs get tired from nonstop running up and down the hill, for apres-skiing, or if there is a need to warm up (e.g. with a hot chocolate). Both inside and outside are great, space is however limited. Inside, in the center, there is a fireplace, and a number of fairly small tables that give the crowded place the feeling of a comfortable home. Small little cafe to stop at for some grub after shredding the gnar. Like all of mammoth though, we've wised up and never actually EAT food here. Way too expensive. Like the other cafe's here, they've gotten rid of the free hot water, so you can't bring cup-a-noodles. Well, that's not true, I think they charge you $1 to fill up your bowl of soup if you want that option. But we've opted to bring our own meal. Awesome sliced bread from schats, deli ham, some greens, and avocado. So, one can really save money since most of our dough goes into this dang expensive lift tickets, not to mention the hotel and gas to travel here. Sorry I digress. So my reason for giving this place 3 stars is the Garlic Fries for $9!! Lover bought this thinking it was the bestest garlickly fries ever, and the were! But seeing them now, them changed the recipe a bit. If you look at the previous garlic frie pictures, you'll see chucks of garlic sprinkled all over the fries, one picture was in 2009. Our fries seemed to only have garlic essence or garlic oil, but no real chunks of garlic. BOO! For $9, this was a POS! O well, now we'll know to never salivate thinking about this garlic fries. It's a good a mid point between Canyon and Main Lodges and I like its smaller chiller vibe. It has a small but decent cafe, bar, bathrooms, fire pits and other areas to take a break. I think we caught the bartender on a bad day, the day she simultaneously decided to pms and leave her manners at home, thereby making a public spectacle of what an ass she could be. Normally, this place is super crowded and I don't like to come here unless it's spring-time conditions and they have their outdoor seating set up with the fireplace going. I only came here for a quick rest and so that Fatty could grab a couple medicinal shots to quell the pains of the involuntarily cartwheeling he did down his last run. Fatty waited patiently & dizzily at the bar, flagged the bartender down once only to have her bullhorn that she saw him there and that he had to wait. Well, if you saw him there, sweet cheeks, why didn't you acknowledge him? A nice nod, a wink maybe. Needless to say, the entire service exchange was filled with attitude but even more so, the bartender proceeded to complain about serving him to the rest of the bar, while we were there. Now, I've had crappy drinks. I've had the eye-roll for asking for my change back because I didn't like how a bartender assumed that the change was their tip. I've had drinks spilled on my prized vintage leather jacket. And I'm not about lambasting bartenders when I know that a tiff may result in a peaceful toast between us, but never have I had a bartender treat me or someone I was with such blatant inconsideration. I remember bartending and cocktailing. I don't ever recall that treating guests horribly would earn me any tips. I left here both disgusted and disappointed. This was the worst experience I've ever had at Mammoth Mountain courtesy of this woman. This one star? Split amongst the fact that 1) it's Mammoth, 2) at this bar, you can keep a better eye on your board than at Main Lodge or Eagle Lodge, and 3) they have finally started playing music of this millennium. It's a good stop between runs if you need something to eat or drink, have to use the restroom or just want sit outside to give your legs a break. I prefer it in the mornings as a breakfast stop with a short stack of pancakes (4 stars) because there's a only a few people and feels cozy and quiet. During the lunch rush, it's busy and hard to find a seat inside since it's small compared to the lodges. So we had to keep an eye out for an open spot in order to enjoy our pulled pork nachos (3 stars). It was funny seeing how comfortable people got that I saw two people take off their ski boots. Best place to grab lunch on the mountain! I got tri-tip and two sides for just a few dollars more than what a plate of fried rice and a side of beef and broccoli cost me elsewhere on the slopes. The bbq sauce was just Kraft Bullseye but it tastes pretty good! If you ask nicely for a good cut they will oblige. =) The portion is generous and tender, delicious protein to keep you full and provide energy to burn the rest of the day. I was happy with my one meat and two sides... any more and I probably would have felt too lazy and full. The Mexican man that makes the omelets referring to today, Dec 30, around 10 am, is EXTREMELY HARDWORKING! He has that job dialed in to a T. I observed him while I was waiting for my veggie omelet. A large basket of fries, enough for two grown men or one of me (I don't share), with oil, garlic, and pepper soaking through the once potatoey goodness. Health no more. Awesome place. Every time I come to ride, the first thing I do is go to breakfast here. Very friendly staff. The most delicious breakfasts I've tried, here. I advise everyone. My friend and I stumbled upon this goldmine of a food joint when we were exploring the other side of the mountain to hit some new slopes. Someone walked past me with an amazing pile of nacho goodness on a plate and I became fixated on ordering that, even more so when I found that it's PULLED PORK nachos. I'm used to just having nachos with chili or carne asada. My buddy opted for a Pulled Pork Sandwich and a side order of potato salad and another side of coleslaw, not realizing the massive feast that was to be presented to him a couple minutes later. The price was a little on the high side: my nachos with a Starbucks coffee ran me just over $18. My friend's meal with a coffee as well was a little steeper @ $26. Ultimately, we agreed that the price was justified by the quality of the meal. We were both thoroughly satisfied with our meals. My nachos were hands down the best I've ever had. I have to admit the guac they topped it with wasn't too great. The pulled pork with melted cheese over it was heaven in my mouth so one can only guess that my buddy's Pulled Pork sandwich was amazing as well. The potato salad was pretty ordinary but the coleslaw was superb. If you roll up to Mammoth, have your lunch here...or maybe end your snowboarding/skiing session at this place because you'll definitely feel a little bloated and gluttonous when you're walking away. Saturday, January 14 (Saturday) Let me begin by saying I haven't been to Mammoth in over 3 years. We happened to come during MLK weekend and after the storm of the decade so I expected it to be crowded. No problem - just as long as I'm with my friends and having a great time right? Our journey began at Eagle Lodge. 8:30 am and the lines are just insane. Our group managed to squeeze in somewhere along the mess. After all the lines alternating, everyone was just clueless on how to get a group of 6 together. There definitely needed to be a staff member directing the lines but there wasn't. When it was our turn, our group of 4 went and then the lift operator started talking down to us. "Don't you know how to count to 6? People are getting pissed off because you can't count." Yes. That is what the staff member said to us. Hey- not our fault the group behind didn't want to join us. So, after that mess, we went up another lift and took a break at The Mill. I've never had a bartendar be so rude to me. In fact I usually never ever state names in reviews but I had to mention something about this "Miss Cathy." I ordered a shot of Jack Honey. She poured it into a shot glass and I noticed a booger on the rim of the glass. I kindly told her and she took it back and just poured it into a fresh glass. First off, that's disgusting and I'm pretty sure not up to health code standards. Would you drink that shot after it touched a booger? Probably not. So, again, I kindly asked her for a NEW pour and she just gave me the nastiest look. She poured me a new shot and shoved it into the bar and didn't even acknowledge that I was apologizing for the inconvenience even though it was not my fault. After the shot, I came back and ordered another Jack Honey from a different bartendar and guess what? She gave me that same nasty shot that touched the booger and she said it was an "overpour." First off, I'm not going to drink a drink that wasn't poured in front of me. 2nd - it was sitting on the bar so someone could've put something in it. Shocked, I just took the bill and didn't even drink the shot. I'm so appalled by these actions and I hope that the Mammoth management trains their staff to be a little more polite. I mean there's lots of newbies that come here and sometimes they don't understand the grouping in lift lines. And I hope that the bartenders are re-trained with the knowledge of health code. read more
