She was great to advise choices and provided helpful suggestions. We waited for an hour in the freezing cold waiting for a text we never got. Staff gave us attitude saying they called, which they didn't. Then when we were seated the server acted like she didn't want to do her job. Never checked on us, would walk away before we are done ordering, and had to be reminded to go to the bar and pick up our very late drinks. She said the bar was slammed but I literally saw our icy martinis melting on the bar counter for 15 mine. Food was okay but Staff is obviously very unhappy there and it shows. Absolutely awful experience at Smokeyard Mammoth Lakes. First night in Mammoth with a large group and we decided to do pickup instead of going out. We placed a $500+ order. When we arrived, the order wasn't ready. Totally fine -- it was busy and we were patient. While waiting, I politely asked the young guy at the front to please make sure ketchup was included and that the ranch we paid for was packed correctly. He said "okay." When he finally said the order was ready, I calmly asked if we could quickly go over the order together to make sure everything was there since it was a huge order, freezing outside, and a long walk back. His response was to dump all the bags on the counter and walk away, saying: "I'm gonna leave it here and you guys can check it if you want." Unbelievably rude for a $500 order. We checked outside and -- surprise -- no ketchup at all. When my friend went back in, the same front host handed him ONE single ketchup packet, which honestly felt intentional. Only after being called out did he hand over more. When we got back to our Airbnb, it was clear the problems didn't stop there. We ordered three orders of chicken fingers, which clearly state three fingers per order. Every order had only two. That's not a small mistake -- that's charging for food you don't receive. On top of that, the cheese sticks were cold and rock hard, completely inedible. In fact, the only thing that was warm were the ribs. It honestly felt like they made all the fried food first, let it sit forever, and then finished the ribs last -- which makes zero sense for a pickup order. So not only was the service terrible, but the food itself was mediocre at best -- especially for the insane prices they charge. This place managed to ruin our first night in Mammoth. We had a really great waitress but our food came out slow and one by one. My chili was already cold by the time my husband got his food. I didn't want to eat without him or be rude. Our waitress was apologetic and we appreciated her but I would hope a place like this would be used to the rush and a little more prepared. Every item of food we had was amazing. The butternut squash soup, the Brussels sprouts, the rock shrimp and the salmon were perfectly cooked and tasty. The Mac and cheese side was the best we've ever had - and we and Mac and cheese connoisseurs! Unfortunately the service was terrible. Asked for salt and pepper for the apps but she never brought it. My husband and I went here last night. The service was friendly and regularly checked in with us. For drinks, I got the hot chocolate but with peppermint schnapps instead of the spicy flavoring. The chocolate was rich, and the drink was delicious, but it definitely served kid temperature, which meant it was cold after a few minutes. My husband got the Hot Toddy, which I ended up getting one of later as well. It wasn't overly sweet and was perfect for a cold night. The Mac and Cheese was amazing. It comes in a much larger portion than it appears. Side wise, I highly recommend it. My husband loved his pork chops and mashed potatoes. He said the apples on the pork chop made the dish for him. The Brussel sprouts and my chicken soup cane out with a "Hot plate" warning but wasn't very hot. The soup was kid temperature, and the Brussel sprouts were just room temperature out onto a hot plate. The Brussel sprouts were crispy, but we're pretty bland. My soup had lots of shredded chicken and large veggies, which were delicious, but the broth tasted like it came straight out of the carton. Definitely needed some fresh cracked pepper or herbs. I wouldn't pay $20 for this again. The table next to it had wings and wouldn't stop moaning about how good they were. Granted, they were pretty drunk, but I thought I would throw that in there as a recommendation. The waitress definitely should have cut them off when they started having trouble speaking. You would expect a restaurant in the middle of the village in Mammoth during Christmas would be prepared for large crowds of people. Several menu items were out (steak, porkchop, salmon) and the food took over 45 minutes. We didn't receive our food as a table therefore several of us were waiting to eat while we waited for others to get their food (we were a table of 5). The only reason I'm giving three stars is that our waitress was great and she did her best to accommodate the situation. I would pick a different spot to eat and spend your money. read more

