This review applies to any of the lodges at Mammoth mountain because I just have to say that the bloody Marys (or I get bloody Marias) at mammoth are my absolute favorite on the planet. I have been looking and looking to find one near home that compares and nothing does. I really honestly have ordered so many bloody Marys and done so many bloody Mary make your own type brunches and I still can't find one close to the ones at mammoth. I've asked and it's their own special mix that they make on the mountain, so I am way out of luck and can only partake when I am there. I love all the bars here when I'm here to ski and I have at least one bloody Maria a day! Love the feel of all the lodges - the Mill is super chill and has a little bit of a "younger" vibe I'd say. Love it here and wish I could spend all winter up here sitting at the Mill - or any lodge - sippin on these life changing bloody Marias! read more

My favorite things about Mill Cafe are the comfy lounge chairs and Adarondak chairs out front. Perfect for a water or other beverage break, and ideal for people watching. I think I just saw George Clooney there today, or someone who looked an awful lot like him. The bathrooms are also very accessible - no stairs; but lines can be long. read more

I consider myself to be a somewhat regular at Mammoth, and this is one of my favorite spots for lunch. Food: OMG. this place has the best entrees by far. BBQ meat plates are the standard fare here, but they have all sorts of other goodies. Often have specials (Taco Tuesday, Cinco de mayo , etc etc). 2 Bars for easy access to your beverages. Layout: Not much space indoors; gets super packed, especially on cold days. There is an outside fireplace and outside bar, which limits the nee to go inside except for food. Restroom is easy outdoors access. In general, Mammoth food isn't too expensive. Yes it's a resort, but I've seen much worse. McCoy is our usual #1 spot just for convenience, but I'd put this food as #1 anyday! read more

First time I've been on this side of the mountain and in my opinion this is my fav spot for food/drink. It's a bit quieter (just a bit), then McCoy and Main Lodge which was perfect because I spent most of the weekend by myself and this area was a perfect spot to enjoy a beer during my breaks. The Mill is most definitely one of my favorite places to eat. It is located smack dab in the middle of Gold Rush Express and Stump Alley express. While the Mill isn't huge, they are really successful in creating a fun place to eat. The food/dining area inside is actually quite small... The inside dining area fits no more than 25 people and is really hard to sit at... The good thing about eating inside is that is complete with bar, fireplace & hooks to hang all of your stuff. If you can't get inside, outside is nice too. There's a fire pit, tables and chairs splayed throughout the patio, an outdoor bar & beach lounge chairs for those looking to sit for a second and get a quick drink. Getting food at the Mill is just like every other cafe on the mountain. It is cafeteria style ordering with payment at the cashier station. The mill is a little cramped in space though, so be prepared to wait in line and bump into people at every turn. The food here is my favorite of all the mountain cafes because they have BBQ! On this particular trip, I had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich, my hubby had a burger & we shared a small fry basket. If you're into BBQ that's not too sweet, you will love the pulled pork sandwich! The pork is tender, melty with just the right amount of smoke. The coleslaw on top is just the right flavor also... A little creamy and not too sweet. My hubby's burger was delicious also.. It was grilled on a flat top griddle and the patty was HUGE... Like 3 in-n-out patties combined!!!! The fries were also pretty good... The small is definitely enough for two to share! I wasn't expecting to get a nice, tender meaty sandwich when I walked into this place. The tri-tip sandwich did not disappoint. Meat was perfect and I was really surprised. Got it with grilled onions then topped it off with BBQ sauce. It was really good. My vegetarian husband got the veggie wrap. They put a ton of jalapeños in his sandwich and his mouth was on fire, but he said it was flavorful. They had a couple options for him on the menu, but nothing crazy. Place is a tad bit chaotic and we ended out eating at a table that was dirty from someone else sitting there before. We had no other options. My favorite place to go at Mammoth, because it is near my favorite run (Stump/St Anton). They have a great fireplace to keep warm (if you can get a spot near it), a great bar, where they have a variety of iterations of hot chocolate/various spirit, combinations. The bloody mary is the best!! A great choice to sit outside, watching the other boarder/skiers and chill! The favorite thing to eat at Mill is the Pulled Pork Sandwich, which for a person who is not a fan of pork is a big thing. Beer on the slopes?! I'm there! As soon as I heard about this place, we all took the lift and boarded down to the Mill Cafe. I'd heard really good things about their Mammoth Hef that they have on tap, so I was stoked to try some. Unfortunately, the tap either broke or they ran out. The reason I'm not sure is because the staff was rude and could only muster a halfway decent response to my question. So after making sure that I could only get a bottled beer, I no longer bothered with the staff. I actually regret leaving my bartender a tip, now that I think about it. Anyway, I also had a chicken sandwich, which was a monstrous sandwich with a grilled chicken breast and a mountain of grilled peppers and onions. The sandwich was expensive, but that's to be expected with places like these. And I didn't complain, since I actually enjoyed it. My friend ordered the garlic fries, which were pretty bomb. Definitely try the garlic fries! All in all, the food was good. The service was terrible, and the price was high. Meh. read more

