I found it enchanting and spacious, with an unusual barn door...the top half opened right up to a small grassy knoll and ancient tree, extending a mighty bough, worthy of a Cheshire cat. There is a sense of timelessness here, a respect for time, for animals, and the land itself---many of the vines are mature, even 30-years old if I remember my private wine tasting correctly. Yes, that is the other element here: aromatic hand-crafted wines made in small batches by Susan and Jim. To sip fine vintages in their tasting room, with its windows overlooking sweeping vineyards, the grapes ripening before one's eyes, is an unparalleled experience. Our wine tasting was just us and our host, but it made for a great intimate experience where we could ask a lot of questions. She explained all about the region and what kind of grapes work in the area and why. Compared to many of the other wineries, the tasting was very reasonably priced and even waived the cost of tasting with the purchase of a bottle. It was honestly hard to pick a favorite because everything was so delicious, but if I had to choose, the Jägerschnitzel absolutely stole the show! For dessert, we had the freshly baked apple strudel, and it was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. You could taste how fresh everything was--from the flaky, buttery pastry to the warm apples and even the homemade whipped cream. It was absolutely delicious. The owner's daughter Sarah runs the kitchen. My husband had a pork tenderloin schnitzel "Vienna style" ($20) and I had a jaegerschnizel with mushroom gravy ($20) and both were excellent. We split the potato pancakes (two with sour cream and apple sauce, $12) which were served crispy but tasty. They had a nice German beer and wine list.
