STEPH JUDGEMENT: Maybe my favorite vegan meatball sub so far. I happened to be walking by this place around lunch time and decided to look at the menu on a lark, even though I no longer eat meat, and was pleasantly surprised to find a vegan meatball sub on the menu! I saw on the Yelp reviews that they had high marks so I decided to give them a try. Well, I was impressed. The "meat" balls were delightfully dense and herby, encased in a zesty sauce, but the wonderfully toasted bread was the real star. They did ask if I wanted regular cheese or vegan cheese and I went with the regular (since I'm not vegan). It was a cheddar blend and not a mozzarella, as one would expect on a meatball sub, but it was still delicious! The Mac and cheese was ok--presumably not vegan. I didn't ask if they had a vegan version of that. I'll definitely be back for that sub, though! read more

Hubs and I were cruising through the Mammoth area on a little scenic drive when hunger hit us. I looked up locations close by, but in our driving saw that nearly every one of them was packed with people spilling outside to secure an eating spot. We decided to drive by this spot based on the high number of good reviews and see how busy it was. I don't know if we got lucky or if the minimal seating available keeps the area less crowded but we were able to walk right up and order. Originally I wanted the sandwich but knowing we would only be driving several more hours we both decided on the pulled pork mac and cheese cup. Don't let its size fool you - I ate just over half and was full. It was great and hubs cleared his cup out in no time. Overall, I'd definitely love to stop back by here and maybe get a sandwich next time. read more

Came by here today for lunch. We shared the tri tip sandwich with coleslaw and potato salad, along with the pulled pork mac and cheese. Both were great! The employee who helped us was super friendly, and when he realized we were sharing even offered to split our mac and cheese into separate cups for us, and cut our sandwich in half and put spicy bbq on one and regular on the other so we could both have it with the sauce we wanted! So kind of him to go above and beyond and offer that. Order was up quick. I only wish they had more seating, as all of us customers wound up squeezing in on the one table available. read more

Let me start out with the good: the tri tip sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich were the best we've had. Both were so good, tender, flavorful. The bread they come on is amazing. We will def come back. The not as great: the sides were ok. I think a little tweaking and the potato salad and coleslaw could be improved. The biggest downside was waiting half an hour for our food. There were two people ahead of us who had just ordered shakes and no food. No one came after us and it's the shoulder season now, so no crowds. The mammoth smoke shack (eastern sierra fruit company) is a hidden gem in mammoth! My brother and I walked up from our condo one night to find that they were cleaning up after almost selling out of everything they had. But they had some pulled pork left and we wanted to try it. The my kindly opened back up and made a couple dishes for us. The portions were very generous, not sure if that was an end of the night thing or every time but it was a good amount. I enjoyed learning about his experiences working in Yosemite before retiring to mammoth. More fun? This guy is one of California's athletic legends!! First time here and won't be my last. I've had many trip-tip sandwiches and usually it's not my favorite. Usually its a hit or miss cause some are dry or over cooked. This one stood out. Why? It was tender and soft. Once you bite into it. It's like eating a fatty brisket. The combination of the bread the sauce and meat. Just wow! The sauce goes with the tri-tip. Neat, yummy and super friendly eatery in Mammoth :) Whenever I am in town, I will always stop by this spot! The menu is vast, and even sweeter is that they have options for vegan/vegetarian diets too. If you are in the area and looking for a place to start your day before hitting the slopes, definitely check it out. My recommendation? Try the breakfast burritos! (I had veggie, and my partner had bacon.) The tortilla wrap was soft AND crispy on the outside in all the good ways, and the medley of the filling hit the spot. Delightful. A treat to the senses! I was full, fueled and ready to shred. Ngl, I think I had one of my best days snowboarding thanks to the awesome breakfast I had here! Also, huge fan of their coffee - they serve Black Sheep Coffee. The meat was extremely chewy, BBQ Tri-tip is not supposed to be chewy.... The pulled pork had zero taste as well and was not smoked. And for the baked beans....they were canned Busch beans. It took 20 minutes to get my food. How does it take that long when everything is already cooked? This is not a BBQ joint whatsoever. This place is a complete rip off. This place is amazing! This is our first time eating here and nothing but great things to say! My husband had the sausage breakfast burrito and said it was one of the best he has ever had. He also had the espresso shake which did not disappoint. I had the smoked Mac and cheese bowl with Tri-tip and pulled pork. It was also delicious! To wrap it all up we had a piece of the smoked apple pie for our anniversary and we ended up getting two more pieces to take home! *IMHO* I am disappointed with this new place in town :(. Was excited to try it. Turned out I just overpaid for a hot dog. I would go back for a shake, if it didn't cost minimum wage. Tri tip sandwich was ruined with tons of bbq sauce. Sides were small (and didn't have to be in a styrofoam container) and sounded great but underwhelmed by the taste. Wanted this place to be good.