If you were to read the other reviews, you'd get the impression that The Mill is pricey. That would be the wrong impression. I'm giving The Mill 5 stars because it is literally as good as it gets for on-mountain breakfast, including places down in town. I'm really surprised that someone would give a one star review because of a bad bartender or because they're pissed the old crew is gone. That is phoenix a.'s and j H.s prerogative of course, but The Mill REALLY deserves a far higher rating. The menu may have changed, but that doesn't take away from the high quality of the food. Why, you ask? Try the breakfast when Jose's manning the grill, and then honestly ask yourself - is there anyplace in Mammoth that makes a better breakfast burrito or huevos rancheros? I think not. Plus, the price is $9.75 - tame by Mammoth standards. Oatmeal, pancakes, French toast are all less, not pricey. Sure, you don't have the variety of items you have at some other spots, but The Mill does the 10 or so breakfast items it does better than anyplace else in town. Seriously, I have eaten at every breakfast joint in Mammoth Lakes, and The Mill is the best. Others are good - don't get me wrong, but I was blown away by the last two breakfasts I had. The breakfast burrito is a huge tortilla stuffed to capacity with a LOT of chorizo (or sausage, by why screw around with some Jimmy Dean type sausage - it is a BURRITO), eggs, cheese, salsa, with sour cream and more salsa on the side. It is HUGE. The huevos rancheros consists of a quickly fried tortilla, covered with eggs over easy, beans (not refried, but a super tasty mix of pintos and black), cheese, tomatoes, sour cream and guac. Another huge portion that dwarfs anything in town and tastes great. Perfect ski fuel. They have two hot sauces and Tabasco on the tables - always a good sign. We stopped by for drinks after skiing, and everyone was really cool - especially Sara, the bartender. She whipped up a couple of good drinks (try the B-52) and was very friendly. Here's the low down on the Mill. It's definitely the easiest place to park on the mountain. This is an awesome spot to gather with friends on the patio in the sun on warm spring days. However, it's always super packed on the weekends. It takes 10 minutes to get a drink. And when you finally get someone's attention behind the counter it's nothing but attitude. Uh, did I order a spicy bloody with a side of sassy?!?!? NO! HINT: Bring a cooler with your own drinks and kick it on the deck. Better yet tailgate in the parking lot which is close by and less expensive than $11 bloody marys. A much better bet than standing room only bar area with lots of pushy tourists and over priced drinks. read more

I forgot the name of the cafe, but I believe this is IT. The only place that has Garlic and Herb fries...yum!!! I had told myself over and over again, NEVER EAT LUNCH while snowboarding, COZ I'll be too full and no more strength for going down the mountain. And BAM! I smelt someone was eating it, my feet just kept walking towards the counter, darn it! There I went, ordering a basket of the garlic fries and chunking them myself. After that, it's too late when the reality set back in and seeing where I was, I had to still snowboard down...ouch! There goes my food on the way down... Oh fries, although you only lasted for about an hour, it felt like heaven eating you all out! read more

The staff is friendly and super fast and efficent. They really move people through fast.
