We stopped here in the winter after visiting the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Holiday Light event. It had recently changed hands and were in the process of introducing a new menu. It was packed. The wait was almost an hour but we were able to get a bar seat a bit earlier and enjoyed a cocktail as well as dinner at the bar. We both got the steak special. Calamari with Petits Poivrons and crispy banana peppers with a fabulous aioli, fresh chopped garden salad with goat cheese, kalamata olives and wild blueberries, four cheese shallot and cream "Mac and cheese" and seared scallops and fresh lobster fra Diavolo over linguine. All just perfect. I'm embarrassed I didn't catch the wonderful hostesses name but from taking my reservation over the phone to greeting us to checking on us, she was BRILLIANT! Our server, Jade, was special. Knowledgeable and a real pro. Not to mention an absolute sweetheart!! We brought a great cake from a local bakery and they served it for us with the staff singing happy Birthday to my wife. I 100% recommend this restaurant. Awesome food and awesome service. This is my family's favorite restaurant for quality food, great service and overall value. They do it right and have indoor and outdoor seating. We have gone a few times during COVID virus and they were very careful and well setup to limit exposure. I cannot say enough good things. Montsweag has been around forever in Wiscasset. The current staff surpass the restaurant's reputation from years past. My wife and I ate there early on a Sunday evening. We had entrees and dessert, the haddock was perfect with asparagus (rivaling German asparagus), and my steak tips paired with mashed potatoes and green beans was ideal. The blueberry crumble pie was very good. We eat here 4-5 times a year and this was the best meal ever. The dining room was open and inviting with views of the outside patio seating. The renovations that have been evolving over the last year have finally come together as a cohesive whole. Well worth the stop. read more

Just had the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. Light crispy batter, tender haddock cooked just right, wonderful fries (I dip them in tartar sauce) and good coleslaw (I added a little salt, but I really like salt.) Our server was as nice and kind and efficient as we could ask for and the Bloody Mary was very good. My husband had fish and chips as well and he loved it equally. Our party of seven ate here this past Sunday night, and it was FANTASTIC. Three of us had the fish and chips -- a giant platter of fresh, lightly fried haddock, over delicious little curled fried potatoes -- and everyone raved about it. One of us indulged in the three-ground-meat burger topped with carmelized onions. One had the seared fish tacos, and the other two had soup and salad. Thumbs-up all around! Our waitress was prompt, friendly and attentive, and gave accurate recommendations on the various entree and drink options. The local microbrews, mixed drinks, and mocktails were all excellent. I've driven past Montsweag for YEARS, and thankfully made the decision to reserve a table for our group and stop in this past Sunday night for dinner. Highly recommended! Sometimes you shouldn't go back. A favorite spot of ours years ago, it has to evolve. Went on a non-weekend night & early enough to avoid the crush. Did calamari appetizer. Small portion with a coating that fell off before you can get it dipped or into your mouth. Tried the baked haddock covered with lobster bisque. Heavy use of lemon juice dominated this small portioned serving. The bisque sauce- meh. Other entree was the steak daily special. Started out tender, wound up with grisly fat. Service was spot on. Seems to be a favorite watering hole where quality may not be such a big deal. Better places around for seafood. read more

I had visited here once several years ago and was not very impressed then. Last night I decided to give it another shot withmy boyfriend since it had been so long and boy am I glad we did! Definitely one of my top restaurant experiences. The atmosphere was very inviting and classy, and I had one of the best meals I've had in a LONG time! I got the fried chicken over mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables, with gravy and cranberry sauce. This was the tastiest most satisfying breading I've had on a fried chicken. I would have licked my plate clean if I could have finished my plate, but the portions were plenty. Definitely will be back again soon! read more

We stopped in at Montsweag Farm Restaurant on our way back from Boothbay Harbor. It's a great casual bar and restaurant with a varied menu that will satisfy the whole family. The overall vibe is comfortable and easy-going, but a tad upscale, like you might want to wear your "good" t-shirt. Since we were celebrating a special anniversary but had consumed a late lobster lunch, we ordered a smattering of dishes to nosh on: nachos, Cæsar saalad, chowder, drinks, and dessert. Their clam chowder was definitely a gustatory delight. Thick and full of clams--don't miss it! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! The hostess was very friendly and our waitress, Patty Pie, was a hoot! She transformed our meal into an Event, with a capital E!! So glad to see they take Covid-19 precautions seriously: the staff wore masks, they sat us 6' away from other patrons, they took our names and phone #s for contact tracing,, the hostess wiped down our table and chairs before seating us. read more

We wanted a nice meal to celebrate our Anniversary. Called for a reservation in advance but it was packed and noisy (live music) when we arrived for our 6:30 reservation. We could have waited for a table but were shown upstairs to a quieter and more distanced events room. That was fine, although that space became noisy too. Our waitress, Lindsey, was fantastic; friendly, attentive and chatty in a good way. She remembered all of our special requests. We each ordered the salmon, which was delicious. I subbed mashed potatoes for the quinoa. They were also excellent. Sadly, the crème brûlée, was very so so. On the whole our dinner out was a success; good food, excellent service. This place is very popular. We'd return for a quieter midweek meal. read more

I am giving the restaurant a three star rating not because of service (it was exceptional), or the quality of the food (also exceptional). This rating is do to the fact it has been a year since I ate there last and they still have not addressed the ambient noise issue on their dining room. They have created a place with all hard surfaces so trying to have a basic conversation in this place is close to impossible. This is such an easy fix yet is overlooked by their management. You come away with a headache it is so noisy... and I thought it was the extra glass of wine from an exceptional wine list... I might just consider staying away for another year until they figure this out. Last thing, very simple thing really; do not serve the chocolate peanut butter pie/cake without ice cream or whipped cream, way to dry to serve by itself. Hopefully the management of the Montsweag will seek to understand this message and make the necessary changes, I live here year round and consider this a jewel of a restaurant except for the noise issue, it is a major flaw. read more

We stopped a second time on our way to the coastal gardens. We were all starving. The waitress was amazingly witty and helpful. We sat outside which was lovely until I got stung by a wasp while drinking my wine. She promptly brought over another glass. My son had the chicken tenders and they were amazing. I have a few things to say. I am from out of town and as much as the view was beautiful here, this place was not. A few things, there was NO good options for gluten free or vegan. Do better for those who have food allergies. Highly disappointed. I could barely eat anything here. Another thing I noticed the way management and the owner speaks to their staff is soo ridiculously disrespectful. For someone who has owned a restaurant why would you make your staff wear aprons for a long period of time? I felt so bad for the staff! I will never go back!! read more