Wow, a non holiday monday night and mammoth restaurants are packed. Two big tour busses from out of state according to our driver. Our plan was the distillery but totally packed. We ended up eating at smokeyard and were pleasantly surprised. We haven't been there for a decade due to a horrible NY eve experience. Not crowded so seated immediately even w/out reso. Service was friendly and without problem. My old fashion was not very good. Other drinks were ok. Food: a mixed bag ranging from bad to excellent, overpriced (but on par for mammoth village), serving size was ample and enough to share. The two highlights were the st Louis Spare ribs w/ regular sauce and the salmon (with a chili glaze-not overly spicy)--both of which were excellent! We eat a lot of ribs and these were meaty, fall off the bone and delicious. I fish often in Alaska and am very spoiled as I usually only eat King Salmon. However, this was probably the best salmon I've had in the lower 48. A thick filet so not overcooked and an excellent topping sauce. The sticky rib app was also excellent and although expensive, it was large enough for 4 to share. Brussel sprouts were good but overcooked and not crispy the way I like them--my adult son loved them. Peanut slaw was also good. Slice of tri-tip ordered with the ribs (for $12) was horrible--rubber-not edible-I should have sent it back. Jalapeno mac and cheese was sub-par in my opinion. 4* because the service, spare ribs, sticky ribs and salmon were that good. Great food & excellent service! We had a party of five, the place was packed on this Monday night, got some drinks at the bar, then were seated soon after. We all ordered different things, I'm vegan and got the Brussels and coleslaw, both which were terrific, everyone loved their food, ribs, chicken, soup..... All the food came out roughly at the same time too. Friendly waitresses at the bar and tables, and hostess when walked in was very friendly and accommodating. Not cheap but where is now a days, reasonable considering. Had a great time & will come back again. So much better than most other places to eat in Mammoth. I didn't want to take this to Yelp, but I reached out to the restaurant several times and never received a response. A group of 4 of us came in for the New Year's Eve four course dinner - priced at $155 per person - and were incredibly disappointed. To start things off, we ordered a bottle of bubbly. It wasn't opened at the table for us which is fine, though surprising considering the price of the dinner. I opened it, and it had been shaken so it sprayed all over us. No one really noticed but we got napkins and cleaned the table ourselves. The whole experience was super rushed - the first and second courses came out together yet we were told to order our main courses ASAP because the kitchen was behind. The soups came out with no flavor and no spoons, and my salad came with no dressing. I asked three different people for dressing, then the main courses came out before we were finished and before I even got dressing for my salad. My friend went to the kitchen to get some himself. For my husband's tri-tip, I'm not sure if he was supposed to be asked how he'd liked it cooked, but he wasn't and it was super overcooked. We also ordered two hot teas, never received them, yet were charged for 4 (which we didn't realize until we had left). The service was bad, but they also seemed to be running around, struggling to keep up. Probably understaffed with it being NYE. Overall, I'm just shocked that one of the worst meals we've all had cost us $700. If it was $75 or even $100 per person, I'd think 'wow that's overpriced, but it's NYE so whatever'. $155 for what we experienced was egregious. Mozzarella sticks - hard coating of some kind of seasoned breading and rectangular sticks of cheese 2. Rock shrimp - the only decent tasting item 3. Tri tip skewers (not shown in pictures) - cubes of rubber beef 4. Sweet chili wings - worst tasting sauce ever and chicken had a funky taste in general Regular menu: 1. Shaved tri tip sandwich with fries - slightly better than the skewers, but still poorly made for a $20-something sandwich Never thrown out so much food in my life, but this was just some horrible tasting items that you can barely call food. Thank goodness most of them were under happy hour pricing, but that still left us with a $70+ bill. Ordering and getting the food was all done pretty quickly. Getting the check was a whole different story...our server was stuck attending to the bar and no other server was around - we ended up having to request the check from the hostess. I've dined at the Smokeyard many times over the past 5-6 years. I can't say the food is great, but after a long day skiing, it hits the spot (kinda). I was there on Fri. 2/20/26, had the half chicken with a side of fries. First mistake was to ask for bbq sauce on the side, they only give you the tiniest little cup of sauce. The fries, very forgettable. But again, I was starving, so no real complaints. Fast forward to my next visit on Thu. 3/12/26, I sit at the bar. The waitress barely acknowledges me and goes back talking to her friend on the other side of the bar. Empty glasses and plates are across the bar, not being picked up. Half the bar is taken up by dirty dishes. The waitress is obviously intoxicated (it's 6:10pm), ignoring patrons, pacing back and forth behind the bar and after 10 minutes, still didn't attempt to help anyone. I picked up my jacket and left. I've dealt with shitty customer service before and I can tolerate some of it, but a bar employee completely ignoring incoming customers because of (allegedly) substance abuse is inexcusable. read more

This has always been our go to spot when visiting but this past week we went with our kids and I forgot to bring coloring books while waiting for the food. (Have a 2 and 4 year old). I suggested to color on the to-go boxes as we always have food to take home with kids. A member from the kitchen staff sent our waitress to tell us we aren't allowed to color on the boxes we're taking home, with zero reasoning and to why. And the kitchen staff member watched our family over the counter the entire time to make sure we weren't coloring on them. It was weird and uncomfortable.
