Came here after reading all of the great reviews. Love an old school steakhouse vibe with lots of locals...so it seemed like a great place. We were seated pretty fast and the hostesses were very nice and on it. After being sat...it took a while for our server to show up. Once he arrived..he was really nice. The food was less than exciting. The filet was cold and lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes were just meh... I originally ordered trout but by the time my order was put in..they had run out...soo I got the chicken. Big mistake. It's soo bland and boring. It says it's marinated ...but it didn't taste like anything...It had a dipping juice which was meh... The asparagus was actually cooked nicely..but also lacked any flavor..it was literally dry. While my wife searches out ambiance with a view, I kinda like the clubby, folksy kinda places with good masculine food. This is the later, and in Mammoth, it is a star. Not to say it would be in the Bay Area, but at the mountain, the bar is lower. We had booze and meat. Elk and Prime Rib, and a wedge salad for garnish. It all was very good. Coulda skipped the chocolate cake though, never warm cake in a microwave. The service was great. Warm and personable. They gave our service dog the stink eye at first, which set off the boss in a cranky mood, but martini solved that. read more

Another great dining experience at The Mogul Restaurant. We had a party of 8 adults. Our reservation was for 5:30pm and we were sat right away. Our server Miguel was fantastic. Very friendly, smiled, super attentive. We were never left waiting for service throughout the evening. We all ordered drinks. My dirty martini was made properly and served ice cold. My husband And I both ordered the filets. My filet was cooked perfectly medium and my husband's was served perfect medium rare. The baked potatoes were baked nicely as well. It came with a vegetable side of asparagus and carrots. They were steamed and okay. They were not seasoned that we could tell. Unfortunately our friend's New York steak was tough and they didn't finish it. Everyone else seamed to like their meal. The mogul was decent! Not as fine dining as I think we were originally lookin for, but the food was great and the experience was just as good. I had the prime rib which was delicious as well as some scallops and other steaks served at the table. Our waiter was very good and attentive, even if he spilled a bit of our $300 champagne. No harm no foul. If you're lookin for upscale, this isn't necessarily the place. Mogul has more of a "under the radar steakhouse" feel to it, with Americana vibes. read more

Karen is the best! She made our dinner such a wonderful experience. Everyone who works there is incredibly kind, and you can tell they truly value great customer service. The wine selection is excellent, and they start you off with warm bread that's absolutely delicious. I ordered the wedge salad, which was fresh, crisp, and really hit the spot. For my entrée, I had the filet and shrimp with Gorgonzola sauce--everything was cooked perfectly, and the portions were very generous. My buddy and I had The Mogul on our first night skiing in Mammoth this past season. I would never denigrate this excellent restaurant by comparing it to wannabe joints like Tahoe Joe's but only to say that The Mogul is what TJ's tries to emulate. But this place is the real deal and authentic Sierra dining. The staff are incredibly kind and friendly. Their menu is straight-forward and simple to navigate without too many options: These are the best kinds of restaurants. I went with their famous prime rib and even scored the last end-cut of the night. It was nicely seasoned and expertly cooked. My friend got the elk - one of the specials that evening. It was equally tasty. The blackberry pie for dessert rounded off an excellent meal. Looking forward to my next Mammoth ski trip and dining here after a long day on the slopes. read more

