    It's for meat lovers

Gave this Smokey Tri-tip sandwich stand a go after a rainy windy day fishing at Convict Lake. This Tri-Tip sandwich was perfection; warm tender, slight pink, tasty with a great BBQ sauce. The bun, hoggie style, was fresh with a toasty exterior. The sides were fine, but The Star was the Tri-Tip Sandwich

Perfect meal after a day of snowboarding. Tri tip sandwich meat was soft and chewy, but the BBQ sauce was tasty. The baked beans and mac and cheese sides were hot and fresh. We got a cookie monster shake that reeeally hit the spot. "Incredible shake" as my fiance says. Staff was super nice, friendly and helpful. We took it togo and ate in our car facing the mountains at sunset so truly the perfect post-snowboarding.

Hubs and I were cruising through the Mammoth area on a little scenic drive when hunger hit us. I looked up locations close by, but in our driving saw that nearly every one of them was packed with people spilling outside to secure an eating spot. We decided to drive by this spot based on the high number of good reviews and see how busy it was. I don't know if we got lucky or if the minimal seating available keeps the area less crowded but we were able to walk right up and order. Originally I wanted the sandwich but knowing we would only be driving several more hours we both decided on the pulled pork mac and cheese cup. Don't let its size fool you - I ate just over half and was full. It was great and hubs cleared his cup out in no time. Overall, I'd definitely love to stop back by here and maybe get a sandwich next time.

Came by here today for lunch. We shared the tri tip sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad, along with the pulled pork mac and cheese. Both were great! The employee who helped us was super friendly, and when he realized we were sharing even offered to split our mac and cheese into separate cups for us, and cut our sandwich in half and put spicy bbq on one and regular on the other so we could both have it with the sauce we wanted! So kind of him to go above and beyond and offer that. Order was up quick. I only wish they had more seating, as all of us customers wound up squeezing in on the one table available.

My go to spot after snowboarding. Thick portions of meat and bbq sauce on sandwich. The same person serves me every time i go and it's consistent quality. The service is great and the wait time for the sandwich is below 10 minutes. Everything is perfectly seasoned. All meals are made to go. There is only one bench outside to sit on so be prepared to eat to go.

Also known as Mammoth Smoke Shack Been here before when the snow packed the roof & surrounding area and also been here before on a nice sunny day w/ outside seating. BBQ is fresh & flavorful and solid quantity & quality Great corner shack to grab hearty food after a day of excursions!

Tri tip sandwich and Cookie Monster shake

Absolutely amazing spot! We came here after snowboarding and the tri tip sandwich was wonderful! It was tender and packed with flavor. The Cookie Monster shake was a good sweet treat after a day of boarding. On top of that, the worker was very friendly and prepared our food quickly. We will definitely hit this place up every time we visit mammoth!

This place was amazing! The tri-tip and pulled pork we off the charts good. Then we went for the salted caramel shake to top it all off...boom!! A must place to eat if you really want to fill yourself up and have the best smoked meat!!

After waiting over 30 minutes, I eventually had to find another staff member myself. The food was decent but overpriced. I ordered the rock shrimp, which was good, and the wagyu burger, which was mediocre. The atmosphere was also extremely loud and rowdy, feeling more like a bar than a restaurant. Overall, the poor service was by far the biggest issue. Regardless of our age, being ignored for that long left a very disappointing impression of the staff and the restaurant as a whole. It reflects their character.

Appetizers came out as the same time as the entrees (ncluding an app we didn't order). We had to request silverware from the busser after all the plates were left and continually got up to refill our own water. The server's attitude disengaged and clueless. We had to flag him down to order another round of drinks because he never checked on us. No boxes were offered to take food home, which was a shame, it was all pretty good. It took so long to get the check, again, another person had to be asked while our server was just hanging out in the kitchen He had no idea how to operate the handheld POS device. When it was pointed out he didn't remove items we didn't order, he did but then left us with a blank screen. Finally, one of us walked to the bar to ask to pay and told the bartender the server didn't know what he was doing. Her response was "it's only his second shift." I mean, ok, if he'd let us know that and apologized for lapses we would have been understanding- or if he'd had an experienced server training him he wouldn't have been the weeds - but even calling it the weeds is generous because it wasnt busy. We said, "ok, it's his second shift but you should know he's doing a terrible job" - as was evidenced by the tables around us who were similarly struggling to order and get their bills. The bartender's response was to shrug, roll her eyes and say "he's trying" while she walked away. If you're charging $30+ for entrees, and people are paying $15+ per drink, we expect more than trying. Oof, if you're treating locals like this, it's gonna be a long shoulder season.

The vibe is casual and inside is a pretty nice collection of Kansas City Royals baseball memorabilia. You don't have to love KC to enjoy this - if baseball is your thing, you will appreciate this. Dan even gave us the back ground on the owners history with KC. I highly recommend the baked brie as an appetizer - it was crazy amazing! I ordered the meatloaf and trust me, this isn't your ordinary meatloaf. It was recommended by a friend and you cannot go wrong with this choice. 5 stars! My husband had the salmon, and although it was very good, he wished he had gotten the meatloaf, so I graciously gave him half as the portion is huge! The only reason I didn't give it five stars is the dessert. Dan had recommended the carrot cake and said the portion was larger than other selections so, when we got home, we were disappointed in both the size and the taste. Although good, both my husband and I were expecting an amazing carrot cake and it tasted just normal. Admittedly, both my husband and I are carrot cake snobs so maybe our standards were a bit too high. But I would try another dessert. Plus, the cake was in a large container so by the time we got home, the frosting was all over the side of the container instead of the cake. If you get dessert to go, ask for a smaller container. Although this must sound picky, after such a delightful dining experience, it just felt like a little let down when we got home. Other than that, the experience was top-notch and I will definitely visit again the next time we are in Mammoth. Thanks for a great experience, Dan! By the way, a local highly recommended both the fish tacos and the lobster taquitos. I trust his recommendation completely! Just something else to consider on this amazing menu.