Love the food! Love the vibe! The scallops were right on the spot. The lemon dill butter sauce further elevates the flavor. I enjoyed dipping the veggies in that sauce too. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked to our liking. It's our first time trying this cut. Has a strong beefy flavor. Quite nice. The bread was soooo good too! We went here 4 years ago when I proposed to my wife and now we're back for my birthday. Negatives: -price; the prices are a little higher, but the portions are good and the food is amazing. Positives: -taste; we got the elk chop special and the pork chop. The elk chops were amazingly tender and barely gamey. The only time I had elk was elk jerky, so this was definitely a first for me. I'm glad I gave it a try because it was one of the best cuts of meat that I've ever had. My wife's pork chop was really good too, it was very tasty and moist. -service; our server David was very friendly, responsive, and he made sure we were completely satisfied. -ambiance; it was like a cabin homey and a place you'll want to be to hide from the cold. Made a reservation when it opened for dinner. We were greeted with warm smile. Felt right at home. We were seated promptly. We chose to come here for dinner purely due to the location. This was literally across the street from where we were staying. The place was packed, fortunately we did not have to wait long for a table either since there was only the 2 of us. We got seated within 10 minutes. Waitress immediately came by to take our order (again not a long wait). I ordered the pork chop and rice pilaf and my fiancé had the prime rib and mashed potatoes. My husband and I have never been here before. We come to Mammoth all the time, but Mogul is always packed and never have availability when we come up. Finally this time we made a reservation. I'm so happy that we did! We sat at the bar a half an hour before the restaurant opened and Natalie the bartender was super sweet and had great recommendations. Served up a mean dirty martini! . Been here a couple times now, and overall the restaurant is decent but not special. The prime rib is always a lock. The ribeye is also solid with nice char lines. Cocktails are decent. Had to wait 10+ min for our table despite reservations though. They don't really rotate their menu much - their specials are exactly the same as one year ago. Bottom line: if you're feeling a solid steak or prime rib, Mogul is nice and is above avg for what you'll find in Mammoth. read more

MY KIDS ATE GOOD HERE! This is an OG Mammoth family owned restaurant and my in-laws loved it and so we brought our kids to try it and also got our stamp of approval. PROS: - prime rib medium rare was cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes were rich and broccoli side flavorful - lobster tail dinner (1 for $50 and $2 for $89) was succulent and delicious w/ the melted butter. Baked potato w/ butter sour cream was basic. - free bread basket came hot and fresh and my kids ate it up (even with the herbs baked in it) - kids meal pasta (red sauce) was a big portion and my kiddos devoured it (picture is proof lol) - special appetizer was whole steamed artichoke and it was yum - bottle of wine was priced great not too hiked up like other spots - service was A++ our guy was very attentive and friendly. The bussers always came by to clear the table - restroom was clean and they had a baby changing table FTW! CONS: - nada nothing! We'll definitely be regulars here on our family vacations. I had a great experience here. Me and my cousins do a trip to Mammoth every year. We usually cook at home, but this time we decided to go out the first night. I found this place on yelp and made reservations. They did not disappoint! The service and food were absolutely perfect, I got a steak and added a lobster tail, the owner even came up and checked in on us. It was a wonderful experience. Finding an INSECT in my food was beyond disgusting. Once that happened, the entire table lost their appetite. The dish was taken away, but the manager kept asking if I wanted something else -- as if I would still be comfortable eating from the same kitchen after that. When I explained why I wasn't comfortable, the manager became defensive and mostly just stared at me instead of offering a solution. We were then told there was "nothing that could be done because it's in the vegetables," which is not reassuring at all. Vegetables still need to be properly washed and inspected. To make matters worse, my friends were still expected to pay for food they could barely touch. No apology, no accountability, and no effort to make things right. The entire interaction felt uncomfortable and dismissive. The outdated carpet throughout the restaurant didn't help--especially after finding a bug in my food. Carpet in a dining area feels like a red flag when it comes to cleanliness. read more

The outside of the restaurant looks like a log cabin, and it looks like this on the inside too. The space is very cozy and inviting. We had a very friendly and upbeat server who was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed when needed. We had the scallops and the artichoke dip for our appetizers. My husband ordered the artichoke dip on a whim and none of us felt particularly good after eating it because of how heavy it was. For my main, I had the elk chops with a cherry sauce. We go here once a year it seems like. One of our favorite restaurants in mammoth because we are always pleased with the service and food. Our server David (if I remember correct) was so professional and friendly. Some of the best service from a restaurant I've ever had. I got the elk chops this time. 2 chops per plate which was a BIG serving. I couldn't eat it all. It had a cherry glaze which was really tasty. I don't normally like cherry but I trusted the chef and I'm glad I did. I had my dinner with a glass of Syrah- it paired wonderfully.
